Lol is funny that you already level'ed up Classes such as Gladiator and is the base of a Paladin Job, having to relevel paladin is like telling me releveling Gladiator again.

No to this.
OP: Apply to SE as a developer and see if you can fix the injustices that are cropping up from the inside.
Well since you use alot of the same abilities to level classes anybody could argue that leveling MRD is leveling PUG but with a different weapon.
Just because it'll have a sword and a shield and be based off GLA does not mean it'll be identical, and besides even if you're a pro GLA, if someone smacked you with holiness and new magic and now you're a PLD you'll be a beginner and won't hold a candle to a veteran PLD.
If I recall correctly you don't need to be lv50 to upgrade your class to a job, so if I upgraded my PUG30 to MNK I'll be stuck as MNK30 until I get PUG up? or can I level up my MNK instead to 50? what will happen to my PUG? will it auto-level with my MNK or will it be stuck @30?
I'm hoping that Jobs will be a whole different animal from classes and follow a different independent system to "level up" probably be based off quests, that teach you new abilities and advance your Job level/rank/status.
I think Jobs should have there own exp bar UNLESS the quests to get skills are HARD and meant for GROUPS to do them since there for GROUP play. end of story.
Ok ok ok...
Listen to this one.
What if we made the grind... No wait, don't go away just yet! Listen...
What if we made the grind... EVEN MORE OF A GRIND!
How about that? Huh? Genius right?
No?
they should make the xp to lvl to lvl 2 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. yea that sounds about right, what does everyone think
So if I gain XP as a paladin, that xp goes towards my gladiator?
What about if/when in the future there is more than one job per class? Like let's say gladiator unlocks paladin AND samurai? Gaining xp as a samurai means I get xp on my gladiator which in turn levels up my paladin too?
Prolly mentioned but to OP:
Job starts at the current level of the class that unlocks it IF that class is equal to OR above the required level to unlock said Job
Thus,
Quest: 30
Gladiator: 35
Unlocked Paladin = 35
You level Gladiator to 36
Paladin now = 36
if you want to level it from 30, stop levelling at 30, then when they are released, go unlock them, and then level as per norm, and it will be as if you are levelling paladin (ooooOoooOOOooo spoooOooookey!)
Why.. again as i know this has been said before GLA IS PLD... why do we need to lvl up GLA 2 times? they are the same job.... same for the others.
well, imagine it as a hardcore gladiator
you know, the guy who has no skills from any other class
but has the benefit of a few new abilities that gladiator cant use(only paladin can use)
this is where alot of people arent understanding the system i think, they think of them as new classes coming
something along the lines of everything but the original 6 jobs from 11(thats right people, there were only 6 jobs at launch in 11!)
the petition is in the bin, no1 will sign it
I think the major problem with the OP is that they are thinking of jobs as new content for people who hit 50, they are not, they are a basic change to the core mechanics of the game.
Think of it from a new players perspective, you hit 10 you start getting guild marks from leves, you hit 20 you unlock the next teir of class guild skills, you hit 30, you now have access to a special stone that gives you access to some a specific role and new title.
Its not meant to be what you think it is.
what you want is new classes/job combos. this is not meant to be a different class, this is meant to be the new way the game is played. Ie you can choose your chosen class, eventually your class can learn to specialize its abilities for specfic roles, or stay open to new roles, its not you level one class to unlock another class.
so essentially op, what you really really want, is a cap raise, or some new class/jobs. Im sure those will come with time, but the developers wanted to change the basic class/job/proffesion system before they added new classes
there were 11 jobs, the second 5 were advanced jobs, you didnt have access till you reached 30, but if you hit 30 in the first day you could get all of them. they were pld drk rng bst and brd. all in game from day one.
the op wants advanced jobs like that, but they arent that at all.
what the op is asking for is the equivalent of if they locked war to a mnk sub, and then asked you to re level it so you could access 1 new weapon skill and 2 new abilities.
thats what i was trying to get across
but when you loaded the game, you had a choice of 6 jobs, period
alot of people are thinking of the job system here as those advanced jobs, which it totaly isnt
think of them more as a respec of your class(we dont have specs, but you can get the point) when you use jobs
Is this just another case of "Attacking a system that isn't even in game yet"
And this one isn't even clearly defined in patch notes... You are going off random dev posts scattered throughout the forum
this is why SE has never been one to give info in advance... until now
As easy as it is to level now.... I think HUGE EPIC quests might be preferable to leveling Jobs separately . Quests that are tough... involved... delve into the lore of the job... require time.. a party and skillful play... I look forward to that
But I can admit that is just speculation on my part... truth is.. none of us know what the quests will be like... so
calm down....
Eh..
2001/2002's FFXI only had RDM, WAR, THF, MNK, BLM and WHM accessible, then they patched in a bit later PLD, BRD, BST, DRK, RNG and SMN whom only had Carbuncle, so while not at launch there was indeed 11 (12) jobs in FFXI at the start.
I'm for the way XI did it because it does show that they are indeed jobs to be leveled and used in a different area (they're more party/raid based), but the exampled Paladin in I believe 4 gamer interview said if you unlocked it at 30 Gladiator and 15 MRD it would be 'at 30', but you can still exp it and level it up which will also count toward Gladiator, so while it won't be level 1, you will still be leveling it and having to quest to gain more skills and gear etc.
The Best way to think of it is the following, No mater what identifier the game puts on you, Pug or Mnk you are gaining experience with hand to hand weapons.
Think of progression in the terms of skill/ability acquisition. You passively gain skills from the weapon every two levels(weapon class). the weapons attached "Job" on the other hand progress via completing quests every 5 levels after the unlock point.
No thanks, I rather grind musketeer or some other new class when they're out. I don't think monk for example would play much differently than PUG so it would be stupid to start from lvl1.
Oh yay another pointless thread for something SE has already decided on.
brb making a petition to not add the materia system
I prefer the quest idea.. Helpfully long, interesting, detailed and challenging quests that are fun some group some with npc companions and some solo.
Not just more grind mob for X hours, move to next camp.
So hopefully the petition is in the bin. :D
This a thousand times over.
Paladin isn't a different class, it's a tanking extension of the Gladiator class. The same applies for every other job. You have a versatile base for light parties and grinds, and then you have specializations for full parties and harder content.
once again, even on jp release these classes existed, they may not have existed in beta, but they had these advanced jobs in the game on release.
notice that on this patch date, 6/11/ 2002 by na calendar order, they had adjusted paladin.Quote:

- Bind was a godly spell that only wore off when the spell actually wared off. So even if you attack they never broke. This has been nerfed.
- Auction house became live, the system seemed different. It states that it was a full auction based system (I have no clue what this means).
- DEX bonus were added to the sneak attack and Hand to hand ability were added to the thief.
- When ever you received the gil steal traight, the mob stopped dropping gil (HAHAHA) this has been stealth fixed.
- PLD's hp has been putted lower than warriors. Their MP were pretty high.
the game was released on 5/16.
in order for paladin to be adjusted in a patch, they had to already exist.
The probably werent in beta, but they were in the game from the time of release.
You are correct in that those jobs were in the game since launch. But, let's not get off subject. This thread is about trying to convince of a really bad idea where we have to re-level the class specializations because they share the same name of the base classes in FFXI.
Jobs are essentially Class Paths. Many games allow you at some point in time to specialize more going down 1 of several Paths for that class. For instance in some games if you were an Enchanter you could either choose a charm path, which made your summoned pets and charm effects stronger or you could choose a buff path which made your party buffs stronger. This is similar to that, with the only different being you can have all of these 'paths' unlocked if you take the time to do the quest. As such it does not need a leveling system.
Now as far as new classes, they are confirmed by dev posts already. They will be implemented as time goes on. Almost guarantee that when PS3 version launches Arcanist and Musketeer will be added into the game and perhaps even that Sheperd DoL that was found hidden in the data minded files.
Waiting till PS3 launch for new classes that you level up makes sense, it sends tons of players back to rank 1 and gets veterans playing with the new players on day 1.
