and since the new game is the same old game with a better server and better maps it looks like they DID give it their all.

This is the price we pay for Tanaka releasing the game waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay early with an incomplete game. Actually, this is the price YOU guys are paying for his decision since I'm not playing at all right now. (i just check the forums often) I probably will not play either till i see it's actually worth playing again but by then if 2013 is where the game will be fully complete, it might be too late for me. I was so excited for this game when it was announced at E3 a few yrs ago, did not expect it to turn out this way.......
*Please note that all I'm about to say is my opinion on how I'm reading the timeline.
All of what you said is Correct:
-Yes were Most likely Beta Testing in like September ( around that time frame I suppose)
-Yes They Distribute the Client in October
-Yes Game goes live somewhere for PC at that point of time in October
All of that I know of and read the time line Correctly of. However, we ARE getting things before the release date of the new FFXIV and they are as Followed in the order:
- Between now and the Release date of FFXIV Version 2.0 We are getting the basic systems and structures before the Version 2.0 Release date. Yoshi-p stated that they are implemented some ( maybe half?) of those systems into Version 1.0, then When Version 2.0 Comes on by, they will take All the Systems they been implementing into Version 1.0, and put them into Version 2.0. So in Essence were seeing a lot of that go into Fruition before 2.0 Lands.
-At this point in time They have Finished the Test Servers (Since they are making brand new servers, This basically means to me they are 75-80% complete on getting us ported on the new servers)Quote:
・February 2012 – Development test server reconstruction complete
Quote:
The new server system is already up and running on internal development equipment, and we are in the process of finalizing general
search features, the party system, the friend system, and more. At the current pace, we hope to have all basic system features
completed by February 2012
Quote:
・April 2012 – Version 2.0 client system complete
-At this point in time They have Finished the Version 2.0 Client and they are now ready, and will Commence Ports us over to the 2.0 Client. (Not software there's is a MAJOR difference in that, in other words and how I interpret this is we will be in the new Servers then.) Also, to note the the Graphics Engine of the Timeline Will be done This December of 2011, so I'm assuming the 2.0 Client will have those Graphics as well.Quote:
- Commence porting of current game content to version 2.0 client
-At this point, the Game is Fully ready and sometime within Sept-Oct the PC version of 2.0, which the beta for the PC version will probably start at this point in time ( This doesn't seem to be the Launch Month considering all were seeing is Radical Changes and how the Cataclysm is happening. Which leads me to believe that Cataclysm of the Old Eorzea will Commence at this point of time ( During the in-game Radical Changes, which is why were getting the Software then or else how else would we see the radical Changes? :P)Quote:
・September to October 2012 – Begin distribution of version 2.0 software for PC
- In November~January ( November probably meaning just the PC, the Client of 2.0 and the current game itself will Merge together, thus the Cataclysm Now Officially complete and welcome to Version 2.0 Beta test for the PS3, and the Limited Free Trial starts for PC)
This is how I interpret the Timeline, Of course I probably made little errors here and there but this is how I see the timeline. I hope you all enjoy your time in Old Eorzea as this is a once in a lifetime experience, Please enjoy it while it lasts.. :o.
They're designing the game from scratch, not just making some updates such as AH, mog house, etc. That takes time, and I'm amazed that they're doing it in a year. That's one huge team working litterally around the clock on this.
I wasn't trollin', but I said 2 years. That was my way of not letting myself down. I was right! Keep your expectations low and it's hard to be disappointed. Even before FFXIV came out, I was sure it would blow due to Tanaka and I found myself pleasantly enough surprised.
"Total redesign of maps, graphics engine, UI.... pshhh... why don't they have this done in a month! It's really simple!" - typic forum QQ'er
Logic.... (Do you need it?) (Yes, please.)
Its a fallacy of statistics no matter how you spin it. More people left and are hopefully watching this game from the sidelines then are still playing. A simple trip down youtube lane and any fansite can catch you up woth what is going on in this game. There is not that much content to where you NEED to play every part of it to atleast form a personal opinion.
This site is all like minded people or else you are right, they wouldnt be playing, however the dismal amount of us that are playing are not what SE wants, they want the 600k that left back. You are wrong also if you think that the subs only truely effect us. This forum is a drop of water as far as the actual community goes. How many of them do you think is on the fence right now? you will wake up when you see ghost towns and ask yourself why the forums are so cheery when the towns are dead. You will see why. This forum is rampant with fanboism, I feel that other fan sites actually have better arguments and I've seen far better posts on them then on here.
enacting subs is just going to turn those away that want to try a patch they are interested in now down the road. I could give two shites about paying for this game as like ive said i enjoy it enough, but i'm more worried about the fact that there will no longer be people atleast coming in to try patches. Allowing that has caused people to atleast maintain interest in the game and watch it.
After a full year of being away from it how many people do you think will still care about this game? Like i said it is poor business practice on multiple levels. It pushes those on the fence out, and it is an unsound investment to put money in to a already failed game while they push out the non failed version a year from now. Why do we have to pay for a game thats being replaced? It really does not make any sense. SE has more then enough publishings and ips to fund this game until it is actually complete.
I like how "Implementing literally the next best thing to a ground-up AH, implementing a jobs system, and a kupoload of instanced content, as well as rebalancing class abilities in preperation for 2.0, along with a lot of other stuff we probably don't know about" is "minor tweaks".
Just like we got minor changes while they worked on the absolutely massive 1.19 + 1.19a, we will get minor changes while the work 2.0, which I have a feeling will be even more massive than the combination of 1.19 and 1.19a.
Also we are getting the Basic systems by Feb 2012 ( Auction House Functions, Search Features, Party System, Friend System, Deilvery System, Linkshell Upgrades, Parley ( minigame), More Dungeons, Chocobo Content, Company Content, Primal battles, So much more that were getting WAY before 2.0 which will be implemented into 2.0 =)
*Some things like Dungeons and Primal battles with Obviously come on a patch by patch basis but they will come slowly but surely =)
I'll be happy to tell them all about it. and how living through it was a wonderful experience for me and my Fellow Friends ( Eorzean Knights Prepare for Battle, the 7th Umbra Era is Upon us!)
This is what I hope to be come VErsion 2.0:
Currently
- Lancer 50 ( Champions Lance /w +16 STR Materia Attached) ( Thanks to Thevedis for the binding =) )
- Pugilist 50
- Archer 43
- Botanist 39
What I want to get done by 2.0
- @ least 10 mil gil Heading into the 7th Umbra Era
- Botanist 50
- Archer 50
- Materia on my Pugilist Gear/weapon
- Materia on my Lancer Gear
- Materia on my Archer Gear/weapon
Yeah, I'm trying to plan out my year and where to be in 2.0 as well.. Thing is, I don't want to level everything up.. I want to have a class or two below 20 so I can check out all the new low level stuff without having to purchase an extra character.
So looks like I'm shooting for 50gld and mrd, possibly pug by the time 2.0 hits. Everything else I'll leave where it is currently at and work on after 2.0 hits. At least.. that's the "plan".. how well I stick to it has yet to be determined.
I much prefer to wait for the new system than what we have now. The current system is flawed and releasing the super-content would be less fun than what it should have been. And people would whine and say the devs fail, so it's better to have it in v2.0 so they can focus on having 2.0 out as quick as possible. Also, the game is still very fun as it is now.
Well, this is Just my Main Character. I plan to make a Secondary Character Come 2.0 Launch, so I can Experience everything at hand, just as if I were playing the game a new, that way I can enhance my gaming experience, then to rather just use my level 50's and trample all the low level content, not doing it from the ground up.
On my Main I'll still have:
CNJ- 20
THM- 20
GLD- 26
MRD- 26
I still have those to Level it with the Content of FFXIV 2.0 =)
just so you know they are putting in a party search tool and AH like system in by 1.20
and fees dont start before players didnt have time to test 1.20
Dunno what people expected of SE, they're taking 5 years worth of failed design and re-releasing a new game for the most part in a year or so, I think that alone tells you how many people they got working on 14.
That's such a ridiculous statement you have no idea. This entire time before the 2.0 announcement we've all been saying what a great job Yoshi-P is doing and how quick he's banging out these huge updates, and as soon as he announces there's something bigger going on behind the scenes the first thing you say is that these are minor updates and he's punching us in the stomach?? What is wrong with you, seriously...
If you don't want to acknowledge the ammount of dedication and work they have put into reworking this game from the ground up basically, and you don't want to pay now, and you don't want to wait by their timetable for the completely redone product, very simple...don't. Those of us who do, and want to, very simply...will.
That's all that really needed to be said for this thread..
There is alot of content, lore, etc coming throughout the next year that I suppose the OP just glossed over.. A lot of which will be exclusive to those who decide to stay through this pre-2.0 period. If it really bothers you, just don't sub.. I think SE is confident that the number of players deciding to stay will be more than 'enough' to last until they restart marketing campaigns for 2.0. So.. cya around then, or not, whatever..
Finally somebody who gets it, the problem is not that 60% of people will pay, the problem is that like he mentioned the stats are biased because they come from this site. How many players are NOT registered to the official forums??? Lots I would wager. I could make up some numbers to get you to the same point he is trying to convey.
All numbers could be substituted in to match what really are actual numbers.
Example:
500k people bought the game
100k people play the game
10k people registered and post on the forums
60% will pay to play => 6k will pay
But how many does this actually mean when compared to the actual number of players? Let’s do the math:
6k/100k = 6% of people will pay to play.
Okay, so my numbers don’t make any sense cause I didn’t take into account that some of those people will pay, but we can’t know how many without doing a lot more math, but I’m not good at stats and the crap that goes with it. I could do even more math to figure out the population and sample means, ST Dev, etc. I’m not that good at stats, but I think my point is made.
In no way saying the sample mean/stat of 60% holds true for the 100k actual players. As the proportion of members of the official forums are as mentioned more than likely fanboys and tend to disproportionately favor SE’s games/positions.
Any numbers or vote counts are totally invalidated if given by any site, even this one. It simply can’t take in effect the missing variables of how many post/registered on this site vs. how many play the game. To be accurate, you would need to do a poll on each of the major sites and get responses then do all the fun math/stats stuff like coefficients, variances, covariance’s, sample means, st. dev, some other stuff I probably forgot to get an accurate number of people willing to play.
Wait and see is a much easier approach. Also, he is very much correct as I posted in one of my other thread replies, SE totally wants the 600k people they left back at the beginning, they would be fools to not want them. They need the money to make up for the lack and loss of what they expected to make.
The world is dead other than outside of Uldah. I have seen some people traveling more, but as a central hub Uldah is the current ranking of how many people are playing. If SE hadn’t removed the seach all function where it returned all players in the world we might be able to get some accurate measure of how many people actually play. (or maybe I’m missing some place the info is located at, same for how many people are actually registered on this site/forums)
Either way, without real numbers, from multiple sources the numbers will not pan out. I apologize if my post comes as random musings, I understand statistics and how to read/interpret the information but not necessarily how to do the equations, stats class was a while ago.
EDIT: looking at this post LINKY it would seem a different website came to a difference conclusion about if people were willing to pay or not. Reinforces my post that more sites would need to be polled in order to gather better information/stats.
