And to everyone saying it will be a choice: you're wrong. You're just wrong. The vast majority of Japanese players will play on Japanese-only servers if given the choice, which will remove the choice for us to play on a truly global server.

See, them giving a choice and the JP players CHOOSING to segregate themselves does not take away your choice. Sure, it might be a dead server, but have you actually thought about why you want to play with people who very obviously do not want anything to do with you?

Most Japanese players from XI did not want to play with anyone but Japanese players. How exactly is having 400 Japanese on at prime time on my server helping me get a party when maybe a handful of them will be in my level range and only a few out of those people will even consider playing with someone who isn't Japanese?

I don't blame them, but as far as I'm concerned, if they don't want to play with me, that's fine. I don't want to be on the same server as people who are obviously not going to be willing to put aside the language barrier to XP. I was in JP parties in XI and as long as I would write a few Japanese phrases to show that I was trying, it was usually fine. However there were numerous times where I got, "JP ONLY" in response to a party request.

Also, when people say that JP people aren't used to the rude Americans, I have to wonder if they actually played XI. The few times where there would be a lone JP person filling the spot in our English party, as soon as one small thing would happen, they'd tend to blow up like someone who has worked a job for 20 years without a raise. Wipe or an accidental add? "YOU ARE WORST NA!" A friend had that happen to her party, and I saw similar in some of mine. Sure, the typical American teen might be more obnoxious than the typical JP teen, but from what I saw JP players were more likely to blow a gasket and blame the NAs.

Please give us English specific servers and the ability to transfer to these servers.

Why not support language/region specific party search for high lvl instances/dungeons only? I can understand that communication is critical there. Yoshi P talked about "wordless" server system for 2.0 in the design documents.
But with the regular behest, questing, crafting, etc activities you can get by absolutely well with the translator, so they could keep global / mixed language servers. I would hate to see Japanese players all gone...

So...it doesn't remove my choice but "it might be a dead server?" Which is it? No Japanese players on a "global" server for a Japanese game means it isn't a global server. It's really pretty simple, and it was the entire point of the OP. They act like they're giving us a choice, but de facto segregation will take over and there will be no global servers.

Basically, the majority of Japanese players probably don't care one way or the other, but they will follow the other people to the language-specific servers out of convenience. Over time, as more people from specific regions choose to play with their friends, servers will become more and more segregated. You're thinking of it as "fine, I don't want to play with people who don't want to play with me anyway," but in fact most of them have no strong feelings about playing with you or not. The situation will be that a friend of a friend was a "JP ONLY" jerk and the rest were just pulled along for the ride.

You obviously didn't read my post if you're asking that question either. I party with Japanese players at least as often as with English speakers. In XI I ended up partying with them more for endgame things because NA players refuse to work outside their LS for anything other than EXP.

However, I understand that my experiences are different than yours because I can communicate without the auto-translator. It's very unfortunate that people get met with "JP ONLY" but that's just some jerks that shouldn't be able to ruin the only MMO with international servers for everyone. Just think of them the same as people who won't party with you because you don't have <piece of equipment> or <ability from other class>. Screw them.

Because that's one handful more people than you had before in a non-peak time for your region (I'm assuming somewhere in NA but I could be wrong). If you play a game that only has NA servers and 100 people are online at 4:00AM, that's what you get to play with (of course there are further concerns of what they want to do, their classes, levels, etc.). If instead you're on a global server where there are 100 people from NA on at 4:00AM plus 1000 Japanese people who are on because it's 8:00PM there, even if 950 of them don't want to play with you there are 50 more than you'd have otherwise.

Edit: Sorry, added the second paragraph because I decided "de facto segregation" wasn't clear enough regarding an MMO.

Its 300ms from the US or EU to JP in most cases, add that on top of laggy servers you are looking over 1-2 secs delay.

I will miss playing with the JP...some of the coolest people I have met on FFXI was Japanese. They were all very kind to me and easy to talk to.

The irony here being that you flare up (like a child) in response to an analogy that was referring specifically to the Japanese players (the child) being "coerced" to try something new: global servers (the food).

The further irony being that you tell the OP to learn to read, when it is clearly you with the reading comprehension problems, given that you could not understand from the post that it was not directed at you at all.

I don't care either way, and I lived in Japan for a couple years. I don't play FFs to meet Japanese people, personally. If they want to log onto a game to relax only to have to jump through language hoops to accomplish things...well, I could see that being a cause of stress rather than relaxation. To each their own, nonetheless.

At the risk of sounding like a weaboo,

When I first played XI, I found it to be an admirable quality that the servers were global. I loved experiencing personalities from all cultures, but especially Japanese. I was already an anime fan back then, and mingling with the Japanese community fueled my interest in the language. I've only started to seriously study it this past year, but life is full of its distractions.

If region-specific servers are opened, I'll lose many friends. I won't have nearly as many opportunities to practice speaking Japanese. If I will myself to mask my IP through a Japanese proxy I will alienate my English friends, not to mention the added cost of paying for said proxy.

Needless to say, I hate this idea. It might be selfish, but who's to say they aren't either?

why divide us from language and lands when the biggest thing that seperates us as players is hardcore or casual, divide servers to that extent, it's the real language we talk.

but really i don't think servers should be divided ...unless seriously casual or hardcore ...ty.

Unless they have servers based on different parts of the world to allow for lower pings it dosn't matter how they organize the new servers. I like having the global servers personally but I find using the auto translate is annoying and limits what you can really say.

On topic: I completely agree with OP. Force them to play with us. As xenophobic as they are, it's fun to have them around and if the auto-translator was just a bit more up-to date it would be even easier to communicate.

Despite what I just wrote in my previous post about a lot of Japanese players being in favor of global servers in their thread on the topic...

I think you're right about this.

When new players are coming into the game, if they are presented with a choice of language-specific servers, the majority will probably choose Japanese-only servers because that is where they will feel most comfortable.

The existing global servers may just see their player populations dwindle as people switch servers or quit, with very few new players coming in.

My main concern is Economy. If all of japan goes to japanese server, who will make all my endgame items? :P Will the game cater to people who work 3rd shift? Majorly the population differences during certain times of the day/night when i need someone to repair my gear? Finding parties at off hours? I play with a Portuguese ls and an English ls. I don't speak Portuguese one bit, but we could still manage to do darkhold together. Having a world where people from all over log on enhances the chance of finding people to do content with, whenever you log on. I also have a feeling if they offer segregated worlds, the global worlds will become empty. and some of the races that do play don't have a strong enough following for their own world to be sustainable successfully (i.e i don't see alot of french or german players.) You are going to spread your player base thin, and will become even harder to find people to do content with. Hence will i be forced to go to a regional server even though i don't want to, just to find a player base? And i will really miss the multi-cultural experience that i have come to expect and love from ff mmo's. If the jap don't want to play with me fine. but at least allow them to fill my ah with goods.

While this is completely true, it's only within their own people it seems like sometimes. If they extended this polite and respectfulness to the rest of the world, the rest of the world would be more than happy to give it back.

If the English servers were hosted on our side of the ocean, I'd consider transferring, but since I doubt that will be the case I'll certainly stay on the global server. I think the multi-region servers are a fantastic feature and I really enjoy being able to play with people around the world.

I second the motion. The best part of any MMO is the multi-region. Meeting people from all over the world is what got me hooked into playing MMOs, no the pretty cutscenes or the flashy toons.

Better to play with JPN players since they're both tactful and efficient which is really all I can ask for.

People who want language specific serves must not know how interdependent we are on each other economy wise. My crap gets bought up on the a market ward by JPs and EU players, and maybe a later night US. I probably buy more stuff from JP and EU players when they are in bed, and its daylight where I am. I wouldn't ever want a language specific server, I've never been treated badly by a JP ever, and I'd would like Selbina to stay global, because its very francophone too, donc, je peut practiquer mon français. But actually I'd had a francophone ls be more of total elitist dicks to me in XIV than a jp one, I've actually joined up and helped many a JP and vice versa.

Sometimes American players don't know what they did that pissed off a JP, its okay, not everyone has to learn everything about every culture, but if you would like to play with JPs its nice to know a little bit about their culture, and particularly what as a westerner you do by accident that might annoy them, but even if you did, its not like they're a whole culture of unforgiving people learning to say sorry in japanese helps to, and I'm not sure about in XIV but some japanese didn't like romaji, is that true for this game, does anyone know?

Personally I'll be playing on a global server. I've made many JP friends in XI and XIV, even though I can't speak a single word of their language. It's more fun to play with people from all around the world in my opinion.

However, I wouldn't agree that forcing us all to a global server would be the right thing to do. People should have a choice.

I remember the whole thing unfolding in XI. NA players move into the game and are of course,noobs (Like all new players). Trouble is this was 2003 and many people had no idea about MMO manners. JP had a full year to learn the basics and when NA showed up they instantly labeled them terrible, rude etc. As the years went on the NA far surpassed the JP on my server. Sure the JP had full land king gear when we all joined the game and looked the definition of ELITE. As time went on they proved otherwise.

I still remember one of my last merit parties was with a couple of the JP from those linkshells, they were by far the worst players you could get into a group with. Full adaman with spike necklace and warriors belt. They didn't do a thing after land kings and as far as I know many didn't even manage to get sea access.

Really get tired of the "Respect the JP's!!" blabber. Like the one's that used to go around spam switching gear because they had some mental deficiency that sent them into a blind rage if someone inspected their gear. I was on the same server for many years and met maybe 2-3 JP that were not completely self absorbed and rude.

We even had one famous guy that used to setup camp and sell food and such and had "JP ONLY BUY" in his comment, if an NA would buy some of his stuff he'd rage and spam slap and threaten GM calls (lol)

Another specific linkshell used to try their best to train spiders on faf everytime NA would get a claim and shout insults when NA first started camping kings.

I'll give my respect where it's due but in this case they deserved none.

I remember one time in FFXI, I was getting death threats from a jp player when I was trying to invite him to my party lol. However that doesn't bother me, I enjoy playing this game with people from across the globe. That is the best and the most unique thing for FFXI and FFXIV. So, I don't approve of language specific servers.

Really don't care either way. As it was said previously - I can't see you people through my screen, you can be a 1 armed, 3 eyed midget and I would probably never know. Just let me stab things.

Personally language specific servers cut off my choices for the game, the global servers will be damn near barren during my usual primetime, but I can't join a Japanese server just to play with groups I can find online during my playtime.

I enjoy a mix, but allowing people to segregate themselves will make the "Global" servers a laughing stock, especially outside of NA/EU primetime.

But, I very rarely if ever got invited to their parties (so lonely), However those lovely Aussies who shared the same primetime as us not only invited me to go XPing, but also spoke the same language. So if they segregate the servers by Language rather than Region, the English speakers stand to lose the least in the way of 24 hour server populations, it's the Japanese that stand to lose the most in way of player populations.

Mixed servers are the only way to go. It keeps the world alive 24/7 and I love teaming up with the JP community.

Lucky you, I got kicked out of TONS of JP only parties in FFXI. Even when trying to use Auto-translate.

I'm in full support of regional servers less to keep within my language barrier (I really don't care, I know enough common phrases in Japanese that it's not a problem unless they're stuck up) and more to keep away from the weeaboos and posers who think Japanese people are God's gift to MMOs. I'd rather deal with an JP player being rude to me than a fellow NA sucking up to that person as if they're the holy grail of gaming due to their ethnicity.

1- I care about Delay in servers, its important in game play especially with SE current servers, My ping to besaid server is about "380ms", but if i ping to an EU server or US? its not more than 200ms~ & anything above 200ms will be slow for me ><; .

2- I also care about mixing us togather in one server~ why? its always good to mix different people togather~ discovering each other cultures~ interact with each other~ learn other languages as well as more party invites~ even if its for a little bit .

So for me... not sure which server to join ; w ; .

This is exactly what I was talking about a few pages back. Having 400-500 extra Japanese players on during their prime time does nothing for me if they're unwilling to play with me.

Also, I don't quite understand why people are freaking out about this. Did the roadmap mention a cross-server dungeon finder or something? Maybe I've been up to long, but I could have sworn I read people talking about that somewhere. If there is, I guarantee that it will be separated by language as well, and most JP people will click the JP only box. But even if there isn't a cross-server tool, I don't quite understand all of this freaking out over prime times. It will likely be language specific, not regional, and even if it's regional, there are still plenty of people on at all hours of the day. You people freaking out aren't the only person online at 2am. I never have a problem in WoW playing at odd times during the day, even with stuff that is only on my server, not PvP or LFD. Same way with XI, it was only after a lot of people stopped logging on during the 2006 inflation that I started having problems finding people to do stuff with.

The servers will likely all be hosted in Japan, regardless of what language/region they are for. Thus your ping will still be the same.

I feel the same way, but honestly, I'm glad that there is a choice in the matter. If most of the Japanese people want their own servers, I don't understand what the problem is. They'll be on JP only servers suffering when there aren't people on at prime time, whereas Europe and NA will likely be on the same servers since most EUs I've come across don't have much of a problem interacting in English, even if they only know basics and don't quite have the grammar worked out.

Really, this is only going to hurt JP players, but if that's what they want, that's fine with me.

I, for one, will be happy to see segregated servers. Although I generally like to play alongside the Japanese, and as well they tend to be good players, I'm about sick and tired of invites for various events turned down due to the simple fact that I don't speak Japanese. I can understand the language barrier and the reasonings for not doing highly strategic events such as Ifrit and such, but an EXP party? Come on. I honestly don't remember the last time I had to tell someone what to do in a grind party, and if I did, then there are plenty of translator terms in place.

Is it because of racism that they don't join us for these types of things? I mean, I remember when I transferred to Cerberus playing XI and literally had to leave the server because I couldn't get anything done due to not being able to start or join anything. If so, then that's a harsh thing to think about: defaulting out because of some unwarranted sense of superiority.
