So Specialist Recipees are in the game.

Specialist recipes are not a problem. Just find one or two people to collaborate with (this is an mmo after all, don't isolate yourself in a hole and then complain about the situation you've put yourself in) and choose your specializations to compliment each other so you can cover 6/8 or even 8/8. Very simple. Friends, FC, LS, even PF or just shouting about what you need...use the resources that are available and you'll be golden.

I'm not sure what you mean by having 8 specialists is easier than getting every master recipe book 2 before HW. If you want 8 specialists at the same time, you're going to need two alts as far as I know, which is quite a bit of grinding. If you want to make use of all 8 sets of specialist recipes using a single character, it'll take over 1 week worth of scrips to change one specialization. It isn't something you would do unless you believe that you chose the wrong specializations.

On the other hand, the 2nd master books were quick to do and once you figured how to effectively build 11 stacks of inner quiet (not difficult, but I suspect most crafters were not effective at it), you just spammed the same process over and over.

It will make the DoHs world more cooperative which is not bad per se and again the recipes are just probably few useless items.. It's really no big deal.

The DoW/M example kind of works: you cannot be the top at more than 1-2 jobs. Endgame as a WVR will make you top for glamours (example), you can compare it to SMN which is strong at AoE.. Next patch you want to be a GSM to sell top tier accessories.. Well you can, as you can change to main MNK and be good in single target. In both cases it's not an easy and fast change but for sure the DoH one is the easier cause you just have to buy one soul of the crafter cause nothing prevents you from getting all your DoH their BiS while for a DoW/M it means a full gearset of last tomestone/raid/craft BiS and grinding a new relic..

You really think tanking a fight is anywhere near close to healing it, or DPSing it? Heck, tanking as a WAR is different than as a PLD is different than as a DRK. Its not like you can use the same rotation and macros for every job...but crafters can do that...maybe we need to make each crafter have completely different rotations you can't macro?

Incorrect. Souls of the specialists are buyable with red scrips, and it /is/ something you would do if you want to specialize everything, as it's the only way to do so.

Not like you need a lot of red scrips or even the red scrip gear for much than buying mats.

Nothing ignorant here. I know full well the difference between being a healer, tank and DPS. It's why I a. don't heal, b. stopped tanking a long time ago, and C. Prefer to melee DPS. That doesn't change the fact that absolutely nothing is physically stopping you from doing all of these things in any content in the game. Like I said, you can go into Alex Savage in any class you like since i180 gear is available freely and endlessly. The game doesn't stop you, your fellow raiders who you choose to run the content with do. Your snarky remark about making useless items is irrelevant. Crafting is what it is, and we all know that battle content is the core content of the game, and will obviously have far more to it than crafting ever will. The comparison is still solid though - You can do the battle content fully if you want. With specialist restrictions you cannot do all crafting content (without alts).

And as a Monk main, yes can we please get a real use for One Ilm Punch?

Except you can only specialize in three classes, and regardless of what you may believe, dropping 480 red scrips to switch is quite the punch in the gut. That is the entire point of contention over this system.

The way I see it, if you want to specialize in 8 classes, you'll going to have to do one of the following:

1) Get your alts ready
2) Buy all of your red scrip materials off the market board and then decide on which specializations you want for the week. You can only change one, but over the course of 4 weeks, you can completely change them out.

I'm sorry.. do you not understand that you're limited to ever owning a maximum of three specialist souls at any given moment? It's not like you just save up for a complete collection of crafter souls and then you're set forever. If you want a fourth soul you have to relinquish one of the three you currently own, and then you have to buy it back again (and dump another soul) if you want to swap back. Do you know how ridiculously impractical it is to be switching back and forth as needed?

The fact that you can switch souls.. it's not meant to be used the way you're suggesting crafters use it. That's why the cost of constantly switching is crazy. It's meant to be a safety net - as in your three souls aren't permanent choices and can be switched if you made a mistake/regret your choice.

You said it yourself, it's definitely possible. Crafting a recipe intended for specialists on a non-specialist class should also be possible....but only if you are an exceptional crafter who really knows how to get everything out of what you have to work with. And I'm not arguing whether you're gud enough to clear the content. That's a skill issue, not a system issue. Point is, you can go into A4S and experience it as whatever role you like. Your gear and class choices are not locking you out of anything. And if we're going to bring the "realistic" perspective of just how unfeasible A4S in i180 might be to actually clear, I will bring the real fact that anyone serious about doing this will have had plenty of time and opportunity to gear multiple classes up well past i180. I myself have three classes at i190 and don't raid at all. Plenty of my raider friends are above i200 on multiple classes at this point, without clearing A4S (no one on Mateus has cleared it as far as I know, lol). If I could eventually buy all specializations, even if it I had to eat 480 red scrips a week to do so...I would be perfectly fine with the whole system and would have only slight grumblings along the way about that guy who made a Faerie Chandelier before I did.

You do realize red scrips are used for more than just Soul of the Craft switching right? I use that Soul, I lose my crafting for the week. Perhaps 3.1 will alleviate this with more ways to get the mats, but it is still a HUGE sacrifice to switch specializations, and one no crafter takes lightly, and most don't take at all.

I'm a little disappointed that I can't do everything, But I suppose I'll live with it. On the assumption they don't screw it up and make three of the DoH's specialist recipes clearly better than the rest, like they did with Desynth and after a fashion the Demimateria recipes.

As they currently are, specialists are absolutely pointless. Those 'specialist' skills? Not worth the paper they were designed on. You're better off sticking to cross-class skills like you do for 90% of your crafting career. They rely so heavily on RNG that to get any use out of the skills, you have to have the luck of the Irish. There is not a single specialist skill which is worth wasting space for on your hotbar at the moment, not even 'Heart of the XXX', since that is still very random and eats consumables to boot!

Personally, I'm totally okay with them adding specialist recipes. My only issue is that I have strong doubts that these recipes will actually be worth crafting. Right now, the high level crafts that you might actually want to make are items that are only aimed at crafters, namely the top-end tools. This circular premise of 'we craft, so we can craft some more' is one of the reasons I got disheartened by their design choices.

I want something interesting added. Something that makes my specialist worth being a specialist. I won't get excited until I see the update for myself.

It's not quite that simple. If you use your red scrips to change a specialization, you're also locked out of crafting materials for the week. Crafting materials can technically be purchased off the market board at a premium. However, on my server, most are not even available except for purified coke (occasionally) which has been selling for around 250k each (this translates to over 1.2 million gil for a single adamantite ingot; usually 3 or 4 of these kind of materials are required for a single piece of gear). For this reason, buying the materials is not an option for most crafters at the moment, but that might change in 3.1.

I doubt most raiders would want to swap out their i200+ gear in this manner if it also meant being locked out of all raids for the week unless they paid a huge entrance fee.

You will be still not geared enough to do the new raid with the lowest tome gear.

You need 1-2 weeks to change spezialisation
you need around a month to get another battle class top raid ready.

This is actually very good, everyone beeing able to craft everything just kills off the MB. on balmung the MB is almost dead. few things sell. the ones that do, keep getting undercutted, cuss atm, everyone and anyone can do them. Add it to the higher craftmanship and control requirements it will be even better. the more items they add, the better will be too, even an great omnicrafter will have trouble keeping up with all the hot markets (time restrains and such) forcing them to prioritize, and freeing room for new crafters and gatherers to work the MB.
if you bothered and worked enough to maximize and get/meld bis a crafter or a gatherer, then you should and have the right to reap the benefits from having done so.
players need to be forced to trade/sell/buy things from other players to keep the market working.
(honestly i still miss FFXI AH system, where people could not see what other items are up for, it did help with not get undercutted every 2 min)

Everyone that claims that specialization is needed to "fix" a current broken economy is completely ignorant about economics. There is nothing wrong with the current in game economy. Prices are stable, there is no rampant inflation or deflation.

The ones complaining about the economy are only the ones that, like the OP said, are greedy and think this will give them an advantage.

This game does not need to introduce more ways to bar players from content.

specialization is not a fix, its a way to give the market a boost. each server has its own market, and will be affected in a either positive or negative way. i can only speak from how it is in mine, and let me tell you, it isnt triving.
beeing able to make a profit from something that others cannot make doesnt you greedy.
hell lets reset every single gear to a equal status and give everyone acess to everything crafting and gathering wise, set requirements to 0, and see how much better the mb will be. IT wILL NOT. if you can make it yourself you wll not buy from other players. if other players can make it themselves they will not buy from you.

I'm EXTREMELY happy about new and special recp for specialists!! Can't wait!

Will I gain an advantage from being a Weaver Specialist? Sure, I'll be able to make stuff people who didn't opt for Weaver Specialist cannot. The exact reverse is true though. SE knows the main thing putting people off crafting is the fact that you basically need everything leveled, they even said Specialist skills would be addressing that, but instead Specialist skills are just utter rubbish. Address that and perhaps more people will actually pick up crafting, because they can just level Weaver and be fine... Even without that though, Heavensward has done a pretty good job of giving non-crafters a means to make Gil, many crafters loath the new material heavy recipes, but I look at them and think "Good, people can actually farm for Gil now", though whether people are willing to do that is another question entirely, having dabbled in Heavensward farming, I can certainly say it seems lucrative enough though. Hopefully SE doesn't ruin it by just dumping materials in dungeons again... I think they had good intentions doing that, but it just saturated the market and resulted in the stuff being next to worthless, another issue with that was the relatively low demand at the time, too...

i completly agree with Taisai, specialization is a double edged sword, but its a good one.
on FF11 you could only have 1 main craft job fully leveled. it forced players to create alts if they really wanted more than one craft, but most players didnt bother with such. the economy was just fine, gil moved around, because if someone wanted something they could not make, there was no way around it, they had to get through AH/friends.
the only reason i can see one complaining about specialization is if one gets annoyed over the fact that others can make something that they cannot... in wich case... whos really greedy here? i dont really think its the crafters that are ok with specialization.
Specialist skills just need a little adjusting, or some dedicated crafters to mess with them around enough to figure out how they work the best in conjunctions with the class nativel skills, without using cross skills from other crafts.

I dunno why everyone joined this hate bandwagon for specialist skills, whistle while working is always worth using, it saves you turns when you increase progress while satisfaction buff is on and it also boosts HQ points more.

heart skill is of great use if you are lucky but if you are unlucky it can fail you horribly, I have not usen any other skills in my rotations though because I have a horrible math head and I don't wanna use a calculator while crafting lol.

i think the main "issue" crafters have with the specialization skills is that, they are just "ok" but they are not "great". at the moment, no crafter will be removing a cross skill from another craft because he has acess to the specializations skills, wich supposely was the reason those skills were created for, example, to remove the need for a weaver to have goldsmith to 50 for innovation, because as a specialist they can use innovative touch. (i keep having issues with that one cuss i keep forgetting i will actually cost the 10 durability for the buff ><; too used to innovation, not mentioning that hte skill sucess rate of 40% is just... a inducer of crying or intense prayer fr sucess).

I have never usen innovative touch, only whistle satisfaction, heart skills (if I feel lucky) and the skill which restores durability, so no they don't replace cross class abilities, specialist just adds new skills to your rotation.

People in this thread doest understand economics or free markets. All theses pro specialist people just want less competition and put the buyer in a strangle hold. The market boards are fine and people are buying stuff all the time. Check the buy history ffs. Some item don't move as fast as others that's apart of the economy. So the nobody is buying stuff lie needs to die.

They did not even fix the specialists skills. Which is very non casual and not very intuitive. It boggle my mind people think this is casual friendly let alone get more people to craft. All this going to do is have the crafter with alts have the edge or everyone else from omni crafters to the casual crafters. Cause they can have all the specialists at once while the rest of the crafters that put forth the EFFORT to git gud (great) at crafting gets gut punch cause lazy people looking at omni crafters and want the same benefits but not put in the same effort while barring these very dedicated crafters at the same time.

exactly, in the state they are now, their just "extra" skills.
their creation objective wich was removing the need of cross skills/leveling other crafts, was not fullfilled, i would say that more than angry/hate at teh skills, the crafters were disapointed with them.
they were supposed to be replacement skills for their counterpart skill that is native to a certain craft. but noone in their right mind will replace innovation in their rotation with a skill that has only 40% sucess rate, unless they love playing with the god of rng. you wont be replacing byregot's blessing 100% of the time with byregot's myracle, for example.

Not every server is loaded with crafters. Some do not have many at all. All this does is punish those servers without enough to make specialists a viable economic move.

We won't have an economy of 5-10 omnicrafters. We'll have 2-3 specialists in each class competing. That's it. Specialist recipes are the second-worst idea I've seen for 'reducing omnicrafting'. And even that's only by a fraction. There have been lots of people suggesting good and interesting ways. They all involve fixing specialists so that a new crafter doesn't need to master all classes. Specialists? It's just desynth V2. Remember Desynth? Remember how bad it is? Specialist recipes are that squared, because you still need to get all the crafting classes up for cross-class skills.

Why would anyone who crafts opt to buy something from someone else, when they themselves can likely make it for a fraction of the price? They wont, and they didn't.

If gear is worth buying again, then this would only increase the number of people who are buying, because all the omnicrafters (myself included) who can currently make everything would no longer be able to do so, we'd have to rely on others to obtain certain items. More people buying is only a good thing for the games economy. Less supply would probably be a concern if I didn't think this game already had too much... The i180 stuff has very little supply, but that's because of the rarity of materials (and worthlessness of the gear itself) more than anything, perhaps your server was different, but I remember stuff during the 2.0 cycle being routinely overstocked...

2.0, I would say, had high supply and low demand. High supply was a result of everyone being able to make everything. Low demand was a result of the same thing; I'm not going to be adding to demand when I can produce everything myself. Specialist recipes corrects this. It lowers supply while raising demand.

That's why I have an issue with Specialist skills. They were meant to make it easier to get into crafting, but they haven't done that at all. SE really needs to address that, since it would hopefully get more people into crafting... The main hurdle with crafting at the moment is that you need all eight leveled to really do anything with one of them, if Specialist skills corrected that like they were said to pre-launch, I'd imagine more people would get into crafting.

There is also potential for a general shift in gear to push more people into crafting... With crafted gear being stronger in 3.2, along with materia being even more desired with the ability to meld to tomestone/raid gear (plus Diadem seems to be making it possible to actually Spiritbond towards tier V materia), people are perhaps more likely turn to crafting to make Gil. Certainly most people I know who don't craft (yet loved crafting in XI) don't do so because Gil is fairly meaningless in this game, with there being nothing really to buy...

Specialist recipes won't make crafters buy things, and won't restart anything in the economy. USEFUL recipes (for glamour or otherwise) will restart the economy. The lack of anything worth purchasing and the insane costs associated with scrip mats are what killed the economy. Not omnicrafting. Omnicrafting is why there is still a trickle of activity.

A little critical thinking and analysis should show that fairly well.

And the FFXI crafting was good for 2 big reasons:

1. Can have multiple alts on one account like this game but unlike this game you can trade between with waaaaaay less hassle.

2. The main reason why the economy was good on there for crafter compared to here was there were no welfare armor (tomes gear) on that game. So their was no handout on gear so the server as a whole had to work in that economy. Those crafting changes in 3.2 are really for min/maxer cause you best believe there will be more tomes gear.

How exactly will crafters be obtaining the recipes locked behind Specialists they don't have, then?

If I pick Weaver, Leatherworker, and Goldsmithing as my Specialists, I cannot make for myself, Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armorer, Alchemist or Culinarian Specialist items. I will either have to rely on someone else to make them for me, or I will have to buy them. Right now, however, if I want something made by Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armorer, Goldsmithing, Leatherworker, Weaver, Alchemist or Culinarian, I'll bloody well make it myself for a fraction of the cost.

Specialist recipes will have more people buying things. Yes those things need to actually be worth a damn as well, but we've already been told 3.2 crafted gear will be stronger, and 3.1 is adding new crafted gear... Either that'll be i180 like the current worthless stuff, or it will potentially be useful as gear... Even if it isn't we've out right been told it'll be useful for tier V materia farming, and with the materia changes in 3.2, that's a pretty solid use for the stuff anyway...

Show me the omnicrafters who purchased Wootz/Arachne/etc. gear instead of making it themselves for a fraction of the cost, or keep walking.

Do you know what has pretty much consistently been the best market in this game? Selling crafting gear. Why do you think that is? I'm sure there are some omnicrafters who just want to speed up the process to get the gear, but I assure you, the vast majority are crafters who simply cannot make the gear, because they've only leveled Culinarian or something. Essentially the same deal Specialist recipes forces, and that is perhaps the real issue here... Omnicrafters don't like that they're being forced into this, and I actually kind of agree, I've already said earlier in the thread that I think a better system would be to just have Specialists boost your crafting stats, so Specialists can instantly make new high Craft/Control recipes, while omnicrafters have to work on reaching those new tiers. That said, I still fully agree with the general concept behind Specialist recipes.

Actually... That's one of the things I was against when Specialist recipes were initial announced, pretty much for that reasons. Materials should be readily available, and non-crafters should have a solid means to obtain them to earn Gil (where as 2.# kinda went too far with this and dungeons, overdoing the supply and then some...), which is why I'm actually a fan of the increased material load on Heavensward recipes, Hippo skins were never particularly profitable to farm, but all the skins from Heavensward? There's potential there for non-crafters to make serious cash with some effort...

You completely missed the point. That was not why players disliked deynthesis. They disliked it because they had to choose which crafting schools to be limited to (for desynthesis), rather than being able to do them all - doing it all being something the game allowed and even encouraged up until that point.
