Retainers are not constantly tracked and updated unlike the Armory Chest, Action List (Which is divided up in to a bunch of different menus), and Inventory.

Also I expect most people just do not known how many data points a glamour log would need to track currently: 3.1 will put us over 7000 different pieces.

There's a difference though. Retainers aren't 100% tracked on the character. The inventory data can be brought out when you summon them, since it takes a short bit of time before you can access it and gives the server time. When you're playing your character however, it has to keep data running on the inventory unless you want a nice delay every time you open it up.

No to glamour log but. Yes to selling more glamour in the cash shop......... After 5 months without new content and how they seem to care about it i think i'm really starting to consider to quit the game and i'm not the only one in my circle of friends.

Then they can give us a solution that isn't immediately accessible. Make it an inn/housing feature like the Aesthetician, and perhaps only have it so we can "log" complete sets, as opposed to individual gear pieces. There should be a viable solution in the works, even if it's not a "glamour log." Telling your players "Nope. I don't wanna" probably wasn't the best way to go about dealing with the situation.

This is a great idea. Make it so the "Glamor Log" is opened via the Retainer Bell. Then there's even LESS of an excuse not to have such a thing (The current excuse being flimsy at best - seriously. When are the white knights going to stop pretending SE can do no wrong.)

Instead of wasting their time and our money in content like pet fights, they could focus on this kind of trouble we met since 1.0..... Inventory space!

I'm not saying that SE can do no wrong. I'm saying that thanks to limitations, they cannot have an inventory increase for a character who's inventory will constantly be updated while they are logged in. Retainers, as you've used for you example here, run off of a different kind of character and don't have their inventory loaded when the bell isn't rung for them.

I would rather, when they finally do it, that they do it right where a problem won't occur. I have seen other games literally destroy their inventory system and force rollback to fix it, making people lose out on what they've done. Imagine if they expanded it and it broke the inventory and caused everything you didn't have equipped to just vanish. You'd be upset, right?

As a nice little example, as much as I'm disagreeing with the company, Blizzard has stated why they aren't boosting their 16 slot starting bag. It's because they can't get it to where it won't break the inventory. They can make bigger bags to create and purchase since those aren't built into the character, but because it is built into the character, it's more difficult without destroying it completely.

I'd be fine with having to visit an NPC (though that'd be annoying... but so many things in this game are designed in an annoying way so I guess at least it'd be consistent), but no - definitely would not want to only be able to save complete sets. That would great limit customization.

Didn't they say that retainers are basically another full character (just like your on controllable character) stored on the server? If this is true, I would like to point out that a 1 character slot (per server) sub is 13 dollars while an 8 character slot is 15 dollars. You pay an extra 2 dollars for 7 character slot. 1 retainer is 2 dollars. Plus, you can only control your character 1 at a time. If you have 8 characters on one server and are playing 1 character, the other 7 isn't being accessed and updated either.

Even if we drop this inventory issue and just let it be duct taped with retainer, are the prices really fair?

I agree they need to find a solution rather than continually putting it off though I disagree its 'Nope. I don't wanna'. Personally I think SE needs to dedicate more resources to FF14. The issue is that the fixes that are needed require resources to implement and unless they get more the only way for the devs to work on this is to cut content from some other aspect of the game and considering how many people are upset due to running out of content, I don't think that's a good solution.

Trust me, my retainers are full too and I have to constantly junk sets I'd rather be keeping.

Just because you see a particularly piece of content as a waste of time and money doesn't mean other players aren't very much looking forward to it. Its also likely a lot of the people working on Lords of Verminion aren't going to be able to help much with fixing the Inventory issues. A 3D modeller generally doesn't necessarily have the knowledge to do coding on the data operations to fix the core issue with the Inventory. Not all devs are programmers.

who knows, maybe we'll get more resources available when FFXI closes it's doors. not all that long left in the ol' girl now. how long do they plan to maintain it after the finale patch?

I don't think they have given a sunset date on FFXI so probably a while.

That said, a game on maintenance is a lot cheaper than a game in active development. FF11 going on maintenance will free up resources. It will come down to wether SE executives funnel any of those resources toward FF14's development.

As it stands now, I think the XI team still has some work ahead of them. http://www.androidcentral.com/final-...bile-announced If they are working together with that, until that is released I imagine the team behind this last patch will be moved to the mobile development to help with the production of it while the remaining just work on bug squashing and fine tuning any last balances made to the game.

7000×1 is still "only" 7000 though, as that's all that would be needed for all of those in general - a simple binary switch, whether a character unlocked an item or didn't, yes or no (or, heck, it doesn't even need to be 7000 - only assign an item ID to a character once it's actually obtained, that way the not available ones don't even need to be attached to every character). Versus having all the 7000+ items physically, even if it was possible, would mean 7000×...how many? Colour, SB status (which is tracked even on items that are not convertible btw!), condition, stats, HQ or NQ, crafted-by... Don't tell me that's not a lot more data points.

And again, in light of this active and constant tracking issue of the inventory, I have to mention: backups of everyone's entire inventory every 15s is far too asinine. Allowing players to idle AFK for any longer than 1 hour is also far too asinine (and I do see dozens rooted to the same spot for 6-8-10 hours on a daily basis). Yet, nobody seems to notice this, nobody seems to want to do anything about this, everybody (devs and players alike) seem to be perfectly content with both of these as they are. Even though we're being reminded of data sizes and network stress time and time and time and time again.

If a complete glamour log is too much data, then why not a limited glamour log? Store a set number of pieces in the log at any given time. That alone would already be a gigantic step in the right direction.

People need to stop making excuses for them. PS3? So what you're saying is that if everyone rented an additional retainer, the PS3 would suddenly not be the limiting factor? The PS3 is not what is holding them back from adding more inventory space.

Final Fantasy XIV is the ONLY MMORPG actually, that has no Glamor Storage functionallity.

Sometimes ideas do not get implemented. A fact of life is you'll need to learn to take a "no" now and then, even when put bluntly. Sugarcoating it only leads to worse things down the line. You should be happy the addressed it at all, rather than leaving it up in the air.

The problem is "sometimes" has been becoming "often", or even "more often than not" lately, and in regards to core game elements at that. Core game elements that are being negatively affected by "sometimes" (or indeed "often") - and always with the same "reasoning" too, I mean how long will we keep on going without improvement? Are we expected to just keep rolling with everything as it is down the whole lifetime of the game? (I know I'm extrapolating, but that is how it feels "sometimes".)

We asked for housing reclamation they delivered we cry. We asked for easier accessible "Coil" they delivered we cry, we asked for easier content/harder content they delivered we cry. Most probably Yoshi needs to rethink some aspects. Inventory will be improved eventually just don't expect it soon but it will happen it's inevitable. Ofc I wish they could do it just now.

I wouldn't say that. They generally have implemented most of the stuff they promise. Storage is something they have said for a long time is 'we will see'. Im not saying it's good but its not like this is a sudden change.

This isn't also somehow across the board either. People act like SE doesn't listen at all but sometimes they just decide that an idea doesn't fit the game or isn't feasible with current resources.

Personally I expect the issue it the latter one. That doesn't make it better but unfortunately is a flaw of FF14 we have to live with at the moment. Getting up set over it when they have repeatedly said over and over again that its not something easy for them to fix means people aren't listening to them. There's a difference between pressuring SE on the subject and getting upset that some how they haven't suddenly changed everything they have said up to now.

Also, sometimes excuses, wether people are tired of them or not, are valid.

Maybe when they remove the stupid PS3 limitations we may get this... because many other games have it and this one not. It's clear as day that PS3 support is affecting greatly the development of the game. They may want to add this or that but then go check if there is space to add in PS3 and give up as soon they look at value. Is true the fact that this expansion alone is making PS3 game about to explode... imagine when they add more. That's why they may remove the support on 4.0 since we are being bind to a system from 2006! It 's 10 years from current technology and the game being a AAA that 's unforgivable.

To everyone saying that retainers are part of what yoshi-p considers inventory I will point this out. The retainers actually reside on a separate server to everything else hence why you can have so many of them and their data isn't as critical and if I had to guess is on cheaper slower access disk(read non-solid state). The inventory Yoshi-P is referring to is your personal inventory. Saying that it might be an easier solution rather than a glamour system you could change at will tie it into the retainers which have far less restrictions on them due to the systems that are in place. for example you deposit an item into your glamour retainer which then makes it available while talking to that retainer to glamour that item or any it has "stored".

We can only hope that after they drop ps3 the game will be improved enough to warrant the investment in PS4. I am interested how will they motivate current PS3 players enough to continue their support.

Couldnt we have a quick fix like...enable mailing between characters on your account. Then it's just a matter of leveling and alt and using them as a mule.

I know they disable trading between your own characters as to prevent it being abused but...what really could happen?? People are managing to get 2 billion gil without it.

Or why not just give us 2 free retainers are part of buying Heavensward.

I get the general complaint is "because its making them money" not to fix the problem but if we want it bad enough maybe we can get it? :S

Bottom line is they need to fix the problem, and they are not. They keep giving excuses and its frustrating to say the least. Every other mmo ive EVER PLAYED has never had inventory issues like this. I dont understand why this one has this glaring problem. Maybe they should rethink how they track inventory.

We are complaining since 2.0.. so don't get your expectations too high.. else you'll hit the invisible ceiling just like when Flying ;)

Then it will be another definite "YES" from the million+ player base on storing mass amounts of items that... maybe one day... we might glamor but wouldn't dare throw it away because RNG would screw us forever if we wanted it back.

Sorry to burst your bubble but PS3 isn't the reason why they don't do stuff like this. It's just a poor engine and lazy developers. DCUO saves all glamour and runs on ps3 and it's not even a pay to play game like this one.
