Oh OH! I have an idea! Let's make Chocobos like Relics that take 5 years to acquire and just to make it even more difficult, let's make it so that once you fail a quest to get a Chocobo, you can't get one EVER.

it wouldnt be enough, and your implying beating the other dungeon which we can also say is a challenging chocobo quest. caravan escort will prob gice 25 seals if that being its a rank 20 mission ans its repeatable.
i think DH is 3000 seals so without it id have 1750+1000 free seal=2750 so i would still need 250= i gotta do some quest.
Sorta way too easy to get them. I expected seals to buy them honestly but I figured it would be like 15,000-20,000 seals make you do some work for it with escorts and more quest or something. Getting a personal mount for practically nothing is sorta lame.
Too many people are looking at this at a already-high-rank point of view. Of course everyone that has done the R50 dungeon quest, and didn't spend them on a weapon or other things, has enough seals. But the R30 dungeon + other current company quests - R50 dungeon quest does not give you enough seals for a Company Chocobo. The new dailies (and/or company guildleves) will be new ways for not-yet rank45+ players to obtain Company Chocobos.
Think of the people who will start playing this game later on.
And yes it should (if it isn't planned) at least have a quest involved too.
Why does it seem like 75% of the posts here have completely missed the most important part of attaining the personal chocobo? You have to become a full member of a grand company first. They could make it take a year of grinding daily quests before you attain full membership. They could ask that you complete Drazmael Darkhold or attach 5 pieces of materia to an item. You guys have no idea yet you're in here complaining that it's going to be too easy. Get a grip please. Hell, it will have been a year since the game was released before we even have the opportunity to get them. So if all it takes is talking to some NPCs to join the company of my choice and bam I'm able to spend 3k seals to up and buy my chocobo. If that's how they've decided to handle it I'm good with that. I've waited long enough.
BS, that dungeon can't be beat in 10 minutes, by people who have never done it before...Quote:
yes! the poor new people... they will have to get like two other people to go take out the first low level dungeon which can be beat in like 10minutes and then they might have to do a few escort quests !!!
Reika is absolutely right - the fact is that not everything is designed to be challenging for people who are already maxed-out. Imagine if they DID have a quest to get a chocobo; it would either be difficult enough to challenge those of us who have various r50 jobs, or we would have people bitching about how 'easy and useless' the quest was.
Some folks are just never happy...
I think the only game where is hard to obtain a Chocobo is FFXI with its five hour quest. In all other FF's is always a rather simple quest/string of quests and Bam! you can mount chocobos. I think what has clouded your view is the time we have spent without other means of transportation, something akin to: "So, after a year with my two feet and anime to travel, now I can get chocobo just by doing this?" "This is not fair, it should be harder because of all I went through"
These are just Rented and Personal Chocobos issued by Grand Companies, a means of transportation, nothing more, nothing less. A question though, How do you get mounts in other MMO's? like Wow?
pretty sure i beat that dungeon for the first time on the hardest boss in under 30 min....
then a day later beat it on the easiest boss in like 10 min...
its especially easy when you can just look at a map that tells you what to do.
-NOTHING- in this game... AT ALL... is challenging atm. Except maybe Dzamael speed run and thats more about being able to gather a bunch of mages than it really is a challenge
In wow you reach level 20 and pay close to nothing for basic mount training, then pay even less than nothing per mount of that training level.... and that is the permanent mount.
In XIV you have to become a full member of a company, which requires doing quests, then earn enough seals to buy an issuance.
So, it is actually harder to get a permanent mount in FFXIV than in WoW.
They may include quest/detailed story line for My Chocobo 2 when they add the chocobo breeding in so just think of My Chocobo 1 as something they put in quick for us for faster travel. My Chocobo 2 with more stats, color, etc.
At least that's how I would do it if I was working for them coming up with ideas.
Hmm let's see:
- 30 minutes is three times as long as 10 minutes, so you've already backtracked quite a bit
- I just ran the dungeon 3 times with 4 r50's doing a little farming the other day. It takes almost 10 minutes to pop the first gate, and that's if you are going pretty quick and know exactly what you are doing. So I'm going to go ahead and call BS on your second claim.
- Sure, lots of things are easy if you cheat. There's no solution for that.
Things are a lot more challenging when you don't 'look at a map' where someone else has told you how to do it.Quote:

I think there are plenty of challenging things in this game; just not things that people want to do. Or are you telling me that you are running around killing the various r80-99 mobs we see without a challenge?
Is it also a 2-4 hour in depth quest line to get mounts in other MMO's too?
Even if you put it this way, I think the in depth quest lines should not be for mere methods of transportation... Taking it more close to Final Fantasy in what Final Fantasy does it take two to four hours to complete the questline for chocobos once you have access to it?
No quest...NO QUEST???? I just spent a year on my chocobo quest, what are you all talking about????
i said 30 min for the HARDEST boss. thats like opening -every- gate. First or second boss i can pretty well solo in 15min and with a party can do it in 10 min easy. You dont really have to kill anything, just run to the lights (which are always in the same spots). Boss fight takes less than 30 seconds...
I'm fine with it costing company seals, but maybe to appeal to the masochists that probably shouldn't even be playing MMORPGs, they could maybe increase the cost to 9000, or 10,000. By the looks of it you will be able to gain this much through doing all the quests + a few repeatables. I think that's fair. With them only costing 3,000 then the price is pointless since you can get that so easily. Nobody would use rental chocobos except for the "bottom-of-the-barrel lazy people".
I think the price would be more appropriate if it weren't for rentals. Both options are too cheap.
there is so much stuff you have to do to get a chocobo, alot more then ff11 actually. people are mad because there is no chocobo specific quest were the guy hand you your choc whistle and say's something like "you earned it". well get over it, in this game its a company issue chocobo.
The grand company quest dialogue mentioned a small snippet of text that alluded to purchasing your ranks within a company with seals. That may or may not be the case. So you may end up with less than 3k seals if you truly have to purchase your rank with seals. Don't forget there are incoming quests that are repeatable to earn company seals as well.
Furthermore, the chocobo is a means of getting us somewhere quickly. It makes the game accessible. We don't need a huge elaborate quest that spans the entirety of two months, simply running back and forth doing more fetch, daily, or levequests.
As someone mentioned previously, XI diehards confuse "challenging" with "time consuming for no reason" and the whining in this thread is proof.
People should be elated about chocobos and airships being implemented and easily accessible. Harder challenges will be on their way in the future, but a BASIC STAPLE OF TRANSPORTATION should not take 50 years to attain like XI masochists want.
uhh cept I have beaten batraal ? like 30 times+?
Also seem to have a bunch of the first NM kills on my server as well as being one of the oldest 50 mrd on the server...
Levelling Mrd at start of game = kill things in 3 seconds for 15 hours a day. the challenging part was not falling asleep.
Levelling ARC during coblyn grind + leve grind = repetitive 1-shotting coblyns and repetitive leves
2 dungeons = easy.
quests = all overly easy (solo'd everyone pretty well)
missions = can do every one at rank 1
behests = solo'd pug to 30ish on them so easy
what in this game isnt easy?
how many seals do you think they will give for rank 20 caravan support. im thinking somewhere around 10-25 per time.
the price is right were is should be so that rank 25-30 wil be able to get the personal chocobo.
all the in game seals right now up to rank 25 are 2750 which still leaves 250 seals to gather after 1.19. also you may have to use some of those seals to buy your next rank which will make the gap even bigger. attaining a mount should not be a long term goal.
not counting DH cause its rank45 and you shuold have a choc by rank 30
it's just a mode of transportation.... and basic.... why would we need to spend oh so many seals. let high seal costs go to chocobo gear and such, not just the simple privilege of riding one
lol.. masochist. No one is arguing that we'd like it to be painful.. but rather meaninful and require some effort and if you ask me, it's the other way around, the one's who are against any real effort or story or lore to gain something of great benefit in the game probably shouldn't even be playing MMORPGs.
Something some are also not considering is the possibility of having to pay a undetermined amount of seals to no longer be a provisional recruit. (it was the vibe i got from the seal explanation from the immortal flame at least)
I know that unless I go with another company I am going to have to do a bit of foot work to earn enough seals to get my personal bird from the Maelstrom. And im cool with that, Hell no one put a musket to my head and made me buy my lominsan bujh or doublet.
You might just need 10,000 seals to "graduate" from Recruit to Full Member. We don't know yet so please stop with the rage posts.
Also, you all need to look at all of this from a new player's viewpoint. Just because some of you already have 5000 seals from doing DH several times, does not mean that it is easy for a new player to get a Chocobo.
We are all playing "at your own risk" of being over-leveld for new content. That is our/your choice...not SE's problem. All new content is NOT going to be for R50's. Please understand that and enjoy what content you get or stop playing for awhile.
Many more changes are coming as well as new content that can be enjoyed by all levels. That is the whole point of an MMORPG....Level Specific Content to enjoy as you level. If some peeps want to grind to R50, then go back and do the content, that is a personal choice.
This.
Also, you all are 'forgetting' to consider a few things
1 - You require 3.000 seals PLUS whatever the cost is to rank up. Even if that still sounds low, take in mind that, currently , you would only get 3.000 seals by completing the regular quests AND the into the dark quest or Imperial Devices quests, which are quite hard for appropiate levelled members (hurr, dzemael is easy - of course, we all know everyone killed the ogre on the first tries without reading strategies, riiiiiiight?). Of course they're gonna add more regular quests, but they still can be challenging to near-chocobo-level players.
2 - Seals aren't only used for chocobos. 3.000 seals you use on a chocobo are 3.000 seals not being spent on unique itens and other privileges, so you are choosing to acquire the chocobo license instead of a good armor or a quest or whatever.
3 - We do not know how many seals we will get from caravan security, so we cannot yet assume that it will be easy to just spam seals and acquire chocobos.
4 - We do not know about future chocobo related development and possible costs. Unlocking the chocobo may as well be just the first step in a greater scheme. Of course, even step one of who knows how many MUST be a needlesly long and punishing road just for the sake of being a 'hard milestone'.
Come on, I like challenging content as well, but some people think we need to spend hours and defeat several HNMs to unlock ***** Cure II or the game is "ez mode".
Chocobos were sick, as far as I can remember from what the NPCs tells us. It has been that way for one (real life) year.
Well, guess what? The chocobos are now healthy again!
There's your explaination, give or take a few more ellaborate words and maybe a quest or two..
^This, I'm still kinda new to the game and I don't even know how to get company seals yet, I have little time to play most of the time, so I can't afford to look every guide and read every quest that is presented to me, so I still don't know a lot of the features and lore this game has, sure, it might be silly for people that are already high level and have loads of seals.
It's cool that some content it's only available to those who work hard for it and earn it but I don't think that having your own Chocobo should only be for "Elite and high lvl players" :(
Remember that they do have more content planned for Chocobos so perhaps that will involve things like quests.
oh..and just a last thing
How to get Chocobos in the Final Fantasy Series.
FFII, III, IV, V, VI, VIII, X, XII, XIII - Reach a chocobo forest (or other game equivalent like rent in XII) for a 'rental' chocobo, no 'personal' chocobo, unless you count Boko. Yep, sure took lots of work and had plenty of "rpg elements" for the mount.
FFVII - 'rental chocobo' - Reach chocobo footprints and equip the Chocobo Lure materia.
'personal chocobo' - Get far enough on the storyline.
FFIX - reach the chocobo forest. Talk to the moogle. You now have a 'personal' chocobo. Weee.
