So does the majority want the relic weapons to carry over into the expansion?

1.0 relics carried over and they built upon them so I don't see why they wouldn't again. What could happen is them simplifying and unifying the entire quests again, like they simplified the 1.0 relic quest, and make a single questline that gives you up to Nexus, and then work from there up to Zodiac with nerfed costs and what not. Though they could also just make a single questline that gives a fully upgraded i135 or whatever Zodiac, and once again work from there to whatever the next weapon forging quest will be.

Of course it would screw over everyone who worked for almost two years on their relic, but they already kind of did that in ARR with all the people who spent months in Hamlet and millions in crafting and melds, so they might do it again. Like the 1.0-ARR relic quest carry over, it most likely will also account for whatever progress was made, but of course with varying degrees of progression and more or less regret depending on which step you were at.

Just like doing all those Hamlets and spending all those millions put you up to Hydra, but if you didn't even get to the unfinished relic step you were left with an ok, but ultimately useless for the relic questline, weapon that was also already outdated since it was worse than the Moogle weapon you probably already had, and then you still had to do pretty much everything else from the start.

YES, I definitely hope so, with the amount of grinding I am doing. I wonder how many people saying no have bothered to do the relic quests.

I don't mind if they nerf the previous stages like they did with atma, but to remove the need to do it completely would be kind of a slap in the face, and I'm not sure I would bother to do any new relic quest after that. Why bother, if it's not going to carry over? There's always easier alternatives, I have my upgraded Shiva weapon, but am continuing with relic in the hope that it actually means something, and because I got to choose the stats. Just have the light grind and then the final stage to go.

If they make it useless/pointless, I will be extremely disappointed.

Also the excuse that if we don't discontinue them, people will never catch up. I've personally seen FC/LS members brand new to the game, get up to novus in less than 2 months. Not really that hard to catch up.

People being able to catch up to the current upgrade process isn't really the problem. It is people, whom start playing the game post expansion, being able to do content that 99% of the player base aren't doing. At that point, doing the fates and dungeons, not to mention the rest of the steps to the upgrades will become a monumental challenge for those players.

Not the MMO's i've played, took me 4 months to fully upgrade my artifact weapon in DAoC, that was back in 2005, I used it all the way untill I left 2 years ago because it was still relevant for endgame. Dunno why people have such an aversion to options, if there isn't a clear cut BiS, then people get angry.

Well that may be an oddity when it comes to things like this. The vast majority of the recent MMOs have followed this path. They have already set that precedent in this game with myth > solidery > poetics gear.

Certainly not against options. It just seems like the logical conclusion that they would start all players off on the same foot when the expansion comes out. It is the simplest of steps for them to worry about. Otherwise they will have to make a great deal of changes to the, then old, upgrade quests.

I have no doubt that the expansion will have a relic weapon for players in some form, however it does not seem likely they would develop that quest line in addition to making vast changes to the former line.

I would say have a new quest of whatever difficulty that gets you the base zodiac form, but with some slight handicap since you didn't raise it all the way from the beginning. Say, it comes with cooked-in stats and you don't get to set your own until a later point, or somehow give relic->zodiacs an extra five iLvl upgrade they can do ahead of the newer weapons.

I understand some people will be upset if they make the relic weapon we have now obsolete but its not that big of a deal. Yes you put alot of time into it, but at the end of the day, it was something that you decided you wanted. throughout this whole game we have issues where you put in an amount of time to progress or get gear only to find out its not needed a few months later. Its the nature of the beast. Yes maybe they should give something to players that did it, like a title or some minion or something, but in reality, if they were to introduce new relic, how many would still use the lower quality one? It happens. Its like working hard to afford HD LED Hi def tv years ago when they were super expensive, and now asking companies to compensate us because now that you can get one for couple hundred, we feel like we worked harder for ours so we should be compensated with a trade in or something.

Not really though, none of the other gear and weapons in the game have required as much time and energy as the relic. The whole POINT of relic is that is was presented as something that you could have grow and level up with you.

I really don't care that all the other gear gets quickly replaced because frankly it wasn't much effort, and only took time because of the weekly caps. Coil gear is more effort, but again that has always been known to have a shelf-life, that the next raid's gear would be more powerful.

Relic's whole thing is that it's legendary and can keep getting stronger.

Considering the lore around it I don't think they should make having done relic meaningless.

Or look at it like this, most things depreciate value over time due to improvements in design, technology, or functionality. Just because you spent x number of hrs doing this quest when it was popular and everyone was doing said quest around the same time doesnt mean you should punish new players, making them do everything you did to get to where you are with even less resources and abilities because there are way less people doing early relic content than even a year ago. So in other words, just get ready to start a new relic quest. it should be fum with the new jobs available. i cant wait

It would be silly to have the relics tossed in the garbage at 3.0, considering how they were always two steps behind tomestone weapons and coil weapons.

If the Zodiac weapons gave us something unique then I would say "definitely yes". But they don't. A lot of people like to compare the Relics in XIV with the Dynamis Relics in XI. They don't really compare. Dynamis (and the other weapons of the ilk) gave access to specific bonuses and weaponskills. Having those upgradeable post 75 was something that needed to happen. XIV's Zodiac/Relic weapons do not have those bonuses. In fact they are pretty damn generic. No job specific benefits/boons etc that make them anymore powerful than weapons that are merely drops in coil. All we get with the Zodiac weapons is a unique skin/glow. Something that we can continue to use at 60 and beyond simply by use of the Glamour system.

We do not need expansion crossing quest content. The Current Main scenario needs to split into a separete Heavensward scenario. The Relic Weapon chain needs to die and a Mythic weapon quest needs to start.

But the problem is that it took soo long to get relic where it is, you have to make it so new players can have the chance to get their relic. only way to do that in a feasible way is to start whole new relic quest line with this expansion. And for balance, you can't make original relic even on par or stronger than new relic or add something that lets you make new relic stronger with using former relic because new people wouldn't be able to get former relic. Ex. New relic has an option to make it stronger/change form/ etc. when turning in old relic at certain lvl. New player wants that, can't get it. Why? because he would have to do a relic quest that very few people are running anymore. No chimera fights, etc. He loses out. Or they could make new relic quest rehash old content to give newbies a chance, but then some players past that will complain. Best thing is to stop current one and start a new one.

ALREADY you can get to working on animus in only a few hours (original relic and atma are incredibly fast now). And there's plenty they can do to make novus and nexus easier, too.

You say no one would be running the dungeons/fights needed, but as long as they keep relic relevant, people WILL still be doing the content. Even now, there are people still working on ALL stages of relic.

Making relic irrelevant to Heavensward would be doing both the players and lore a disservice, I feel.

But the thing is that you don't have to do the relic. You could settle for other weapons that frankly look cooler than the relic weapons at this point. People that are doing the relic now are doing so for personal/vanity reasons. You don't need relic to advance and unfortunately with the expansion coming out, that content will no way near be run as much by players. Newbies are gonna have a hard time doing this relic quest come spring. People are still doing it now because its still semi relevant. It wont be relevant in spring. Hell I only have two relics, only one is past the atma stage. I would rather get primal weapons. fights are more fun and less monotonous and i think those weapons look better and are less time consuming, even with them nerfing the RNG for the relic. My point, its too much to do for something that is time consuming AT THIS STAGE in the games life.

They better start over cuz
- if they continue current relic post 3.0, the wep design will be so wtf SE who designed this wep or omg my eyes tey r melting from the glow.
- too many steps for outdated content catch up
- a wep for casuals will become 100% non casual now tht it "gates" ppl from starting new relic quest in 3.0

If they do keep it:
- expect major nerfs to each step of the old relic
- they will prob give an alternative for ppl to catch up via cash shop, or some kind of token trade in for a wep that will branch out into the new relic quest line.

Gl, lol i'm very sure they won't continue the "casual's" relic quest into 3.0. Cuz tht would turn off so many players tht don't have a zodiac wep lol
- its like i need a coil, ex primal, , tome or crafted wep cuz the casual relic is just too much work now.

Uh it took more than a year for ppl to progress their relics to where its at now.
Regardless of being gated by waiting for next upgrade patch.
With the rng and gil that requires to make a casual wep tht took more than a year to make is quite absurd for a casual wep.

Except that with current nerfs and how easy tomes are to get, getting to animus is a cake walk. I could care less if they nerf animus/novus/nexus/zodiac steps, as long as I don't have to toss my current relic on a retainer to start a new one. Which if they do toss out relics in 3.0, Myself and I'm sure many others won't even bother with whatever new "relic" they come out with.

Be nice to have comments in this thread associated with what type of relic the user actually owns so one can put their point of view in perspective. Lot of time, money and effort into upgrading relics and I personally doubt many who have done that would like to see all that thrown away and to have to start over. I know I wouldn't.

I own 1 Zodiac, 1 Nexus, 1 Novus, 1 Animus and 6 Zeneith's.

but like i said, you put the time and money in it bacause you wanted to, not because you needed to. As soon as they added certain primal weapons to the game, relic became obsolete. Most people continued because they already started. IDC how much they nerf it, it still takes very very long to lvl up a weapon that is obsolete as soon as you grab say a levi weapon or shiva, or hell, ramuh. And its still a grind. Like i said, most people dont want it to start again because they put too much time into it, but unfortunately, those weapons are not that great. There is no incentive to do relic if you havent started or gotten far in it because other weapons are better right now. People want others to go through what they went through just because. Im tired of hearing..Oh atma drops are easier and blah blah blah. Fighting a primal is easier than trying to do those stupid books. thats why they are going to start a new relic if they continue with such weapons.

I own only two. Only one I got past the Atma stage. Before they nerfed atma. Thats what turned me off from doing it. The grind was too much. Now yes i could go an do relics now. but for what? Do you get a badge for doing every relic quest? Do yo uget some special materia or lots of gil.....You only get the satisfaction of completing it. And then what? you use it for about 2-3 months, that form is obsolete, you have to upgrade it again, doing old content for weeks....its tedious. for a very very tiny reward or no reward at all. Thats what i mean. Right now, only people that have gotten pretty far in the relic quest continue...because you already put in the time and effort, but you don't have to. Its an elitist attitude to say you want everybody else to have to do the same because you did. especially when its not required to complete end game raids and such.

If by "majority", you mean the 10-15% of the entire FFXIV user base who frequents the forums then the response you'll most likely get is "yes" since people feel entitled to what they worked towards and that it should reflect to others their achievements. IMO "entitlement" is what causes people to think this game is P2W when it's not, it's just SE poorly implementing obvious cash-grabs through over-priced vanity add-ons (i.e. odin mount).

Personally, I think it should start a new quest entirely since people who played the original relic will always have that as glamour and proof of their dedication, like a badge that says to people in 3.0 "yeah I did all those grinds and got this awesome glowing weapon, so what?" Plus starting a new quest allows new players or those who haven't bothered/stopped the original relic quests to start fresh and have everyone on even footing.

Keeping that around just for that sole purpose is a bit wasteful. And if only those people doing the relic quest are doing that content, then queue times are going to be pretty high.

And before anyone starts with the whole "too lazy and such comments" i play this game for fun. It shouldn't feel like a job. doing current relic quest started feeling like i was punching in to work as soon as you got to the ATMA stage. Most people do not find that fun, especially when you had people putting in lots of time farming for random drop for a weapon that wasn't all that great. Im sorry, if they made the relic weapons worth the effort, then yes, keep them. But all these people crying about them getting rid of current relic, i want you to sell new players. Make a pitch right here on this forum. Convince the people why Relic is worth doing at this junction in the life of this game. What are the benefits? why should i care? What makes it better and worth the effort than other weapons that are easier to collect?

Not really. Any new players are going to be doing all the original dungeons anyway. SE have done a pretty good job of making all content stay fairly active. Relic is a good way to continue this.

As to the thread's original question:

- people who have completed relic will probably say yes
- people who have not will probably say no.

I think relic should definitely carry over IN SOME FORM. I mean, read the description, it's supposed to be LEGENDARY.

But "lol, screw legendary weapons, let's ignore them and make them meaningless."

So, it'll be the same with the weapon in Heavensward, if they create a new relicquest. People will be like "OH TOO MUCH RNG, TOO MUCH GRIND, TOO MUCH <insert reason>". They're supposed to be a timesink, something to keep you busy. There's no design that could please the 100% of the playerbase. I hardly hear complaints about this quest in the server, mostly in the forums...

Personally I hope they end the relic story as we move into Heavensward.

The relics played a big role in A Realm Reborn, but Heavensward should be the start of something new( hopefully something other than weapons.)

Well if you check that "2.5 Before the fall" topic we are getting first parts of mainscenario quests that leads for expansion and Zodiac questline will also continue, so it seems it might carry over to expansion aswell. Could think this step same as ilvl80 relic was back in 2.0 the non-zenith one and 2.51 is the zenith part.

The old relic/zodiac quest chain must end, but in future they can give something a little extra to zodiac weapons owners, such as augmentation items for further glamor purposes.
