What a useless post, this is actually my first post ever made on these forums.. Talk sbout garbage
The actual gear degradation is just fine. it makes a great death penalty.
However: there have been 3 points that would definately make this more convenient for everyone.
1: Place repair NPCs at camps. Dont drop the costs, just put them there.
2: A bonus places on the item when a crafter has repaired it would nice.
3: Allow items to be traded and sold(at least through bazaar) at less than 100%. I cant count the number of times ive wanted to loan a friend my shield and couldnt.
because i craft and am not limited in standing around like a tool waiting for somone to repair my gear and since these forums are full of nothing but 90% stupid ideas whats another one going to matter, quite frankly i have no issues with gear at 0% breaking, 2 years down the line when the game is full of so many gears and your trying to make gil but prices are so cheap its HQ or GTF and then the HQ starts dropping and droppin like in ffxi, i think it would keep a balance for crafts to constantly produce and repair gear.
suply and demand, if it took say 4 times longer to wear down but cost 2x as much thats not a bad thing, and if your retarded enough to let your gear get to 0% serves you right boom your gear is gone tuff shit.
tbh i dont think if you gave ppl gear which never wore down no death penalty and 1M gil just for loging in each day and free kraken club for 2 weeks playing people would still say it wasnt fair or i am being held back because i cant log in each day to get my 1M gil, i cant do this because i dont get my KC till next week etc...
I never found out why people have so many problems with gear. On selbina I just stand by repair npc and usually get repaired within 5 mins. Don't want to wait? Level your crafts up. If you have to repair your gear more then 1 time a day you need to find out what your doing wrong and stop dieing so much. I like the system simple because it adds more realism to it. if you are constantly getting hit your stuff should get broken. it always give crafters a use. Gil is so easy to make stop being so cheap and you will get things repaired faster.
You idiots never cease to amaze me. I will never understand why anyone would ever support having damaged gear, and I lol all the time when I read the word "death penalty." What a fucking joke.
I'm not sure what is so "lol" about gear degrading, it's a solid death penalty. Die several times in a row, your gear will be less useful. Carry a spare, level a craft, have a friend around that can fix it, or go back to town. These are all solutions to the short term weakness that is "gear damage." You're not suposse to die, that is your penalty.
Also, i dont understand why "death penalty" is a joke. You have to have something to discourage dying. It's an mmo, there arent any game over screens.
Once again this thread isn't about death penalty. I like that there is a death penalty in fact I wouldn't mind a harsher one tbh. Gear damage is a percentage hit upon death that same percentage just means bigger numbers when it's deducted from a larger pool of points.
Also having just a sum you need to pay for removing a weakened state from a medic at camps would be just as good of a death penalty if you really want to go there. Gear damage dp can still lead to endgame zerging when multiple people use suicide tactics and just switch between their lvl50 sets to bring down the hardest enemies. (If you really MUST go there)
Anyway it would be nice to be able to also BOOST gear protection since the design of it only focuses on the negative effects. Gear HQ repaired to over 100% could for example give you +3 DEF effect to reward you for having used high lvl repair material with a high level crafting ability.
Like somebody in this thread already said more goals are always better than fewer ones.
Mainly it would be great to be on the plus side of the negative wear effect when you really want to.
Death penalty IS a joke. I will never understand why people feel its necessary to have one. I could die a dozen times over in FFXI and not give a damn about the xp loss. The real penalty is wiping on a boss and wasting or losing claim on something. That's a more of a penalty than some stupid damage gear or xp loss. People who encourage stupid crap like damaged gear or some kind of death penalty need to step back and remind themselves that its a damn video game.
Not everyone enjoys crafting(especially with the boring mini game on ffxiv), but this game literally forces you to level multiple crafts to avoid the annoyance of shouting in town for repairs and waiting forever for someone to bother to help, or have the npc repair for a whopping 75%...
Gear being damaged is a retarded concept, and I will never understand why people like it. I guess some people forget that its a damn video game.
Nothing is being forced on anyone. That's actually the idea. Others are suppose to do it for you. The fact that noone realizes this is why the community is so terrible.
Maaaaaaaann...
is that hard to ask people for repairs BEFORE attending anything important?
Repair NPCs will ghetto-repair your gear. A DoH will use its skills at maximum to repair your equipment.
And even that said, 75% and 100%... it doesn't matter until you reach 35%, so you can survive with that Hot-fix.
Ask people to repair that gear of yours!
You're probably never very far away from someone that can repair your gear, however I bet most of us don't even bother looking for people to repair unless we have abolutely NOTHING else to do... which is never really the case for a crafter.
I'm done checking bazaars to find 1x Same grade dark matter rewards or 500 gil net from a grade 5 repair. It's a waste of my time. If you offer more than that, that's great, but you'll have to advertise that fact to get most of us to pay attention to you since going outside and killing marmots would probably net more money in loot and shards than sitting around looking for people to repair.
but but but
i should be able to do everything, without ever having to work for it
my rank 1 craft should be able to repair my level 5000 gear
my rank 50 archer should have every lancer move too
i should be able to solo 8 man content
i should have infinite hit points
they should just call me god cuz thats what i deserve and i demand it!
It's pretty Thevidis and Renshi didn't read anything in the short thread so I think replying to that would be a waste of everyone's time.
Enyyx thanks for the tip but that didn't work out so well either. I only tried shouting at few minute intervals my gear offer in Uldah (to which some players responded not to use shout for gil offers in return for repairs btw)
Then I went to Drybone and tried the same there for 30 mins.
Granted I possibly could shout for more than half an hour but I got the feeling that I'm bothering others by spamming the shout channel with "will pay for blacksmith and/or leathercraft gear repair for 20 000gil each!"-messages also and this is a big issue. I don't think it's realistic to assume I'm supposed to do this activity more than 30 mins. Honestly i think my server just might be too dead for any of this to work the way it's supposed to. I've tried to scan the forums to see which areas might be populated but nobody answers my craft- offer.
Am I offering too little gil? (Honest answer please)
Also I see what you're saying about the crafters being too busy with the grind. If they absolutely have to tie the DP to gear then at least let crafters get very good SP for fixing gear for others. It should be a lot more than they normally get from their usual leves.
Anyway my suggestion after this experiment seems even more valid than before. If I can only rarely come across a crafter then let me pay extra to them for fixing my gear over 100% because chances are it'll take a while before I get that opportunity again.
It just seems like the actual gameplay sections are often streamlined away but then the fiddly set-up phases are bogged down with this really hardcore design that takes a lot of time and I question the value of shout-time as any kind of gameplay. I'd much rather be doing or working on something to make up for the mistake that made me die in the first place. Actually I better just start levelling ALL the crafts if this is the way it's going to be =(
I kind of like the gear-damage system in FFXIV, I kind of wished they also had weight system to make it bit more harder lol I would be bitching my ass off but would of been interesting system. (wouldn't work with current FFXIV though so good thing it's not there lol + adding it now would kill remaining FFXIV players lol)
Only complain I got about gear damage, repairing gears is why the hell did they make it repairable with only dark matter!? unless all the sub-crafted items/parts will magically disappear in 1.19 with the crafting changes...
Oh! Sorry if I couldn't translate that Over there =)
Then if that's the case, you might offer 10 for 100% repair, or 20 for 200% repair. Thing is that it would be the same, only a time factor would change and at the end having two weapons would be the same thing.
We don't need this anyway, so it's a choice from the Dev team to take this into consideration or not, since solving the repair problem is like solving the car fuel problem.
I spend alot of time repairing gear. My blacksmith and leatherer are pretty low, but my armorer is rank 30 and can repair quite a bit. I would love to see an exp boost, but i dont think it's really a necessity. And people who are too cheap to ask for repair for more than 10 gil dont deserve to have their crap repaired.
At the very least, cover the price of the repair mat.
I just don't like how quickly armor gets damaged.. after an hour of play i'm down to 20%
There are events like Darkhold where the designers expect you to die over and over again until you figure out the fight and finally triumph over it. You can't even put an entire set of gear up for repair in your bazaar, which you will need to do after a bad night in the dungeon. The last time I had to do this it took 7+ hours to finally get everything fixed. I'd rather just take an SP loss hit so I didn't have to waste an entire day not being able to play.
My other options are: Pay 5-6 times the cost of the dark matter to the repair NPC for only 75% repair or, level up all of the crafts to 40 so I can repair my rank 50 gear. I find crafting so dull that I would rather quit the game than be forced to level even one of them up that high, let alone enough classes to repair an entire set of gear.
I'd like to see gear dmg removed its not needed its just an annoyance
I honestly would like to know what you think would be enough to have the repair shouts work? Like I said earlier I was even shouting for 20 000 gil repairs which should cover the cost shouldn't it?
I think the SP the crafters aren't making for repairing gear of others is a bigger issue than the money they want to be paid for it since gil is pretty worthless in this game. I've bought several new armor pieces (100%) multiple times because their price was lower than the repair cost (to 70%). Something about the balance of these things is not working on a low-pop server.
You shouldn't ever have to pay that much for the repair of a single item. In that case, your problem is the lack of crafters paying attention, and not the amount offered. Here are the NPC costs for Dark Matter, which should give you an idea of how much to offer:
Grade 1: 100 gil
Grade 2: 600 gil
Grade 3: 1500 gil
Grade 4: 2800 gil
Grade 5: 4500 gil
Yeah, I mean, it's great that crafters have such diversity, but there's still plenty for them to do. There is definitely far more for crafters to do in this game than other MMOs, if nothing else. That said, as I posted earlier (top of page 3), I wouldn't mind keeping crafter repairs around, so long as it maybe offers a sort of bonus to encourage crafting repairs, and gear can be repaired to 100% through other means.
This is kind of a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but still something I'd like to see improved eventually.
Exactly! its not at all needed please tell me what advantage there is to having gear dmg?
It doesnt add to any imersion or to the fun of the game micro management is cool if its management of tons of cool gear, but this one is just unnecessary. Having to constantly check if your sword is broken isnt at all fun.
All it does is make crafting a must if you dont wanna waste time searching for ppl to fix your ish, and I'm a firm believer that crafting should be a hobby in game and they need to tone it back alot 5-6 full classes devoted to crafting/collecting is dumb, especially since there is only 6 (generic ass) battle classes you actually play with.
FFXI's crafters where the riches mofo's in the game, and crafting in that game was optional completely because there were so many options that it never fell to "damn nothing else to do but craft leves" =/
FFXI made ppl want to craft, but XIV is trying to make it where ppl have to.
XIV already has the most extensive dedicated crafting system in any mmo, bordering on the lines of being a damn "crafting sim" rather then an mmo and to me i rather see that effort put elsewhere lets say.... battle classes for craps sake and gear variety ect.
