If the guild is there already, why not get it out the way?
I'd like to see RDM or NIN but I'm in no rush.
Neither RDM nor MSK are next in line. Both confirmed by name to be a low priority (particularly RDM between the two) in various interviews by Yoshi-P.
Thief/Ninja or some sort of stealthy/scout type class and/or job is what's expected next.
because it's easier to use the already existing assets to rebuild a city than start from nothing.
irrelevant. the guild building is already in the game, and there is a cutscene in 1.0 where you *almost* join the guild before they go NOPE and kick you out.
Oh look, a new thread providing a refreshing topic that has never been talked about before!
Exactly...no one plays a Class at 50 which means they need to develop the JOB that MSK will become. It's also true that their priorities aren't 100% in that direction right now. Also while it's true we only have 1 ranged DPS, unlike FFXI ranged damage is not a different type than melee so effectively we have 2 magic and 3 physical. This says we need a new magic class/job first. Now this can be accomplished with MSK using a modified version of FFXIs COR without the rolls but WITH the elemental shots in the form of the Gun Mage job.
This would honestly be the best way. As badly as I want Musketeer (three years!), having them release 3 or 4 classes with accompanying jobs simultaneously would be best.
It would also avoid a similar situation to what we had when 2.0 started, where everyone and their dog was an Arcanist and the ground was made of Carbuncles.
I don't remember him giving any priority over another when mentioning Musketeer. I don't recall Musketeer being mentioned with other possible Class and Job ideas. I remember him saying Musketeer does have priority because it does already exist, just needs to be finished, in one of his statements, and in a statement that made no mention of Musketeer, he said he'd like to see more diverse jobs, but those would come later due to more pressing matters.
More Classes and Jobs are the least on their list as far as I can tell, but never once do I remember them specifically saying that anything metaphorically mentioned (Thief, Dark Knight, and Ninja) had more priority than Musketeer. He never gave any priority to the other possible class types. Based on separate and out of context mentions surrounding class and Jobs, Musketeer is the only Class in memory that has been stated to have even a little bit of priority.
This doesn't mean that they'll do it first, but it is the only thing they've acknowledged to need priority. There haven't been any other serious discussions as far as new classes and jobs have been concerned by the developers.
Musketeer not being in Maelstrom is a huge miss on their part. Introducing a new Class with the new quest line would show more involvement with Limsa Lominsa since the Musketeers are part of Lominsa's naval fleet. The Yellow Jackets seem to be the head of the Musketeers as their Captain is one, while Merlwyb is possibly the Job class that extends from Musketeer. Story wise it would have been a perfect opportunity, but if they aren't then its a missed perfect opportunity that they'll just have to do without.
Since they want to add new Classes and Jobs to give Legacy Players more to do between expansions since they are the older players, I think they'll stick with the idea of releasing Classes and Jobs in patches before the first Expansion. Glamour by itself as well as the Master Craftsman Recipes does what adding a new Class would do, albeit for a shorter time, though it is possibly something needed more than new overall battle classes to balance out a few economy issues.
The vanity filler is to give us more to do as they work the kinks for the larger additions.
I also don't think he ignored the questions, I think our translators left them out because they appear so frequently. I think its more them not wanting to bother having to translate the same question over and over again. Please remember that our questions are screened before they are submitted so its not completely the developers fault our questions don't get answered. Our questions were not deemed worth asking because of how frequent, and possibly because people don't listen to the rules when they ask questions.
we should of had musketeer by now and CT was supposed to come out before BCoB, so yeah >< just cause its the plan dont mean it will come out that way.
but man would i love some new classes/jobs
Number parity has never been a good way to look at class and role distribution.
The issue is more where physical ranged DPS will fall in the long run. The precedent archer is setting is that you do less damage than a BLM or SMN to justify all attacks being usable on the move, but that picture gets muddled when you take into account ARC's job is BRD (I'm one of those who think BRD was fine at launch, but the devs are bent on making BRDs selling point utility). There's also the issue of the physical ranged DPS limit break (because a musketeer shouldn't be using a healer LB). On top of that, they'd need to design musketeer to be mechanically different from archer (even in FFXI there wasn't much of a difference between a RNG that used bows and a RNG that used guns). That's not even getting into lore for the musketeers, quest design for the class quests as well as what jobs they should get (my sig notwithstanding). There's quite a bit of work that would need to go into making musketeer possible. Most of it does have a "new expansion" feel to it instead of something that would be implemented with a content patch.
As far as being annoyed at the waiting...I should be on the same boat seeing that the closest thing to a class that I like is PLD. Healing makes me drowsy and long range nukes don't do much for me. I'm not into fist weapons, lances and axes. Except I'm not and still subscribed. I simply just wait for them to come up with something I want to play as. (like a functional melee red mage)
Xander, he said a scout class is his next priority and that musketeer would be in eventually. That much is known. It may be right after said scout class, but not before.
Here you go guys.

In what context? That was something I remember being said with the Dark Knight, which was after the interview/letter where he said Musketeer had priority due to it already being in the game. As far as memory serves, there has never been context relating Musketeer's priority with another class type. He also never said there was priority to the scout like classes, only that he wanted to implement them.
In terms to the specific post:
There was never a priority stated. He said New classes are coming. He felt there weren't enough Stealth Like Melee classes or enough Mages, both equal in priority based on how he chose to word it. Something they were looking into, but no specifics given. Definitely never said there was priority.Quote:

Q: Can you give us any information about possible new classes or jobs like thief, ninja, samurai, or musketeer?
A: We definitely want to add more classes in future patches. For melee classes, I believe scout-type classes are somewhat lacking. By this I mean classes that can move around stealthily and attack from behind or steal items from monsters. The lack of magic classes needs to be addressed as well. We've received requests for ninja and samurai, especially from overseas, but we can't give out any specifics yet. Rest assured that new classes are definitely coming.
Looking further to see other mentionings of Scout based classes and only find one other mentioning.
This was from a Live letter dating 11/11/11...so its fairly old and the "Caster" mentioned seems to be Arcanist, though the issue then that took higher priority than Thief Class was add more Mage. Mage is still out numbered by Physical classes, so the priority on more magic classes can still exist, pushing Scout like Thief class further down the list still. Also supposed theoretical confirmation THF -> NIN. They intended to make it like that, could still happen with the base jobs. GLD losing Daggers would hurt and at the same time...possibly won't hurt at all. Can't really imagine any PLD that uses Daggers over Swords.Quote:
Q: In 2.0, will head and face gear slots be separated so that players can equip a hat and glasses at the same time? Also, will back gear and dual wielding be available?
A: Regarding separating head and face gear slots, this may be a bit tricky due to memory restrictions. This is not in our plans for the release of version 2.0. However whether it is doable or not in the long term, it's a bit hard to confirm at the moment.
The problem with capes is deciding what quality to settle with. In a FINAL FANTASY world, both we and our players expect the highest quality in graphics. This means that if we do decide to implement capes, we have to make sure the animations are as smooth as possible. Honestly, implementing capes in that manner will be a very, very difficult task for an MMO. This might be a little technical, but if we create high quality animation using shape animation, the CPU will end up taking a hit. Even if we do decide to go with rods, who knows how many rods it will take to achieve our goal. If everyone can settle for a stiff board-like cape, then we can do it.
I have some good news regarding two-handers and dual-wielding. Regarding two-handers, we're currently discussing a system where a gladiator can swap between one- and two-handed swords depending on the situation. Regarding dual-wielding, we're discussing whether we want to implement a class that branches out from the gladiator, or implementing a stealthy scout-type class (e.g. thief) that can perform sneak attacks. If we decide to go with the latter, we may set the job as ninja. The only problem is that gladiators are currently able to equip daggers, but not many rely on them. What we might end up doing is making the dagger available only for the scout-type class and make it able to dual-wield daggers. We have been discussing additional classes, but looking at the current roster, there's a lack of casters. Therefore, we're going to prioritize implementing a new mage class before we implement anything else.
Likewise relevant Musketeer remarks are as follows:
This one is a bit wonky. He mentioned Thief and Ninja as well as another fan favorite Samurai, but right afterwards he says "but first we're looking to add the class that will be most interesting and effective from the perspective of battle balance" Then goes into detail about how they were working with ideas for the Musketeer. They seem to have thought more upon the idea of the Musketeer than the others with the remark he made. The Flexibility stated I do not believe we will see until all classes are given more weapon choices. I mean they can make it the same as CNJ and THM's Two handed/One handed weapons. Give different programmed animations for both. I don't believe we will ever have a true Dual-Wield function so the dual-wielding we will have will be just as PUG is, one weapon in the main hand and appearing in two hands on the players.Quote:
Q: When will you implement musketeer?
A: Well, we haven't really decided when. We’ve been talking a lot about samurai, ninja, ranger, and thief, etc. but first we're looking to add the class that will be most interesting and effective from the perspective of battle balance. We still don't know which one will be next.
For A Realm Reborn, we're revamping everything. As you can see here, armor and weapon slots will be separated to be on the left and right of the interface. In the case of musketeer, a double-barreled gun is a weapon that requires both hands, so it takes up two slots. But sometimes you might want to dual-wield, so we're making a more flexible system that lets players do this. Naturally, these changes will be introduced properly with major updates in future, so please rest assured.
So far, the only thing that shows real priority is more mage classes. They are practically always mentioned when "new classes" are mentioned.
It took almost an hour but I finally found the quote I was looking for!
In this one, and really its only relevant because it mentioned his personal feelings towards what he feels needs to be implemented.Quote:
GE- With ARR we’ll see Arcanist added with Summoner shortly after the game launches. Are there any other classes or jobs you’d like to see added? And will these be added in patches or expansions?
Yoshida- What I would like to see right?
First of all, we are planning a new race for an expansion pack. For the classes and jobs, we will introduce them through patches because all of the Legacy players have level 50 jobs anyway. When we introduce new classes and jobs we will probably increase the level cap at the same time.
About what I want to introduce- it’s more like what I think I have to introduce. Something related to guns because the (musketeer) guild in the game. Something related to that I think I have to introduce.
Also I do feel that scouting classes are lacking so I want to bring in Theif, Ninja and those that have to do with stealth. Also more casters like Blue Mage and Red Mage are something I would like to add.
Whatever the players want, I want too.
Gunner like class: Mandatory (I think I have to introduce)
Thief/Scout: Not high priority (lacking and so I want to bring in)
More Casters: even less priority (I would like to add.)
This is an older interview from 2012 I think. Its the only time I saw priority given to the "gunner" class in base wording. Doesn't necissarily mean that the priority is there, but the wording infers to priority. Its really the only time where priority hierarchy was given outside of Magic > Scout with the last one I found.
At this point, there is no priority for any type of classes. Taking the final bit from the last quote: "He wants, what ever we want." Depending on what's more vocal, it can show what's wanted more. More Vocal also doesn't mean positive as this thread and others show. There definitely isn't any real priority in adding new classes, they have shown that they are juggling various ideas. But from the constant flipping of wording on what they'd like to put forth first, you can tell there isn't any serious push for anything new like this. They'll focus on other content before adding more. The New Race has been shown to have more priority over a new class. Race is aesthetic only.
Meh I never expected them to mention anything about new classes quite yet since 2.X is only reaching its second update.
I'm guessing the only time Yoshi-P will mention any new class/job is if the new class/job is ready to be added into the game so they can keep any hype for a new class/job at a minimal of 1 month or less before release during a live letter since long term hypes tend to cause people to over exaggerate what the content is.
It's been said over and over that there will be no job/class until expansion. Why are you still surprised?
Edit: Yeah this wrong, please ignore :/
That has never been said in any official statement. More than once it has been said that a new Class/Job will be implemented before the first expansion. This is because of Legacy Players already having everything else maxed out and Yoshida wants to give Legacy Players more to do between content additions.
Even if they told us their entire plans for the rest of 2.0 and 3.0, what good would it do for us when we can't play it?
I'm just as excited for new content as anyone else, but I'm not tempted to know what I can't have. At best, it silences rumors. At worst, it brings on players flooding forums with, "NO! STAHP SE, U R DOIN IT WRONG", builds distrust in the community because the content is most likely still being worked on (thus subject to change; what was true yesterday may not be true today), and the whole inflate-deflate hype balloon that follows every game. And what fun is new content if the hype behind it is gone?
All is moot since they are very old interviews, and some not even relevant, as they are so old, it would have been internally re-evaluated behind closed doors.
Hinted in December13, Then more confirmation again in Jan14, and now March14 all but confirmed.
No cap raised till expansion, and considering jobs and caps go together, as mentioned so long ago. It's almost 90% certain no new jobs/classes till expansion.
They may have to change that priority if everyone suddenly gets to all-lvl50, and start crying foul, but realistically, their internal memo is probably drawing out a expansion timeline and comparing it with the player-base.
There is no reason to answer such a loaded question about patch 2.2 and 2.3, when it's almost all but certain, that it's pushed into expansion mode.
Their development timeline already seems to have branch enough they have divided the "content" at this point. It's realistically impossible to do jobs/classes without lvl caps, because you have a clusterfck of balance issues(How many primals do you have to re-test everytime you put a new job/class in?) that's compounded many times, when it's easier to do it all in conjunction.
Expansion will probably come with: Radical battle system class/job re-balancing with new level caps, races, monsters, equipment, etc, etc, etc. It's the only effective way to balance and test out everything, by doing it all at once.
Sorry.
You're all right, i was a bit tired and confused it with new abilities(this are the ones that have been said over and over to only come with expansion), probably because i link both together.
My bad.
Don't know if any of you realized this, but...
Our current job has their own similar counterpart in term of their roles. There's PLD/WAR, BLM/SMN, WHM/SCH, & DRG/MNK. Only BRD had no counterpart of it, and this is where musketeer should be.
Yoshida did say that, if it was entirely up to him and disergarding balancing reasons, he'd want to add Red Mage as soon as possible, to complete the old White Mage/Black Mage/Red Mage trio of Final Fantasy 1. But yeah, as much as RDM will probably be pushed ahead as soon as there'll be a need for a front line magic dps with healing/support abilities (lol, I know right?), there are other things to be taken care of before that.
Regardless, being RDM an early and sincere love of mine since the classic FFs, that statement made me shout HELL YEAH.
Agreed. I too, like to do quests/missions and still find some surprises out there. I'm hoping a class/job whatever will still show itself this coming patch. Yoshi&Team didn't even give us all the patch notes until the patch goes live. .dat farmers can't do their magic till then either.
Even these patch notes have some quest lines hidden/????. Whats the point of doing all of that?
There is indeed surprises in this 2.2 patch. Whether story, class, job, item, npc related.
This live letter was very uninformative this time round. Yes they showed some nice mounts and outfit videos. But its almost like the purposely didn't talk about any game mechanics fights or anything content related... ;) im kinda giddy. As its more exiting to release hidden things like class races through unknown patches than a expected Expansion.
prob getting my hopes up to high.
You saying this may me think about story&logic of progression.(still my opinion for theory)after this maelstrom story arc we will be slowly moving to Ishgard (which will have I believe red mage, drk knight maybe for classes/jobs) Truth be told maelstrom arc is the perfect time to get Musketeer out of the closet and into this game. Because after this story wise, it just wouldn't make sense, lore/story progression wise.
Sorry, this is totally off topic, but now I've got this stuck in my head now.. thanks.
Oh, Oh, Shawn.
I think i'm cute.

All I got to say is that you guys don't get what you want all the time stop just stop, because you will cause a ripple then people are gonna think well its kinda unfair that they got musketeer and we didn't get ninja or samurai or dark knight and maybe they need another job that goes with musketeer for the secondary abilities.
You can wait like everyone else, personally I feel you are pushing the dev team for your own personal wants and needs when their hands are full but you want them to drop what they are doing to put a job that could not have any skills made or animation made and he could of said stuff meaning for the future but you took it the wrong way, I feel like you are pushing him and hes busy trying to give content I say wait till expansion stop pushing him its not your game.
He never said that it would be its job. Read his post again. He's very clearly saying that each JOB has its counterpart. Paladin and Warrior, Blackmage and Summoner. By that logic, Bard should have whatever Musketeer's job will be.
The problem is Yoshi has said he wants two jobs per class now, so it would unbalance again.
Point is though, 1 by 1 classes/jobs have to come out. If some people get upset, who cares. Just means, getting a classes/jobs out into the game finally checks "that job" off the list, and the next class/job would be next. Releasing class/job every expansion is not very productive. as that's a 1.5 year wait give or take.
If it takes time then yes let it take time. As it should fit the lore/npc's of the game.
Yoshi&team are silly, if they miss this opportunity to release Musketeer, as the whole patch is centered around Limsa. The more I think about it, the more I think we might get a new class this patch.
...side note... Other classes/jobs that I see being hinted at, from this 2.2 update video Samurai( with Gilgamesh) and Thief/Ninja(new race npc) ... *my obsessed opinion/theory, lol*
They probably don't wanna talk about it because then the follow-up question/expectation is when, which they probably don't wanna touch for most things. I don't even know if Personal Housing is a for-sure thing yet for 2.3 =/ 'We want to monitor servers.' Yeah, ok.
Regardless, I'd be pretty disappointed if they didn't get Musketeer out by the end of summer.
It's always amazing to me how you guys can be so shortsighted sometimes when it comes to game development. Just because he's not answering questions, doesn't mean he does not care about the job or your concerns on the addition of new jobs. It may very well mean he simply can't talk about certain things until the timing is right. Even he as the producer has to answer to someone else and can't be 100% transparent on development.
Yoshi-P is't at any liberty to tell us about any potential new jobs, whatever they might be. Learn to have some patience.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, careful with that edge, kid! Might cut yourself!
Don't contradict yourself, please.
So, it should "fit the lore", but the demand is always for "the next hotfix" for those who keep whining about MSK. As if by magic, they'll create all skills, balance the job, make their weapons, etc.
So, it sounds like in your vision they should delay 2.2 just to add the damn MSK. It's hard for the MSK-enforcers to understand this, but it's NOT IMPLEMENTED YET. It will need time to code, design, test and audit the code. But no, needs to be like magic. Make devs work 24/7, right? Who cares, eh?
The same good it did us when they gave us teasers for Blue Mage, Dancer, Corsair and Scholar in FFXI long before we got to play it - It got us hyped as hell to want to buy the expansions/wait for the update.
Then again, that was to an actual FF MMORPG, nowadays I can understand it doing nothing since this battle system...would really take some working to get the unique kind of jobs even a 2001 PS2 MMORPG managed, since despite when they came out, the game's systems haven't had major revisions since 2002 to "allow" new jobs in any way.
Yet they still released a class promised shortly after 1.0's release (Arcanist) all the while redoing it into a pet class with two jobs. So no it's not exaggerating as you're still utilizing content that launched with 1.0 and added with 1.22 (Job system for example with the same jobs only a different battle system.) So we're still playing FFXIV that launched in 2010 on a significantly improved system..heck we still have quite a few dungeons that came out over XIV 1.x's life span that was redone...so it's hard to use the 'it shut down' situation when we got 1/2 classes in production during 1.0 for an update in the relaunch.
Point taken. just saying to cut 'em some slack what with reworking the game and all. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think more people wanted a Summoner type class/job more than anything else. (Summons/Eidolons/Espers/Aeons/Avatars/Guardian Forces are essential to a FF game.) Then again.. how long did 1.0 players wait for any new class any at all since launch? Prior to shut down.
