I really like the idea of setting your NEED before each raid. I'm pretty much perma tank for everything but would rather gear other jobs.

If they want players to play tanks, they need to make them fun and engaging plus offer more diversity...
Better solution though would have been to foresee this issue from the onset and design a system that wasn't so intensively dependent on the trinity...
I'd assume vanity helps when it finally comes. I at least leveled DRG and MNK simply because I liked their AF, while I'm doing PLD only because I think I should have a tank class available. I mean what do you want? Look ugly or cool when you are playing?
Easy solution: Increase party size (add 1-2 more dps for every party)
Harder solution: make tanks more engaging, enmity is so trivial that it makes tanking boring.. our other aspect 'mitigation' is offset by healers making our role very boring which is just do your standard halone or BB combo then a couple of flashes/overpower on multi targets and call it a day.. our oh shit buttons like holmgang / hallowed ground have animation delays and dont feel very responsive.. our dps is negligible and we dont really offer a lot of utility since most monsters cannot be stunned or silenced.. once a party wipes tanks get most of the blame (since we're on the spotlight) whereas dps dont get any blame since theres no built in dps meters in this game (you can suck as dps and get away with it easily but as a tank? nope, every error/mistake can be seen by anyone)
I love tanking so I dont mind having a shitty role since I've been playing tanks in most of the MMO's I played. But i cannot fault others if they dislike tanking.. I don't really think that mount incentive would help since people will just quit once they acquire the mount (and really, who would want these 'forced to play baddie tanks' with their party while leveling anyway?)
What kind of reasoning is that? Even in beta it was quite clear that most players don't enjoy the tanking gameplay. While adding a mount is all well and good I think it'll do little to make the gameplay of tanking any better.
Also how many mounts are they making?! As a lvl 50 war let me be the first to say that I'd prefer adjustments or skill changes to tank any day of the week over a lizard to sit on.
I know what would make this even better. Make it a Combo Achievement like "Armed to the Teeth", They could make it so players would have to do 30-50 runs of 5 different dungeons (or w/e) to complete the achievement? Cause if it was Free Choice on which dungeons people would spam the easiest one. Maybe they could do a mix 2-3 HM dungeons/Crystal Tower/ 1-2 different dungeons.
I thought I read/heard we are suppose to get one Mount for each class/job.
Tanking is difficult compared to DPS . Healing is quite hard too . But when I play my Bard I find it super easy compared to healer and tanking .
To fix DPS problems add more DPS slots . For example 5 man groups instead of 4 ( 3 dps ) etc
I'd do it for the mount, though I am really unhappy with the "MVP" system as is, I go in as tank (cus tank is needed) and no one votes, they just leave. _-_ What's the point of voting if no one does it?
Q: How do you know no one votes? Maybe they voted for person X.
A: Because they leave, as soon as boss dies, even before chest is popped. Because loot is crap.
Oh and, I leveled cnj for stoneskin.
The mount would most likely be random if you get it. It would most likely be like WoW's feature where you get a sack that has gil/gold and an item. (And that Item has a chance of being a mount. Like 2% chance.) It would make more tanks want to queue this way. So I see no reason why this would be nothing but a good addition to the game.
There are so many bad attitudes and experiences involved in being a Tank for a DF run, I don't join DF or DR at all any more - and I haven't even leveled to 50 yet. I only run dungeons with fellow FC members; with RL friends; and (one time) with someone who was apparently just going down the list of online players and sent me a Tell asking if I'd tank Cutter's Cry for his group.
A new mount... nope, not even close to being worth the stress of putting up with the average DF party.
I have two separate characters both with CNJ atleast at 34 and neither of which have the unicorn mount. Mostly because I think it looks incredibly dumb.
The problem with the shortage of tanks are seriously just the lack of tank classes paired with the utterly stupid rewards for low level duty finder. There is no incentive for either of my characters, both with level 50 paladins and warriors to go back and help random strangers through a random dungeon for 10 mythology and 100 philosophy. (200 philosophy? I don't remember exactly since philosophy is pretty worthless these days.)
You need to come out with a new class that can tank from 1-50 and/or provide decent rewards as an incentive to low level duty roulette.
To the post above, there are as many tank classes as there are healers.
It just comes down to the fact that tanking, while not difficult, amounts to something of a leadership role. You initiate, you set the pace. Most people in the world are not leaders. To lead is intimidating for many especially when others are quick to get on your case if you don't do something right. And if you do screw up everyone will know. When you're the tank all eyes are on you.
Not to say that incentives won't encourage people to try and get some people to stick with it. It will happen, but no amount of mounts or added tanking classes is going to change the fact that the responsibility of the tank role just doesn't mesh with most players.
Tanking is not difficult 3 button rotations with hitting cooldowns when you need them. Its much easier then dps I would say who have way more complex rotations.
A special mount as an incentive lol are they taking the piss ?
I want to command fear and respect and for the people to bow down before the mighty godly tank ... lol just kidding .
No what they really need to do is add 1 more DPS slot to 4 man groups making them 5 man groups .
Raids could become 10 man raids 2 extra DPS . The fights would go faster , less falling asleep and that 1 dps that sucks now can actually be useful .
Eh, I suppose there is a notion that responsibility lies with the tank, but frankly the responsibility lies with whoever is willing to pick it up.
If I'm in a df group as a dps and I see anyone struggling with their role, I offer to help. If I'm the only one experienced in a dungeon it doesn't matter what my role is, I'm willing to explain things. That's just me.
I have no problem being a tank, I just largely have no reason to do it for a bunch of people I don't know and don't have an interest in seeing succeed. That is what the incentives need to overcome; my ennui in regards to faceless strangers on the internet.
Or they just need to come out with a new tank class. That will get 34 more levels of me using low level dungeons and the low level duty roulette.
Or let me queue with a friend and let us both get the daily bonus. I could care less about the rewards, but I would absolutely help a friend get their bonus faster.
Probably because you done the fight enough as a tank that you're more comfortable with tanking it. The majority of tanks I've seen doing Garuda have a terrible time doing the fight compared to the dds.
There's a reason why dds make up an enormous percentage of the mmo population. It's a lot more relaxing and simple to play compared to support roles.
ppl expect tanks to know encounters perfectly
Try to tank garuda extrem w/o knowing how it works (spiny plume ,what add to taunt....where stand in tornados phase....)
now try garuda extreme as DPS or even healer
try to tank CT ! the most BORING thing ever....ok look at mee im an awesome tank........let me show u how powerfull im....touching this tower OVER AND OVER.....
Problem with CT is you don't need 6 tanks the most of the time you only ever need is 3 max, leaving the other 3 with pretty much nothing to do.
Really? Oh we will give them a mount! That will want to make people tank with the already crappy tanking system
Actually I think every Job should have a special mount. Why only WHM?
Pretty much, other roles you can sort of follow along while tank role you actually have to know the fight. When tanks don't know the fight, they look extremely silly and get called out and raged on quick.
Like I've posted on another thread..
Queued up as tank for Garuda and I think OT did something minor wrong (not too sure)
Blm: DERP TANK!
Blm: DERP TANK ALERT!
Blm:I shouda bet on a tank, misread that
Blm: Well whatever, I owe u 100g nao
Blm: Hold on one sec yall
Blm: Setting up my macro

Blm: <se.11>
Blm: Shout: DERP TANK ALERT!
<me> Guy in dl gear, no zenith weapon, talking smack and not doing enough dps (after failing to burn Sup in time)
What would help is having more classes that can be tanks, other MMO's I played have 4 different tanks. I think a tank like ninja or a knight or a viking.
I made a thread suggesting that SE add a new tank Class when they add Musketeer and a lot of people cried about it and turned it to other stuff. Viking would be a great tank cause it fits into the lore of FFXIV or at least to me it would when Ishgard opens it's gates. Someone said we could get Templar and branch it off of LNC sounds good. But then everyone cried about NIN being a Tank because it was meant to be a DPS in FFXI, Then they cried about SAM being a tank cause in FFXI that's what it was meant to be but It became a DPS. No winning with people.
A lot of people said they would play tank if it was DoM based and the only one I really see being DoM would be Mystic Knight and Rune Fencer But this game really doesn't have much Elemental based content for those to be effective.
I don't think having more jobs or classes would help. That would just be more jobs/classes people wouldn't play because of the level of concentration and knowledge that would still be imposed.
The way to get more people to play a Tank role, would be to subtly rework encounters so that one or two bad choices or mis-timed actions by the Tank, don't make for unrecoverable runs.
It would be nice if those occasional obvious/ludicrous screw-ups could become post-fight reasons for laughter and teasing "Man, what were you thinking?" events, not "TWELVE DAMN YOU TO THE SEVEN HELLS!" cues.
-Increase the bonus on Roulette (after the daily has been done) nothing wrong with additional Philo/Myth to be honest, it'll help with these terrible queue times
-Tank mount only usable on your tank character
-Give tanks their very own minion, only usable by tanks, make all minions usable during dungeons/raids
-Tweak some abilities to make them more enjoyable (no decent combo until 30 is pretty sad for Marauders) make Halone a level 20 ability, make Butchers Block a level 20 ability
-Buff Dungeon EXP a little more, I'm still seeing heaps of Tanks run Fates
-Double the commendation received for playing a tank (1 person commends you, you get 2 points)
Good effort. But most of this wont help.
- Higher Bonus don't need cause they are either going to do them daily or cap and not do any more for the week. Not just that but they already are the only class that gets the job bonus I haven't seen DPS or Healer Bonus in a long time.
- Job only mount isn't going to help we need tanks in dungeons, Not changing classes to run through zones or to AFK in MD.
- Unless they add buffs to Minions I don't want to see them in Raids/Dungeons already enough lag.
- Low level abilities aren't the Problem. Most complain about level 50 lack of abilities.
- Dungeon EXP is fine the problem is running out of Rested Bonus EXP. I just leveled WAR from 34-50 in 3 days and didn't touch a Fate.
- Giving Double the Commendations isn't going to be a good enough incentive for people to play tanks once they get to 500, Unless they add new items at say 3k.
We need something to get People who don't like to play as a tank a reason to do so. Level 16-49 content isn't the issue, its level 50 content where the shortage of tanks is. As I said Mounts aren't going to do it. They either need to change the party size or just rework Tanks overall play style. I personally don't have a issue playing either tank but I'm leaning toward WAR cause it just seems like they have more abilities.
So a tank is supposed to get to lvl 50 and serve Eorzea just to get a mount? Meow!
There is only one way to get a lot of people to play tank jobs. And that is by making them slightly OP. Everyone that has touched a MMORPG should know that people flock to a job that is slightly better/stronger then the rest.
A mount might get some people to level the job, but only a very small % will play it after they have gotten the mount.
