T5 on PS3

One way is NOT faster than the other. I cannot beat the GCD with a mouseover macro, or a controller. the GCD is a static delay that NEVER changes. No matter if I'm cycling through targets or not, I am so adept at the controller I am constantly fighting the GCD spamming my cure. Claiming that just because YOU can't do something, doesnt mean there aren't more experienced people out there, blowing you away.

As I said in my other post, I'm not saying that you being slightly slower leads to deaths. In fact, I often am sitting there waiting for the GCD to be done so I can cast another heal. TBH, the GCD has killed people I would have otherwise had healed, and I'm pretty sure that Benediction/Lustrate fails equally as often whether you're on a controller or a PC. My point was merely that there are limitations to using the controller/PS3 that a PC player isn't going to encounter. I also can't shake the persistent suspicion that the reason why the GCD is so damn slow is an attempt to "equalize" things between PC and PS3, so that PS3/controller users are not inordinately penalized.

I also didn't think Lustrate had a CD.

If you put all the players who take damage together on your party list, the delay caused by having to change targets is negligible. It only really matters when trying to do cross-alliance rezzes in CT (or when your DPS is taking unnecessary damage).

In other words, the difference is only very salient when the rest of your party is failing.

I think divebombs due to graphical latency is the biggest issue I have faced doing T5 on PS3. However, I've beaten it on PS3, so it's definitely possible. I have to be exiled to the hill, though, and I just announce if I was targeted, since the chance that I can dodge out of the "safe spot" is pretty low.

My static group has downed T5 multiple times. The other tank in my group plays on the PS3. In terms of hindrances in coil, the only problem that has really affected us is his lag sometimes (probably not the PS3) and he has some trouble avoiding divebombs. The real problem was the rendering of enemies in T4, but we just allow him to OT during that turn. Other than that, we've found a way around it and he does fine.

my fc is working on T5. The biggest issue is probably the servers. I play on PS3 and I've have not had any issues other than server side lag. That being said it also affects some of the people in my static, who are on PC, making them randomly dc or even crash. So no its not an issue with hardware but an issue with software. The PS4 version needs to get here asap but even then these people will still say that the PS4 load times are 0.0000032 seconds slower than the PC.

For PVE, Do not matter if you use controller vs KB/Mouse...

For PVP is another Story. KB/Mouse will be superior to a controller. Two players with equal skills the KB/Mouse guy will destroy the controller guy no matter what.

The players move a LOT during Pvp. only a Mouse will allow you aim your target really fast. The level speed and skills you need for PVP compared with PVE are two worlds separate.

Unless square enix make mobs, can move in circles, zigzag over your screen, or make mobs can run and dodge attacks.. Then KB/Mouse is not mandatory for PVE.

The only way i could say "No to ps3 players" in my party is.

If during "X" Battle the Frames per second drop until 10 - 15 frames on the PS3 and the game become unplayeable, then here is where i could say. Sorry buddies is nothing personal but if you are playing 10 FPS your reaction times will end killing you or Killing us.

Having full i90 gear does not make Coil bosses die without practice. Esp when it is ONE PERSON!! I am assuming by your elitist remark that you know their entire team config and actual skill levels of the team enough to be able to figure out that that one ps3 user is the only reason they cannot down turn 5.

Except for the fact that a controller player on PS3 who is also using a keyboard does not have to cycle through anything to target a party member.

If that player is the 5th person in my party list, F5 auto-targets that person. In my setup, my keyboard sits right on my lap. My hands holding my controller hover over my keyboard. I can pinky finger the F buttons without missing a beat or even dropping the controller, which IMO sounds faster than moving your mouse to the right person.

Depends on if you're a good healer or a bad healer. If my mouse is off in the Aether, then yeah, you'll be faster. The only advantage you might have is that moving and casting is likely easier for you. On the other hand, I've gotten pretty pro about being able to move while casting, and there are very few "instant" spells in the game that can be used.

This whole "ps3 users are dragging us down" is complete nonsense.. we have a PS3 tank in our Coil group and he's probably one of the better tanks I've seen throughout my entire experience in this game.

I have beat turn 5 using a controller, I think its better then using keyboard and mouse, because with a controller you can easily move around with the analog stick and hit your buttons at the same time something that isn't easy to do on a keyboard. but its all personal preference I guess.

The only issue I have in coil on PS3 is at the very start of turn 4 because the mobs don't load immediately and you're kind of just aoe'ing the air it looks like (but this can be avoided by having your group wait a few seconds before running in). Your attacks still hit anyway, it's just annoying. Also all the aoe spam puts stress on the ps3's drawing capabilities. It helps if you turn off effects though. Other than that I haven't seen any real issues with PS3 in coil. I usually play on PC and use a controller anyway, and the controller for this game is excellent. Idk how people can play with keyboard lol.

There's been recent tests over at BG that prove the DPS difference between a controller user and a KB + Mouse is negligible at best, if it's even there. Basically, if you missed a single cooldown on KB + Mouse you'd fall behind the controller user who doesn't, and never catch up. The whole line of KB + mouse being optimal is really just bias with regards to this game.

The controller support is very, very good in FFXIV, and it's only getting better.

Personally I'm on a PC and use a controller because I find movement and camera control way better with a controller. I also use a KB + Mouse all day at work and prefer not gaming with them when I can.

I've played on PS3 since Beta 3 and I've never felt inferior in terms of play ability compared to my PC counterparts. What platform you play on does not determine your skill, and people really need to stop using this as an excuse.

always excuses from people. how whould a PS3 stop you from playing the game?
100% the time its people who fail then need to say its something else making them fail.

i use a controller on the PC.

We have multiple PS3/controller players in our Coil party and they do absolutely fine.

You can assign the keyboard buttons to the xhotbar, or rather, assign the xhotbar buttons to the keyboard, go to System > Keybind > Controller, ta daaa!

Wow, this thread derailed a little. Didn't mean to start a pc vs ps3 holywar here. I know ps3 players have no problems clearing content in ARR, but what people said was that some particular skill of Twintania was causing trouble, apparently it's divebombs.

GCD is here to simply emulate a certain other MMO and the style of systems they went with (we didn't have GCD in 1.x and both were supported (KB/M and Gamepad)), almost no other MMO uses GCD and most support gamepads.

Ill say it again. Lustrate one target, heal another, pet heal a third. within a gcd (controller will do it slower and even milliseconds CAN matter).

Second. If your always waiting for your next GCD your doing it wrong. Timing the heals is very important to reduce overhealing and improve mana eff. For example.... holding a cast for a fraction of a GCD in order to heal immediately after a big hit (mountain buster, death sentence ect) can prevent deaths. If your just spamming on cooldown chasing GCDs your not performing optimally sorry. And within this switching targets FASTER via mouse over macroes can save lives when the GCD is held. Even when the GCD is not held... if you change your mind milliseconds before the next GCD... the target switching on a controller will cost you time, a MO will not.

Yes current content it is largely irrelevant because you can outgear and under perform and kill things, but on cutting edge content and non ideal group gear/comp (most people learning) every advantage helps.

PS3 player here. I have downed Twintania and I play a melee DPS job (DRG) and one other person in my raid group (BLM) is also a PS3 player. For weeks and weeks divebombs were hit-or-miss. If you're on PS3 and you're having issues with divebombs, it ain't PSN. It ain't your ISP. It's that stock HDD. Get a SSD and, trust me, your whole FFXIV life will improve.

The only role I really think PS3 would be a huge crutch to on T5 is healing. Short of that, though, get an SSD and be well.

Call me when there's content where multiple targets are being hit at once within <0.5 seconds and either you can instantly reach everyone or everyone dies, and a controller healer really can't deal with that, and then we talk. I might even switch to kb/m. The game is just not designed that way.

This. Everything is on a timer basically, literally, a timer. That is the nature of scripted fights. Splitting heals on 3 targets every single time means you're more than likely carrying another healer...
