Not everyone parties with only their linkshell. You know, some of us actually like taking advantage of the MMO aspect of a MMORPG....
i never stated i only partied with my ls. i'm sorry i have friends i talk to so i play with them mostly, but that does not mean that i do not party with others alot also. my statement about voice communication is drastically better than typing inside a chat box stands. if we are in a battle side by side i can promise you a voice message gets across to the other players faster than any speed you can type and them read.
if you are playing with multiple nationalities like the japanese groups that is different, but then you are better to discuss things before and after the battle so you can make the most use out of auto-translation. then you still have no need of talking inside of a battle besides calling a macro that uses auto-translation so everyone understands.
Where are you getting this delusion from that everyone in the game uses voice chat... call me old fashion but i don't mind typing rather than hearing 15 voices in a group yelling, like happened too frequently in WoW. Majority of players I come in contact with don't use voice chat, and i currently have no IRL (due to this game being crap right now) friends playing FF XIV so majority of people i party with are either LS, or randoms and my LS dose not even use voice chat.
Like i said earlier, what is the point of manually typing 1111 when you can have AA do that so you can focus on your actual tactical abilities and chat functions?
There is immersion and then there is tedious.
IMO? Your opinion doesn't matter, that's because it's not me. Had it been me who started this thread it would be instant awesome. Seeing how I approve of auto-attack means that this thread if full of fail, that's because my opinion outweighs ANYBODY else who has an opinion. My 1 gil is worth more than your 1 gil.
Providing SE doesn't focus as much on auto-attack as they did in FFXI, your "immersion" in the battle will remain. If you've ever played a game like WoW or its clones, you'd know auto-attack is hardly a factor in battle. Those battle rely much more heavily on abilities. If you have played WoW and have relied on auto-attack more than your abilities to fight your battles, then you're doing it wrong.
The player should always be engaged in the battle and doing meaningful things instead of arbitrary tasks. Hammering on a single button is an arbitrary task that takes very little skill. And hell, even if auto-attack is relied on as heavily as it is in FFXI, it's still a leap foward compared to the clunky mess we have now.
You know whats even funnier.... No one gonna talk in the parties anyway. You guys should play ffxi now insyead of thinking it still the same when cop was fresh. No one talks in parties, people just zerg everything, no one sets up SC anymore. Similar is happening in ffxiv. No one talks at all. Even in a few LS's i been in no body talks. The uis the most quiet mmo I've played. I'm getting to the point where if this silance continues, i much rather deal with erp'ers in WoW then play a silent mmo. I'm rerolling alot just to find a server that people actually talk in.
There so many bs complaints that the amtosphere is dragging the fun down faster then the how "bad" this game is. People are so worried about "efficiency" and "the best sp/hr" yet "not leveling too fast" (such an oxymoron) that people made the game unfun for themselves. I've beem exploring the game and there are alot of "party" locations around various maps and dungeons. just realise roaming was the way it was gonna be not camping.
can't believe people have comments like the game will play itself. all the game will be doing is your normal attacks while you manage all other abilities and timers. Something is seriously wrong with the game as it is now if you really think having to constantly go back to your normal attack every second or so some how makes it more strategic or action oriented. I never realized pressing 1 over and over again was so epic and amazing.
:)
that is actually true >.> i played ffxi from match 2004- feb 2011. i've been on 5 servers and in over 1000 parties both pug and LS based. People still just zerg for 6 hours then disband. The reason for no one using SC's is people after years found it was too tedious to set up. As for the communication or lack of. People didn't care, and just talked to their LS's. in leveling parties there was nothing to plan outside of where to camp. And even then choices became limited. Like people now a days just solo to 20 and party in qufim then just lvl sync till 32 then do east ron in the past then lvl sync that for a while then just go into abyssea till 90. Or just leech off of smn burn parties till 70 then do abyssea.
I've seen leaders try to communicate to party members who just ignored it. So they just stoped trying. This is nothing new in mmo. ppl just do not care enough. They think planing is a waste of time since no one is gonna follow it anyway.
This is the part of the bigger picture of what's wrong with the MMO genre right now. MMORPGs are not special little cookies - they SHOULD be held to the same standards as other genres. Sure, latency makes true real-time combat difficult, but you CAN make the combat system fun and dynamic - City of Heroes is a prime example of this. Zelda's combat system isn't too far fetched for a MMO, actually - DDO comes rather close to, actually (they use some timing tricks to make it seem less turn based than it actually is, but it works quite well).
its so funny how the main reason people want auto attack isn't for fun engaging combat. It's so they can chat. lmao.
it's kinda like going hunting with your rifle. you clean it, load it, cock it, aim it, and the trigger pulls itself. i guess by their line of thinking you managed to get lucky and get the crosshairs there for the split second it took the gun to shoot itself. if they did this for hunting it'd make everyone epic because they could always hit exactly what they were aiming at. sure it would make some people feel like they did something to help with the kill, but realistically they just allowed something else to do it for them.
Pressing 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
is only fun for the first 30 minutes or so, but leves and grind parties usually last 2.5-6 hours and nobody says anything because if they do, people will die. Think about driving for 2.5-6hours at a time every day or two with 8 people in your car and nobody ever says a word. Is it fun? Can you stop yourself from falling asleep? Don't you feel like you're being smothered and suffocated slowly that you just want to scream? So yeah, auto attack so people can chat is not a stupid idea because it lightens out the mood and makes the grind a little more fun.
Rather than that, I can't see a better fun facerolling the keyboard in other MMO games =)
No, thats not how I play, I play with a controller, so I don't press 1. But anyways, the point is, which you missed, it is very boring to go 2.5-6 hours every day with 8 people without saying a word, it makes the day to day grind much worse. Like you want to snap any minute now and start punching babies rage.
imo not having auto-attack in this game from the get go totally ruined the social aspect of the game for most. I really dont need people to hear my RL voice so they can ask me for my telephone # and personal info because im a chick and spamming 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 to attack is moronic. I would like to avoid gettin carple tunnel as long as possible.
AA is a basic feature that FFXIV did not have. People that are against it are perhaps into button smashing? In this case that button is 1. I'm sure spamming a single button in combat might work in other games but it doesn't do justice in FFXIV. The point of the matter is AA will allow better team work for this specific type of game play, especially when you level up you'll have many abilities, and spells to sort through the list. I'd be so happy I wont be needing a space reserve to spam the 1 button to attack. A basic feature that should be automatic.
It is mind blowing to me how people defend the current battle system that does not work effectively 100%
i think the only reason some defend it because they actually think that the few hits before stamina gets low and you have to wait for the next hit anyways (welcome autoattack) is dynamic and is fun and more challenging. This system is for zerg only.
8 ppl and you zerg everything. 3-4 hits X 8 ppl VS perhaps 1 hit from the mob. Its unbalanced and easy mode as hell.
Automode can fix that problem much easier and leaves room for proper communication.
Its fun how this stamina feature which wasnt ever fully developed or thought through is to be defended.
Speeding up the autoattack i think is one thing they wanna do anyways so i think the fights can finally get more interesting and more difficult.
The system as it is now is fun for me only solo or duo, perhaps sometime 4 people but as soon as it gets more the easy mode kicks in big time... So i hope it changes since the mindless 8 people leve grind or mob grinds are far from being fun. Duo atm is what i enjoy the most. But thats not why i play an mmo, i enjoyed the party aspect and meeting more people.
DoTs, debuffs, attack spells. Far more effective than mage weapon spam. The only time attack spam is useful is against lower level enemies.
However, even if it WERE more effective, why would you do it? All the effectiveness in the world is useless if it bores you to death.
We didn't need auto-attack we needed a more visceral combat system (faster, functional, intuitive). Now we are just going back in time. Let me grab a sandwich while I auto stab these crabs I'm farming... Bleh...
Attack spells? I'm sorry, you haven't actually fought anything yet. Let me lay this out for you: Cast Fire 2=deal around 50 dmg. Use Spirit dart=deal around 50-55dmg. You can use 3 spirit darts in the time it takes to cast 1 fire2. Unless in a BR, attack spells are useless. Ancient Magic is ALWAYS useless. DoTs are nice, yes, but only on NMs and when you have 3 mages in a NM party, you don't need to continuously cast DoTs so the 1111111spam will still happen. Debuffs? HA! The only useful debuff is paralyze and that's a THM spell. If you have a thm in the party, the CON will still be 1111111111111111.
My Fire2 ranges from 235-335 depending on the enemy I'm fighting, slightly more once I have the enemy debuffed. My standard attack does about 40-60 damage, so there's very little to be compared there, all before you account for triple/quadruple stacked DoTs on the enemy. Individual ticks for those all do damage roughly equivalent to the mage standard attack.
It will only be doing your normal attacks. That's it. You still can't just go afk. You still have to manage all your timers and use all abilities yourself. Not sure why having to go back to press your normal attack button every 1-3 seconds is considered any more fun by people. It down right turns your brain to mush during a long NM fight, where no matter what you are doing, you have to constantly go back to pressing 1/A/X, whatever you use to attack.
All auto attack does is normal attacks. Are we some how losing some kind of grand strategy that I am not aware of with auto attack? Is it really that more strategic and action packed having to press your attack button that often?
Now, I don't really think auto attack was the answer to what we needed, but it's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be, as if it will play the game for you or something. If the game doing your normal attacks for you leaves you with nothing to do yourself, then you are definitely doing it wrong in the first place.
edit; oh, and to the above poster. You are still pretty low as far as mages go. I believe you will probably see your spell damage drop of dramatically as you get higher in level and fight higher things. I know that I especially never see that stuff cast on NMs.
with the advent of auto attack and no stamina you are fundementally changing the strategies and tactics of fighting, many people played in a way that it made no difference, but trust me, its a big difference with what techniques are best/work and the overall playstyle of the game.
Im not saying they cant make an auto attack system work, im just saying it is not the same, and many strategies/skills/playstyles will have to change.
Hopefully it will be cool, but i guarantee it wont matter if they dont change the SP reward system, since most people will spend most of their time leveling up.
oh, I totally agree that strategies and play styles will have to change. I am a little nervous about that part actually. I consider myself pretty good with the jobs I have at 50. Once they change everything, I could very well have multiple 50 jobs that I don't know how to play and will have to learn how to use efficiently all over again. And considering I don't exp on them, just NM hunt, my chances to do that is slim normally.
auto attack is lazy, and boring, but needed in this tp style battle system.
The game shouldnt revolve around TP generation. Then autoattack wouldnt even matter. It doesnt even do anything good for the combat system at the moment besides automate tp generation. The amount of damage you gain from autoattack is so minimal.
Hopefully with this "combo" system which basically jsut sounds like a rotation set system, things will be more interesting.
But meh, combat has never been good in FFXI or FFXIV so I wont hold my breath. I will just stick to being a crafter lol until they destroy that aspect of the game too.
Hello,
As this thread is a bit older and we have introduced Auto Attack, I will be closing this thread as it can no longer offer any new feedback.
Thank you,
