I'm sure some bosses would be immune to it, as they were in FF11. But many monsters use paralyze and en-spells presently. They are already built into the game design.

If the only thing a move did was apply a debuff, it's useless on bosses that would be immune to said debuff. Even abilities like Shield Bash and Leg Sweep are useful on creatures immune to stun because of the damage of the attack itself.

Enspells are fairly useless as elemental spells because monsters don't really have any elemental weaknesses or resistances to capitalize on. If anything, they'd probably be similar to the PGL/MNK's "Fists of" abilities and provide some kind of appropriately themed buff based on the element.

I agree. If the boss is immune to it, then it would be useless.

It would still be a useful spell generally though. But I'm not against giving it an added effect.

I don't see why lightning cant give a small percentage of stun/paralyze. It can be <6s

The only thing I hope they don't do is another SMN/SCH scenario.
An automatic lvl50 class for leveling one is kind of wobbly but more annoying than that is the shared stats thing.

Highly Likely: many votes for Mammalian Demi-Beastmen solely because Viera was used as an EXAMPLE. People's eyes probably dropped down when they saw that V... I like to think that the numbers there would drop up to 5% if they didn't list Viera as an example. I know most the people I talked to in v1 (ie, like 20-40) said they'd rather see Mixed Heritage over Viera.

BUT! More for the topic at hand, non-XI RDM needed! Or just go Tactics and skip RDM if the only other choice is make it a little do-nothing like XI.

Padjal isn't gonna be playable...ever. Yoshi already said they are a rare race in the lore, so he won't make them playable because instead of 100 living in Eorzea, there will be thousands. Doesn't fit the lore.

As far as RDM goes, the strength that it brings in single player games is a huge weakness in an MMO setting. It's very likely that they're going to go the route of the Druid in WoW and allow the RDM to do melee, dps casting and healing but they have to shift into a stance of sorts.

The whole Paralyze and En-spell discussion is all fine and dandy but people aren't going to bring a job to a raid based on if they have Paralyze or not, it's going to come down to whether or not they do competitive damage or healing compared to the other classes that specialize.

The problem with this is that Druid can do all those things because of the specs available to it, allowing it to fulfill multiple roles. That doesn't work with this class/job system where each class/job gets a single role and that's it. Thus, if RDM is locked into a single role, does it become a tank, healer, or DD? DD seems to fit at least better than Tank and Healer because RDM aren't known for their super heavy armor and they can do more than just cast healing spells (and I'm sure a lot of people would be upset of RDM was, once again, stuck in the back-line as it was in XI).

I would love to see red-mage as a tank type class
Red Mage: I see this based on Gladiator/Black Mage/Monk... Astral/Umbral would last for 30s
30-- Astral Flames : single target damage (enhanced enmity based on astral fire stacks), adds 1 stack astral fire
35-- Umbral patch : burst area damage (enhanced damage based on umbral ice stacks.. NO enmity boost)
40-- Astra/Umbra-Spikes : consumes astral/umbral charges to enhance defense (damage-spikes, or damage shield)
45-- En-Astra/Umbra : consumes astral/umbral charges to enhance attacks (extra damage, or MP)
50-- Faith of the Void : Grants 2 additional Astra/Umbral stacks of whatever element you currently have charged (1min cooldown)

They could do a stance position so that while they have all spells available to them, they'd perform better in specific stances. So, for example, they could go into a melee stance which would reduce their magical abilities but make them viable for melee, or have a caster dps stance that would make their heals probably as effective as Physick on a BLM or SMN.

Duty Finder would have to be updated to allow for them to choose which Role they prefer to play but I don't see that as being an issue.

I would think it would be melee, caster dps and Healer as the available choices

Well the Red Mage would probably have haste etc, act as a buff/debuff mage. Since Lv49 mobs cast Haste, so the spell is in the game :d

I'm referring to posts here about making Ninjas based on Gladiators and giving them shields, or weird concepts thrown out for Red Mages to make them Tanks ... Why do these classes *need* to be Tanks?

I can agree with Samurai being Tanks, Especially as Samurai in general are about Honor (Much like a Paladin), and their fighting style involves evading/parrying attacks made against them. But Ninja? I really can't think of a good way to spin a Ninja in a protective tanky role.

I agree. On a separate note, it'd be awesome if Dark Knight was a hp-drain-based light-mitigation off-tank role. Perhaps geomancer could be a mitigation-based mage tank with earth spells!

Dancer as an agility tank would also be awsum :D

The Dark Knight as a draintank could be interesting, But the amount healed would often go to Overheal anyways, much like our existing Warriors.
Dancers wouldn't make sense in a Tank role. You wouldn't be wearing heavy armor, and you'd be relying purely on RNG to avoid getting creamed in one shot by saaaay Mountain Buster. The same issue the WAR currently has on Titan, no effective way to reduce that massive shot.
The concept of a Magetank sounds fun on paper, but I've never seen one, in any MMO, that pulls it off properly and i don't think XIV will be the one to manage that lol.

Look at wow brewmaster monk's tank or just their tank mechanics in general

WoW monk tank has trait(stagger) that causes 20% damage taken to happen over 10 seconds.
They have a ranged aoe taunt that doesn't require a target .

WoW Tanks have quite a variety in abilties to make them unique. FFXIV new classes can be unique too.

Our current tanks have RNG mechanics too. Block and parry.

A self-healing tank steps on the toes of WAR, which already does self-healing, and as fun as an evasion tank might sound, the current issues with WAR being "inferior" to PLDs (and the resulting huge buffs to WAR's midigation) show that dodge-tanking is probably not gonna work.

Having more tanks is not a bad thing, though one hopes that the new tanks are all unique in their own way.

As for the request of Ninjas being tanks A) I've never heard people ask for Ninjas to be built out of Gladiator, because that mades no damned sense, but B) Ninjas were forced into the tanking role in FFXI due to two things: 1) Utsusemi was fucking broken, giving the Ninja a guaranteed dodge for every "shadow" you had and could be kept up indefinitely if you had the recast speed for it and 2) the only other viable tank at the time of Ninja's release was Paladin, and the players really needed another tank. Ninja was originally supposed to be a melee DD and only in the last few years did SE finally give up and agree to make it a tank.

Samurai makes WAY more sense as a tank than Ninja does, though the whole evasion/parry thing still has issues because of the whole situation with WARs and the up-in-arms call to increase their passive mitigation that caused the huge WAR buffs in 2.1.

Lorewise, Brewmasters have Stagger because they get blind freaking drunk. And mechanically, it's a Block by any other name. Something *all* the Tanks have. They have unique names, but the tanks are mechanically identical.

on page 3, there was a guy who made a post about RDM and Ninja being Tank, when i read it initially, i didnt see the RDM part. Went back to get the quote and facepalmed, lol. Realized he was referring to the RDM with a shield, not the NIN

I honestly feel rdm needs to be skipped in this game, although it was my main in XI. In this game whm already has black magic, disciples of war and magic have a strong line down the middle so giving the sword DoW class a Mage job makes no sense... Who would get this job? Rdm is known for 3 things, swords, spells blm and whm have, and speed casting. All these already exist and are impossible to mix in this structure. Even if they added a "red Mage" it would be far from what it has been

RDM could easily be a melee/magic DPS with a few heals for flavor.

30GLD/15THM + WHM or ACN skills. Change the GLD combos to boost your spells to set up attack->attack->attack -> spell cast type combos (think self weapon chains). Make their casts based off STR in some way (a STR -> INT Cleric stance?). Double cast and you're most of the way there.

Also, I think lvl cap raise and second jobs for all classes need to be added before new classes/race. A dd job for gla (mystic knight?), Templar for lancer, time Mage for thm, hunter or ranger for arc, oracle for con. Pup for h2h. Beast master for mrd. Save DRK for GS class and THF for knife class.

I would actually be really okay if DRK came out of GLD. SE just needs to take daggers away from GLD and give them to whatever class gives access to the THF. Also, if anything else comes out of CNJ, it needs to be Geomancer. It just makes too much sense for it to be anything else.

Padjal aren't a race. According to lore these are children born to typical Gridanian Hyur that the Elementals have decided to bless. They do not age past a certain point and act as translators between the Elementals and Gridanians.

Likely we'll either get one of the pre-existing beastmen or a form of viera maybe even pure blood Garleans who decided to break away from the empire.

On the Red Mage front I personally want to see a caster tank, I think it would be interesting because its not really done all that often and I really don't see the need for yet another tank that follows the same pattern as Paladin/ Warrior. I mean if someone wanted to play a heavy armored tank.. well its there.

As for why Ninja or even Thief could have a proper tanking role the conceit of the heavy armored tank is a holdover from D&D but in D&D the tanking classes were a wall that had to be gotten behind to get ot the squishier types. This is not how MMOs do it. a Tank in an MMO holds agro by baiting and survives it. Go watch the Hobbit. Watch Bilbo Tank.

Thief/Rogue/assassin. Is a classic job cant miss! in a RPG or MMRPG. I cant believe this wonderfull game dont have Thief Class until now.

The problem with this Class is really dificult balance for PvP or for PvE. The players usually dont understand a Thief never will do the same damage of a "Heavy DPS".

Thief Could work better as a DPS - Buffer. Like Corsair in FFXI. Probably this is the reason for Yoshi-P avoided make an Assassin class with the launch the game.

Another jobs i could love in this game are. Dark Knight, Samurai, Blue mage and Red mage.

AND.........

WARRIOR OR MARAUDER IN DPS STANCE, ALLOWING THEY SEEK AS DPS ROLE. Like Warrior in TERA.

Problem with that concept is that Dark Knight is originally a DD type Job with tank like stats.

Dark Knight was originally designed to perform DD as a character and focused more on using its own HP to power his Damage skills. The only reason why Dark knight had such High Defense and HP was to prevent the Dark Knight from killing himself due to the amount of HP he would constantly drain when the Dark knight goes all out DD on a enemy. Not very good Job to have as a tank (if yoshi-p follows this concept) since Dark Knight specialize in DD by sacrificing his HP.
