Seeing problems for old servers at ARR release?

See that just doesn't make sense. The old servers aren't compatible with the new client, that's one of the main points about the remake... all new everything.

My guess is there will be a whole new list of servers some designated for 1.0 players and some designated for new players all divided up by region and we'll pick which server our old characters are placed on.

Apologies in advance if this is confusing:

SE seems to be planning to open up servers for existing (version 1) characters in all 3 regions, as well as allowing enough room for all version 1 players to return and reactivate their characters. In other words, there could be more ARR servers for version 1 characters than there were in version 1.

SE has mentioned they would allow each character one transfer to one of these new "existing character" servers at launch. If you don't choose a server, your character will transfer to a default server, to avoid splitting up your version 1 server's community.

I think this because people may want to transfer their existing characters to their region. Also maybe to deal with all the inactive characters on each server (people who quit and never came back), who will probably reactivate to try their ARR free month. (Remember there was a 2-to-1 server merge last year, and all those inactive characters are still around.)

I hope that made some sense, to someone, somewhere. :)

I'm afraid I can only infer the point you're trying to make with this, and it's still off-base. I'm assuming what you're arguing is,

"Because plate armor sold in 1.0 at 100k, people are going to continue selling it at 100k regardless of the global 1/10th redenomination,"

to which I would respond,

"Chances are pretty slim that many people would do this, and the few that try will learn quickly that their goods aren't selling. The reason for this is because of the very same global 1/10th redenomination of all existing in-game currency, causing every player trying to sell a good will do so based on that good's average worth based on the adjusted economy (economy being the money people actually have)."

In other words, your argument is based on conjecture. It would be like saying that in 1.0, one or two people try price-gouging an item while the other two-dozen exact same items are still selling for a reasonable price. Who's going to be making the sales in this scenario: the gougers or the majority with reasonable prices?

Mmmkay, that's neither here nor there, because as I said, this setup will also exist in ARR's pre-existing servers where new players aren't locked out from jumping in. Please stop arguing points that are irrelevant.

Two types of servers we're talking about here (if there are additional types, I don't know about them):
OLD 1.0 SERVERS: 1.0 characters stay (and can transfer amongst themselves), 2.0 characters welcome
NEW 2.0 SERVERS: 1.0 characters prohibited, 2.0 characters only

I should hope that the new servers are powerful enough to deal with at least 3x the characters that the 1.0 2010 servers could, on account of better hardware and software being in use.

That's conjecture on my part, but I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption given what we've been told so far.

The new servers can handle more players per zone better then 1.0. That was the point in alpha and beta and yoshi-p said they fix most of the issue.

Also to the rest of this topic i don't think they going to use the old names like Sargatanas,Ridill and so on. Because we all know some world would be turn to JP,EU or NA servers. If your world would became a JP most EU,NA be mad that there world is now in Japan and blah blah blah. So i think they just going to give them new names and be done with it. It's the fastest and simple way to fix that issue. The only world we wont be allow to pick is level 1 starting one but we still can make a char and log on to that if we like.

a server is software that controls everything and serves the client. the hardware is one big interconnected mesh of shared power. not sure if they use VM's but i pertty sure they do to run whatever is on there data center.

the only thing thats going to be the same is the name of the server.

This is FALSE. Yoshi never said this.

You WILL be able to transfer off your old world if you want- There will be BOTH servers for everyone that you can transfer to, AND "Fresh start" servers that you can only create new characters on.

This ^.

They will also add more "old" servers if they need to to compensate for all the old characters coming back to try 2.0. They won't just congest us tightly into the x amount of servers that were available to us back in 1.23 (unless the 2.0 servers can handle that many players).

All they are restricting is us old players moving to "fresh start" servers. That is all.

Edit: went on for so long I forgot I'd quoted someone. Yes, it's there to keep 1.0 players from disrupting the natural growth of new economies by spontaneously flooding the markets with items an gil obtained in 1.0, oblivious to the true value of either.

For instance, Ash Logs might be much easier to obtain in ARR than in 1.0, but I wouldn't know how to calibrate that if I didn't obtain in the new system, so any guess at a supply rate is unfounded. On top of that, we don't know how useful Ash will be compared to other lumbers, making any guess at demand unfounded. Basically the new value of any given item is completely unknown, and there will be a typhoon of 99stacked items like this simultaneously and spontaneously introduced to the world at launch, and the resulting gil storm will be fierce.

I think the original topic, however, is that a lot of the 1.0 servers will be occupied by 1.0's inactive players. Unfortunately there's no way to get around this, because anyone with a 1.0 account needs to be able to access the game or it wouldn't be fair. I just hope we don't wind up with empty-ish servers because they're reserving 60% of the slots for people who aren't coming back. Or worse, for cancelled RMT accounts. We all know how they loved to make tons of accounts >.<
