Whether the majority like/dislike DRK is a different discussion entirely, but looking at other discussions suggests there's a lot of other people who also acknowledge the lack of identity. There's many people who don't like DRK but love the class fantasy, me included. They just don't speak out. I think it's more of the DRK playerbase is split between people who like it and people who don't like it, which isn't a good thing in itself.
Thing is, DRK is a tank. I don't think they'd respond by releasing a DPS with no similar mechanics aside from Death's Design being Sole Survivor. Only similar thing is aesthetic.Quote:

Living Shadow just being Scourge with a 2 min CD and a Blood Cost is shit.
Oblation being arguably worse then Rampart is shit.
Shadowbringer being Dark Passenger is shit.
That's a lot of shit to clean up.
And then there's the fact we gave away most of our utility to the other tanks, parry was scuffed, Power Slash among other skills completely removed.
The removal of Blood Price and Dark Arts I loathe entirely. Not to mention Vanilla DRKs such as myself highly preferred the clunky but fast and engaging reactive Tank playstyle that Heavensward offered instead of this slow poor man's Warrior 15 second special DRK they want to throw out at every given opportunity.
Reaper may as well be FF11 DRK but damn amazing. It's no small wonder DRKs are eyeballing Arcane Crest if they have played FF11 and see what it can offer a party as opposed to TBN. And it's primarily because the other tanks are frontloaded with self-sustain and DRK has nothing. And they want to know why a DPS has better sustain potential then they do.
Only time DRK in XIV has decent sustain is in PvP. Fantastic.
But if DRK is ever looked at *properly* I'll be all for it until then if I play a Tank spec it'll be Gunbreaker. -

However, RPR's existence does absolutely nothing for most of the people who loved the pre-5.0 iterations of XIV's DRK. It doesn't share any mechanics (you can kinda reach to say that Death's Design is like Sole Survivor, but not really) and is completely different gameplay-wise, even when you ignore the role difference - which is a pretty damn big difference in itself. The DRK we miss was fast paced, reactive and required constant attention to your resource(es), meanwhile RPR is the lowest apm melee in the game, with very little weaving and a rather simple resource. There is nothing wrong with that, it has its own identity and many people enjoy it, but it is not a replacement for XIV's DRK.
Likewise, while I finally do enjoy GNB in its 6.0 iteration, weaving aside it's closer to filling the hole left by the 4.1 WAR in its playstyle, than to being a substitute for DRK. Honestly there is nothing that feels even remotely close to that lost job, regardless of role and that really sucks because a lot of people loved it. -
