With the confirmation that this new melee job is going to share a similar place as Dragoon, it's a melee job with maiming gearset. This would make Ran'jit's outfit change a lot of sense - he essentially pulled something akin to Dragoon's Blood of the Dragon.
Now this is a bit of a wild speculation, but based on some ARR dialogue, Coultenet Dailebaure (scion) also studied and saw common points between ninjutsu mudras and arcane geometries. More importantly, he fled to Radz-at-Han at some point to avoid capture at Mor Dhona when escaping the Crystal Braves. Seeing as how we're going to Radz-at-Han in 6.0, there might be some relation to the new melee job and the fighting style Ran'jit used if it turns out that the new job's storyline plot revolves around the new 6.0 locations eventually. This is also built on the speculation that Radz-At-Han is where we're going to get Island Sanctuary update with raising animals and making a farm, leading into some unique combat style where farmers developed a new fighting technique with a scythe. This is because scythes were originally an agricultural tool for mowing grass or reaping crops - which falls inline with the Island Sanctuary update.
