People quit on the team because they don't have faith on the team. They don't have faith on the team because they see something flawed in the team but why quit instead of trying to fix it? Have some of you ever think about that? I personally believe that it is because players have spread this notion that criticizing and using numbers to point things out is harassment. People just seem to have thin skin in this game. I have done contents where I gave short and concise advise/orders in a flat tone (but not rude) to cut down on time spent typing and people get offended by it.
My FC's play time tend to end just as I start going into the middle of my day so if I want to keep playing, I have to play 'alone'. I'm already in FCOB and I would love to go back to coil1 and 2 through df to collect more gear for my side classes and obtain lights for my relics but every time I enter I get players who are just not prepared for it. The ones bad at mechanics tend to be defensive and argumentative, the ones bad at dps are easily seen through the blatant enmity difference (stuff like quelling can only cut out so much enmity) and I just can't do anything about it. Why risk getting reported for talking to these people even if I'm confident that the gm won't see that I'm in the wrong? Hell, why deal with these people at all? I just stay out of it. Hell, my fc is practically a bunch of hermits to the population of eorzea.
My personal believe is that if people are so defensive about their play style, it will just drive away the decent players from the df and lower the df player's chance at success. Between facing criticism and dealing with demanding players but clearing more content and being ignorant and not 'harassed' yet not clearing anything, I'd prefer the former. I wonder if that 'bliss' you get from the latter is actually even worth it considering you dont get to experience more of the game.
The thing is if the next story becomes wrapped around with needing coil as a pre-requisite this could be a reason to not have the story mode option.
But then it becomes a problem of how many requirements are you going to hold players against at seeing the end?
Especially with the in-flux with new players on the expansion, and believe me there is always a new in-flux for the first few weeks.
- But don't get me wrong I agree with your post. I totally see it being thrown on the back-burner.
Here's waiting for the expansion.
Sigh you know what your right I apologize.............. So how is that star wars mmo doing by the way..........
(gives more on story with to easy content kills an mmo people mmos are all ways a delicate entity that's all ways on the fence one side is story other content if it focuses on one more than the other it falls and shatters.)
I know from my post I sound like a dick from saying so many bads. But I do sit for hours, and hours with people. I have multiple of paints of crappy drawings of where people ought to be standing for certain fights.
It's when you get into a group and people don't want to listen. You offer advice and they get defensive. People want to do it their way, and when it doesn't work after dying a million times. and you agreed to die this way to meet the "peace" - its tiring. I have always been a person to be a "team" player. I try to tell new people what to do for new fights. When you get into coil, there's a certain responsibility you expect. It's the end, and you want to see that end. But to other people in df they are there for other reasons. Most of them - to troll you or to just complain.
I say so many bads. as a way to relief myself. I sit in so many, trying to teach, trying to help, only to get no where.
In DF there isn't a way to build bonds over that minute of wiping. You have a static for that. We have an hour of trolls or an hour of people who don't care. Sometimes there is people who do, but generally out weighed by people who don't.
I have been like 10% at t8 in a df grp before, so it's not all bads.
But generally its mostly bads.
edit:
In response to post above me, I think swtor is doing good, They just added a new thing and I believe they aren't f2p anymore. But I haven't picked it up in awhile.
here it is: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain...-not-too-free/
Since it's a completely different story line I don't think we are going to have this problem at all. It made sense that Coil 2 would require coil 1 completion and coil 3 required coil 2 completion since it was a coherent story line that progressed through the coils. Alexander is a whole new place. There isn't any reason to make Alex require FCOB completion unless they just want to be cruel about it.
First Second and Final will not be needed for the expansion story or the new end game content this had been made clear more than once by the devs you'll be getting your hard mode story for Alexander but you'll be needing the gear from the hard mode to live in the extream. If you want the story so much watch on you tube
I have watched the story on youtube.
Are you happy? I have done the thing all of you people complain about in this thread.
I still would like a story mode. I want to see it on my computer, as the you-tube one I watched was blipping in and out of the voice.
I'm sorry if you can't understand what I'm getting at.
How is it... a... raid... if you are soloing it? Is this your first MMO or something?
Having more ways to enjoy something isnt a bad thing.....some people may just be short sighted. The best part of many games are the side missions and solo parts of the game(s) A solo mission mode coil could be harder then normal mode. Giving more players a reson to try coil might get them to join raid teams. As it stands now, there almost no reason to join any raid team. Its Called DF. This is just my idea. We already know we'll see more "modes" in the near future. Also, I know from the past its nearly impossible to get players to help with raids or ex primals on my server. It took me 3 hours to get a team for T5. I was helping out new members to my FC. The OLD coils may need a Solo/small team mode in the near future. Since "SOME" players never help out. Just saying....
ps: Yes, this is my First and LAST MMO. Why, mainly because of the way many players think and act the like (the 3rd Riiii)
I think WE have a generational problem here........peace out.
The raids before Final Coil are easier than ever and PUG groups are easily taking them out. You need a story mode why again? Its like "Hey SE, I don't feel like playing your game, so just give me the story line here, then I will complain until I get a story mode for the next thing." Cut scenes are a reward in themselves. Work for them, earn them, enjoy them. Can't beat it or find time for a group? Well, too bad, you are playing an MMO.
This is a good example of undeserving people seeking entitlement.
Why don't you all sit and wait? Old raids are nerfed at every patch, just wait next one and problem solved.
Most likely T5's last part as twisters and dreads will be nerfed to the point of let able anyone end duty facerolling any mechanics.
Limit Break Radio had a fairly lengthy discussion on this very topic
http://limitbreakradio.com/audio/xiv...st12_part2.mp3
Coil story should be a hunt reward. 1000 seals/turn.
Ok, some nomenclature for you:
-Wikipedia Article on Raids (Gaming)Quote:
A raid is a type of mission in a video game in which a number of people attempt to defeat a boss monster or consecutive series of bosses. The term raid itself stems from the military definition of a sudden attack and/or seizure of some objective.[1] This type of objective is most common in MMORPGs, and usually but not necessarily occurs within an Instance dungeon.
There is no such thing as a "solo raid". It's like saying a single multiplayer game. No one arguing with you said people should be barred from Coil, or that people shouldn't help out. On the contrary a lot of raiders help others because that means there is a bigger pool of players to raid with. However we don't want to see content nerfed (and is the main argument), otherwise you are going to have players who can barely do the basic mechanics, mechanics they should have learned IN THE PREVIOUS COIL. If you can beat T5, you can beat T6-T8, if you can beat T6-T8, you can beat T9. If you can beat T9 you can pretty much beat anything (or so I heard). All this with practice of course. If you don't want to practice, if you don't want to put the effort in, then welp raiding isn't for you. That is ok, there is tons of other content out there for you to enjoy.
If your issue is about difficulty in joining a DF raid, then start or join a static. Heck, are you in a FC? Get a bunch of FC mates together and start raiding. This is how my static was created, it's just a bunch of FC members who wanted to raid and got together. What do you even mean by "As it stands now, there almost no reason to join any raid team. Its Called DF."? That's backwards logic since that is the primary way to complete coil! If this was the case, you wouldn't be complaining it takes 3h to start a Coil DF!
Generational problem indeed.
These are some really good points. Content dying out is already a huge problem and releasing content stillborn is something to be absolutely wary of.
Another thing that's not good about giving players easy skips is that they never learn basic things on easier encounters but get access to newer, more complex encounters and get completely walled.
Getting to T9 nowadays is really easy but T9 itself is actually quite a competency check.
Ok, some nomenclature for you:
-Wikipedia Article on Raids (Gaming)
Still missing the REAL point here. You'll never get it.
My standing stament is :The old Raids/Coils MAY become unplayble due to lack of interst lack or willness by
Vets to help out. Why not have a solo/small team mode?? That
lets the player(s) EARN the RIGHT to view a recap of the EVENTS that relate to the now OLD/unneed/unwanted first and second coil. Nothing handed out nothing being taken away from you. If you cant
understand this, then goodbye. I'll not talk on this anymore. Have a good life Magis.
"Players like yourself DRIVE other Players AWAY and kill off games before their time."
"Happy SE is Shutting down the Servers TODAY"
There is always interest from someone somewhere and as I said, get like minded people together or ask help from your FC. They are already given the ability to earn the right. You act like they don't. Can someone on Ultros chime in on how the PF looks there, and how active T5/2nd Coil runs are? On Excalibur you still see people setting up runs for the old coils all the time.
Wut? So beyond the hilarious... quotes? You said this is your first MMO, what would you know of "kill off games before their time"? This argument has been going on since the dawn of MMOs and many have risen and many have fallen since then. I don't think that has much bearing on the success of MMOs. FFXI had tons of elitism yet it last years. WoW has... well it's WoW and we know how that game is. EVE has trolling/piracy/scammers and it's allowed and has 1m players. Also, I'm deeply saddened you would be happy that SE would shut down the servers, because someone didn't agree with you. That's a bit selfish, isn't it? Luckily that doesn't seem likely, especially with a new expansion coming around.
So tell me, what defines a "player like myself"?
Or not, well toodles /wave!
Magis , If you dont change the old raids/fights at all, you'll be shutting out ALL the new players joining coming with the expansion. I dont think
many players will buy this game knowing that half of the game is DEAD
and they'll never be able to try most of the fights. Even I wouldnt buy a game like that, and I think many players wil make the same choice.
The current raids won't even be a requirement to run the expansion content.
That will be mostly your fault if you do not have friends. Also, you have the Duty Finder to try previous Coils, which even right now, besides T5 and 9, you can face roll and beat with little to no resistance. In WoW, which has like 9+ years of outdated content, people are still doing old content all the way back in it's vanilla days to earn achievements and gear for glamour. There are always shouts for them, and always people with their own reason going in. You underestimate the community.
This still dosn't chage the FACT that some VETS never help out and Q for old Coil unless it for light farming. Even now the old raids are dead.
Guys, Please enjoy your self-made Dying Game. "Just remeber, I tried to help, you wouldn't let me"
Thanks Anneliese, but that not really the point.
I support this. After reading through this thread I will say this.
Why are people mad over this idea?
No loot, no achievements, no progression PERIOD.
Just cutscenes.
This isn't even a casual vs hardcore content thing. Us casuals are NOT trying to get a free ride. We just want story.
But I do agree. SE would have to spend time retuning the content.
I say this:
Offer a quest that awards all the cutscenes.
We talk to some NPCs, and get a "Echo Crystal".
It lets us watch All the cutscenes from the innroom.
Boom. Problem solved. No Raid is even touched.
No loot, no exp, no echo buff, nothing.
Everyone is happy.
And do tell me how it's not the point? Relevant item level gear will be accessible to new players by other means. The only reason newer players have to do T5 and T9 is to obtain relevant item level gear or to unlock the next set of raids so they can catch up with the current content. None of that will be an issue in Heavensward as they stated that our current coil will not be tied to the new raid. It's a completely different story, and the normal mode (which is meant to be as difficult as post-nerf second coil that you can honestly clear reliably in DF aside from T9) will serve as the story mode raid that this thread is asking for.
Which vets are you referring to? Surely not the raiders? People keep saying they're evil and egoistic so surely you can't even BEGIN to think of expecting the raiders to help right? So the non raider veterans perhaps? Surely they'll help. They're all such nice angels with such strong max ilvl gears! So don't worry! The non raider veterans will help the non raider newbies! You have nothing to worry! They will easily tackle everything together like they're nothing!
All I know is that both second coil and extreme primals are a waste of time because of the high frequency of rage quitting or Vote to Abandon popping up. I didn't even bother trying to do the new Odin trial or let alone Titan extreme because I have no reason to believe that it will accomplish anything other than frustration.
And speaking of Coil, the fact that the Dreadwyrm armor and accessories from Final Coil turns are not exceptionally more powerful than Demon equipment or Ironwork Magitek armor makes me further question the high difficulty of the raid.
How does watching it from within the game engine differ from watching it on Youtube then? Like now you are just arguing about nothing. We have this day and age an easy medium to share videos and cutscenes, this isn't 2004 with people watching the Chains of Pomathia missions from Allakhazam with terrible compression (even though people still did it back then). The story is also part and parcel of the total reward. It's the same how if you don't beat a boss in a single-player FF game, you don't learn what happens next. Well, except you do if you watch it online. Yet you want to get access to that without even doing a single thing, let alone beating something. How freaking entitled are you? Do you ask developers to show all the cutscenes of single players games right when you launch it as well?
I used to queue for first coil in DF pretty often, but all I kept getting where players who couldnt, or wouldnt understand english. Or wouldn't take any notice whatsoever of any advice given while dieing to the same mistake over and over while blaming everyone else before rage quitting. And becuase of those the ones who were willing to learn gave up also so 90% of the time they just fell apart because of the above reasons.
So I switched to helping parties in PF instead, think it was any different than DF? lolski. Had players who had no clue and no intention of even trying to find one joining hoping for a carry with zero effort or care. Or players expecting a one-shot in a learning party and after a wipe, quit.
Thre gets a point when you just say forget it, it aint worth the hassle of trying to help people whos ego is too big to admit to themselves that they need help and blithely continue blaming their mistakes on anyone else except where it belongs, themselves.
Ego is a insurmountable wall to self progression, in every aspect, RL included.
So pretty much the only things I DF are roulettes, not much can go wrong there as they are easy. Anything which takes coordiantion? I stick with FC and static for that. I don't play to be stressed by stupidity, laziness or egocentrics.
OP here, on a different account for various reasons irrelevant to the point I'll make.
First, I'm really surprised. You know, this post I made is from October 2014, and to see it being necro'ed was quite a surprise. Even more considering that all in all, it resumed into this :
http://s11.postimg.org/8ol1mojs3/stillmoving.jpg
So to make a few things clear,
=> Story mode raid is already coming. Alexander will have 2 difficulties : "easy" one which will be nerfed + echo difficulty (don't be brain-dead to clear) and "difficult" one said to be on par with savage difficulty, requiring easy mode rewards to clear AND giving better loot.
Whether that was decided thanks to all the posts about an eased option for everyone to enjoy the story or not (maybe a copy of WoW's LFR raid, I don't know) is not important. It's coming. We can only wonder if Coil will get an eased treatment too or if they'll decide to nerf everything and add savage mode for T1-5 and T10-13 at the same time.
=> SE already implemented an option for people to get carried through coil with no loot. The decreasing reward system. It's being abused quite a bit by run sellers actually but can't help it, the customers are here and they're happy to fulfill the supply :p
Anyway, this can be used as a way to get the clear all the way up if you have good enough friends who do not mind to carry you one day (it takes about an hour to do it as I've been told, but they must be able to clear it with 7 people only, which can be tricky for most people). The option is here as a band aid and it's fine until real decisions are taken about what to do with Coil imo.
Now I've read quickly through the new conversation and I'd just say one thing :
this is false. The coil provides the explanation about what happened in Carteneau at the end of 1.0 after Nael's demise. It's an important part (I'd even say, essential) of the transition between 1.0 and 2.0. It would be like going into 3.0 suddenly, killing dragons but with 2.1 story. Why dragons ? Why Ishgard ? No clue. Just as we had no clue why the world was all fine 5 years only after being ravaged, nor why did Bahamut disappeared, etc...
You don't see the connection because you tried to tie it with 2.0 story, while it was in fact the missing piece of the 1.0 => 2.0 story.
Now that I've said what I had to say, I wish this thread could sink again. It is not relevant anymore, and has been debated enough already. All that you might say now has already been said in the 600ish answers before you.
Thank you.
There's no good reason to be against this for content over a year old. Telling people it's already too easy isn't any help to someone who wants this feature because it clearly -isn't- easy enough for them. It doesn't diminish your internet dragon killing accomplishments to let someone have access to cutscenes no one else cares about anymore.
Why should vets have to teach any random player that expects to be taught? When in many cases they do not want to be taught anyways yet expect "vets" to go back and carry them through content. How do you think vets learnt? How do you think they got to the point to be able to clear hardest content? By players teaching them? No, we didn't.
Do you think vets should pay the same and then be expected to teach others? Very few will buy and pay subs for an MMO under the concept that they pay to be a teaching b*tch to anyone else. We pay and play for the same reasons, to play the game. There are NUMEROUS guides out there from players who are willing to teach yet lazy players will not use them, complaints about being asked to read a guide and/or watch a video made by someone who went that extra mileto create them. No, they prefer to go in blind under the expectations that everyone else in that party will write them a guide in party chat for their sole benefit.
I'm willing to give advice, I'm willing to help, but heres the thing, they have to be willing to help themselves too. By utilizing the resources that are freely and easily available. See too many times someone new in hard content saying it's their first time, which is fine, but second thing they say is "What do I do?". I just facepalm. So they won't make a tiny effort to read a guide yet expect someone to type out a guide during the duty for them to read? Or they don't even say anything when it's their first time and cause wipes anyways.
There's players who don't even read the toolltip description of their abilities amount of BRDs that refused to play foe requim because they believe "it lowers mu DPS". Whereas taking 10 seconds to read the tooltip would show that it doesn't!
Or best yet, going in blind with English selected with zero understanding of the language.
Thanks! We put a lot of thought in to the discussion.
By the way if there's anyone who thought our conversation was too one sided is always welcome to call in and express their opinions on the show.
Details about the show and how you can get involved can be found at http://limitbreakradio.com. Our next live show is March 1st and we'd love to field some calls on this topic.
All the salty raiders in this thread not wanting to share their precious raids because it's their last resort to retain their shallow pride.
