Mate, stop being delusional, it's not the forum. I've got dozens of friends that play FF14. The vast *majority* of their opinion has been that the story is legitimately bad, and this has never happened beforehand. HW received a bit of criticism, Stormblood received a lot more, SHB almost nothing and Endawlker just a bit. And again, not just my friend group. Look in multiple communities, look in steam reviews, compare these threads to what came beforehand. The story's reception has been decidedly mixed and you literally cannot ignore that as just "muh forums being negative :("

Similarly on the Strike thing - I actualy think it's a bit of a nothingburger on the grand scheme of things, but healers *are* generally very mixed on the lack of shakeups for healers. Once more, I've seen tons of people I know actually dropping healer whatsoever. Not because "muh strike", but because it's boring.

4chan is very critical of the story too, although I'm not sure whether they're actually mad at the story or mad at this "Sweet Baby" thing I keep seeing.

Here's the thing about people who say only the official forums are critical: they want to gaslight you into believing you are in an echo chamber. When really if you go on all kinds of different discussion hubs like I do you can clearly tell that it's a lie. The reception to this expansion is at best mixed right now. Once Metacritic goes live we'll see even more criticism.

Another thing is that a lot of critical posts on /r/ffxiv are sitting on 0 votes from early on. Which means they are being downvoted from the get go. Naturally to stifle discussion that would be read as critical. Endwalker was atrocious for this. I'm not as hoodwinked over that expansion as others and reddit users were massively succesful in scrubbing all productive discussion when that released. Just positivity and rainbows all the way. In someway, DT receiving a humbling every where is quite liberating for my feelings on how anyone critical of EW were treated on the subreddit. :)

This is a perfect distillation of why, this has been such a frustrating experience for me.

I haven't even really gotten started on yhe story yet.
I haven't said anything about the expansion being good or bad, or about the validity of the ctitism.

I made comments about a couple people's obvious, seething hatred of a fictional cat, and their utter contempt for people who disagree with them.

Then I get told I'm delusional because someone else brought up expac heat, and I thought it was mostly forum drama (specifically the seething hatred of a fictional cat) and cited another thing that the forum is taking more seriously than the general ff14 playing public does at large, because "lots of people don't like the story and find healer boring to play" despite the fact that I never defended either thing.

Then you come along and talk about gaslighting. And nearly every single person in this thread, has consistently put words in my mouth or build a broader straw man about what I said.

It's fucking *weird* and a real distillation about everything I've been saying.

This will be the last post I make on this thread. I feel like I pushed this more off topic than I intended and honestly, I'm not adding to the conversation anymore. But I have frequented many forums about games, and none have done this, exactly.

It's less about the validity of any paticular opinion, just how wildly defensive the regulars seem to get.

Well I don't want to go down the rabbit hole too much. But you have certain organizations and businesses trying to push the infection into Japan right now.

Example, right now you have certain groups with BRIDGE affiliations creating a school for teaching aspiring Anime creators how to appeal to Western society.

Here's how it actually goes.

Krile and her parents finally meet (it's complicated) and they're having trouble breaking the ice, so Wuk Lamat suggests to go get treats (we are at an amusement park, so it's perfectly appropriate) to give them some time alone, which is 100% the sensible thing to do. And after that, we get to hear Krile's parents' memories anyway.

So yeah, some people are engaging in pure revisionism. Either they skipped the cutscenes and they're bullsh*tting, or they're intentionally lying. That's pretty disgraceful.

Indeed, representation isn't important - mainly because "representation" could take many forms, but for some reason people feel only "represented" when only superficial characteristics are involved (sex, gender, skin colour, race etc.) rather than ideals, behaviours, morality and the like.

Representation is irrelevant. Good writing is what's important - and more often than not, the gaming industry as a whole is prioritising the former and forgetting about the latter, hoping that since a character is representing a minority they are also immune to criticism.

If I had just met my parents for the first time in 20 years I'd absolutely have things to say and ask them. Graha having to go and scarf down ice cream in front of them in order to make them giggle, only for the scene to FADE TO BLACK BEFORE THEY EVEN START TALKING shows just how infantile and uncreative this writing has become.

Zoraal Ja goes to the golden city and is gifted a deus ex machina sci-fi army to attack Tuliyollal with because of the deep and complex motive of "is evil".

According to him that was the peak of fiction and anyone that didn't enjoy it obviously is "distorting reality" to not enjoy the MSQ.

I made 2 posts that were not responses to me.
The first, on page 41. And the second on page 52, where someone said that anyone who likes wuk is either stupid or sexually aroused by her. Which is patently rediculous.


Most everyone else is a response to people putting words in my mouth. Or defending the weirdo who said some weird shit. With *ONE* exception Who just seemed to wanted to bring up Wuk has a lot of heat on her, and thats its probably for a reason, WHich is fair.

Shoot, even now, we have 3 people, all who don't seem to like dawntrail, talking past each other because they can't agree on the right way to dislike dawntrail.

If you're referring to me and Remilia, we're both discussing our problems with the story while Abriael, a Dawntrail enjoyer, accuses us of "distorting reality" and lying about what happens/our opinions.

Sorry you're being ridiculed for liking Wuk Lamat. This is a forum and we should all be allowed to voice our opinions without being dismissed and insulted.

Wuk Lamat is a good idea but nothing more. Her thinking, her growth, her fears and so forth are not shown, not even explained - despite DT beeingh the "tell and dont show xpac".
We know almost nothing of her and what very little we do know has no connections emotional or lore wise. I dont hate her for the same reason i dont like her : i have no connection to her at all. She is there to "win without effort or journey". Wuk Lamat is a "Red Shirt" with plotarmor.

She is the embodiment of instant gratification.

All other charcters, this includes us, except Erenvill and Krile for a small part are tools to give the player information dumps - a storytelling sin. All charcters can be cut out, even we are not there. We are watching, as if this is Netflix and we have no sway over what is happening. We do not teach or mentor her.

Also this whole story has plotholes big enough to fit a planet. Also her Eng VA is a misscast and in contrast her Jap VA is absolute amazing. To make it clear the eng VA is a good VA but not for this role also the writing did not help at all.

I'm just so tired of every, single, fucking time we have to split up as a group or do individual tasks, it's always me and Wuk Lamat.

What if everytime you split up in the previous MSQ, it was ALWAYS with Alphinaud, or Urianger, or Y'Shtola, or anyone else. Sure, those characters are nice, but it'd get old QUICK, doubly so for a whole goddamn expansion.

Yes and no.

We work well with scions, we all fill in eachothers weaknesses.

If we're with Alphinaud, he's the brains, we're the brawn.

If we're with Estinien we're subconciously competing with eachother, same with Alisae, there's a rivalry of sorts that keeps pushing us to do better.

Wuk Lamat is.... well... uhm... She's smart--- no, her brother has already been called the clever one.

She's stron--.. no she gets bodied at every chance she gets apart from that one time where she was receiving plot armor allowing her to LB spam.

Something to point out, not necessarily pointed at Wuk Lamat alone, but there are a lot of instances where lore/rules is ignored or retconned?
A couple of examples: Aether? Do not fight eachother? Alphi is the only healer? Linkpearl are affected by a solar storm i guess, Final days?
Something personal: Wuk is a WAR ? If so: HOW THE KUPO YOU ARE SO DAMN WEAK?

We work well with scions, we all fill in eachothers weaknesses.

If we're with Alphinaud, he's the brains, we're the brawn.

If we're with Estinien we're subconciously competing with eachother, same with Alisae, there's a rivalry of sorts that keeps pushing us to do better.

Wuk Lamat is.... well... uhm... She's smart--- no, her brother has already been called the clever one.

She's stron--.. no she gets bodied at every chance she gets apart from that one time where she was receiving plot armor allowing her to LB spam.

''But her character development!!'' .. What fucking development? She cares about her people? that basic human instinct to care? what a novel concept, a leader who has to care for her people, doubly so in trying times. My god, what a novel concept, that's brilliant, best writing ever, 10/10.

Oh, no. Trust me, I intensely dislike Wuk as a character anyway. But the situation would be at least a bit better if she wasn't forced on you nonstop. My point is, if even with well-written characters it'd get old, then with not-so-well written characters...

Yeah it would.

It's just become such a meme at this point whenever the group does anything, I'm at the level 96 Quests, the story has picked up but whenever it comes to a situation we split up.. I'm muttering under my breathe ''Here it comes, any second, I wonder who I'll get paired with!'' knowing full well it's Wuk Lamat, it's honestly making me extremely annoyed now, just let me be with other members of the group, please.
