Not just that, but reporting ppl for playing a dungeon to it's fullest and what it was designed for... some ppl ey
Right? I mean, it's always kind of annoying when an LB is wasted (unless it's a very specific situation; tank lb is usually a waste, for example) but in this case, what Selli did was 100% in line with what the community considers "right", as far as I know.
if anything, healers and/or ranged dps and tanks get yelled at for using it, but a melee DPS? :0
Yeah I haven't seen them either since 2.0..xD
Back when ARR was released, that fight took a lot longer and was fairly annoying to do, although it was never "hard" in any way.
Although "phases" is kind of an exxageration. It's just; first you have him just normally attack the tank (and nowadays we just burn him down before he switches to additional mechanics), after some time he throws fire puddles at random players which hurt quite a bit and limit your room to evade the next part in which he charges up cannons that will shoot very spacey AoEs at you.
I remember how lots of people died to those cannons back then :)
I don't see why not. We're dating. She's not physically on my account, so it's not account sharing. I'm doing it because I want to, not because she's pointing a gun to my head. She types it up in a document like Notepad and I decide if I want to/have the energy to post it. This is only the second or third time we've done this, so it's not like she's sitting there typing up every single post for me. I don't like the forums, so I wouldn't have another reason to be on here or posting anyway. I love my girlfriend and I don't mind putting the effort into being somewhat active in this community if it makes her happy.
If people don't like it, then there's a block button on my profile that anyone can use. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.
Am I the only lucky person here to have more fun and memorable experiences with the Duty Finder than the bad ones :)
Just a few to spare xD

So, was just levelling up my Warrior back then. It was a Stone Vigil HM. Last boss were the 2 derp dinos. My party was all caster so it was tough for them, eventually they got rekt. Ended up alone. And yep, i solo-ed them, dancing like a true viking. Got all 3 comms and everyone left happily xD. #WAROP strikes again.

Again, frigging Stone Vigil. Welp, normal mode anyway. 1st pull, The tank bailed on us. Our comp back then was: me - DRG, a WHM and a BLM. I went 'tank is overrated anw'. We agreed. OH MY GOD IT HURTS WHY ARE THEY HITTING SO HARD MY BODYYYYYY - that was me in the next pull and the next one and the next. But We cleared it, with 2 dupus and a healer. Isgebind was the toughest; his Ice Breath hit like a bus. Another fine run, and it was a bit recent too. Tbf the WHM deserved the 2 comms, not me. Again, love ya healers !
Decided to give Astrologian a spin in Void Ark in an attempt to re-learn how to play the class.
I have infamously bad luck, why did I ever think it was a good idea? Well, infamous in the sense that I only drew a grand total of 3 balance cards throughout the entire run. I think the party noticed and took pity on me because I somehow left with 3 comms. ._.
Dark Knight who didn't want to use darkside because of MP 'problem' and never once used any defensive buff, had the 230 relic weapon on top of that, would lose aggro every now and then VS the MCH...of all the classes. Kept turning the mob in sohr alai (w/e the name) from time to time towards the party, especially those small bird that cleave, not sure if it was intentional or just a complete lack sense.
Sometimes you wonder how some people even manage to get a class to 60, with how bad they play it..
No, but bad ones are usually a lot more memorable :p
Unless it's an overwhelmingly positive experience. And most runs aren't that, they are just kinda "meh" with a few bad and even less amazing runs mixed in.
Mini-story since I ranted about my trial tank last page:
Someone in Newbie Network asked for help with The Navel. I was free so I joined, and to speed it up, I went tank, confidentally threw on Grit and was ready to go >:-D
They wanted to unsync it and I got a bit..grumpy(?), telling them how doing all low level stuff unsynced is destroying the experience and so on.
So, long story short, we went in synced with 3 mentors and the newbie.
I pulled Titan, positioned him nicely, everything started off fine, and....
...I lost hate.
"Oh wow, how did that happen, I'm a lvl 60 DRK, even synced that should not happen!
I need to focus more on the aggro combo instead of the MP one"
Right after, Titan ignored me once again. I was confused and kind of shocked and felt so bad about it too because I talked the newbie into the synced run and now I was failing so spectaculary ._.
Well, I'm glad to say that it only took me several more moments of panically spamming my aggro combo with Bloodweapon on for increased DMG after voking it back to me, that I realized:
"Wait...why is Bloodweapon even available to me? What happened to Grit?"
Well, nothing. It obviously had vanished when we got synced upon entry. Duh.
...I'M SUCH A GREAT MENTOR (ʘ‿ʘ)
(Everyone was really chill about it though and it's not like anything bad happened because of it, but yeah, that was kinda fail)
Halatali normal. Got stuck with a blizzard wizard. I told them "You should be using fire until you run out of MP and then transpose to gain it back to use fire some more". They were so grateful I showed them the error of their ways and they thanked me profusely. Except that's not what really happened. What really happened was I was told "Stfu don't tell me how to play my class and I won't tell you how to play yours". They then spent the entire run berating me because I was in cleric instead of healing even though Selene was keeping everyone alive just fine. This is the reason why 99% of the time I don't bother saying anything if I see something off about how someone is playing :/
Not really. But "fun and memorable" is subjective. I've had Sohr Khai and Brayflox HM runs, recently, that lasted less than 15 minutes each. That's fun for me, watching everything die so easily and quickly. Other "people" find it fun when they mess up runs on purpose, just so their party members suffer as much as possible. Most runs are average, and consequently, unmemorable. The bad times tend to stick out more than the good times in my head.
But all the same, even as I post about all the horrid runs I've had, there are runs that were so bad, so irredeemably awful, that I will never so much as mention them, because I just don't want to remember them at all. So I've had good runs, and runs that were even worse that I'm not writing about.
I just had a weird moment in Copperbell mines where the tank, a WAR who rarely used overpower watching cutscene at the last boss' fight around the aetherial line and had his HP zapped to 0 the moment his viewing cutscene ended.. I dunno how that could even happen.. Moments later, i met the same player at coerthas central on my way to mine darksteel ore. That player went straight to the Black sheep fate (lv30s), i felt kinda suspicious toward that player due to the bizzare occurence, so I stalked that player thinking he might be a bot, but no.. Once his hp reached half and dealt about 50% to the sheep, dude stepped out of the FATE and queued for another duty.
Not much to note of this recent Lost City of Amdapor run other than apparently a dps dropped because of mold phobia. I'm not really mad or anything, and I'm posting this because I suddenly started wondering what kinds of dungeons we have currently that can be problems for specific phobic people. The only other dungeon I remember is Antitower because someone made a thread awhile back talking about his/her doll phobia.
Not just dungeons, but trials too. I remember someone had a story about a SMN who had cetaphobia, which meant that when it came time for them to fight Bismarck, they just stood there while everyone else was fighting.
I've also often thought that Leviathan could cause problems for people who are extremely prone to motion sickness, though I haven't run into that problem with him, myself.
I'm scared of Amdapor Keep HM :O This dungeon is so creepy and the music is so creepy and the room with the demon walls moving towards you and crush you unless you meet the DPS check is so creepy and I'm still traumatized by my first run there as a healer, when my derpyness wiped my party three times on the first boss ._.
Which leads to the second part of my "Toughening Up" quest on warrior!
Keeper of the Lake: Got a scholar firsttimer, yet I pulled everything after the first group, means two trash groups and the Son of the Keeper. The wipe that followed was not because I overstrained the healer, they just didn't heal me for whatever reason ._. I explained all the bosses, and the healer managed to die to every boss, but fortunately late enough so we could kill them without a healer, and clear without any wipes. Got told by the DPS what a bad mentor I am before they left O.O
Wanderer's Palace: OMFG WHY DO THE MOBS HAVE SO MANY AOE O___O It was annoying so I eventually felt back to my old behavior, means tiny pulls. The BLM wasn't okay with that, always ran ahead (but never pulled) and used emotes to tell me to follow him. Was good to have someone who reminded me of why I was actually doing this quest :o Here, the WHM also died to every boss, thus wiping us on the second and final boss. There are people who play the warrior as a one-man-army and just say "screw it" if the healer dies - I'm not that good at it :o Got two comms for the run while I gave mine to the BLM.
Ampador Keep: ...yeah, my personal nightmare dungeon. But the pulls were smooth, and so were the first bosses except the WHM kept getting cleaved by the first one, and as they never moved out of the cleave area, I had to turn the boss all the time, probably annoying the dragoon. Then the room with the demon walls. Oh my god I hate this room and the bard kept singing Mage's Ballad for an unknown reason, decreasing his own DPS and almost making us fail the DPS check. The walls were already hitting us when the last mob died :O We cleared without wipes and I got two more comms, but my fear of this dungeon is still there D:
This weekend I queued as a WHM into an in progress Sohr Khai with two lonely DPS (NIN and BLM). Apparently the tank bailed when the previous healer quit, and they only got past the first pair of those cube monsters. We all agreed that it would be best to clear some trash while we wait for a tank, and it went surprisingly well. For each pack of trash, each of us would have our own thing to tank, and since the NIN would always finish his off first, he'd come and take mine off me. Then comes the first boss... The NIN said they had tried it before with no tank and that it was pretty messy, but since it didn't look like a tank was coming anytime soon, we dove right in. Aside from getting hit a little harder than usual, the NIN was a perfect replacement tank. The duty proceeds smoothly with the NIN tanking and the BLM killing everything like flies. The only time I didn't DPS during this run was the last boss; I wanted to make absolutely sure that no one was going to die seeing as we had gotten to the last boss with no tank and no deaths. What was both hilarious and sad was that we got the boss down faster than some light parties I've been in... talk about DPS being on point!
I also ran into Saito a while ago during a Hullbreaker HM run! (Awesome BRD btw)
Just got out of PotD.
Me on drg, and three brds. Arrows flying everywhere, mobs running back and forth (still managing to hurt them all) and me running after like a mad man. Chest blowing up, traps exploding, and one brd getting the pox. It was a mess in there.
Ten minutes in we're still on the first floor!
I reluctantly said:
"I hate to be that guy but I don't we can do this."
The brd who got the pox took this as a personal attack on them and got angry so I noped out of there. I usually never give up or leave. I can recall doing it three times after playing for over a year. I feel absolutely awful but sometimes you get that gut feeling that it's not going to work out. I hope the three of them got someone who was able to be of better use.
Just wanted to point out re: all the drama in brayflox about being a scholar and purifying the poison
.. you could just heal through the damage until fey caress is up. That's what I did my first run of brayflox, which I did as a SCH. Wiped two times cause I was using Eos, after I was told to use Selene cleared np. I even had her on six at that point...
Got out of prae with a monk who had macroed almost his entire skill tree to some lame battle quote. I had to turn off notification sound for party chat for that run.
*draws circles on the ground in a corner* ;_;
There's no need to be defensive. Whether you're dating or not is irrelevant, I'm just questioning the sense of it being permitted when they've effectively been barred from the forums; I don't think I ever see you post anything that isn't to do with the individual involved and by and large, your account merely seems to be their mouthpiece.
Unless you're a GM, you don't really get a say on what's within the rules and what isn't? Please don't call someone out on their behavior when it's not really your place.
I've seen Kallistra post. They're not very active because, as stated, they don't particularly like the forum, and there's plenty enough evidence why that might be the case.
I welcome these secondhand stories because Selli's ban was extremely unfair. As stated, Kallistra is given the option of sharing stories that aren't theirs. It's not like they're Selli's sock puppet.
I can still share stories that happened to my FC leader, and he got banned for an extremely stupid reason as well.
how could you die when using Eos is beyond me. The skill of Selene to mass heal is a recent addition (3.0)as the SCH is out since the start, tell me how were they doing it back then ? yeah right. Of course if all the dps and tanks stand still in the pool and the aoes and take all full face...yeah but then no fey caress or what not will prevent a wipe.
Had an interesting trial roluette yesterday. Got Final Steps of Faith and the group had three wipes before we vote abandoned.
Wipe 1
Phase 1 goes smoothly, add phase goes smoothly, third phase goes smoothly. In the final phase the first Akh Morn pops up, a healer is targeted. We begin to stack but right before it is cast the healer runs from the group and dies. And everyone is sitting there like 0.0 "Why you run from stack"? Which the rest of the group besides me and the other tank dies to the first hot wing cast.
Wipe 2
Right before the add phase one of the healers died and the other healers starts to revive them when the adds showed up. Me and the other tank take our adds but get no heals so we both died from our adds and they go off and murder the rest of the group.
Wipe 3
Both healers died to the first attack where Nidhogg does the fly over attack and the rest of the group just let Nodhogg kill them.
Before we abandoned one of the dps calls out the healers and says "We're not going to clear with these healers". Which of the healers says to something to him but I forgot what. The Dps replies "Stop dying". Healer responds with "Eat a ****"
Wow so much anger. Must of been having a bad day or something. Shortly after that lovely exchange we vote abandoned. Good times.
In real life, my body just freaks out on it's own when a spider is in the same room and nothing is there between it and me to protect me.
Luckily, the computer screen is somewhat of a protection, but there have been videogames I had to stop playing because the spiders looked fairly realistic and I was too close to getting a panic attack (if we are talking about MMOs, namely LotR).
I had no big troubles in FFXIV yet, mainly because spiders aren't used as enemies. The Deremites are really close though, and while I CAN deal with them, they make me very, very uncomfortable and I will stay away from any area and dungeon of which I know has an abundance of them (like the Northern part of Central Shroud a bit right to the giant tree root, or the dungeon Toto-Rak). I mean, I did it for the story, but I never returned to help friends or newbies and I'm pretty sure it's one of the few dungeons I actually dropped upon getting it in roulette. Yazons too, but they are mostly low level overworld mobs so not much I have to worry about avoiding as a max level character.
Funny enough, Arachne Eve is no problem to me at all. I don't know if it has to do with the sheer size or anything, but all I see is a yellow striped giant blob with no spider features, so I'm good :o
Queued for Main Scenario Roulette as a PLD, dropped into an 8-minute in-prog. A bit unusual, but sure.
It's Praetorium. The other tank is a WAR in ilvl 90 AF, with ilvl120 Ironworks Slaying accessories. They have 7.3k HP in Defiance, 5.8k without. That's less base HP than some of the casters in the group.
DPS consists of a newbie DRG with 4.2k HP, and 3 SMNs. None of whom knew how to play the job in the least. I just started out boss fights in Shield Oath, switched to Sword after a few rounds of my aggro combination, and had no issues with aggro whatsoever. I barely saw any DoTs on any of the bosses, at one point I saw one of them spamming Tri-Bind for some stupid reason, and instead they just seemed to stand around doing nothing most of the time.
Did I accidentally land in a party with a bunch of SCHs who decided to DPS and thought their pets would do all the damage for them? I totally understand why the tank I replaced, left right after the first boss.
Ran these as a WHM.
In Stone Vigil, I had a warrior tank with gears so bad I constantly have to have Cure 2 casting even if she has full health because she gets so much damage that if I wait for her to have like 400 damage, she dies.
Then in Castrum. I'm used to solo healing it as AST or SCH and it was my first run there as WHM. My cohealer spammed holy the entire time. No wipes but theres at least 4 people dead every pull including one of the tanks. I knew it would be a bad run because I grabbed plugged my controller (took like a min) during the first pull and more than half the party died. What the other WHM doing? Casting freaking holy non stop. And I'm the one freaking out trying to salvage the party.
I'm not a GM and I certainly don't know what is and isn't within the rules, hence why I was questioning it, something I'm well within my rights to do, thank you.
I don't know the circumstances of their ban, but after having seen previous bans discussed here I'm not given to believe it was for nothing, and I find it strange that a go-around like this is allowed, that's all I'm saying.
There's a difference between sharing the odd story that happened to someone you know and practically taking over an account (in use or not) to work around said ban.
Check Kallistra's post history. He says why Selli was banned. :) Anyway, posting on someone else's behalf isn't really against the rules. He's still the one actively posting. The only way the mods would really care is if it was Selli herself using his account to post. I wouldn't worry about it. :)
There's plenty of posts on his account that aren't someone 'practically taking over an account'. Heaven forbid someone share in the same experiences that others are experiencing, especially their significant other who is having fun playing the game and can't post. Dude likes to talk about his gf and the experiences she shares and wants to share. Not nearly as bad as someone actually using another account to continue posting (there is one user at least whose username is essentially 'bringmyoriginalaccountback')
You certainly seemed like someone who was policing it, for someone who's not a GM or forum moderator. I guess that means no one should share Dervy's stat weights anymore, or even speak his name.
Back on topic!
After many failed runs I'm happy to report my mentor roulette the other night hit the jackpot with a Ramuh Extreme that actually cleared via duty finder. It took several wipes and getting a replacement healer, but about 40 min in, success! That's the first Ramuh EX DF clear I've seen, all the others were abandons.
You asked if it was allowed, I explained why I think it's okay and gave an explanation to why I do what I do. That's getting defensive? Oh boy. I will admit the block part was a little cheeky, I added it several hours later because I noticed your post had a lot of upvotes. I figured that meant people didn't want to see my stuff, it wasn't directed right at you alone.
I posted this just yesterday and it has nothing to do with anyone but me. I'm not one for inserting my opinion, so I generally don't. That's why I don't have many posts. But when someone talks to me, about me, to my girlfriend, or about her, I generally respond. I know I post her screenshots a lot, but that's because I watch her fiddle for hours over taking and editing them. I'm proud to show them off.
Kallistra, please tell Selli that someone she doesn't know misses her posts so much, I went to find and haunt her on Tumblr. :) I am very glad you keep sharing some of her DF disasters and triumphs. And frequently they're your stories too, as you're often in DF with her.
Shout out to the MNK who got Turn 5 for their mentor roulette. My FC leader forgot to unsync, we were a group of 7, and didn't expect an instant queue for Turn 5 synced. What an awesome feeling to one-shot it with you when it had been a while for you, too. You deserved your 7 comms. :D
On the subject of Selli, our little group in Sargatanas (Ashkendor/Louvain/myself) somehow managed to get her in our little Discord room. Not entirely sure how that happened (think it had something to do with Lou and trying to get cross server mentor roulettes going), but we've enjoyed her presence there.
Well yeah, that's pretty much what I meant.

Had another spin with Astrologian on the wheel of fate in a Void Ark run.
Only pulled like 2 Balances this time. Massive storm of Arrow cards though. I can't complain I guess?
