Incorrect. The contextual information was all there. The English dialogue simply elected to forgo the on the nose exposition of the Japanese text.

There was no information lost in the English version that could not be ascertained through a critical examination of the dialogue.

And im sorry, but just how dense are you? In one example Midgartsorm says 2 very long sentences. The first one is translated into English. The english dialogue is a very accurate translation of the first sentences.
Then Midgartsorm says his second long sentences...and there is no dialogue at all in english.


Come on, just how dense can you be?

Altho I must admit I laughed out loud at this.
FFXIVs japanese script is far from stellar. But atleast they or the other languages dont try to rewrite it into something different, as is the case with the english localization.
I'd like to actually read the main writers original intent you know, whether its good, great, or poor writing.

That's a basic level of respect I'd expect anyone to have for the authors of a work (wether a game, or a book or a movie).



Hence why your argumentations are completely nonesense. If this were an english game and the japanese were the ones to greatly alter the dialogue, i would argue that the japanese translation team shouldnt alter as much as they do. On the other hand you would say the exact same things you do now. Because of your favoratism towards the english language/english translators.


I care about stories. I only care about the language those stories are in, to extend that im capable of reading and understanding said language. I couldnt care less what language it was in otherwise.

I'm going to post two passages. I want you to tell me the difference in meaning between then.

1) It would seem some dialogue was removed from Midgardsormr. Because the dialogue was removed, we are unable to ascertain the meaning of Midgardsormr. If the dialogue had not been removed we would be able to understand it, but alas we can not because the dialogue was removed. This discussion about Midgardsormr is interesting to me. I honestly don't think much was omitted from the original text as all the implications are already there. I think it's just the way it is interpreted that makes it confusing. Again, everything in the Japanese text can be inferred from the English text.

Just the french and english, and the dialogue is for the most part literal translations of each other, which some lines that are different, but the meaning is retained, and the Midgardsormr scene says the same thing in both, and Haurchefant's personality is the same.

The only dialect that annoys me is the lominsan pirate speech. I skimmed through all of the rogue quest line because I could not bear it. It just seems way overdone when compared with the rest.

What he says in English when you first meet him barely makes any sense. So yes, parts of the script was left out. Take it as you will, but for me personally, I find the translation to english to be terrible. Being in that pirate/old english style language doesn't excuse omitting significant plot points in a script.

Umm, not liking the the English dialogue doesn't mean we don't understand it. Now, why does this need to be explained to you? I guess many things, like common sense, just can't be learned from books. English lit mayhaps?

Do you speak Japanese? I get the feeling you don't, but I do, and I'm stating what I heard with my own ears and what I read within the game. Many others who understand Japanese have said the same exact thing. There is even a post on reddit translating the entire thing and comparing the dialogue. Your entire argument is literally voided. I expect variations when a language is being translated. That cannot be helped, especially given the complexity of both the English and Japanese language, but there is a massive difference between variations made in translating compared to just not being there at all, which is very common in this game, and was blatantly obvious with Midgardsormr. Why this simple fact is so hard for you to understand is beyond me.
