I think a banana sword would be awesome, or maybe even daggers too.

A question... if you don't choose to play with the playerbase with a lack of or presumed lack of skill (through merits), does that make you an asshole? I want others opinions. Also, if you say yes, let me know if you consider yourself a great player and if you at the least have a T13 clear. (civilized, please. Just charting something)
I'm truly hurt that my original comment to you was completely ignored, but for your viewing pleasure, I provide with you again my response!
"I find it interesting that you try and post this as if it's used in a positive way. Did you look at the examples provided on dictionary.com? "elitist country clubbers who have theirs and don't care about anybody else.", "He lost a congressional race in Texas by being smeared as an Eastern elitist." It's not a positive thing. Being ELITE is completely different beast and probably what you're trying to stretch for. An elitist is a person that thinks he is better than everyone else and looks down their nose at all the others."
Skip over to Elite, and you'll have the term you're looking for.
elite - per dictionary.com
1.(often used with a plural verb) the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.
2.
(used with a plural verb) persons of the highest class:
Only the elite were there.
3.
a group of persons exercising the major share of authority or influence within a larger group:
the power elite of a major political party.
4. (skipping #4 as it deal with type size. lol)
Adjective
5.
representing the most choice or select; best:
an elite group of authors.
If you honestly cannot understand the negative connotation that is associated with the term "Elitist" in the gaming community, well, I just don't know. But by all means, keep claiming to be an elitist. In reading some of your comments, perhaps you truly do belong in that class.
This whole thread is a load of rubbish.
Let me guess, you people would LOVE the ban on DPS meters lifted so you could belittle and kick out DPSers who are not up to par wih your expectations of how much DPS a player is supposed to be doing.
You mean, doing enough dps to prevent enrage? If you divide the number of damage needed after tank and healer dps is determined, and divide that by 4 (for four dps) and they're FAR below that average, how is it bad to replace them? Having four such dps would literally make it IMPOSSIBLE to clear much of the content in the game with enrage.
In FCOB coil for example, if any dps is doing sub 300 dps (including echo), you're saying we shouldn't replace him because he should get to play however he wants? I don't get this logic. I really wish they would allow parsers in the game so I wouldn't have to rely on others who risk doing so. I'm a paranoid guy so I don't parse, but I accept that without them players wouldn't be able to reach full potential or see improvement. Unless they're just auto attacking it can be hard to tell which dps is holding back the group.
If my group is dying when a boss is only at 5 to 10% health every time, you better believe that if you are not pulling your weight in dps you will be kicked.
I've used dps meters for years in WoW. I never "belittled and kicked" anyone without a good reason. If I saw someone low on the meters I would politely ask them to step it up a notch. If however they couldn't, either because they dont want to try or because they don't have the gear, after a few wipes they would be replaced. That is not unreasonable.
Belittle and kick? No. But yes, I would like to see them allowed so that people can understand their shortcomings and try to make adjustments. You seem to live in this black or white world where people can't strive for perfect execution and not be assholes at the same time.
But yes. I will happily belittle and kick people that show zero effort or desire to improve. And you can quote me on that.
Shouldn't everybody just like... "Code Red: Abandon Ship"? Every comment is more-or-less self fulfilling at the moment and will likely lead nowhere but into more anarchy lol. All you guys are doing is placing warnings and targets for potential suspensions/bans. Do what I'm going to do and forget this thread exists.
If you'll notice, 90% of the people who complain about bad dps are referring to people who get sub 200 in stuff like WOD. That's all a part of doing a basic and simple rotation. Even in i90 you can destroy 200dps if you're doing some semblance of a rotation. 200 is barely more than auto attacks. People don't care if others are less hardcore as them or if they're not top dps, they care more if they're below average. Because if you are doing the basics of your class, you should at least be average. It's sad that people don't even strive to be average since "it's a game and they can play how they want". Or "it's just WOD man, WHO CARES".
If adequately geared in FCOB you'll still do good damage if you're doing a proper rotation. Most players in this game don't even use offensive cooldowns. Or they use them once and never again for the rest of the fight.
The next time you do a DF with a tank who doesn't use shield or sword oath, BLMS who only cast blizzard 3, and melee dps who don't flank and basically just auto attack while spamming the same skill over and over, tell me you won't leave or at the very least be annoyed.
That is a completely unfair way to summarize this conversation. To be honest, the most rational people in here are the ones agreeing with the OP and saying that no one likes people that are rude but at the same time no one likes people who are unwilling to try either. It is the people that seem to be against what the OP stated that are the most polarizing faction here.
A Melee with an i90 weapon will have a serious difficulty pulling more than 200 DPS on most WoD fights... But hey, it's his own fault for not farming a relic, right?
This. This is 100% true.
I've played WoW for years and generally speaking if your dps is middle of the pack (average) no one will care. The only people who do get insulted and called out on their dps are people who barely do more than auto attacks. I think there is a misconception that if you allow dps meters then everyone will be mean to everyone else, but that is simply not true. The people who get called out usually are only doing half or less of what everyone else is doing.
Falsely suggesting the only upgrades past 90 are extremely long grind relic weapons. Do you normally try to make a point with useless hyperbole?
1 weekly Crystal Tower Quest = Tomestone + 3 weeks of poetics = 120 weapon. In that three weeks you would easily complete the quest 2 more times and therefore have the twine to upgrade it to 130. This isn't rocket science. Your point fails, and I didn't even get into Shiva weapons for an easy 115 weapon yet.
Not a single word in those definitions had any inherently negative connotation. You are adding that with your own prejudice. However I invite you to point out the negative words there. If you actually can.
Oh yeah, he can do Final Coil and Extreme Primals... the very same content they are being shut out from by you elitists. Nice.
I think the issue has been convoluted by the OPs insistence on using the term "elitist". Players who are skilled at this game aren't the issue (and are not elitists by default). The issue is the people who think they are in the top ranks, whether deserved or not, who berate, belittle and rage on those who in their eyes are not as skilled. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being awesome at this game. It all boils down to how you treat other people, and I think that's the issue at hand.
This thread is a train wreck though as there have been a lot crazy generalizations about how horrible the casual players are, as well as some about the more skilled players.
Did you seriously ignore the WoD questline that within 3 weeks blatantly leads to a 130 weapon? Seriously? That's blatantly casual level content and leads to the second highest iLvl weapon in the game. Come on man. I just mentioned this and you still blatantly ignore it. How do you intend to be taken seriously when you don't even pay attention to what people are saying.
I challenge you to pull 200 DPS on a STRIKING DUMMY using a monk who has to stop hitting and let stacks fall every 15 seconds because you're simulating dodging Angra Manyu mechanics, with an i90 weapon and mostly soldiery gear.
Also, crafted weapons are only for people with bazillions of gil, Crystal Tower don't drop weapons and you are assuming everybody can log in every day to farm Poetics.
There is literally no time where you need to drop stacks to dodge a mechanic. Mortal Gaze? Turn around just before. Double Vision? Stay close to the boss. Level x Flare/Death? Run out for a few seconds, run back in, stacks don't fall off. Hourglasses? Punch them instead.
I don't think I have ever lost stacks on MNK in that fight. And that encapsulates part of the issue. If someone is losing stacks on it then maybe that's something they should work on rather than just accepting it as the way it is. I don't understand how these concepts are so foreign to people.
EDIT: I'm starting to wonder if you are just trolling. If so, good job, You got me!
I actually know that. I pulled the striking dummy card BECAUSE of that. KNOWING that DPS on a striking dummy is higher than in an actual fight, I challenged the notion that 200 DPS is a bare minimum acceptable by saying that not even on a striking dummy it is possible.
So you're actively admitting to trolling now? Hah. It's time to walk away. You aren't helping yourself or your argument. Take a breather and rethink this course.
Way to completely fail in every way to acknowledge how wrong you were about the i90 weapon thing btw. Such a big man!
If you think i90 doing 200 on a striking dummy isn't possible? Wow, you must know absolutely terrible dps.
I have a feeling he wants someone to prove him wrong just so he can go "THIS PERSON USES A PARSER, BAN HIM". He can't legitimately think it's impossible to break 200 dps on a WOD boss, let alone a striking dummy with any difficulty.
