[Suggestion] Fashion/Vanity Slots.

This was actually annoying in WoW when I did PvP. There was a group of all gnomes who all wore santa gear and it was simply awful to tell who was what. They all use the same character model and details and all wore the same stuff.

I understand how the system can be abused, but with the right restrictions, it can be a fair system. Something as simple as "Only what your job can wear." and "No seasonal items" would already do wonders.

This is a system I want people to use to not look so mismatched if they don't want to. That is my intent at least. I have very nice looking Heavy Darklight Gauntlets, but my Felt Bracers with melded STR on it are obviously better, but look awful on my character. I would love it if I could use my Heavy Darklight Gloves looks on the Felt Bracers to make my character more pleasing to my eyes. This is how I want people to look at the system.

I have no doubt SE will set the right restrictions for the system. If not, we just do what we do best and complain about it till they make it right.

So if you speak out against the majority you get your posts deleted. Good to know.

The opposition to a toggle reveals what I've long thought is the true motivation is behind many who want a vanity system.

Although many proponents of the system claim to want to have the '"right" to dress how they want', what they REALLY want is a system where other players can't easily judge their power/progression by their gear. A widespread and enforced Vanity system creates a culture in the game where the players can easily hide their insecurities about their gear.

**BTW, I'm saying this as a player who doesn't have a single piece of Darklight, a Relic, or any insecurities either for that matter

Those who want it for fun, or just want to see their own char in w/e gear should have no problem whatsoever with a toggle.

Personally I hope the vanity slots are limited by the same constraints the primary slots are as far as level/class/job.

Also, a toggle. Definitely a toggle.

I can understand wanting vanity slots so you can perhaps appear to be in full AF even if you have better gear in slots... but seeing reindeers running around will just be an enormous eyesore.

So the best solution I see is a mix between limiting what one can wear in vanity, and putting in a toggle so a player chooses whether they can see the vanity slots of others or themselves.

You can't even do this before the vanity system, as players don't always wear gear that is exactly their level. Do you look at my plate mail to see If I'm a PLD? What If I'm wearing Scale mail, or rainmaker's tunic, or a hempen acton for laughs? the only way to be totally accurate is through check.

and if you are concerned about your own party members, keep in mind that ARR displays the job of the person in your party, which should also be obvious from their main hand weapon.

It's pretty easy to determine what pieces of gear a person is wearing just by visual inspection (indeed pretty accurately without check verification) if you're familiar with gear models actually Kallera, barring materia of course. Anyway, I'm not sure your statement really matches the one you quoted though.

the gear yes, you can see it, but the gear itself doesn't determine the level of the person, and other than the main hand, can be different from what the class "Usually" wears.

Why do you think SE would restrict you from wearing reindeer garb as vanity gear, when you can wear it right now (at any level, as any class/job) without the vanity system?

I am actually against any limits on a vanity system. If people want to dress up like reindeer while really wearing PLD AF, or if someone wants to mix WHM AF pants with Heavy Darksteel Armor, and PLD AF gloves, (while actually wearing full DRG AF) then they should have the "right"

-- just as long as the rest of us can toggle it.

. . . have you seen the stats on the reindeer? The reason people dont wear it into combat is

A. it gets damaged and they cant store it till repair lolz
B. it sucks ass

You add vanity system

A and B are gone, there will be more reindeers.

Even I would suggest a limiting factor as people will take screenshots of the ridiculousness of reindeers owning highly geared looking people and then it hits youtube and the outside goes "... people pay for that? pfft" and move on (just like the rest of the world does to WoW now). But there has to be a toggle, so much immersion is lost knowing items are not items and there is nothing solid about them. Hey look a relic weapon doing 2 damage.. -_- someone equipped a weathered gladius.. oh..

Hence the need for a toggle.

It's definitely going to be limited in some fashion. I'm making suggestions as to how. If you sit and think about it, you can come up with much more annoying limitations... and considering Yoshi's mention of certain class/job gear being iconic and serving a purpose as to display what that person is on, and how it'd be ridiculous in PVP environments then some form of limitation is necessary.

If there's no limitation, the vanity system will become almost entirely pointless when everyone toggles it off due to being sick of seeing reindeers in endgame battles, or mages wearing DRG AF, etc.

I'd take the mention of a vanity system coming with some reservations to be honest. Given what they've said before, I highly doubt the vanity system is going to be as free as most of you expect it to be.

Toggle though, is a definite must. In fact, several options to toggle would be nice, such as toggling others, yourself, both, etc.

as long as we are walking the road of prudishness, should we also have a toggle for Sublimen?

No limitations - its fake gear, so why limit it?

If you want to see other players as they really are, keep vanity toggled off.

If you want play in a world of pretend gear and reindeer outfits, keep your vanity toggle on.

It is pretty hard to not know what job someone is on. The only two right now you could mix up right now are BLM and WHM due to both using wands and staves.

Unless vanity is automatically off - and requires a passcode.. it should be limited because people who use vanity will post media to the internet. That media will help or not help SE get a better image/more customers.

If all the outside world can see is naked people and christmas destroying end game - its not going to be very good on SE image or in flow. In the past SE has had some crude humor but it is very controlled - players SE cannot control beyond the systems they give us...

Subligars should never have high defense - but subligars are a real world piece of armor. Though.. usually it comes with a skirt... (roman armors)

Subligars should never have high defense - but subligars are a real world piece of armor. Though.. usually it comes with a skirt...

I think you aren't getting it, gear is already varied enough to have some outlandish outfits while swinging a sword. you want limitations on limitations in the hopes of controlling what people wear on your screen. And I noticed you still haven't addressed the subliman issue.

You're blind. I did. I said subligars are real armors - as in real freaking life. I just said there is usually a skirt over them. It's even in your quote.

I agree, the default setting should be off -- make vanity an 'opt-in system'.

Then we don't have to worry about arbitrary limitations on what gear can be used with it - and nobody can complain that they can't dress however they like.

I suppose a nice thing about a vanity system is that future gear can be designed with more realistic stats as people using vanity slots won't care what it looks like.

Almost all games strive for a ground of reality and fantasy. I dont know why I need to explain this concept - but yes you are right plate mail in a volcano lolz wtf, but there is too much reality that you cant include it all.

But simple concepts like "cloth armor isnt as strong a metal armor" is so so so so so so so so common. Why? .. I hope you can answer that yourself.

Maybe you want to play a game where the plausible logic is thrown out the window. But I dont.

I can't wait to break the immersion of thousands by rocking a pumpkin head, dream robe, subligar, and dream boots with my /display mh off and 'jump'ing constantly all over town while shoveling handfuls of poison frogs in my lantern like mouth.

It's a role-playing game. Looking the way you want is a really great part of developing your unique character, so I for one am looking forward to vanity slots.

I'm also 100% against any sort of toggle for people to be able to choose "not" to see vanity slots. I'm not just wanting to look the part of my character for my own benefit.. I fully intend for everyone else to see my look as well. I think having a toggle is somewhat stupid.

Shouldn't it be within the realm of possibility to make vanity sets client side only? If you can see that you're in a reindeer suit when fighting, that should suffice. Everyone else shouldn't have to see what you want to perceive yourself wearing.

Not really. Most people have in mind displaying your unique look to others. If this was the case, people would do what they did in FFXI and just swap .dat's around.

Indeed, why is it a need for other people to see your vanity slots? It has zero effect on you. The "look at me" aspect is a weak argument.

So you want a toggle to your toggle to affect vanity slots in or out of combat? Or should people magically transform into their combat gear at the drawing of their swords. Come on...unless their going to add a "HENSHIN!" sound, that's a little much...

I wasn't asking what people actually wanted, I was asking if it was within the technical capabilities of the game. I apologize if I misinterpreted your statement though.

People are against a toggle cause then it would make no mroe sense to wear absurd gear. Nobody can see their stupid gear then there is no point to wear it anymore so they dont want a toggle....

Toggle button for those who enjoy at least a sembilance of realism.

Best solution would be if all event items would not be eligible for the vanity slots and they restricted to your job/level

dat editing, even in your context, is not kosher with SE. And having a toggle will not prevent people from wearing absurd things and posting screenshots of it.
