People who deny that there is anything wrong with the game.
- Can you find people who think their opinion is the only true and righteous one that can ever be and everyone else who disagrees with them should die in a hellfire. And dismiss any sort of rational argument or evidence if it doesn't fall in line with their personal view.
Oh, wait.....
To be perfectly honest, you are confusing a few things here, love.
Floating names can be turned off and i do so 90% of the time, raising the dead is part of the lore, taking a dump in the bushes is hardly worth a mini game and emotes add to roleplaying.
Jumping does not add to lore, gameplay mechanics ore roleplay unless you insist on roleplaying a character with a severe jumping fettish.
what I said times 2
with added. Who thinks swimming is immersion breaking, and quotes the discovery/history channel as a reason not to add it.
I GOT ONE!!!!!!
Could you find a person really suggesting to implement Tetra Master back into society......
Jumping will not be a dead topic until it has been added to the game or FFXIV gets shutdown! :p
I bolded the part that's wrong.
You're right in saying that adding the ability to jump has no impact on the lore, but saying that jumping has no impact on the gameplay mechanics is simply ignorant. I apologize if that sounds a little harsh, but it's true. Jumping can and does have a dramatic impact on the way any game is played. Trying to deny that is like trying to deny the sun exists at noon day.
I'm sure you're aware that when you need a raise you're not dead in final fantasy games. You're "K.O."
In any case it's not even a problem of immersion, not nearly a problem with RPing. Jumping in a MMORPG looks unbelievable stupid, and mechanics-wise it can easily be replaced with the ability to climb and drop down higher cliffs.
There's no other reason to demand the ability to jump with such insistence than to be able to abuse it. You may as well desist in the futile attempt to hide it. Sincerity is a virtue.
If I wanted a platformer, I'd submit myself to the utter torture of playing super mario.
Not really. At least, not if the character animations are good.
Eh... depends. Most of the time, yes, but there are certain things that can only be done with a designated jump button. Plus let's not forget that adding climbing would probably be far more complicated to implement and take longer to program than a simple jump button.
orz
Torture? Mario is one of the single greatest video game franchises ever created!
Actually no, it's not there anymore. Tetra Master got shutdown at the end of 2010.
Considering that a large percentage of the characters in the game wear/wield heavy armor and cumbersome weapons, no matter how well the animations are made, it still looks extremely silly. And it did in basically every single MMORPG I played that included it.
There already is climbing in the game, both up and down. It's just extremely limited in height difference. Raise that limit to head level, and every problem is solved. It'd be even more convenient than jumping, because you don't have to press any button. Walk to the ledge and drop down, or press against the cliff and climb up.Quote:

Easy, convenient, and looks less idiotic.
I find the whole series aestetically jarring, the story unbelievably stiupid and the characters absolutely irritating. And I dislike platformers with a passion. You know, tastes.
I'm sorry but since when do you play a Mario game for the story lol
jumping makes the character alive. Its a life like movement. If I see something in my way I jump over it, instead of walking 5 ft around it.
I;m saying don;t cry immersion if you don't role play. Or feel 6 hour days add immersion. Or the fact we don't sleep.
Also very few ppl in WoW did jump spam. You guys would know this if you actually played it. Also.... how many here spamed /dance2 in ffxi or /dance4 or had to cure spam as a dancer.... you were technically jumping a lot. Or using spectral jig again is a jump.
I play every game for it's story (between other things) unless it lacks one completely (like racing simulators for instance). If I have to be subjected to the presence of a story, then I like it to make the slightest sense and not to make me want to punch the author.
Oh really? Do tell, how many fences you jump every day? how many times you jump over a bench instead of walking around it? Do you jump off your balcony instead of walking out from the door?
Jumping is one of the least used movement by human beings in day to day situations.
/dance1 samba style 3-4 jumps
/dance2 3 jumps
/dance 3 1 jump
/dance 4 3-4 jumps.
and more ppl spamed those more offten then ppl spam jumped in WoW
yet that don't break immersion....
True immersion isn't what is realistic or not. It is the ability to interect with the world. Jumping is away to interect with the world as is swimming.
If I saw remove running because characters running around everywhere looks silly. You guys would bit my head off.
-Do you jump down the street, or jump up the stairs, or jump to work?
-Do you jump up and down (with a 3 foot vertical) in one place when you're bored?
-When someone has a fence around their yard, do you jump over it instead of using the gate?
-At the airport, when there isn't a line of people at a ticket counter, do you jump over the zig-zag railings because it's shorter? Or the zig-zag fences at an amusement park?
-Do you frequently jump off two story outdoor decks instead of using the stairs?
-Do you frequently try to jump on top of your friend's heads?
Meh, I'm getting bored of this. I hope you get the point.
BUT ANYWAY.... there are compromises to be made. An auto-jump or a limited manual jump (I've already explained this one to you, but you ignored it) would be perfectly acceptable to everyone I'm sure.
in karate? kung fu? or in bellet?
Sorry but how realistic is a 12 hour day? How realist it to always run around everywhere? How realistic is it to battle monsters? How realistic is to only be ko'ed by a monster?
Before asking about how often I jump in real life do considering those questions.
You know they might as well implement jump because this is just going to become a cry-baby debate from here on out. "I want jump! MOM!!!! Mean old man won't give me jump! WAH!!!"
sorry but again if jump isn't realitic to you but
12 hour days are
not dieing is
not being able to sleep is
running around everywhere is
showing no physical way of talking is
fighting monsters are
being a cat humniod is
ya............. stop using immersion as an excuse.
manual jump is better then auto jump. In auto jump you can get caught in a jump loop pretty quickly. I've had this happen in just about every zelda game and game with auto jump.
What part of "day to day situations" did you not understand?
Let's see. Do you know that "Modern fantasy" is differentiated from "fairy tales" mainly by the fact that it's realistic? Think about fantasy movies, fantasy books, think about the most epic and enthralling battle scenes. How many of those mighty warriors you see jumping around like schoolgirls, instead of staying well planted on their feet?Quote:

Do you know why it is like that? Because in 99% of situations jumping looks stupid.
Oh, by the way, Jumps in real Karate are actually very, very rare outside of simple physical workout. Same for Kung-fu (or better, the many, many extremely varied styles of martial arts that people erroneously bundle up as "Kung-fu") Just an heads up.
I wasn't. You were. You brought it up. You started mentioning jumping in dance and martial arts. I just brought up examples of how silly some of YOUR insinuations are.
And again, you ignored the important part of my statement. Probably for the 4th time now. So unless you're at least willing to acknowledge the real point instead of ignoring it because you want to troll, then you aren't worth talking to anymore.

P.S. Stuff it.
Compare that with the whole duration of the 3 movies, what's the percentage again? A whole 0,001%?
Exceptions normally confirm the rule.
This, of course, without mentioning that it does look extremely awkward, and if replaced by a generic jumping animation present in any kind of MMOPRPG it would undeniably look extremely stupid.
Please. Grow up :DQuote:

Nice ninja edit there, Abriael
Yes, and if you read the thread in which he talks about it (oh right, you probably don't speak Japanese), he says they are considering adding it in a way that doesn't take away from the experience.
So if Yoshi-P is smart he will do one of the following:
-Add it as auto-jumping
or
-Add it as a limited manual jump
And since he's been doing a good job so far, I'm pretty sure that's what he'll do.
