The Ageist itself is kind of legendary... well, the face on it... albeit outside Vana'diel... but still!
That is, the hyottoko, or hi otoko (fire man Edit: forgot to mention the Blaze Spikes enchantment here), and while I can't really think of an FFXI reference from it, I do find it at least slightly amusing. (Perhaps they were just reading/watching Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer while thinking of something to do with a shield and a face on it.)
There's also a bit of a play on words (or rather katakana) going on with its names on the Japanese side:
Aegis = イージス = Iijisu
Ageist = えぇぢす = Eegisu
Regis = いぃぢす = Iigisu
Or at least that's how I read them (I'm no expert). It's just slightly different ways of spelling the word.
On the English side, I guess they might have played with the R being somewhat similar to A, Aegis and Regis looking a bit similar if you look quickly, and maybe squint a touch.
It's goofy fun, but no, I would not want them to do this for everything else similar going forward either. Edit: Also yeah, having it in even just a slightly different colour would be more fun, like it isn't a perfect copy in that regard (either).
What comes to the other April 1, 2023 (JST) Version Update notes posted on Thursday, March 30 (UTC), I'm most looking forward to the option to turn everything off (the Courier job and investigating 10,000 floors of Nyzul might be interesting too!)...

...or so the legend says.
Why are you so fixated with your them and us argument style, if you said something I agree with I would agree with you. You seem steadfast set on disagreeing with someone based purely on who said it because you think they are your enemy.
I really do not understand why you do this because ultimately we are on the same side of liking the game and wanting the best for it, it's almost as if you would welcome a bad outcome if in the process you could prove someone you don't like wrong.
This strongly... by posting on a forum in a thread created for the discussion. How exactly is that "feeling strongly"? I think you are the one who feels strongly about this because you are trying your hardest, across multiple threads, to force me to change my opinion or attack me personally for my opinion. You are bringing up things that have nothing to do with the discussion to personally attack me. How in the world do you think I am taking it more strongly than you lol.
The truth, as explained to me by various people, is that he is on the spectrum. He fixates on certain details or issues with people and becomes obsessed. You can see how he constantly name drops his "enemies" and tries to dig at anything possible to personally attack them. Here we are all discussing something about a video game and our likes/dislikes and he comes in with personal attacks, name drops, trying to do anything to hurt/shame/disparage people who he considers his enemy. It's really weird and a shame that someone like this can't be reasoned with. I have even tried to PM him elsewhere to discuss what his issues are and he just posts word soups and nonsense, like trolling but not from a 12 year old, from someone not well.
I think at this point most of the diehards of this game are probably older and all have their own issues, so sadly you have to have that in mind when you are faced with someone doing something really odd.
Well "Ageist" is a word which means one who discriminates based on age.On the English side, I guess they might have played with the R being somewhat similar to A, Aegis and Regis looking a bit similar if you look quickly, and maybe squint a touch.
It's called a spectrum for a reason, there are a range of different circumstances described by it, and it would be best to be careful about unintentionally disparaging others on this spectrum by stereotyping it.Originally Posted by Immortal

Can barely tell the difference from a distance, just like I said. I even have the Aegis HD'd lol.
As you see, more people share the same opinion. Nobody wants this for all REMA, so hopefully it stops here.
I can see it clearly in your image, and my vision is horrible.
They never stated any plans to do a full range of relic vanity clones. This item was specifically "added" in the april fools update notes, and if you watched the May Digest, you'd see they simply decided to add it to the game after inventing it on the fly for the april fools joke. Thus, this item exists specifically because of that.

Whos to say they wont continue doing that with other items? The backlash for the Mindmelter staff could have prevented that from happening again, hopefully this thread was read and they see not everyone liked the idea, thats the whole point in the discussion.
You can see what clearly? They look almost exactly the same lol
Almost the same != the same
I mean seriously, do I need to make the pixels bigger for you? I can clearly distinguish those two shields as different items.
As I said, this item specifically exists because they did it as an april fools joke and somebody decided "well let's make it real." Please don't start with the slippery slope logic.
