Rdm is not currently a very useful job. The only time we shine is when it's important to have one person able to dd, tank, heal, buff, and debuff, all at once. This of course only happens when soloing. Outside of that, our healing is nearly useless. dd is ok, but nothing special. Tanking is above average, but with whm curebots with infinite mp that isn't important. Buffs and debuffs are both fairly unimportant. Rdm is nearly useless in a group.
Honestly, in a group, our dd is probably our most useful contribution. And we're really just an average-ish dd.
The thing for me isnt about being the best or average DD but the fact is that considering the recase timer on our most damaging spells and the high mp cost of such, physical damage is a more consistent and reliable way to damage a mob. Personally I think it is dumb to let anybody with a combat weapon skill B or higher keep thier weapon holstered. I hate leechers and as a RDM that can do more than be a freaking nurse that is exactly how I feel like i'm leeching. Sure I should probably be happy and just enjoy but that is what lazy weak people do and that isnt me. I much rather let the WHM do it thing with group heals and do what I can to help tank keep hate off of him and lighten his load, Especially since alot of WHM group spells cover more people for about the same mp as my single target spells but I guess that is "unreasonable" to some people. (sigh)
It'd be true if we were used in different ways while partying. That isn't really the case because our melee and nukes never matched the amount of benefit a party gets from having us heal and buff others. That's largely where the problem comes from and why all the melee frustration for RDM exists. The fact that we are melee-themed yet can't melee at all due to how our mechanics have affected others' expectations of us never really helped.
On the topic of tanking, tanking as a whole would require a bigger amount of changes to be made viable again for RDM. We don't have a way to constantly generate emnity, which is what needs to be looked at without reverting the emnity nerf for enfeebles. Someone should probably make a thread on RDM tanking, though. I'd like to stick to the OP topic as much as we can.
That is kind of the whole point Mirage we rarely get to demonstrate that side of our Versatiliy because of all the whiny people.
