Ideal Gearing for Titan HM (WHM)

I'm curious what is the ideal gearing for Titan HM? My main is WHM with about Half Darklight and the other half the iLvl60 Strategos gear from AK.

I'm not one to want to gimp the raid so grinding the rest of the Darklight pieces isn't a big deal (even if stat wise it's not a huge jump).

HP is at 3.2k with this gear.

Is it possible to do Titan with that or should I wait until I flesh out the rest of my darklight?

3k hp is the threshold. 3.2k is widely considered the "safe" threshold. It's not really a throughput check as much as it is survive this one really big hit!

I did it on my scholar with similar stats. Darklight belt/gloves/boots/2 acc, balance Strategos.

What weapon do you have? If your Cure 1 is doing 800-850 on average, then you should be fine. At 3200 HP (without the party buff) you'll be fine survival wise. The key thing in that fight is getting the mechanics down, and avoiding everything thrown at you aside from the Tumults (AE stomps he does). Not to mention keeping the tank topped off during phase 3, and where possible throw a stone-skin on before he starts his flipping-tables move.

Eventually it comes down to muscle memory. Having been through it about 40+ times myself, you just get a feel for things as they happen, and moving as little as possible so you can get that next heal out.

Just did a few attempts through the Duty Finder (lulz). Other than people being terrible at avoiding things, as well as knowing where to run on bomb placement. It feels like it's actually a pretty easy fight to heal.

One question though, when I heal up the group after his Jump, i seem to grab his aggro (While the first time I have Shroud up so it's not an issue, second time it can be a little hairy). Any suggestions from my end?

Before the first jump, he will only do Tumult and Landslide. A simple Regen on the tank at all times should keep him full health in between Landslides, so you don't take too much healing aggro. When the first 2-3 tumults happen, try to let the Scholar AE heal everyone, instead of yourself.

When he jumps the first time, everyone should stack, and you should toss out a Medica 1. Again refresh Regen as needed on the tank, but the fight is still pretty much the same. If people avoid the things they are supposed to, your enmity should be minimal.

By the 2nd time he jumps, start using Medica 2, and help out on Tumults, as the scholar will need some help with the AE heals at this time. Again Regen the tank, and use Cure 1's as needed. Rinse repeat this up to and through the Heart Phase.

When you get to phase 3 let us know.

Yeah, it's really not that hard until after the heart phase.

You are pulling because each phase change resets all aggro, so when you cast Medica II to heal everyone you are gaining aggro on a target the tank can't hit yet. You have 2 options:

1) Make the scholar double succor and you AoE heal after the tank regains aggro.
2) Have the scholar Aldo you, and you take the aggro - eat the shield and trust the tank to take it back quickly.

Either method works.

It depends on what Class/Job you're co-healing with, but what I usually do regardless is use plain Medicas for the first few Tumults before the Geocrush/jumps begin happening, where he usually begins stomping 3-4 times in a row. Medica II will very likely overheal early on and thus generate more enmity than necessary. Of course, it might also honestly just depend on the tank. Gods forbid, some Paladins seem incapable of doing their 123 combo for maximum enmity. Stupid tank buddy I usually queue with is a wimp and lets the other one main tank if they have so much as 2 extra HP over him. x_x

That said, still haven't killed him. Got fairly late into Phase 3, but then either I or the other healer would mess up to Weight of the Land. Can imagine how I felt. :p

Edit: Are you really sure that there's an enmity reset during each Geocrush/Earthen Fury? Because I'm genuinely surprised I haven't died a single time yet during those, despite spamming souped up Medica IIs. :o

3,500HP is a good number. I've seen plenty of WHM (*drumroll* Duty Finder) with 3800 - 4000HP die to bombs/plumes because they don't know how to dodge. Or, resurrecting players and getting punted off the platform from Landslide.

You don't need exceptional gear for this fight. Either primal weapons from Garuda or Ifrit should do just fine. Instead, what should be exceptional is the knowing of Titan's rotation.

Wrong, each phase does NOT reset the aggro.
Medica II just does tons of enmity, so if the tank isn't building enmity fast enough, you are likely to get aggro if you are spamming Medica II too much.

Tip, only use Medica II after stomps and after he lands when he does the jump. You don't need to use Medica II for the first couple of stomps, a normal Medica is enough for that. Tell everyone to gather up during stomps to get the heal and then move out after that (later on there will be "weight of the land" straight after stomps).

With a good tank and depending on the damage your group is taking, you might get aggro once during the fight. Usually around the second or third jump, just try to calm down on the healing and not over-healing. If you get aggro, use Shroud of Saints (you can use it when you get to orange if you think the tank wont have enough time to get more enmity).

I had someone in my team who said it was 'impossible to do Titan HM with only 3k HP', please don't believe these falsities. I was on 3k HP when I beat it. The more the merrier but I survived the entire fight, it's about getting heals off in time when it comes to the stomps - not the amount of HP you have.

anyone who tells you you need full dl for titan is dumb, i did it with amdapor keep gear and dl accessories

Back to square one.. I still don't understand WHM that put 30 MND for a merely 50 hp heal increased over 450 self HP.

Your problem is solved if you change to VIT30.

While hp 3.2k is a safe zone, but you'll risk yourself when you have no choice but to eat bomb on last phase when your hp is not full.

You mean to tell me that all of the aggro generated by a paladin in phase 1 isn't enough to hold aggro against ONE Medica II, when there isn't a single example of that happening anywhere else in the game? Furthermore, it takes a couple of skills to get it back from the WHM if a Medica II is popped immediately after a phase change.

I've played a lot with my static group, I know how aggro mechanics affect us. Based on every single other boss fight up until Titan HM, a Medica II (one cast) has never pulled aggro off a tank outright.

There is definitely an aggro reset when Titan jumps in the air between Phase 1 and Phase 2.

imo, there is no aggro reset, if there was, Titan would be on the healer after every jump, since his Medica 2 ticking on every single person who's attacking him.
aggro problems come up on Titan because Medica 2 generates A LOT of enmity, and you do need to use on a regular basis, because people take constant damage from stomps/fury etc.
none of the previous bosses had anything like that, iirc. since you're constantly healing everyone right from the start of the fight, be it Medica 1 or 2, healer's enmity is always high.

I completed Titan HM with 4 bits of DL gear but if you wanna be on the safe side, grind out the whole set then take him on.
You have loads of time.

After the heart phase, healing will be the first thing people scream abuse about if anything goes wrong because standing in an aoe or making a bad move is unheard of in wonderful dps land. So you may be better safe than sorry for those small but helpful extra numbers and the HP to make sure you make it to that point after the stomps.

@FinagleBagel, you're the ones who seems to be ignoring what we are saying. There is no reset between the phases.
Try this next time, only use Medica 1 for the first stops and give the Tank cure/cure II to top him off. As soon as titan jumps, go to the side and throw a Medica II.
Your Medica II will go off BEFORE the tank gets a chance to do anything against Titan (if you are timing it right), you will NOT get aggro if the tank has been building enmity during the first phase properly.

And to further clarify how Enmity works, I'll quote this post since he explained it pretty good.

This was from the Tank forum, as you can probably tell based on what he's explaining. However, the enmity part is what you should look at in this situation. You should NOT spam Medica II when it's not needed, as you will be building more enmity than the tank can during the same time. That is why you get aggro, not because of some reset. The tank just haven't had enough time to build more enmity than what Medica II generates.

Yeah, did some more Titan Hard tonight (Ojoy, I should really find some decent group in /shout) and I've still yet to see any aggro reset where I viciously get maimed.

And honestly, "one" Medica II (in regards of Titan at least) sounds like a questionable statement at best. Do you think that plain Medica spam we do to keep up with Tumults prior to Geocrushes doesn't generate a single bit of enmity? Medica II generates a lot of enmity, yes, but that's not the only cause of enmity generation during the fight. Even before Geocrushes, I'm easily No.2 on the enmity list, possibly shifting down to 3 every now and then if another WHM is in the group.

The difference is I have flat out static numbers. When we did Titan HM I had 2 Succors (big pre-cast, one during) per 1 Medica on the stomps. Thus, aggro gen should be roughly equal. There is no Medica II until the first phase change. Every single time, the WHM pulled aggro. We even tried to minimize the the WHM casts in Phase 1. It made no difference. When the two of us casted succor/medica II between Phase 1 and Phase 2, the WHM got aggro.

It doesn't cause a serious problem, I just Aldo the WHM and the PLD has it back in a few seconds. He takes maybe 1 hit. Regardless, I have dozens of instances where one Medica II didn't pull aggro like that. Furthermore, we've had Medica II casts EARLIER than the one in Titan HM and the tank still didn't lose aggro. I cannot square the differences between all past experience and this one instance. There has to be a difference somewhere.

Please show me one other instance where mid battle, ONE Medica II pulls aggro.

This only happens from Phase 1 to Phase 2. The rest of the battle is normal. Medica II does not pull aggro any other time.

That's precisely how we were doing it. Unfortunately, I don't know of a single better tank at the gear level we had at the time. I highly doubt this was his fault, considering it never happened on any other boss.

If the second half of your post was directed towards me, then what I meant was that during the first phase (prior to his first jump), Medica 1 is enough to keep people alive. After the heart phase, you should throw 1 Medica II preferably right before the stomps and then cast Medica 1 during the stops. If you get enmity problems, just use shroud. Using shroud 2 times during the fight should be enough to make sure that you'll never get aggro, depends on the tank as well of course.
Normally, using shroud just once will be enough to keep you safe during the whole fight, later on you'll probably just use it for the MP instead :)

Notice how Medica II was used prior to the jump and everyone had the HoT on them.
Had there been a reset then Titan wouldn't have gone straight for the tank.

I've been running Titan tons of times to get FC members their Relic weapons, I'm 100% certain that there is no reset.
Also, pay attention to what he says during the video in phase 1. They are doing it so that the tank can build up enough hate, so that healers wont have the problem of over-aggroing later on. Strange thing to do during phase 1 if there was a threat reset, wouldn't you say? :P

That have never happened to me, not even in the Titan fight.

If anything, that lends even more evidence to my argument. I misunderstood your statement. We cast so that Medica II / Succor goes off right after Titan lands, but before anyone else can land a hit. If possible, I pre-cast Succor if I'm close enough to the tank stack to start casting early enough.

If you already had the HoT down, then you casted it before he landed. Whether or not it's before or after shouldn't matter if there is no aggro reset. If it DOES matter (which it seems to), then there is an aggro reset. Otherwise, the tank would have aggro either way.

Regardless, I don't really care what the guy has to say in the video. There are several parts I disagree with, including the thing about how aggro works between Phase 1 and Phase 2.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, because we can pass Titan HM without any trouble - even with 1/2 people down. Heck, I think I might try to solo heal it as a Scholar. The fight isn't tough, there's just one odd issue I see between Phase 1 and Phase 2. It should be pretty easy to test, I'll let you know what I find.

This will be my last statement on this issue, as you aren't providing any proof to your claims while I've given you plenty of proof that there is no reset.

Either way, what I meant earlier was infact casting it after he lands, however I just took the first youtube clip I found to prove my point.
And since everyone had regen on them when titan landed, it did prove my point.

If you want any more responses then at least show some proof of your claim.

I'm well aware of how Medica II works, you can drop that snarky BS tone you seem to so enjoy. The difference would be the initial spike heal as opposed to the significantly less healing throughput gained through a single tick, which Succor obviously exceeds.

It could also be as simple as player lag. I've got a lot of confidence in my PLD, the guy doesn't lose aggro very often all.

I frankly don't need you responding. You've proven very little. I'll actually test this a bit later this week to see if I can pull aggro by solo healing and using the Eos dot right after the jump. If she pulls aggro there's definitely a reset.

I run 15 Vit/ 15 Mind.

Puts me close to 3.5k In party. Half AK and Half DL Gear.

Also, I just downed him tonight finally! We put together a random group at Rev and took a few attempts to get it but it was solid. Such a fun hectic fight, I love stuff like that.

And you should read my post before disregarding it. Show me at least one boss prior to Titan, where constant/regular (not just on some phase transitions like Garuda/Ifrit) AoE healing is unavoidable for ALL party mebers.

If your WHM pulls agro after the first jump, they either don't use Shroud, overheal, and/or tank doesn't build enough enmity. It's simple as that.
I never get aggro if i only use Medica 1 before the first jump. Then Shroud and i'm usually fine with whatever later on, given that i use Shroud by cooldown.
Yes, even with Divine Seal > Medica > Regen on tank, right after Titan lands. If the aggro was reset, he would go for me.

There was never once Tank could hold aggro from WHM in Titan HM unless Shroud of Saint is used, and Titan hate list never reset.
Normally, WHM will overaggro in around 1st bomb phase +/-.

Oh, and yes, we can't only use Medica 1 to keep overheal to minimum (which make them not full HP) unless you are sure that your party will avoid 100% of boss attack and end up in instant death. In static, I'd rather use medica 1 though since we are 100% sure.

Truth to be told, I've only see one ignorant person in this thread so far and I encourage you to play WHM 50 before post furthermore.

Back to the main topic, Shyluv, 3.2K hp is obtainable via DL gear + ilv60 piece (Though, I'm not sure how many DL since i went VIT30). Some ppl will swap out MND ring for Amber Ring instead, but I still recommend spent VIT and use MND ring. (You'll get useless parry stat with Amber Ring)

Side note: @Sziadan, I remembered you asking about my healing as VIT 30 way back in other thread. I've to admit that I forgot to post result after getting relic for same Magic Dmg weapon. I'll post this later in another thread then.

I just wanted to say, you're very wrong here. Medica II has MUCH more enmity generation than Succor spam. The shield generated by succor doesn't grant threat like the after-effect HoT Medica II does. Regen effects in this game are insane enmity generators. It's quite bizarre really. I party regularly with a SCH friend, and he spams Succor quite a lot while enjoying less enmity generation. Medica II is a healing bomb, I use it cautiously, maybe once every 2-3 minutes if I can, with shroud of saints. Play a WHM for any length of time, and you will quickly learn how dangerous Medica II can be. SCH are really lucky that their shields generate no enmity.

Sorry to sidetrack here but does anyone know of a link with a comprehensive guide to end-game White Mage gear? I've tried untangling what AF1 vs AF2 vs. Relic vs. Vanya's means. So far, I've got nearly full Darklight, AK gear otherwise, and want to take on Titan, but now I'm concerned there are gear options I didn't even know about!

AK gear and DL up to 3,2k ish HP with either Ifrit's or preferably Garuda's would have you ready for Titan. The more DL, the better. Vanya's is a min-maxer's dream, but it's very difficult to craft optimally. What I would like to know is, where I can get a good shield for Garuda's weapon? The darklight shield from WP seems sub-optimal to me, are there really no better options pre-Titan?

Ther is no other fight before Titan where there is so much group damage going out. Even on garuda, the group is only hit group wide one time, this is not much enmity.Titan, by contrast, is dealing 50%ish of everyone's health every other special attack rigght from teh start. This is easily 16k healing every stomp cycle in phase 1. That is quite a lot of threat.Also, owing to the glitch that some peopel were using (having a whm jump off and LB), there seems to have been a tweak to hate generation in phase 1 (before first jump), but this does not carry through the rest of the fight.

I can, however, tell you, there is no hate reset. I am main pld, I've done the fight endlessly, there is no enmity reset. Watch your threat relative to the best dps in your group during a jump and you'll see it doesn't move. You are underestimating the scale of the damage increase Titan brings compared to earlier content.

Also: PLDs should not lose threat at any point in this fight. Only caveat: whms must use shroud intellegently, but if they are, and you loose threat, its on you.

OP: As a general rule, we suggest new members reach 3.4k hp (while in party) before we take them through titan. This is not the minimum requirement, but we have found that the fight is more or less trivial if everyone in the group is over 3.4k. This is actually enough that even twoards the end you can eat a single sand and stay on your feet. You may look into vitality food, on my server buttons in a blanket is very cheap and offers 12 vit. This is a relatively easy alternative to more time consuming gear acquisition.

I did titan hard mode with only darklight ring, earring, belt, wrist, necklace, the rest ak gear. weapon was the GC ilvl 46 wand and the GC shield. More then enough to clear titan with a competent group. (granted people would say im not geared enough, or they'd blame trouble on heals not being geared--->if this happens, find a better group imo) I got cut from one group, they replaced me and never got titan down, I got picked up by a second and we cleared on the 3rd attempt and so flaunted the staff of craigs just to flex the e-pen. So go figure the original group wanted to re-invite me and help them down titan. /sigh...the life of a healer. cheers

Funny I found this topic because it just came up last night. They would not invite X player because he had 3100 HP. I then healed the next fight (and win) in my Christmas gear and relic with well below 3000HP to show them while HP/gear is nice, knowing the pattern and what to do is what makes or breaks the fight. Not saying I can keep a whole group of people up with that low of HP but I withheld that tidbit. It required a ton of self stone skin and the damage mitigation buffs I knew the party was already using when I boasted I could do it.

Guys. I'm level 50!

When I first finished Titan HM I had mostly my AK dropped gear and accessories. I was still in a few AF pieces though (I think gloves and helm), Ifrit weapon and some level 47 ring (damn you AK never dropping me that ring). I duo healed it with a SCH and we were able to finish it fine.

In the first phase if you use Medica II during hte AoE damage + jump there is a good chance you will pull threat. Just watch your threat and be careful and have shroud ready if you need it (I know it sucks using it early when you don't need mana). I typically have no problems with threat once Titan is pushed into the heart phase though.

Medica II is a healing bomb, I use it cautiously, maybe once every 2-3 minutes if I can, with shroud of saints. Play a WHM for any length of time, and you will quickly learn how dangerous Medica II can be. SCH are really lucky that their shields generate no enmity.

I disagree about casting Medica II no more than 2-3 minutes due to fear of getting aggro. Maybe this fight is different than Garuda but I do cast double Medica II on Garuda at some points and have never gotten threat. Nor has the tank complained about my being high on the threat list.

I did it fine with 3k HP--survived to the end. It's all about the whole rest of your party and whether they're able to dodge.

One party member said I had too little HP. He died before reaching Phase 5 -_-0

Garuda doesn't require you to AOE heal your entire team right from the start, whereas Titan does. The difference in hate is huge, Titan you will likely have to Shroud of Saints very early in the fight, I typically have to do it after I Medica for the first jump.

Medica II really shines at the very end of the Titan fight, though. Not only will your hate be low enough after several Shrouds to safely use it and stay in Green enmity, it can usually let you not have to worry about the rest of the party while you keep the tank up for Mountain Buster as long as no one gets hit with more than one Weight of the Land.

Just FYI, if you are using Medica II twice in a row you are wasting MP. Medica II is weaker up-front healing than Medica, but heals more in the long run due to the Regen. If you have the Regen effect already on then Medica will be more MP-efficient.
