Group based leveling, challenging, fun, rewarding, new, different, lots of outside world content, some instanced content(not a lot), story based progression, no gear wipes/resets, no gear tiers, no level cap increase after the initial increases(say, it gets increased to 99 then stays there for 5+ years), good strong rewarding crafts that make the best gear in certain slots, even at the level cap, level cap bosses that drop mats to craft into gear.
I typed that horribly but it's 4 am.
XI with IX visual design and skill-slot system.
Heya!
My perfect MMO, huh? Easy said!
It has to have a beautiful lore, that you can use to do fantastic quests and instances.
A PvP arena, where you can practice playing with other players/parties before going into a tournament fightibg players/groups.
Single-player friendly with a lot of party content, where you can solo to cap, but doing it faster and funnier in a group.
Achievements are nice. I like to see what I've accomplished during my adventures in this MMO.
It has to be challenging! Having the powerful stuff at the beginning lets you see high damages, but is Lame! I want my character to be a Total Sh*t, and then become a savior.
Things like economy, weapons, stats, etc. can be like any old MMO, like WoW or Ragnarok Online, but this is my perfect virtual world.
See ya!
Take the Everquest out of Final Fantasy XIV, add in some Demon's Souls, Minecraft, and Assassin's Creed. Done.
So much for not using the titles of other games, Seif. And you as well, Neptune. Please, learn to read OPs, unless you are admitting to being "really lame".
My perfect MMO would have reasonable graphics, interesting storyline which immerses me and feels like I'm part of it. I also want plenty of lore and content, be able to explore and encounter surprises out of the ordinary, and feel part of a community which likes the game they are playing.
a lot of unlockable content. It's what keeps you around for a long time. If you have to do X, Y and Z to get to zone X2 then you can't explore everything in the beginning and exhaust the game without really playing it.
Or to unlock skills, spells, story, quests, classes, jobs, professions, recipes, zones, items (and upgrade them).
Player housing. Would be nice if it was somewhere you can actually see... Like a zone just for player housing. So you can actually see player houses (with limits to sizes etc otherwise in 5years everyone will have a castle and you have zone with 15000 castles :P)
Lots of variety in gear. Being able to have complete control over the looks of your armor. I would like to choose the color of my armor. It would be great to be able to combine gear to have the looks of something but the stats of another.
I like beast tribes attacking player cities and us having to defend it. If we fail then we would lose some benefits (like bonuses, services, tax increase etc)
PvP for sure even if limited to just certain zones/battle grounds/ instances etc
An achievement system and a way to measure how many hours you have spent in the game (lol)
a lot of animations when i cast the spells (like my hand movements etc) lots of flashy effects (from spells and weapons skills)
many many many variety of zones. They can be smaller... Lots of different themes.
Snow and arctic, forests (night/day/elfy big trees small trees... can be a lot of different forests), jungle, lakey, island, deserts, saharas, undewater, dark and scary or dark and mystical. Beast tribe home zones with lots of nasty aggro monsters.
Different aggro type monsters! Low HP, smell, sound, sight, weakened etc
Jumping, maybe even flying (in whatever form, dont mean on a dragon or with wings just any type) swimming, climbing, underwater stuff zones and content quests etc
A good game needs to have a good economy. An auction house type is a must (no price history pls.. items r worth what they r now, what someone else paid a month ago...)
interactive items in zones (like I want to pick that stone or stick from the ground and throw it at the mob)
A fun gathering system where you can see what you are gathering.
end game that matters, so not going to increase cap every year. Make a cap, decide set it and keep it for a while.
many different looking mobs in level appropriate zones.
No junk items.. I want all items to be worth something.
great story (did I say that already?) beating many big bad world and my beautiful city threatening a$sho1e bosses :)
plenty of different travel methods (pirates attacking ships yeeeessssss!!!)
Overall, cool story, lots of cutscenes, lovable characters flashy animations beautiful effects (AND SUMMONS!!!) great graphics LOTS OF VARIETY and more content than I could handle...
edit: ADD RELICS for those really hardcore who just have all the time in the world to play their favorite game. Let them show off their badassness and awesome weapon to us (and we can drool over their weapons which would take ENOURMOUS amount of time, money, friends, resources and gametime to accomplish). Only meant for a very very very selected few... :)
Yea, I don't ask for much.... lol
To be honest, I'd like a decent Mature Rated PVE MMO that has a deep meaningful storyline, great character customization in the vein that you learn things from using skills not leveling classes. IE You go to a magic school and learn the basics of magic. They teach you the basic healing magic spell and every time you use it you get stronger at healing magic. Once you hit a certain level you automatically learn new spells from the healing magic school. etc.
Weapons all act differently and performing a skill on one weapon varies with how its performed on another.
Armor is Varied, but the "Theme" is something like Viking Medieval.
Hell Make it full blown Norse. The players are Einherjar on Midgard Training for Ragnarok and fighting off the forces of Hell as they try and invade and cause Ragnarok to start early.
Yeah... Cool story bro.
I hereby admit to being "really lame". To elaborate further, take the grind out of FFXIV, add in the multiplayer content-focused mission structure of Demon's Souls, and add in the creativity enabling of Minecraft. One reason FF online games aren't as popular as offline FF games is that FF games don't have grinds in them. That's where Demon's Souls comes in. It's the perfect online game. There is no grind, just players playing together, having adventures. It's the best. That's what FF is searching for, but like someone said in a recent thread, they weren't smart enough to figure out how to attain it. Devs, go play Demon's Souls!!
Demon Souls was ALL grind :/ Fun grind, but still a lot of grind.
I started the game as a... Priest? who had archer skills
Final Fantasy XI screw the rules. That game was awesome.
What i want is a beautiful world with a sense of adventure and danger.
Isn't that what's happening in XIV?
If you didn't know, your starting class is just what you wanna start out with and what kind of sould you want to have. You make you're own class since whatever skills you leve up depicts what type of damage and weapons you can use. Demons' Souls was a great game, and the combat was awesome. The grind was fun and the mobs were hard. I agree with him, Demons' Souls with some tweaking would be a great mmo.
Take XI and breed it with WoW then give it Tera's environmental visuals and FFXIVs character/armor design.
My perfect mmo?
Have no classes just a character level and skill levels. Group oriented dynamic content. A strong emphises on role play (not via personal character story, but living out your character in the game). No level gaps meaning anyone can group with anyone. And little to no npc, everything is player run. Realistic visuals, Dynamic weather, and dynamic lore.
Full customization over your character, the world can be fully explore via swiming jumping (flying depending on race), a full pk system, and an absolute death (where if not raised in time your character is buried and unplayable.) And an action base attack system. Chating is done via voice chat, with a low ranged proxy chat (3 steps in any derection.) full collision system but instead of stoping you bump into other players.
Only wait to to get gear is via dungeon exploration or crafted by players.
No npc shops or quests, all player based. Little to no solo-ability, and no content is longer then 30 min
Guild Wars 2 (but replace Asura with Taru/Lala).
A modern, streamlined MMO set in Vana'diel. They could call it FFXI-2.
Or shit, an MMO set in Ivalice. That would be fun. Though I'd prefer Vana'diel.
Setting means a lot to me in an MMO.
The world must include the monsters Skeith, Innis, Magnus...
Im sure people know what im getting at
Well i have to say i really like how GW2 is looking. With that i did enjoy how FFXI was played that for way to long.
Let's see.
- An open, seamless world. This includes buildings. And they should have doors.
- Full freedom of movement. No flying mounts, but there are
- Designed to be roleplay friendly. This includes character biographies, among other things.
- The world isn't covered in things that want to eat/kill you. The world should be relatively safe until you venture to completely uncivilized regions.
- Multiple travel options: mounts, ships, airships, caravans.
- Skill-based progression, no classes or levels.
- Motion-captured animations.
- Exquisite character design. No two characters will look alike.
- Realistic clothing (yet appropriate for the setting), fantasy armor.
- A full crafting system with two modes (quantity, for skilling up and materials, that requires that you only have the materials; and quality, that requires effort on your part to create high-grade items).
- A first-person viewpoint (toggleable) that has body awareness - I should be able to see my weapon in my hand, not have attacks magically appear out of midair.
- A world where my race, gender, skill selection, and equipment matter to the NPCs and make a difference in my interactions with them.
- A fame/infamy system that also affects your interaction with the world. This reputation should also be reliant on both skill selection and past deeds.
- World interaction that is more involved than just killing things. Let me help run cities, social events, businesses.
- A complete player housing system is an absolute must, and it should be non-instanced: all the various yet useless buildings that normally populate MMOs should be purchasable by players.
- There is no end game, because there are no levels, and progress is mostly horizontal.
- The goals in the game are more involved that simply striving for shinier gear.
- A market system that has player run stores that compete with both players and NPCs.
Edit: Updated
Godzilla VS US Army would be a fun MMO game
I would want to play some kind of post-apocalyptic MMO, something that was inspired by and drew elements from Mad Max, Akira, and Fist of the North Star. Survival would be the big theme in the game. You'd fight bandits/gangs, mutants, etc. Some classes I'd like to see would like an engineer/gunslinger class that could customize their weapons to alter their abilities/skills. A mystic/martial artist class that would rely on martial techniques/"chi" (like Fist of the North Star). A half-mutant/psychic class that had telekinetic/mental powers (like Akira). A vagabond/samurai class that would kind of be like Michonne from the "Walking Dead".
Some areas would be like vast deserts with sporadic encampments with roaming nomads, cities on the water in areas have been flooded by polar ice caps melting, underground cities, ruins of abandoned cities.
A large part of the story would be trying to find out what the hell happened to the world.
I guess the closest thing would be a really good Borderlands MMO.
My "Perfect" MMO (without using other MMO names):
A realistic world/characters filled with breathtaking animations ranging from spells/attacks to Cut-scenes etc.
Big towns that are fast to navigate (maybe even have an in-town railway system to jump on real quick).
It would have jump but it would be class specific animations. (example: Lancer would thrust up with his polearm, mage would use a spell underneath his feet to gain momentum etc..., there would be a delay due to the animation and landing so you could not spam it like bunny-hopping)
There would be a vast array of quest-types to do. However progression would not just be: click this quest and go here, continue to max level etc... Depending on Quest-type reward would be based on the # of players, difficulty of monsters & the time remaining (reward would be EXP, Money, Armor and/or Random Reward Box).
Regular monsters all across the world would drop very basic gear so you always have something to upgrade to even if it sux. You would be able to add stats with a sort of slot system if you choose. The stones to place in slots would drop from all monsters (not too great stats, unless rare NM) and the better ones would be crafted or dropped from very special areas.
EVERY single zone would have a "% completed" collection for fun. In the main interface you would view the objectives that you needed to do to complete a zone 100%. Achievements for 100% would likely be along the lines of a nice "gemstone" or a special glow/icon around your character while in the area. Treasure rates also would go up a little while in the zone. Little enhancements like that.
Not just a "card game", but several (10~) mini-games all across the world. Different "cultures" would have different games that you could play. Part of doing this would be for collection and competition.
PvP. I'm not the biggest PvP fan, but you could duel anyone if they accepted or "rent out" an instance of a zone to have larger battles in (like towns or battlefields or something). There may even be a sort of friendly "PvPvE" that you and your friends place monsters in an editor and then you all enter to see who can kill the most monsters & reach the end while killing each-other to slow others down.
Built in to the interface would be the ability to access tutorial information, guides/recommendations & official forum along with bug-reporting.
ALL content would have a sort of bill-board at the entrance for players to vote on the enjoyability/fun/challenge. They would only be able to vote after doing the content at least 1 time and would need to wait about 1 month or until developmental changes to that system to vote again.
There would always, at the very least, be bosses included in most content at the "end". However, there would also be very memorable bosses for much more challenging content.
Guilds would level up from the progress of everyone in the guild. The rewards would be like passive traits that are applied to everyone in the guild. There may even be a sort-of "talent tree" for a guild to choose.
Leveling up would only get you so far, but defeating bosses would be necessary for "unlocking" things to progress your character even further (ex: killing MegaBoss #1 = Higher impact of VIT on DEF & HP etc, Boss #2 = Ability to use another slot on armor for your "gemstones" etc etc).
Bah, i can't add any more, busy and gtg. But you can sort-of imagine how it could be. Bottom line is no straight-line to max level and always fun content for all levels (mini-games).
Anyting with good creative graphics and no levelling system.
Lego Universe was boring.Quote:

I like MMOs that have a lot of quests. Some you need a group for. Some you can solo. I also like a main story that's presented separate from the content quests.
Never played it, but i've played mmos where you have the choice to start on a capped char (old free to play mind u) or level, and i much prefer being on the capped char and not having to level to get skills, i much prefer questing and the such to get better, not hitting a goat on the head 5000 times.
of course if there has to be one because the developer is not creative enough to have without, then do something like tera/xiv where in xiv you have the guildleves, which SE soon will dish out loads to help people and there is a variety, and in tera its all quests and nms that you level on.
i like Fable's idea of the story makes your character stronger and the decisions you choose through the game dictate how you look and how the lore reacts to you and ofc how your weapons are designed, but it was very minimal customization (ofc its a single player) and i think their implementation was very dull in fable 3 where after a story you just pop a chest n bam ur stronger lol isn't very motivating.
Perfect mmo in my opinion
1) Group based, it is a multiplayer game... should be obvious but this is my #1 complaint about the direction of the genre.
2) Unbeatable, meaning I can play for about 10,000+ hrs at release and not finish it. I feel a mmo should be never ending it is the difference between a console and mmo game. I do not want to buy a mmo and be at cap with all my gear in 2 months. MMO with 300hrs of content no thanks.
3) Instanced only PvP, World/open pvp destroys the community and ganking pisses everyone off
4) Content for all player types. Content for those who can play 4-5hrs a day and content for those who only have 30mins before work.
5) Unique content, most the mmo players have played a mmo before most do not want the mmo they already played with a new coat of paint.
6) Engaging, fun group focused battle system and gathering/crafting mechanics which are not click 1 button and you are done.
7) Story line, A good story line is key for any RPG... too many mmo's story are getting pushed aside for gimics and ease of leveling though.
8) A feeling of accomplishment, I want to feel like all my work leveling paid off, getting that gear I been working on getting means something. The game saying I accomplished something means nothing to me, I need to actually feel it.
9) Guild and large group activities. Building a strong guild has been a major accomplishment in my eyes as much as getting an epic piece of gear. Some smaller group stuff is fine but there needs to be guild/large group content as well.
10) A vibrant world, the world needs to feel alive draw you into it.
".hack//sign" or "Yureka" with VR capability.. AI driven game that constantly evolves. YOU said I couldn't list games but you never said anything about mangas/animes :D
Also we prob wont ever get to that point anytime soon for consumer use BUT THE POSSIBILITIES. rofl
emphasis skill de-emphasis on level.
Easily accessible by multiple platforms.(computer, phone, game console, portable console)
On a funnier note, how does this have anything to do with XIV? Why hasn't this been taken off of the forums yet is beyond me
Since I'm lame:
World of Warcraft accessibility
City of Heroes character customization
FF series story telling
Guild Wars PvP balancing
Maybe it's because I never played Assassin's Creed, but....wut? 0.oQuote:
Take the Everquest out of Final Fantasy XIV, add in some Demon's Souls, Minecraft, and Assassin's Creed. Done.
Really? I'm sure S-E is taking notes on what we consider a perfect MMO.
I'd like:
Cel-shaded visuals
Real time hack 'n slash combat (square to defend, x to attack)
Equipment that teaches abilities.
Combination attacks.
Ownable boats/sailing.
NPC crafters (you bring them the materials, they make the item for you).
Height taken into consideration when attacking. (High-ground has the advantage etc).
A very basic class system (Tank, DPS, Ranged, Healer, Caster.)
Okay, now can I use the names of games? I want Zelda/ Secret of Mana style gameplay with FFT/FFIX skill system (featuring CT/CC dual techs/triple techs).
You doubt what? That S-E won't take what we say serious because we list elements from their (profitable) competitors? It's not paying attention to the what the competition is doing/has done that got them in trouble in the first place. And what does the inclusion of auto-attack have to do with this? Most MMOs have auto-attack, adding it isn't "moving back," it's going forward, realizing what works that others have done, and incorporating those mechanics to make a more playable game. Have you ever tried to have a LS conversation while fighting in FFXIV? It's damn near impossible.
Yeah. Who wants to talk to people while playing a MMO? Totally breaks immersion. Are you even listening to yourself?
~I can swim ~ I can jump ~ I can fly ~ I can run ~ I can walk ~ I can sit ~ I can talk ~ I can craft ~ I earn experience based on my actions ~ I can shop for clothes in many colors and styles ~ I can get my hair done ~ I can get my face done ~ I can get my nails done ~ I can play with my friends ~ I have a home ~ I have a form of transportation~
~~ Hmm.... rl or mmo ~~~ go figure. :P
