what's with the morons on the market?

And by the morons, I mean the people who have undercutted prices to BELOW the NPC value. Legionary Visors are selling on Hyperion for 98 gil. (they NPC for 102) Seriously, if your going to put items on the market, you can at least take enough time to pay attention to what the item vendors for, and if you aren't going to sell stuff for at least the npc value, you might as well vendor it. Otherwise, you're flooding the market and depreciating everything on it.

On Phoenix, every material sells for 1gil.
I think people are used to WoW, where when you add something to the auction house it automatically went to the lowest price on the (player) market. Here it automatically goes to the price it sells for to an NPC.
It messes up the economy greatly. Maybe it's worth considering making it more like WoW, if that will help lazy people.

So you would rather have some one trash an item as opposed to offering it to the community for a reduced price thus helping out the community that needs that item at large?

Or are you just upset people keep undercutting you?

eh, they'll figure it out, right...right?! Otherwise... cheap items for the buyers, yay.

Umm, if you know the price of the NPC and if it is higher than what is sold at the market board, why not just pull it off the market board and sell it to NPC though? You've got nothing to lose here, you even earn some gils.

This is not communism or a charity, i sell items to make money and put the items on the AH for its market value. If the market value is less than the NPC value then i will NPC it until "scarcity" causes the price to raise to something reasonable.
If you are my friend or my FC mate then i'll give you the item if you need it, if you are some random guy you have to pay =).

It goes beyond undercutting, it's destroying the economy before it can even develop.

Actully wow doesn't do that. By default it lists no price. You're thinking of the awesome addon Auctioneer.

Actually what bothers me the most is when people put equipment on the Market Ward. That can be bought from npc, at a much higher price that the npc is vendoring it for. Either put a HQ of it or sell it for less than the npc. I'm not paying for something that I can get for cheaper from a vendor.

That's what I've been doing, but my point is that the economy is getting wrecked because it's forcing everyone else to either give away their goods, or have their retainers sit on the market with goods that can't be sold. It's unfair for new players as they can't make any money on the market. It's also unfair for high level crafters, who have to sell at a loss because the players buying their goods can't otherwise afford them.

People are crafting more items than the market needs to get entries in their journal and to level up. They sell items at a loss on AH simply to recover any value they can. Their losses are so large that it's barely worth their time to see if the market has dropped below NPC buyback.
They aren't trying to make a profit or run a crafting business. They're spending gil to get crafting xp.

It will settle down a bit, but there will always be new people who are skilling up and trying to recover losses by selling cheap on AH. They're not morons. It's just how crafting is designed in most MMOs.

MMOs don't have "closed" crafting systems, where people have to make a profit in crafting to afford more crafting. Instead, people can take steep losses on crafted goods, because they'll continue to make gil elsewhere and use that to fund their crafting skill ups.

No don't tell them! I've made so much money off of these people!!!

I'll admit I haven't checked the market for anything other than standard crafting mats like ores, ingots, fibres etc. But we don't seem to have this problem on Balmung (Legacy server, ofc). If anything people aren't adjusting their prices to take into account the 90% reduction in gil. HQ Felt was 40k a few days ago (400k in old time money.. damn).

You find you are spending a lot on incidental mats, but can make it back by selling things like sinking minnows for 25k (seriously, I sold a bunch of these. They are used in FSH AF hat).

Maybe some people are considerate enough to sell the item to a real player for a discounted price and not be a greedy tool like everyone else and npc them

Flooding the market and deprecating values is exactly the only reason I put stuff up to sell, yes.

It could be the interface for selling stuff, it pops up and the player just accepts the default settings which sells the item for NPC value.

That's actually how it should be. People are not going to buy if they can easily get same or similar items for less at vendors. The savy will compare stats, and not pay high amounts for items with 1 difference in stat numbers of any benefit, when they can get another item for a lot less.

There are items on hyperion selling at far too high of prices, and simply, you are wasting gil to sell them on the Market by doing that. If the item is achievabl in a dungeon or npc there going the most cost effective route. Selling them equal too or higher then an NPC is just poor marketing planning, and negatively effects the balance of the economy. People in fc's eld for members as well.

You misunderstood the OP, I believe. I'm fairly sure he means people are selling items for less than they can get by vendor trashing, whereas you seem to be talking about selling items for less than vendors are selling.
