DoM's Please comment on how the patch has affected you ability to gather!(DoL)

From what I have read of the patch notes it would seem that anyone who went pure caster should not be able to gather any more.

".. When the three below conditions are met in regards to the grade and difficulty of a gathering attempt...Values of VIT for miners, STR for botanists, and DEX for fishers..""

In other words if you put all your stats in Mnd, Int, and Pie you wont meet gathering requirements. This would seem to put DoW's at a major advantage. I dont get it, there is something I am missing.


Has anyone with primarily caster stats noticed an inability to gather since the patch?

I havnt noticed a difference anyway, sweet spots always seemed to be in the same place anyway.

It is very poopy. I think it should be Vit OR Pie, Str OR Int, and Dex OR Mnd.

I have STR 100 / VIT 85 / DEX 100 / INT 100 It's irritating because I'm more a crafter than a gatherer. I craft so much now that I'd be bankrupt if I didn't mine / fish / harvest.

I notice the hit the worst in botany(32) for some odd reasion. Probably because it's lower in rank and my gear is the r37 set compared to my fishing(36) and mining(36). But I've noticed a marked increase in 'fails to obtain anything' in all 3 jobs.

The amount of time required to skew my stats makes it just not worth my effort when I'm only on the job for like 3 hours every 2-3 days. Job specific point allocation. {can I have it?} ; ;

I could have sworn that they said previously that Str, Vit, and Dex were for the main hand gathering tools and Int, Mnd, and Pie were for the off-hand gathering tools. But there's been so many updates who knows how much its been changed.

It is, but how often do people off-hand gather? Most everyone Main hands most of the time.

It's never been officially stated. We actually have no idea what MND PIE and INT do for gathering jobs without hard statistics. Personal testimony is inadequate. We just all assume it affects something about the off-hand, and it doesn't seem to matter enough to get serious about testing.

I need to go out and mine post-patch. My sweetspots are always in the same place as well. I thought with the patch, it would mean that you would ALWAYS strike gold on the gold sweet spot. That's what their example indicated. Dunno how much vit it takes to ensure gold on a gold sweet spot though.

My guess is going to be only a hundred if it's like most stats. Getting 170 in a stat has almost no functional merit in any category. People take stat reallocation way too seriously.

If you are a mage, you have str, dex, and vit convert stats, so that's 15 points. You have str dex and vit rings, that's 21 points. That's a swing of 36 points. If your base STR DEX and VIT is 40, which won't hurt your caster at *all*...you'll almost have 80 str dex or vit with swing points. I bet that's enough to get you anything but the top tier mats.

I've specced down to pretty much even stats across the board and will probably leave it there until the new battle and stat engine. I dare anyone to outnuke me on NMs. It just doesn't seem to matter much.

If what you says turns out to be true that would be comforting and your theory does make sense.

I just wanted to what extreme the DoW stats are effecting gathering. Since each stat begins to cost 3 point at 80 i would say the "safe-zone" is somewhere around there. Tack on gear stats and you probably around max efficiency.

So I just went out to Halatali and I think their description of what the enhancement does is wrong or I just didn't read it right.
I have 116 vitality with the conversion traits and rings on.

Target 1 tic from the bottom west Halatali, Gold Ore sweet spot

Results:
Pretty much the same mix as before of mats: other ore>gold sand>gold ore even at the gold ore spot

BUT
Gold sand and gold ore are ALWAYS in the same hot and cold spot. Before they were USUALLY at this spot but sometimes they'd be out in the outer 3/4 of the hot and cold field.

Before this patch if I missed gold the first hit where it usually was I would swing the hot and cold way out to the periphery where the secondary ore was.

Now it's never out in the periphery.

It'll probably only increase my gold yield by at most 15%, but sometimes I did tend to miss those outer gold ores and sands.

116 vitality at MOST gets the enhancement on the highest level mining target available. Could be much less.

The problem is they made a mistake about the sweet spot. I thought when I read it it would mean positioning the up/down slider for strike point/depth is what they were talking about. but, in the case of mining, it is your strike strength. Say you were going after Iron ore in bloodshore (which is what I am doing) you can set the slider at iron ores sweet spot all you want, you will still get a random assortment of what the node has to offer. Iron ore would be obtained at one level of strike strength if you had the requirements they stated (Which is about 60-75% Full Circle). If that doesnt yeiled Iron ore, then the attempt wont yield iron ore. Limonite and iron sand are pretty much in the same strike strength area.

Yup, it seems that increased vitality simply locks every type of item into the same location on your hot and cold game so that it doesn't deviate to other locations. Gold is always inner inner circle. Mythril is middle inner circle. Iron is at the junction of the circles. Limonite is just outside the junction. Pyrite is outer outer circle. I'll never find pyrite in the inner circle, or gold in the outer circle.

It's not that you can influence whether you're striking gold. It's that IF the item is gold THEN it is always in the same spot.

MND/INT/PIE effects yield, anyone thats actually tested it would realise this.

When it comes to the Str/Vit/Dex when locking in the job/jip/strike point on a item basis I found that with 0 in any of those stats if you had the proper rank for the grade then the items would be where they normally are 90% of the time. So you can gather pretty efficiently with 0 str/vit/dex. However if you want that extra efficiency then yes you would have to raise it to 60 for grade 4. I'm not sure what the requirement is for grade 5.

I'm actually playing as DoM with not a single DoW rank to speak of. My stats have been piled into VIT (to survive), MND (to cast), PIE (to land status) and a bit of INT (to nuke).

I mine main hand (VIT covered), goldsmith off-hand (INT), Blacksmith off-hand (MND) and Armour main hand (VIT), just so I don't have to even bother with a point of STR or DEX. I'm kind of glad I have no intention of picking up mining or botany. In short, I looked for ways to complement my activities.

Just hit R40 miner last night, so I should be able to start seeing the new effects on Grade 5 nodes now. I haven't had the time to test it yet.

Nice. I was about to start stripping at grade 5 to see how low I could go, but as soon as I did I hit gathering fatigue. My overall haul didn't look any different from what it normally did really. I think I got less gold than average, but it varies so much based on chance from haul to haul. My mythril hauls definitely went up in Halatali. If I miss the gold strike and the remainder takes a huge hit, I know it's either wyvern obsidian or mythril, which is right next to gold and easily passed over as your next logical move is to scan the middle field for success.

Even if we do know the minimum, might still do some good to keep vit and mnd up a little bit. This isn't the only thing vitality does most likely.

Overall this doesn't look like something to lose any sleep or specs over. A base VIT of 40 can be pumped to over 80 with rings, converts, and the gathering gear itself.

Go test it yourself because with that attitude it won't matter what anyone else says. It's not my loss if you get less per limited mining trip, but you only care about gold anyways so it's irrelevent.

I have tested it myself. I see you're wearing your brass magnet bracelets to prevent arthritis as well. Do you face west when you craft? Only try to HQ on a full moon? Or have you convinced yourself it's a new moon? I'm sure you've realized quite a few of these epiphanies.

I noticed no difference. About what Reika said, i think they used only "physical" attributes because they are the ones that affect primary weapon gathering. INT, MND and PIE are secundary weapon gathering attributes.

I'm not convinced Physical Stats do anything at all for DoL post patch. I tried to do some BTN with base 17 STR, and I still got the 'fixed' sweet-spot for every single tree I've tried in g4 @ r37 BTN. And I'm not just talking one outing, but every night since the patch. Again, absolutely no deviation in sweet-spots for all of the logs @ their target notch, BASE 17 STR.

It didnt effect the aiming point, it effected the hot/cold game.

I know that, what do you think I'm talking about? To be clear, the patch outline referred to changes in the 'Approach' phase so I was never under the illusion that the notch/depth/whatever was what changed. Just the approach phase, which is the hot/cold game.

The stat amount required probably go down the higher rank you are vs the area grade. If you were to do a GR5 tree (If there are any) it would probably be random again. When I try to do GR4 at r26 miner, everything is back to being random, even tho I have 169 vit for mining, and everything is constant at GR3.

Could be, but then the window of usefulness of physical stats would seem to be pretty narrow. But I guess nothing is stopping that.

I was hoping that your level didn't play a role in the feature since that pretty much makes the update irrelevant.
So the take home message is there's really no point in speccing gatherer past gear and like...vit rings or whatever.

Oh and also the problem with the patch notes is they said 'approach phase' AND 'sweet spot'. we all know those arent the same thing.

At first it sounds like it might make sense, then wait a minute it makes the opposite of sense.
