I know online petitions mean diddly-squat, but this needs to be looked at before the players just leave in droves.

an AFK auto boot will not solve anything it is easy to circumvent it with keyboard macros.... they are doing exactly what they need to do to fix the log in issues and these fixes take effect on the 4th
and you think they are gonna spend the resources of having GMS monitoring every server every city every nook and cranny looking for people that have been jumping for the last hour? No they wont.
further more you can do all kinds of keyboard commands sit stand walk emotes jump so you can just look for someone that has pressed spacebar 100 times in the last hour.
its a waste of resources to build the afk timer, its a waste of resources to monitor players that are circumventing it, when its all gonna be fixed on the 4th.
I refuse to sign on the basis that it would affect me in a negative way.
Who stated it was GM's who would be doing the searching. It's called software, and many MMO's already have it in place. Some log npc and quest interaction, crafting, etc.
If you think this is all magically going to disappear on the 4th, you're a complete sucker.
AFK is not a problem for worlds that aren't at capacity. A lot of "AFK"ers may just be waiting for Duty Finder to match them up. A lot of people are probably not AFK but hanging out online to get a chance to take down Odin, who has been popping lately.
I don't know the numbers, but if there are hundreds of people (per world) AFK and yet thousands (if not ten thousand) per world who are getting the "World Full" "error", then knocking off those few hundred won't make a lot of difference. SE does know the numbers, and also how long it would take to design, code, test and implement an AFK kick. They may even be in the process of doing that now. My guess is it would take longer and solve less than adding more worlds in 2 days.
... Of course I do.
They are doing several things currently. They are upgrading the data centers to hold a larger number of concurrent long ins(better que system) they are also upgrading current servers and adding new servers. With the new servers the restrictions on character creation will go away. Also with the upgraded data centers having a larger que will remove the 1017 errors. Things will start to even out and run smoother come the 4th. also as more people get out of the starting area and spread out amongst the other zones, zone loads will not be as much of a threat to crash the server so they can actually bring servers up to max population. Currently 5000 people logged in to a server they if 4000 of htem are in the starter zone boom crash zone over populated. Log in ques will start to be much shorter 1017 will go away.

He didn't post in on these forums? Odd.
he did in the Japanese section its been translated.
Excuse my Engrish.
Regarding the current situation
We are pushing the servers to the limits but allowing in as many people in as possible. Current record 230k people connected at once
Maintenanace beginning of 4th September Japan time
We are progressing smoothly with our plans to install new worlds as well as the load testing of the contents finder. If everything goes along as planned, installation should be done by tomorrow and we will begin internal testing from Monday onwards.
Judging by our current progress and estimates, we will implement a long maintenance on 4th of September Japan time where we will bring live the new worlds and rebalance the contents finder.
We are are expecting a rush of people logging in once maintenance is over so we will be monitoring the situation and relaxing the restrictions as it balances out.
Regarding addition of free play time
We are considering including a further 7 free days of play to all currently active and dormant (legacy) FF14 accounts. We plan to begin adding these extra days once the maintenance is over. I will update the exact date and time of when the the extra days will be provided once we have finalised the plans.
It's about AFK timers, which would go a long way to relieving some of the peoples frustrations. When I "queue" for duty finder, I don't sit there for 60 mins waiting for it to pop, I go do other things like crafting and questing. There goes that argument. I never asked anything about compensation (I frankly don't care about being compensated).
In regards to the spelling, most browsers show a squiggly red line when a word is incorrect for the language you're typing in. The official posts and many others have used the word correctly and still people, native English speakers or not, insist upon using the wrong word. My apologies if it sounded like a personal attack, it was meant as a friendly jibe to point out the correct spelling of the word.
Couple things that stand out to me, first thing being all of this seems to revolve around the JP worlds, with no mention of the EU/NA worlds. Meaning that this Sept. 4th update is likely for the JP worlds only, with the EU/NA worlds getting their update at a later time, if this wasn't the case then such an announcement would have been posted in the English forums as well.
Second, they are only considering a refund of days lost for those who have a legacy account? Is that some kind of sick joke?
an afk timer wouldnt fix anything 1000s of people are trying to log in there are not 1000s of people afk even if the did add an afk timer 100 people being kicked out isnt gonna make a big difference. What the real issue is the queue system needs to be upgraded so it can hold more people in the queue. All the systems are tied together currently it says the world is full. But its not really full its an artifical limit they have put in placed. Such to prevent zone population to crash the server. This was stated in the long post by yoshi p on these forums. once the data centers get upgraded you will see less 1017 and more you are 500 in queue. Also as people leave the starter zones and start to spread out the artifical cap will be raised to let more people in because zone crashing will be less of a threat.
So because you have nothing you have to do besides play this video game and can wait 30-40 mins without having to potentially clean, cook or ect noone else can have real life duties? When you grow up and realize that real people have to work and take care of themselves you might realize that not everyone afks because they choose to, sometimes we HAVE to do things while we await our queues, especially when u have to use duty finder for stuff like dungeons and trials for the primary story lines.
Arminus its more that they just were not ready for the load the servers have to take. Although i love the game, its to hard to try to play lol, between login, instance and pretty much every snigle server they use to let the game function becoming congested. But after the problems that plagued the first version, i can guarentee there busting ass to fix this as soon as possible.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/73680 this long post
You seem to be uninformed. You really aught to look around the forum instead of jumping straight to Technical Support. I was guilty of that a while back. :) They are considering giving an added 7 days to the already 30 days free trial play to all player accounts :)
I've seen over 100 people AFK on 1 server. I've seen tons of ppl sitting by the Armorsmith and Blacksmith not moving, not crafting, not doing anything but stand there. So, if I see about 100 people AFK in just ONE place, I'm going out on a limb and say there's probably more than 1000 on a server that's AFK. So, let's rethink this AFK auto log out function....
If there's 1000 people trying to log in but can't due to ~500 AFKers, that means that 500 people that are pissed off because they can't play will be able to log in and play and thus, not pissed off anymore. It's simple really, add the AFK auto kick timer and expand the server capacity. If you do both, that will definitely help FIX the problem.
"Oh wait, i'll just get a 3rd party program that'll make me jump every 5 mins to prevent the auto kick function."
My reply to that is I hope you get a Trojan or a virus when you download said 3rd party program. If you ever wonder why when you log in that you don't have any weapons, armor or gil...it's because your account was hacked by said 3rd party programs...that's why they tell us not to use them in the 1st place. So, in short, it'll be your own fault for getting a 3rd party program to keep you logged in all the time. Don't go crying to SE for a character roll back if you use them.
again the anti afk system isnt the answer its easily circumvented what is needed is what they are doing upgrading the data centers and servers so that they can remove the server artifical cap. currently the servers ARE NOT REALLY FULL! its a cap they put in place to prevent over loads in 1 zone to crash the server, then the 1017 errors are due to the fact the data centers queue system needs to be upgraded so that it can hold more people in queue
That link details all the work that they are doing then the other link i posted expresses the compensation and when they are starting the work. they are starting teh maintenance on JP time not just for JP servers....
this is the one that talks about the free time and when they are starting the maintenance.
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...e_days/cbz520t
think of it this way.. if it was for just the JP servers then there would be no need to express the fact its JP time. its like saying if i live in florida and im gonna go to the beach i tell my friend meet me there at 4pm he knows 4pm est time cause well we live in florida. Now if im gonna tell someone in Cali that im going to the beach today at 4pm i need to say EST because he will need to know im talking about 4pm my time not his time. So since the servers are coming down the 4th JP time they are letting everyone know that the servers are coming down at that time not just people in japan.
"Each FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn World server has been designed to support a maximum of 5,000 concurrent connections."
"When more than 5,000 characters log into a World at once, there is a higher risk of server crashes and login errors."
"Creating a new World involves physically acquiring the servers, installing the necessary programs, and conducting internal functionality tests...all before opening the World to the public."
"In addition to increasing the number of Worlds, we are also optimizing the Duty Finder (party matching) management servers in an effort to reduce server load and ensure better stability when using this feature."
It appears they actually ARE full. While increased capacity is a very good choice, nowhere have they stated that this limit will be raised, just that there will be more worlds to accommodate more players.. If you can link me to where they have stated that they will be increasing it above 5k, then I will retract my stance. They will need to implement an AFK timer as well, and as has been previously state many mmo's have anti-afk systems that monitor actual interaction with the game world (other than basic move macro's, which are what you are thinking of) such as npc interaction, dialogue, quest tracking etc.
We aren't suggesting it is the only answer, but one of a few that needs to be implemented. I don't know how you got it into your head we want anti-AFK instead of increased capacity, we want them BOTH.
To prevent this from happening, we felt that the safest course of action would be to limit logins.
you seemed to miss this party. they are not at 5000 they are limiting the log ins at an artificial cap to prevent duty find and other systems from crashing. its stated that the cap is raised in lowered as needed. So if 5000 people are the cap and they have a limit in place that is raised and lowered its safe to assume the limit they have is not at 5000. So when they upgrade the data center and other systems this artificial cap will be removed and more people will be able to log in to each server.
The whole part of that is - "When more than 5,000 characters log into a World at once, there is a higher risk of server crashes and login errors. The restoration of crashed servers is usually followed by a rush of players attempting to log back in, which, in turn, puts a strain on our lobby server, and can ultimately have an adverse affect on all of the Worlds.
To prevent this from happening, we felt that the safest course of action would be to limit logins."
5000 is the maximum any of the worlds can hold and were designed for. They are adding more worlds, not increasing capacity of current worlds. Login restrictions are to keep them at 5000, so they don't go over and crash the whole server. Nowhere has it been stated that this limit will be raised.
It seems it's you who is missing the point.
You didn't read a single thing I posted. Next time read my entire post before you reply. 3rd party programs can possibly get you banned. I know a lot of people that used them in WoW in the pvp battlefields and I would call a GM every time and they would get removed almost instantly.
I said do both...the AFK timer and upgrade the data centers. It's sad there's an auto-logout on the forums but not in the game. If this was my game, the AFKers would be kicked and the people using the 3rd party programs would go through a temp. ban period because the 3rd party programs are against the EULA. If you're caught a 2nd time using them, go play someone else's game and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bother playing my game if you want to prevent someone else from logging in and enjoying the game.
I've been trying to log in for over 3 hrs. If you placed a cap on a server, say at 5000 people and you reached the cap, wouldn't you say the server IS full? It doesn't matter if there's a cap or no cap, the server would be full anyways. The upgrades to the data centers should've happened last week before launch. Like I said in my other post, this game has the worst launch ever....worst than Diablo3.
Just for you Mailstrum.
they say that there are 230,000 concurrent connections logged.
They have, what, 45-50 servers?
45*5000=225,000
50*5000=250,000
Looks like the worlds ARE full at 5000. Hence the need for more capacity for those worlds, kicking AFK players after 45-60 mins, AND expanding to more worlds.
SO ya getting upgraded servers and equipment can just happen right... you do realize that game servers are custom built you can just go to bestbuy and pick up a server thats gonna hold 5000+ people. You have to have them built then installed then the software installed then tested for stability hense the WEEK! you crybabies have no understanding how any of this stuff works.
"Each FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn World server has been designed to support a maximum of 5,000 concurrent connections."
directly from http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/73680
Try again. Looks like servers are at capacity. Artificial login restrictions are to keep them at max load which is, as stated, 5000.
In order to prevent server outages due to login and world congestion, we are currently closely monitoring server loads and making adjustments to both character creation and login limits as needed.
As we approach the peak North American play hours, the North American and European servers listed below in will have their login restrictions adjusted with particular scrutiny in order to ensure a pleasant play experience for all players.
As we continue to monitor the situation, we will be allowing players to log in sequentially. This will unfortunately have the effect of causing wait times for logins to these worlds, but this is a necessary step for the sake of server stability, and we ask for your understanding and patience during this time.
so as you can see here they are putting login restriction, ie preventing people from loging in to the server to prevent it from reaching cap. and then they will raise or lower it as they need to, they know when the duty finder will break so they put a cap that is with in limits of that so the duty finder doesnt break. its not a hard concept guys to understand. then when the data centers and duty finder is upgraded these limits will be removed.
