For me it up to the item i offier for high rank items like 4k seeing that how everyone is offer anyways everyone is a dam craft in the game and gil easy to make so it does not matter.
People on your server are cheap =V
I try to offer a good price going off of the repair material and the skill needed to do said repair. For instance I'll offer maybe 9k for my Toadskin Harness.
Imo, people have no excuse to be cheap now, because if you are smart you barely ever have to repair anything..
To me, good repair reward etiquette:
1. Covers market cost of the repair material. Often they outright fail this essential on electrum and steel repairs.
2. Offers reward for the synth at a 2k minimum baseline.
3. Add 2k gil for a double-synth repair material (squares)
4. Add 2k gil for a field material that takes specific intent to obtain (blood)
5. Add 2k gil for >R40 repairs.
So for something like Jade crook repair you're looking at 8k plus cost of the blood, or about 11-12k.
I've always done item rank x 100 gil.
Peregrine's system is perfect, except that not everyone is familiar with how rare/expensive each item is. =\
1) lol, no kidding, 1k-2k for electrum is just rediculous
2) i personaly go with a 3k baseline
3) squares are common place, 3 nuggets + a few shards = 12 squares so i personaly wouldnt look at them as more valuable
4) Some field mats suck bad, elytron/bloods and so on, yeah screw those, as someone who repairs everything, these are materials i rarely have on me, in these cases its the persons responsiblity that wants the repair to have them usualy imo, otherwise, they are gonna be waiting a long time for that repair
5) 5k+ for a 40+ repair is very fair, with a few exceptions. the first being alchemy repairs, most people find it commonplace to give 10-20k+ for those now due to the lack of alchemists out there who actualy have the materials to repair those type of things. There really arent many rare materials up that high that warrent big rewards beyond that, its moreso just the pain of finding someone who can. There are alot but many just dont look at repairs when they get up there.
I do
1k for 1-10
2k for 11-20
3k for 21-30
4k for 31-40
5k for 41-50
This is per item used in the repair, if the repair takes more than one item I double the reward.
In the case of more expensive repair mats, I play it by ear and see what the going cost it.
It could be because this isn't WoW, and people actually like to help each other in this game. Also, money in this game is REALLY easy to come by (do a few battlecraft leves, and some crafting leves and you can easily get at least 10,000 GIL (rank 10 leves)), and whenever I need a repair, I supply the required item(s) to do it, so it's not like it's really costing them anything, other than a few seconds of their time.
The person doing the repair also gains SP for doing the repair, so there's absolutely nothing that should make them charge more, since they get extra SP, and nothing is (at least with me) taken out of their own resource stock.
IMO it all depends of the repair material. If its a cheap mat i wouldn't pay much more than 2~3k.
My only exceptions are iron gauntlets and crab bow...its not easy to find a non-mercenary crafter willing to do this repair, even though the repair mat is very cheap.
For these i often shout offering 10k so i can get a fast repair.
I find I get quicker repair when giving a decent amount. I always wondered why repairs are so cheap. If it wasn't for this person you'd be stuck at 75% NPC repair. Like you all said money is easy to get in xiv atm so why cheap out you bums =p I usually just drop 10k for repair. Considering repairs are not needed as much now too and the person goes out of their way and has to use some mats.
Skilling up a craft is fairly easy and doesn't take to long so you have an abundance of craftsman around that is able to do the job. If we were restricted to certain amount of crafts one character can train then may be price would go up or if the time it takes to skill up one craft increases a lot then i think some people may not even bother training certain crafts and can lead to only a certain amount of players that are able to repair...but XIV ain't like that =D
I usually offer like, 5k for repairs, although my ls is the one who does my repairs and they say it's too much lol
It's a little bit more than that, just because you've also got to factor in the time it took them to level their crafts so they can repair it in the first place. They don't always get SP. And when they do, it's relatively little. Usually less than 100 SP per repair. For a high level crafter who has to get 100,000 SP for her next level, getting 30 SP for your repair is not really worth the time.Quote:

I usually try to be generous when seeking repairs. I'll offer 10K to 20K for repairs. For me, it's not a matter of them needing to charge more. If someone is taking the time to help me out, I want to both repay their costs, and offer them a reward for their generosity. Think of it this way -- Someone may repair my gear for 1000 gil, but if I offer 10,000 gil, I'm getting more than just the repair. I'm saving time because lots of people will be willing to try the repair to get a generous reward. And I'm buying future consideration, because they'll be more likely to open my bazaar and do repairs for me in the future.
So far, money is really easy to get for battle jobs. But grinding a craft to the top levels can cost millions of gil. I want to help people who are willing to grind crafts, because having high level crafters on my server helps me out, since they can make me weapons and repair my high level gear. Anything I can do to encourage that is good.
Patience, AzNic. Money is hard to come by at first, but higher level leves offer much better rewards. When you start getting into your 30s, you'll be able to pull in 100K from doing 1 full set of leves.
And don't forget to check your leve rewards before exchanging leves. When you pick up new leves, you can exchange old ones. The number to the right of the leve that you're exchanging out is a bonus for exchanging that leve. The higher the number, the greater bonus you get for exchanging that leve. (If the number is zero, you don't get a bonus for exchanging it.) The numbers increase if you're exchanging a different type of leve, or if it's from a different city.
So what you want to do is pick up the leves with the highest rewards first, and exchange as many leves as you can for that one. That will increase the reward you get for that leve.
I've actually been able to get over 50K from one leve through this method. Before long, you're going to be sitting on millions of gil, and wondering what to spend it on. :)
Before the patch I gave between 5k-7k for a repair.
Now I give 10k+ for the same repair.
Definitely makes sense - particularly since I only had my first round of repairs since the patch that changed the durability decrease a while back. Took me so long to actually get them anywhere near damaged (I had to give in at 50%, compulsive need to have them shiny) that you can't really argue with giving a Crafter a decent reward. I see folk mentioning having issues getting repairs, but if you put up a decent reward, even the most AFK person is drawn back to the keyboard to help you out *grins*
I generally offer 3k-4k for <R30 repairs and up to 7k for a repair after that, more if I want it done quickly. With something with an obscure repair item like my Disabling Baghnakhs I tend to keep a small supply of the repair material on me. That's not an item I expect people to just have laying around so I just provide it.
