Garuda has no qualms with Oschon

So I was looking at the new page on the official website concerning the Ixal when I had a complete and utter WTF moment...

You know that could easy be explain by they raid a gridania camp or small army and took there weps and stuff. Just because there smart and are beastmen does not mean they are blacksmith that could make that type of wep for themselfs.

I could be wrong could be something else but that make the most sense with the small information we have on ffxiv lore.

I'm willing to bet it's a mild oversight on the part of the battle team. Either that or it's an oversight on the Ixal's part.

I must admit I've always been intrigued that Ralgr's description matches Ramuh's pretty closely.

Check out the Amal'ja they have a symbol on their staff too seems to be a wave with a stroke upwards? or something like that its a bit less well defined.

Edit: Maybe it's Naldthal? seems to be the closest fit, a circular symbol with a wave through it.

Do you have a pic? The images on the Amalj'aa section feature weapons marked with the Amalj'aa symbol, namely that spear.

iT's in the picture of the two Amalj'aa. It doesn't come out so well because of how small the waves are on the staff/scepter/jewel but it does look like a wave pattern and the jewel itself could represent the circular line around the wave that Naldthal's symbol is. Or it may be that it's only one of the two brother's symbol on the jewel? or i could be making something from something hardly legible lol.

I wonder what these all represent. I don't think I've seen them before.

Surely no one is suggesting that the primals are actually the Twelve but in a more corrupted/insane/savage state... right? That maybe through some mix-up in history/theology that we are in fact followers of the same entities the beastman tribes are and that might be why Ifrit makes a statement about us following another primal (when in fact to us it would be one of the Twelve).

mumble... amal'jaa and kobold symbols aren't of the twelve... and were already in 1.0... but Ixal symbols... O__O what the hell means? :O

Maybe stolen staff :/ (just a casual that deity are wind?)

maybe the symbols belong to some sort of puzzle related to the primals they represent the primals element in a similar way.

No idea! I was just trying to prevent the thread from being derailed by misinterpreting beastmen flags and weapon DATs. I have absolutely no idea why the Ixal would have what are seemingly Sharlayan staffs marked with what are undoubtably symbols of the Twelve. Even if the Ixal didn't know, you'd think Garuda would be pissed.

Ah, thanks Moose. I never played on MRD, but I'm pretty sure that Axes were large, two-handed weapons. How in the world are the Kobolds able to wield them one-handedly, then? Maybe I'm thinking about it too much.

Whats more the Ixal seem the least compatible with an old tidbit i remember reading that the Beastmen were once friendly and welcome in the city states but were kicked out when the Garleans started their war. Maybe that was just Uldah. Back to the staff maybe those dirty rats have been making clink clink behind our backs...

Mumble... Ixal and Amal'jaa have some contacts with Eorzean... (like Main Story Line 1.0 where we have to speak with them for getting some shard to share with all)... So maybe we gifted them with the staffs of Oschon and Llymlaen (wind deity)

Or like moose say... they have stolen from Sharlayans, but still don't know what mean that symbols..

So for the info we have only Ixal using Staffs with Twelve's Symbols.. maybe there is a lore behind this and will be in 2.0 XD

They're short, but they're jacked. Low center of gravity and beefy arms go a long way, I guess.

I think it might just be Ul'dah. Goblins and qiqirn are seen openly in Lominsa and sylphs are in Gridana all the time. The Ixal have been the enemy of Gridania for much longer. When digging for the year of the Lominsan echoes, I realized that most of the changes we see in the beastmen aren't a result of the summoning but the worship. The sylphs words of warning about summoning must primarily just be about demeanor.

From what I can gather, the Ixal were feathered and friendly long ago, but worship of Garuda led them astray from the wood's balance. She gave them the ability to thrive so unchecked that they were banished from the wood and, over time, this dependence on her took a sinister turn; they lost their feathers and flight capabilities over the generations. This might possibly have been a ploy from Garuda all along: giving them enough assistance for them to worship and depend on her, and then slowly degrading them in a way that they don't suspect she's the cause, thus making them even more likely to worship in hopes that she'd make them whole again. Either way, this desire to return to the skies makes them invent the dirigible a hundred and fifty years ago.

The Ixal have been the enemy of the Elementals, and thus the enemy of Gridania for a very, very long time. They didn't didn't get this paranoid, crazed, and violent until summoning her to this physical realm.

The two possibilities I can see for how they got them are

(A) We gave them for trade, which seems like something stupid we'd do. "Here are the weapons you wanted. Also, I wonder if you have a moment to talk about your personal relationship with The Twelve, our lords and saviors. Come back to the light, my children."

OR

(B) They stole them from Hamlet raids. As Catapult pointed out, they've been in like this since at least the Hyrstmill defenses of 1.X (nice catch, btw), which means that they might not even be Sharlayan at all. Maybe Louisoix picked up a new weapon when he got here. Maybe the style is much older. Who knows.

Whatever the case, I doubt they made them. And I still don't understand why they'd still have them. Garuda threatened to disembowel all the things in vengeance for allowing Ifrit to be summoned. I doubt she'd be any kinder to blasphemous symbols in the hands of her followers.

Damn those Qiqirn!

It's possible that the Ixal got the staffs from their victims and reverse-engineered them (... kind of funny to say about a stick). It also might be that the development team decided not to give these beastmen their own weapon designs, and those staffs looked best with the Ixal. Giving them the Wind-deity staffs was simply their way of staying elementally consistent. Would we be more confused if they all held symbols of Nophica, Rhalgr, or....Menphina? I can just imagine the conspiracy theories if they held Menphina, given it depicts Dalamud quite clearly.

If the logic I'm working on is right, the beast tribes are unaware of how much indignation primals hold for living things, in general. It doesn't seem like Garuda was out to help or hurt them specifically, but perform whatever actions will lead to them being more likely to depend on, worship, and provide aether to her alone and remain entirely submissive. The wind giveth and the wind taketh away.

Maybe the lack of the Elemental's presence is to blame for the loss of their feathers? I wonder if there was a simillar tradition like the Padjal with the Ixali.

If they did steal them from Hamlet raids, then wouldn't we be more likely to see the Ixal wielding weapons marked with the members of the twelve more popularly worshiped in Gridania? I'd feel better about it if they were waving Nophica-staves around instead.

It does feel weird that they'd happen to steal only the wind-aligned weapons... or maybe Yrusama was on the right track.

Llymlaen is the patron deity of Limsa, which certainly does have a high enough Qiqirn population to add some credence to that theory, though.

It was mentioned in the Nym thread. Immemorial like amnesia (that was mine) and there was how it maybe a reference to "The secret of Nihm". Which is about a city of rats if i remember rightly.

I literally just watched that movie yesterday with my daughters; I'd only read the book (Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH) as a child and loved it. Didn't like the film. One bit. :(

Further supporting the notion that Garuda could care less about the Ixal. I'm sure whatever staffs they carry matter very little to her. She also seems like the type to take any crystals to sustain herself, but as long as the Ixal give them willingly she can spare their lives...

And yet, ironically, her summoning has still had a profound impact on their lives. While they may not have grown feathered wings, their dirgibles are now equipped with a powerful gem known as a "Garuda's eye" that allows these craft to fly against the wind currents, vastly increasing their mobility.
