I thought 8's system was cool. But I always celebrate when SE does something different in the FF series. Evolution is a good thing.
Useless thread.
I really liked VIII's junction system, it was a nice fresh take on bettering your stats.
That's not to say it'd fit in XIV, I really don't think those mechanics would work in what's being planned.
I thought it was really cool
I don't even know why do you think they would add this in FFXIV...
I liked Final Fantasy VIII's draw system.
I do not even know why this thread was proposed.. :|
I think drawing magic sucked. One time I forgot to draw carbuncle. pissed me off.
The problem with VIII wasn't the draw system, not at all. It's so easy to get spells in that game that you don't even need to draw anything except GF.
The FFVIII Junction System allowed for the most in depth character optimization of any Final Fantasy. The only two things that have to be done to make it Casual Friendly are: Increase the Rate of Drawing Spells and Prevent Stats from lowering as spells are cast by Locking in the Bonus given at Spell Junctioning until the user removes that specific spell from the junction.
well using some spells that would lower you stats when you use them could have been a good idea but the stats changed too slowly ( 1 / 100 by spell used ) and we couldn't get them back after the fight or after a while , Golden sun and the djinn system was a lot like FF8 system but better
Customize is a bit of a joke considering you just boosted every single stat by X amount...or you didn't have enough and in the end only boosted it by Y instead. "Optimize" is rendered completely pointless since, as with almost every other game in the series, eventually you're just hitting everything for 9999 (multiple times or otherwise) anyway.
I don't see how that's supposed to be a good thing.
There is a big difference between grinding your characters to level 99 so you can walk through the final fight and Creating a Full party of Characters that are immune to all Status Effects, absorbs all Elements, and have every stat capped at closer to level 50.
It adds depth to the summons instead of making them just an egregiously over powered special attack.
Enough of this shenanigans. This idea has already been borrowed, but I want the devs to revamp and improve Materia. I feel so far its just in ffxiv in name. You can buy high level materia, or place your bet in luck, which is kind of lame in my opinion.
I want Materia to gain experience, and grow while I have them equipped. I want to find rare materia just like the good old days.
I'm sorry. Would you like me to show you my Locke Cole with 4 times the speed of any of my other party members? You can manipulate stats rather effectively in FFVI, but it involves either learning all spells on all characters first, or locking certain Espers. VIII gives more immediate control of stats, if that's what you mean. The fact is you CAN swap Espers around in VI, and it was a smoother system because you weren't totally nerfed by removing them. I would rather not have to reconfigure all my magic junction if I accidentally removed 1 GF.
@OP: I doubt they'd add something like that. The Draw system to me is basically designed around the idea of MP syphon. We'll see MP drain abilities, I'm sure, but nothing that quantifies magic the way Draw does. I liked the draw system, but thought it was overkill when they tied it to your stats. And summon junctions? What makes you think they'd do that when they've already told us how SMN will work?
Amen. I'd also like the next FF do a battle system with some player control included instead of these XII and XIII games that seem to have fun all by themselves.
As a gamer I feel left out watching the characters backflip and spellcast the enemies into a pulp while I'm drinking coffee and waiting for the moment when button presses will be required. I literally leveled through XII with my left foot while studying for exams.
XII was pretty awesome because of the deep gambit system at the very least, compared to XIII where you characters just do whatever they want and you have no control over them except for their jobs. XII took on the offline but online feel kind of game and without the gambit system you would've been screwed in a game that isn't a turn based system.
Bring Back Chocobo Catcher from FFX everyone loved that so much....
Having been on a personal mission to play every single-player FF, in order, one per month, this year, I just recently finished VIII (currently on IX!). I can say that the Junction system was alright, but the Draw system aspect sucked. I'd run across an enemy, or even a boss, and end up spending 15+ minutes just drawing to 100 on my characters. It interrupted the flow of the game, in my opinion. Just my two cents, though.
"Hey guys, I'll be ready to raid in 3 hours. Yeah... yeah I know, the respawn time on this draw point sucks :/"
Or if you prefer the "Pimp my Ride" analogy...
"Yo dawg, I herd you like spells right? So we put stats on your spells so you have to keep your spells while you raise your stats... Wait, you wanted to actually cast your spells? Dawg... "
Yeah, no dice on the draw system >.>
