Can we have "Beast Tribes" back

Beast Tribes was perfectly honorable name to call them with.

Euphemism treadmill happening in fantasy game is weird thing to observe, when it's actually real world seeping into Eorzea.

Allied Societies is ugly language. Please make them Beast Tribes again.

"Please let me use Eorzean slurs"

It wasn't dropped due to being a possible in-universe slur as more just being completely redundant in EW with the likes of the Omicronions who are of course robots, and the Arkskadora who are basically just another race of humanoid people (at least they're considered that way in Thavnair), to use just two examples.

So 'beast tribe' was no longer relevant at all, and another term needed to be used. (And if we're really going to be pendantic, the very term 'beast tribe' was a legacy of FFXI where the term 'beastman' came from, and there the beast tribes were certainly not friendly, save for the odd goblin or qiqirn here or there).

I just wish the English localizers would have picked something that rolled off the tongue better.

"Beast Tribes". Two syllables, succinct.
"Allied Societies". Six syllables, trying too hard.

I'd be more accepting of the change if they just called them "communities" or something.

Seems a little ‘anti-woke’ to run around calling Pelupelu beastmen lol

OP has not played Endwalker patches, I guess. Or ShB base game (dwarves). Or DT, at all. Or anything in this game tbh.

Beast Tribes wouldn't really fit them anymore... But I do think they should have just kept them as Tribes.

I always had felt it was an offensive thing to call them, given how smart they come across when we get to know them. But that was always the story - that they were dismissed as beasts by people.

It did start to get odd when dwarfs were beasts but I'm alright with that, because they're lalafells and it was fun that they were categorized as being lesser. :D

I think it made sense to change it to tribal since not all of them are beast-like, but society fits better. I just missed the part where they announced changing it to society, because it seemed a much more subtle change than when they announced them being tribal quests.

Can see the reasoning but it sounds and looks absolutely stilted as a feature name, no doubt. I can see why it rubs people the wrong way.

Culture Quests? Kindred Quests? Diplomatic Delves? There has to be something that feels better to say, surely? XD

They were renamed in Japanese too, and I'd assume the other languages. It might sound ridiculous but
it would also be pretty funny to change it for a third time.

Friendly Clan/Tribe or.
Allied Clan/Tribe

Not a lot better, but I wouldn't exactly mind.

The intermediate step before the current mouthful was Tribal Quests. That worked fine. I assume someone got a bug up their butt about the word "tribe".

This is correct, if anyone is curious to the source of this, it's from Encyclopedia Eorzea II, to quote the relevant part:

Seeker miqo'tes and Xaela au ras organize themselves into tibes, so surely being part of tribe isn't problem.

Also, I made observation: "Beast Tribes" are gone from auto-translate, while being the word they are called by before Endwalker.
But "beastman" is still there.

Agreed. I still call them beast tribes just because it's less of a mouthful to say, and because of built up habits, but 'Kindred Quests' I probably wouldn't have minded swapping to. 'Allied Societies' is just... too long. Too stiff. It's correct, but I'm not gonna say "hold one, let me turn in my ALLIED SOCIETY QUESTS before we go into raid"

Why does this even matter?

Also as others said most of the more recent ones aren't even beasts at this point.

I like the sound of Allied Clan or Tribe.

It made sense to stop calling them Beast Tribes because after a while they weren't entirely comprised of beastmen. As well, a lot of them were no longer "small side branch of race that worships a Primal" which is something that was also heavily tied to Beast Tribes for a long time. Even as far back as Heavensward you had the Moogles where the Primal worshippers made up a minority of their race (instead of being the majority), and in Stormblood no Namazu worshiped any Primal that I was aware of.

By Shadowbringers not only was Primal worship not present on the First, but Dwarves weren't "beastmen" at all, they were just that world's version of Lalafell. I'm not wholly familiar with Endwalker and Dawntrail Allied Societies, but people have mentioned that Omicron and Pelupelu aren't beastmen, and I don't know if Primal worship is even an issue anymore.

I'll admit that "Allied Societies" isn't the most amazing sounding name, but it's still more accurate then calling them Beast Tribes anymore.

the original JP term they had, 蛮族, directly translates to Barbarian so there's that for why they changed it

I like the sound of Kindred Quests/Clans suggested before. One can comfortably shorten it to just Kindred in casual conversation and it gets the meaning across easily. Allied Society Quests is just too long!

Then a change definitely was in order - calling high tech robots from a star far far away "barbarians" sounds wild.
Apart from that, I don't care how they're named - I go there, do my three quests, and am done for the day.

tbf changing the term because the beast tribes went from hated enemies a lot of people dont know much about to allied folks we trade and work together with is absolutely something communities would do.

The more important issue is that the tribe quests are very, very boring. At no point do they require you to think about anything, overcome any sort of challenge, or use any amount of skill. It's just mindless busy work. It would be nice if they could find ways to make them at least a little more interesting. Perhaps there could be an optional daily "expert challenge" quest in addition to the others with much more strict requirements for success which awards some extra rep/currency.

I just call them "Fixers" and their quests are "gigs".

It wasn't really even the Primal worshiping that was the problem, it was the tempering from said Primals. Because as part of the tempering, they kept wanting to keep summoning the primal to temper more people which was somewhat of a problem to the rest of the world. Which is kind one of reasons why they became the "beast tribes" to begin with.

I simply deplore the fact that we live in a Society.

While I wouldn't exactly call the tribes we now deal with "beastly" or anything, I wouldn't mind a return to form. Having more aggressive but spoken mobs out there that would be more akin to the old beast tribes. The world is dangerous, let us negotiate and parley that danger again.

That too, a lot of these societies used to be feared and hated for their tempered populations which lead to these disparaging terms relating them to "beasts" being thrown around. But I don't think tempering is even an issue anymore by Dawntrail? (Post-Shadowbringers quests made a big deal about their being a possible "cure" now and showcased some examples of it working.)
