They already said jumping wouldn't be a battle mechanic.
I know they said this BUT!!! Least have it for 1 battle. Even if that battle ends up being some way a platformer.
It be nice to see a small change in gameplay.
Ifrit had Cracks
Garuda had Rocks
Titan has Platforms
Levathian has making area smaller
Siren has spots you need to stand in that appear at random
It might not be jump but float!
This will never happen, just saying.
Jumping to avoid a quake attack huh...how very nuance.
don't make my fights more complicate by adding lul jump
I'd rather WHM just get the float spell.
NO
that is all
I'm for this, because I'd like for it to have some use besides hopping over fences.
Keep jumping for exploration (not necessarily major platform hopping either), add float for quake.
Let me jump for joy
Jumping to avoid a shock wave mechanic is too complicated? *shrug*
We all saw the gameplay video. The battle mechanics are completely different now (not as dreadfully slow and clumsy as the current version.) That dragoon was back peddling and moving on a dime, and his attack animations where very quick. That kind of game play allows for fights where timing is key, and the mechanic suggested by the OP is such a mechanic.
Probably won't happen any time soon (or ever), but I am sure as the game gets older (ARR of course) the dev team may very well explore different possibilities.
Edit: wanted to add a suggestion
Consider multiple fighting surfaces for a Titan fight. Each platform adjusts when Titan stomps (which has to be jumped to avoid IF your on his platform at the time). He can also cause tremors inflicting dot like damage forcing players to quickly move to another safe platform. Players who are not paying attention can get trapped on a lower level with too much of a difference between platform elevations to jump up causing the WHM's to have to heal through the tremor dot or just let the player die.
Just thought I would share that XD
Float only for titan fight, no bunny hopping.
Wait what? I never mentioned anything about Garuda or its difficulty. In fact this thread has nothing to do with it.
I was making a suggestion. You know, submitting an idea and adding to the discussion. Your response to the OP was simply no, why, because its "lul" and would make your fight(s) harder. Nobody is saying apply jump to Ifrit, Garuda, and every other fight in FFXIV existence. This topic is about one fight.
So you dropped your two cents, and I dropped mine. The difference here is that I thought I would add to the discussion. Other's have put forward ideas too (I like the float spell suggestion), maybe you should check if they downed Garuda too just make sure hm? If they did it's a legit suggestion right?
Not trying to bite your head off or anything but I don't need to have full accomplishments cleared in this game to make a suggestion or share an idea. Yea, your right, I haven't stepped foot in Garuda (hard).
Get off your high horse.
Jumping during quake? You do it wrong.
The summoner summon a big table and then the party members use /sit (or /pray) under the table.
Nope, GW2 actually agrees with her assesment.
Because you know, when they developed GW2 the entire platforming thing was part of the concept, so it was implemented in it's creation.
It seems to me like XIV won't have platforming as part of the concept, implementing it would cause all sorts of issues. Mostly due to the controls being unsuited for that effect.
After watching the gameplay video the controls and movement for ARR seem carbon copy of the mmo "standards," WoW, Rift, GW2 being examples of that standard.
You have a point though. Games not created from the base up with jumping mechanics in mind should probably not try and shove them into their game as an after thought. My impression though is that ARR is a game re-built from the ground up. The jumping in the video doesn't seem tacked on at all.
Float spell is fine for multiple quake attacks with long recast timer, but for 1 single fight forum does put alot of hate on the jump subject.
No thank you...
Oh yes. They float. They all float.

It depends on how good the jumping is. Is there latency? Is it good for platforming? Can you control your jumps or are the jumps limited to the direction + the jump button? Honestly, it sounds fun but only when done right. I don't want another AION raid where everyone fails at gliding (double jump by spamming the space bar and seeing if it will work or not) 50 feet up (using an air vent) to dodge a giant explosion and wipes the party. 8 times.
This I see potential in.
I wouldn't use jump to avoid quake, though. Could be used in spots where you NEED to move anyway in order to counter a boss mechanic. Say you're fighting the giant sandworm and he spawns adds that are little larvae that cling to you while putting a DoT effect, and the only way to shake them off is by running around and jumping. Or if Shiva had a mechanic where if you stand still you get stacks of a debuff called Biting Cold that deals Ice damage to you over time and decreases your ice resistance, so you can either run around and constantly reposition or jump in place if you're melee DPS to maximize DPS time on the boss while preventing Biting Cold from stacking on you.
They should add float instead. THAT could be used in who knows how many scenarios, not just combat. It could either be a CON/WHM spell or maybe an Arcanist(or Geomancer) spell.
