I find this kinda hilarious. Did they really not like the fact that top was cleared without healers? And makes me remember when that happened , so many people were like "Oh it's o ly one group..." etc etc

"No, you can't clear our difficult ultimates by just spamming one man army tanks, and we couldn't balance PCT so please don't field more than one kthx".

(Is this mostly because of a certain bloody game breaking tank again?)

Has multiple reasons.

- prevents 2x PCT and/or 2x DRK from being the best choice for damage purposes
- prevents 2x PLD shenanigans with Cover like in the healerless "The Omega Protocol (Ultimate)" or at least I assume so.
- straight up middle finger to Bahamut Ultimate tank-only clears

No fun allowed, it seems :p

My thoughts, too. It just looks bad and feels bad when you see other players trivializing content or roles via gimmicks despite the skill required to beat Ultimates. I’m pretty sure that infamous TOP run was part of what started the “healer strikes,” right?

Yup, rather than addressing the imbalance of PCT and the diminished role of Healers, they're opting for the quick "fix" with this. I can't wait to see non-standard comps get their clears anyways.

not entirely. having aoe healing added to war and mnk helped as well as a lack of healing now a days if you arent stuck with turnips in roulettes

healerless runs is just an indication of the scope of the issue they have developed themselves into.

I don't do ultimates so maybe I don't understand this, but it seems like they're just trying to make every encounter as cookie cutter as possible. "It's our way or the highway." Games used to reward players for novel solutions to overcoming challenges as long as they weren't outright cheating. From a player's perspective it seems like they're saying they're not gonna balance jobs and will instead force players into an "on-rails" experience as much as possible.

This is hilarious. SE guts jobs/job flavor and try to make everything as 'balanced' as possible so everything is 'viable' (aka: optimal) for all content all in the name of not having to make players play a different job than the one they want . . . and instead for ultimates throw that philosophy out the window? To what end? This just makes this already niche content less appealing to players IMHO.

Why does it look and feel bad? It's completely unrelated to 99.99% of the playerbase. Besides if they worked their asses off to brute force it with a way that pretty much no one does it's only admirable that they clear the fight like that. I don't understand how can people have a negative opinion on it. If anything, it's on the developers lack of testing the fight (evidenced by the amount of auto attack bugs that came with the fight on release particularly in p3 and p5 aswell as the debuff vomit from p3 reaching the UI buff limit and blocking job 2m buffs useless at times with certain party comps) that allowed players to tip toe around the rules of the fight and somehow make it work. It's only natural that you get rewarded for thinking a bit outside of the box no? Well instead what I see is a bunch of people who don't play the fight, complaining and moaning that an Ultimate is clearable without healers therefore healer=useless. Couldn't be further from the truth, specially taking into consideration the average savage raider does not go an entire 120m session without wiping/dying to a random mechanic at least once which is understandable as everyone makes mistakes, we healers still have to work our butts off for everyone that dies here and there and work as a failsafe. The end result was that SQE just made an unncessary adjustment that will kill the Ultimate fights for some of the already low amount of people that do them.

It's also a pride issue. This isn't the first time something like this happened. We had what happened back in second coil where it was better to only have 1 tank than 2 in t8 and t9. We also had the no tank ramuh ex where titan could tank him. In final coil, they made it it so that all fights required a tank swap.

Old ultimates aren’t relevant content and non level cap content is unbalanced to the point that several jobs are straight trash. All this does is make the dev team come across as pathetic petulant poltroons.
Where’s the line - will we be banned from having two dancers in sastasha soon?

Edit: my way or the highway is the last ultimatum they should be issuing to players of their game where one of the chief complaints is stagnancy of combat.

If I were to guess, it would not be to hit on creativity but rather certain practices that take place in older ultimates and how some just buy the glam and bragging right. But then again, I might be completely off.

To me that's what we get for making a big deal and using people who challenged themselves to do Ultimate with an irregular kind of party as a staple of what's wrong with healing. They saw the complaint and decided to take the most obvious course of action, like what did you expect, for them to upheave their healing system within a single patch?

No, it's most certainly pictos fault.

It's pathetic that they'd rather do this than design a fight that requires all roles.

They try to to eliminate any kind of individuality from jobs, they fail and now they force unique party composition but the homogenization still remains. We got the worst of both worlds lol.

It's either that they can't design a fight that actually requires healers(which they could do by just putting in a fatal debuff that requires a healer to cleanse, like UWU) or that they're genuinely so afraid of nerfing PCT that they'd rather add a difficulty-specific mechanical modifier.
