Higher than usual Teleport costs?

I'm finally getting around to leveling DoL/DoH, and as I teleport around Tural doing wingleves, I couldn't help but notice that the Teleport costs are a little... nutty.

Just teleporting from Tuliyollal to Yak T'el is over 1000 gil, which in the past was the price of Teleporting to an entirely different reflection. All this gil just trying to Teleport to a zone with a direct connection to the one I'm coming from. It costs less to Teleport to the edge of the universe and thousands of years into the past than it does to Teleport across this stupid continent.

If these zones are, in truth, malms and malms apart, then the game did an awful job communicating this (outside of Heritage Found, that train really put in some work huh). Looking at a map, Tural looks like it's about as long as the Old World is wide, but... it doesn't feel like it.

Then again, it's probably also my fault for not being in an FC...

Yeah, they have clearly inflated the gil cost for traveling between the latest zones.

There are a couple ways to reduce the teleportation cost but it will require some time and dedication.
If you haven't, send your Adventurer Squadron to do missions that (if successful) grants Priority Aetheryte Pass - Teleport Fee Reduction: 40% Duration: 120m..
And/or do some old Hunts (ARR, HW & SB / Allied Seal & Centurio Seal) to buy Aetheryte Ticket - A free teleport for each ticket.

SB Hunts too for the Centurio seals, and Masked Carnivale(Blue Mage) is also a great way to get allied seals.

I've never touched Blue Mage due to lack of interest for it.
But that's good to know for people who might see that as another option.
Also, nice of you to correct me on where to get required Seals. I forgot that Stormblood also used the Centurion Seals.

You- You guys are paying gil for teleports?

I've noticed this too... Finally I can use my 4 stacks of Aetheryte Tickets I've been hoarding, lol.

I thought that they said they wouldn't make it more than 1000 in and old live letter.

Not saying I can't pay but 2000 is a bit expensive just for tp especially when you tp a lot, even with reduction fee.

I need you all to start doing hunts so you dont have to pay for teleports

I sometimes fly around early zones to collect hunt marks.
But I do somewhat feel a little guilty when coming across A hunts, feeling that I'm "robbing" the experience of lower level players, possibly even new players the experience of fighting them.

So why, I wonder, doesn't all "tiers" of Hunt vendors sell utility items such like the Aetherite Tickets?
Is it to motivate "older" players to go back to older zones?
The experience would still be the same, they kill the A marks in second(s) and then move on.
Not that thrilling honestly.
Maybe a FATE level sync system for A and maybe even S marks could be something to ponder over.

Realistically they were not priced high enough.

The three cities and the zones in between should be twice as expensive as taking the airship. Ishgard should be only slightly more than that. Every place outside, as-the-crow-flies should be more expensive.

Then there is Elpis, The Moon, and the First. Those should actually be SUPER Expensive, but realistically, the game can't do that because it would end up gating players behind doing multiple cheaper teleports and land travel that is just annoying.

The game has chocobo porters and that is what you "should" be using if you don't want the cost of the teleports. You were not really supposed to (even in 1.0) to use teleports as the sole source of travel. In 1.0 there was actually a time cost (Anima) in using teleports, so you could only teleport maybe a few times a day and then you had to walk. If they brought that back in a form that would make sense. It NEVER made sense to charge gil to teleport. It should have always been some kind of ticket mechanic.

I just imagine someone inserting 2000 gil into the aetheryte somewhere and someone else wandering up and going "spare some gil so I can get home?"

I have sitting around 9 stacks worth of tickets. >.>
I don't think anyone will ever need that many, but what do I spend Allied and Centurio seals on when I got everything else?

We need an option to sell tickets on the MB. /s

Just no. Such a system is tedious and annoying. Having to jump through hoops to travel is no fun at all. For those who don’t want to fast travel and have infinite time on their hands, there are alternate ways.

While I can't speak for the EU datacenters, if they're at all similar to NA's hint discords. I can assure no new player is ever touching an A or S rank. They won't be able to kill them without asking for help and the second they flag it people at max level will show up and two shot it. Which speaks to how poorly designed hunts are but the devs still seemingly believe 4-8 people are pulling an A/S like as though it's a mini boss.

IDK how hunts are organised on other DCs.

On EU - the hunt marks are posted on a Discord server. People wait about 5 minutes for people to get there and get themselves into parties, then it's pulled and killed. You can start participating in S rank hunts from 50+, no problem. As long as you hit it once before it dies, you get full rewards.

Because if the newer hunts sold the tickets, I would be doing getting 20 tickets from each expansion every week off of just the weekly hunt marks. They implemented the Sack of Nuts currency specifically to prevent this, as they want teleports to act as a gil sink. That doesn't work when you're getting 100s of free teleport tickets every week. As it is now you can still get 60 tickets every week from weekly hunts, which is more than enough for most players. If you do old A and S Ranks as well, you can get even more.

I set my homepoint to tuliyollal, then when I want to return to it, I just swap to blue mage and use self-destruct. While it does apply the "brush with death" debuff on you, you can just get rid of that by unsyching and going into a dungeon like satasha, then immediately leaving.

As for teleporting away from tuliyollal, lots of teleport tickets from stuff like blue mage content and hunts.

It actually does after the calamity, the fees are payed to Lolorito or some other of that Uldah lala for repairing the network and using it - basically its a service fee.

We can teleport because we basically have unlimited Anima now, i think there were some quests/cutscenes that mentioned others cant teleport that far... which they pretty much threw overboard with the Sharlayan -> Thavnair teleport lol


So yeah the service fee makes sense, but it should really have some limits. like Ultima thule, the first or teleports within the first... i mean, technically id say the first and elpis actually go Mor dhona -> tower -> first -> actual destination but still... thats no explanation for tural or the moon, or UT....

I just refer to their slides they showed at the beginning of the game. "Fun comes first. If it's not fun, why do it?" And paying thousands of Gil to teleport, while lore accurate, ISN'T FUN.

even if you don't want to do Hunt trains for free teleports, can still do the weekly B rank hunts, for ARR, HW and Stormblood, to buy 60 tickets a week.

If you're teleporting more than 60 times a week, can modify it so you only use ticket if teleport costs more than an amount you want to set.

In recent interview, Yoshi mentioned keeping costs up in higher level areas, to help take gil out of the economy, to keep pressure to use gil sellers down, especially for new players.

That's just the thing. If we -really- wanted a Lore reason for "Gil" to teleport currency, the lore reason should be that "gil is aether infused to prevent counterfeiting" and thus you "burn" gil to teleport. But then you need the logic of how much gil is burned base don distance, and suddenly things fly out the window when you consider Elpis (time travel), Anywhere in the first from the source and vice versa (reflection travel, something that YOU can do but no NPC can), Ultima Thule (travel of a distance that is incalculable since no distance is ever said, but surely it's more than 10 planets away and much farther than the moon since you needed a dang space ship.)

So realistically, New Gridania to Ul'dah by chocobo should cost 100gil, by airship 200gil and by teleport 400gil. Limsa Lominsa should be more expensive because there is no land-route, instead there is an land+ferry route. So the land+ferry route realistically should be slightly less as the airship cost, since there would normally be a ferry cost, you can't walk to Limsa from the port in Thanaland.

Then you have the rest of the world which mostly doesn't have airship landings. Radz-at-Han and Kugane have airship landings. Teleporting to Kugane should cost twice as much as it would to airship there.

The point I was making was that, the way teleportation was designed, was not to be used to "jump to every timed mining node", it was designed to basically go from Thanaland/Gridania to La Noscea during a time before Chocobos were available. There were a lot more field aetherytes ("Aetherial Gate") then too. The Aetherial Gate could be used for free for all gates controlled by the Grand Company.

You see where I'm going here right? Original intent of PvP was likely going to result in "control" of these gates changing. Who knows if that was actually on the table or just an excuse to get people to join the GC earlier. But since the gates no longer exist, and are largely replaced with the chocobo porters, would it not have made more sense to just go to the chocobo porter and make that "fast travel" too?

You have to balance between "what is lore accurate" and "what is fun" in some places because otherwise you start being laughed at for trying to be "too realistic" in a game that Hildibrand and "Greg" exist in. So what would have been the right solution would have been to implement all aetheryte teleportation except between Limsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah as tickets, and teleportation between the three city states (+Ishgard once the player has finished HW and +The Ala Mhigan Quarter once StormBlood is cleared) to be free once you join a GC. That way it doesn't matter how far away the destination is. Once you're in a certain area, then the teleport costs are free if you're in that GC (three city states) to the surrounding 1-50 areas they control. Mor Dhona is free from the three cities during post ARR, not available during HW, and then free again post-HW from Ishgard and the three cities.
