Give SCH Energy Siphon

Please make Energy Drain useful in casual content as using it on a single target during trash pulls is a waste. Energy Drain needs to change to AoE or give it an AoE option in the form of Energy Siphon like Summoners have. Using aetherflow on any healing abilities these days is a waste with how OP tanks are with self-sustain.

In my opinion this has been long overdue since every other healer's damaging abilities/Spell outside their 1 button spam and DoT, They all do AoE. I know we are finally getting our first AoE damage ability in the form of Baneful Impact but this is not enough to compensate for everyone else's crazy additions. Spreading our dots with Deployment tactics is a must, again this does not affect any high end content as they all consist of single target bosses. If I am to deal with this boring gameplay in boss fight at least let me dominate the AoE department during Trash mobs.

I agree with this. Emergency and Deployment Tactics doesn't have any other use outside of Adlo and Succor. Why not trait it up for it to be usable, offensively via Biolysis. While we're at it, i would gladly trade Ruin 2 for Shadowflare, in GCD form, and add a trait to Art of War where it changes to Art of War II when Shadowflare is present making its effect pulse from Shadowflare's AoE, acting like DRK's Salt and Darkness.

Honestly I'd take replacing art of war with bane or miasma I really don't like that ability.

As a Scholar main from Stormblood I love miasma, shadowflare, and bane as much as the next. But let's look at reality here, its less than a month till DT we aren't getting these back anytime soon. All I'm saying is give us a little change to existing skills that don't affect any end game or previous ultimates that could tip the scales in scholars favour. This is a reasonable request, even if increasing potency of other healers AoE skills make it fair than so be it.

Totally agree! Scholar deserves an ApE upgrade to Energy Drain!

Honestly whether it’s AoE or not I’d love to see a visual upgrade for Energy Drain to something more exciting lol. Also maybe rename it, since it barely actually drains HP anyway (I don’t think anyone has ever use the skill for HP restoration lol). It made sense before when it drained MP, but it just feels so weird having the tacked-on ‘drains HP but actually doesn’t because the value is so low you may as well have done nothing’
Idk I just don’t like when they add effects to skill that have no actual reason to exist (anymore) lol

I disagree,

I think EW SCH is in a great state, while I too think the ACn jobs going back to DoT managing etc. and some of the previous iterations would be cool af. SCH is in a rly good place rn and I think Emergency Tactics, Deployment Tactics, Energy Drain etc. are all abilities that work in both fun/interesting and functionally useful, and healthy ways!

But ofc. just adding my 2p not saying YOUR OPINION IS WRONG RAHHHH or anything xD x

It is fine to think differently but your opinion does not address the reason against giving energy drain aoe. It's practically harmless, only benefits causal play.

I mean DT SCH is a healer, it’s an overpowered healer but it’s a healer which by default limits how well it can be designed

Is broil and AOW spam really the be all end all of SCH design

Someone said it before that Energy Drain should upgrade into Bane and spread our Dot. Bane did cost an Aetherflow charge at one point so this wouldn't be a new thing at all. It would just make Energy Drain more useful in AOE.

In my opinion, there's too many abilities fighting for AF already when Emergency/Deployment Tactics are only utilized by Adlo and Succor. Should the Tactics abilities are traited, allowing it to interact with our DoT, we technically added 2 more abilities in our arsenal without increasing the number of actions SCH has, and Energy Drain can evolve to Energy Siphon just fine.

Edit.. Ruin 2 can also retire to make room for either Miasma 2 or Shadowflare (GCD)

It's actually possible to design a no Energy Drain SCH but it would require a rework to the job..

It also requires renaming it to Sage.

For real though, keep energy drain. It's a nice optimization tool for when nothing is happening.

They actually already did that in Stormblood 4.0. I kept running out of mana during Savage raid if I used one too many Succors or raised a party member that died. They gave Energy Drain back in patch 4.05.

I didn't have mana issues when they removed energy drain and utilizing your aetherflow was a lot more fun, just like with sage. My problem with energy drain is it's not interesting, theres no choice to be made since healing is so mapped and the biggest of all is that aetherflow has been stuck in the same state since stormblood because of energy drain's existence. Once ED is removed AF can actually be expanded upon again.

Granted, fairy gauge/aether pact probably needs to be addressed before that ever happens

I misremembered. They removed Energy Drain at 5.0 patch. Then they put it back in patch 5.05.

The problem with removing Energy Drain, was that there was nothing to use it on. You just dumped it into Sacred Soil or dumped it into Lustrate if Sacred Soil was on CD. Instead of damage and MP restoration, you just spend Aetherflow on overhealing.

My point still stands about 4.0 SCH and their MP economy though. These are the thought players had at the time for Stormblood.

Make Dissipation into an Actual DPS/Healing tool you cowards!

With Seraphism added, Dissipation could easily become a 2minute Aetherflow empowering tool! Makes all Aetherflow actions stronger by 50% for 20s, gives you 20% healing magic potency, 3stacks of AF and dismisses the fairy.

I'd be okay with just the AoE falloff component added to ED.

I really hate when there's an action that is almost a carbon copy of something just turned AoE. To me it's just a bloaty way to fill action bar space.

Give it an upgrade at level 30 to energy bane and have it spread the dots around and do a little direct damage

Inb4 they remove Energy Drain for the 50th time.

The problem is they removed energy drain without adjusting the boss encounters and raid damage to account for such a change. IIRC it was reverted before savage came out anyways so the fights we were dumping soil and lustrate on was extreme titania. It would have been a good change if the damage output was such higher. Since using lustrate and soil is much more fun than using energy drain. Especially since the MP concerns were fixed regardless of ED, as ED no longer gives mp back anyways. Obviously some people want sch to stay the way it has been since stormblood forever, but I hope we can remove ED (or untie to aetherflow) and actually make aetherflow interesting instead.

Aetherflow is interesting precisely because it has an opportunity cost, not despite it. Go play sage if you want to not have the option.

If they're doing job identities, as promised, I would like SCH to be the healer with the most opportunity costs attached to its kit.

opportunity cost is meaningless in a game where every gcd is precisely mapped out.

"GCD" doing a lot of heavy lifting there when you are in fact talking about an oGCD that is clearly, definitely not precisely mapped out except in a hypothetical ideal run.

They're also mapped out. You do the exact same thing on every run of a fight. Theres so little variance in encounters. you see a mechanic twice and you already know whether you can afford to ED or not. It's not exactly thought-provoking.

I 100% agree. AoE drop off is nicer as it doesnt add a new button
