No no, it's Rise OVER Run; and other Math you get wrong. [VERY Strong Opinion; Bozja]

Good evening, want a 'Too Long; Didn't Read'?

TL;DR;Edited Edition: Unless you're a Diehard FFXII fan, don't bother with Bozja. FFXIV struggles with understanding Pacing and Difficulty, likely brought on by the Marketing dept (get them Game Time Dolla's!). It was enough to get me to stop gaming for the time it took to join this forum, and complain about it. Don't Bother with Bozja.


Welcome friends! If the Title or TL;DR didn't prepare you for this next bit, you've likely never been to Bozja. Now, I should preface this with two things, first by saying that I've been told that despite the "difficulty" with Bozja, it's not the Worst. At the moment, anyway. But if you've ever been unfortunate enough to find out about Bozja by scrolling through your Achievements, and seeing a certain, beautiful, unique, and apparently impossible to acquire mount.. you might be just like me, and just as angry.

When you think about difficulty in videogames, what do you picture? Do you think about Increased Health? Damage? Mechanics, maybe? Perhaps a little bit of stress from surprises? A lack of repetition? Perhaps a little chaos?! How about this, when you think 'Difficult', do you think 'Time'? Because if you do, you're likely Square Enix. Difficulty, it seems, is a mystery best held in awe and wonder; er, to them, anyway..

If you have no frame of reference, let me bring you up to speed. Let's assume you want the Al'iklil: You need just 50 Field Records in total. That's it! 50 Simple drops. These are not obtained from one place, Bozja, but rather many. You need just 50 records, quick and easy right? What's 50 records? 50 records, is:

#1. Grinding Mettle to Rank 25 (Millions. Literal millions of Mettle, btw).

#2. Grinding the First (for Bozja) FATE-Dungeon, an instanced.. er, instance, which requires waiting for it to proc (minimum 30m), before pairing with a random number of other players who may or may not know the fights, in an odd-number group formation of multiple groups of players of any composition.

#3. Grinding Lost Finds: Imagine Loot Boxes, but imagine about 30 different kinds, of all different ranks and types, all offering random loot that can only be used in Bozja (Zadnor, Lacus Litore, etc.), which gives random amounts of uses you won't see until you use them. That's basically the jist of it, you grind, you get paid, you ask an NPC to Lootbox your abilities, that if you're not using on the regular, you're basically failing.

#4. Grinding Specific FATEs: Oh, you know, just your standard waiting for an hour for the FATE GCD to finish, then starting the first FATE, then the next.. then the next... Then you get your FATE! ..But Hark! What's that.. it's... not a guaranteed drop? Nope, not even on days of your best performance. Get that Gold Rank, my friend? Try it 20 more times, don't worry: you still won't get it. Why? Well..

#5. Grinding Specific DUELS: If you thought you were Hot Stuff, could kick it with the baddest, and Solo Delubrum like a champ? You'll be crying Tears of Blood over Bozja Duels. Why? Because not only do you have to do #4 each and every time, but to qualify, you need to take no damage from Named Attacks & AOEs, nail every mechanic every time, and do more damage/healing than everyone else, while also helping anyone you can out, because people can join from anywhere, suddenly spiking difficulty, whilst not guaranteeing that the people who joined will stay to finish. Then you have to ready yourself for battle (1-3 players max, I think) using every one of your best Essences. You get two abilities, Maximum, and then you can only have as many essences as you have unlocked the Potency to carry. Now comes the actual hard part: A knockdown, drag-out war of attrition, against a single overpowered opponent that you have to learn as you go (without YouTube, let's exclude "cheating" for a second). The only time you get practice with said fight, is if: you wait an hour, complete at least two FATEs, complete the last FATE with Impossible Aplomb, get chosen at random over everyone else (unless you solo it, then nevermind ever getting it [see below]), then you have to do more waiting, then fight. Oh! But don't make a single mistake! You won't make it. Full. Gods damned. Stop.). Why would you do this? Guaranteed drop rate on the Field Record. Well, that and so you can tell everyone you don't have a Job (I actually don't at the moment, department was dissolved..).

#6. Grinding Quest Records: You can't complete Bozja, without completing Bojza. I mean, that's a bit of a duh, but I mean that you have to complete the entire story for all the Records available. I like this, to be fair, but that still means Rank 25; at Rank 19 I need 11M+ Mettle, to give you an idea of what the numbers start to look like.

SURPRISE #7 from Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, you die? You lose Mettle. You release? You lose a LOT of Mettle. Oh, and yes, you can die, be raised, immediately killed again by coincidence, and STILL LOSE METTLE. Failure isn't just failure, it's Punished. Any trolls nearby? How about a Sage that "rescues" you into an AOE? That's lost Mettle..


What does all this equate to? Difficulty- in the form of Time Gating. Who says it's impossible to finish a duel? I do. I watched one person in my server Grind out FATEs for Three Days Straight, and every time I watched him fight, he failed. It wouldn't be terribly difficult, in fact- it'd be fun... ! If it didn't take 72 Hours to practice one fight, just a handful of times, and still not beat it. I've bothered, I've tried desperately, but to no avail. Want an Example? 'Murder Death Kill'

In the 3rd zone of Bozja, you can spawn a FATE called 'Murder Death Kill'. If you want to earn a place in a Duel, this is likely going to be one of your first. Why? Easy fight. It drops one AOE at a time, and is very generous with the time to dodge. Why is this a problem? I've solo'd it no less than five times, and four of those runs I never got hit by any AOE, no named attacks hit, no damage under half my health, and nailed it Solo. Never qualfied for the Duel. Not. One. Time. Put this in perspective: That's no less than 7 hours dedicated to getting only 1 Field Record; I still don't have it.

Solo? Maybe you can do it. Solo Sage? Apparently not. I main Sage and I feel like an idiot, having never qualified a single time for any Duel. Now imagine competing for the right against players with decades of experience. Difficult? No. Just time consuming, frustrating, and frankly unfair. Side note: You can grind to 25, grind up a bunch of Lost Finds of the best kind, and jump in at the ground level to qualify against complete newbies. Just fyi. If you're Alone..: You're probably not getting anywhere. You can do much and more solo in Bozja, heck- I prefer it at times. But there's more you can't do alone*. If you want it done, you need to look for outside help. Not the worst, but just an expansion behind, and you already can't assume people are doing some High-Difficulty content for the giggles.. or the mount for that matter.

So what about all this preamble? To point out that, you can make anything difficult, but just pumping in a whole bunch of time in-between player efforts, does not a Difficulty make. You obviously tried to pander to the Dark Souls and Elden Ring players of the world, but you forgot to remove the 1-2 hour cooldown. So now you have Final Elden Soul by Square Enix: Time-Gate Edition.

If you want an idea of just how bad griding FATEs is in Bozja? I have only 20 total records to get from the first part, I have 18; I've already received three local achievements for FATEs alone, a fourth for Delubrum, most of Delubrum finished, Lacus Litore Memorized to the letter, Rank 21 Mettle, a whole set of Bozja gear, half a set of Law's Order, I'm getting close to capping several Lost Finds, and the only thing I've been doing since I started over 100+ hours ago? Grinding for these Records.


Time =/= Difficulty. Time is not a currency, and punishing players for playing just leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. You can probably tell I'm VERY sour about this, but- that's just it, everyone I speak to says much the same thing as I do: "I JUST need One. More. [Record. But I've done this fight X number of times, and it never drops! How long until 'Y' is back up? An hour? Gods, I wish I could queue for other things while waiting. Guess I'm done for the night; another five fruitless hours of gameplay.."

I will read the whole thing, don't worry, but just to respond to your TL;DR:

My time in Bozja was one of the most fun times I've had in the game, period. Efficiency hardly matters when the content is FUN. Running around collecting goodies while a raid boss pops every few minutes was a great gameplay loop and it absolutely worked for me. This may be a controversial opinion, but Bozja runs miles around Eureka. If you hate Bozja then I suggest staying far, far away from Eureka because it's worse in every way possible. Bozja was a massive improvement, and I hope they go further in that direction in Endwalker.

EDIT: Okay I've read your post, and this is what I have to say:

I do think there is some validity to nerfing the time-gated mechanics in Bozja, simply because the content is older now. However, I don't think it's likely they'll do that since they still haven't nerfed Eureka in that way (strictly in terms of how long things take to spawn).

In my opinion, clearing the CE's without taking any damage in order to fight the 1v1 duel, and then clearing that duel, is one of the best feeling sensations FFXIV has ever had (and may ever have). Nothing compares to conquering a savage-level fight all on your own while dozens of people cheer you on on the sidelines. Yes, it takes a mastery of the mechanics, and you need to be hyperfocused, but that just makes it all the more rewarding.

And about the mount you're trying to get. There are some mounts in the game that take hundreds of hours to obtain. I should know because I'm currently trying to unlock every mount in the game. Al Iklil (or however it's spelled) isn't the worst. Yes, it's incredibly frustrating to rely on the RNG from the FATEs that drop the notes you need, but that's all the more reason to study up and conquer the 1v1 duels!

So, I will accept that Bozja isn't for everyone. But it's the effort you put in that makes the rewards feel so much more worth it. If you don't have the time for that, then fair enough (although I had a full-time job the entire time I progressed through Bozja/Zadnor/SaveTheQueen, and I have obtained every single achievement you can obtain from it). But it's certainly doable if you're willing to put in the time and appreciate the content for what it is.

With what I was read, and frankly TOLD, I really hope that isn't the case. I asked around a lot, and despite still needing record #11, I was told MDK procs a Duel.

.. so maybe add 'Bad Actors' to the number of reason Bozja should prrooooooobably still be in the hands of the Empire.

I really appreciate the engagement and view you're bringing, btw, that does help put it into perspective for me a little. But I will say, that regardless of time, difficulty isn't exclusive to this. I won't beat this point, as you already agree, but I can see S.E. doing more of the same in the Future. It's the same, understandable, practice that other MMO's hold to: Grindy Content at the end of the Expansion; buy enough time to make the next one. Makes perfect sense to me (sort of)! The problem is that they lock exclusive content behind difficult things that some people will never experience or even begin to try for. WoW overcame this issue in a bit of a cheap, but effective way: Aesthetic Scaling. "You want this mount? Here it is, in all it's boring glory. Want the Majestic Member of Brilliance and Fun Times? Earn it, scrub." They basically took a basic mount, and made it fancy. This gave a clear indication of who was the brain addled- err, who had the dedication and time to invest in the hard stuff, while not snuffing the folks on the casual side. You know, like most of my IRL friends. Gamers all, but not everyone get's [expletive left out] over Elden Souls game difficulties. You want hard? Talk to me after you've played Toy Story on Sega with no Save Files.

This? Just time gating difficult content:
Players: "We want more difficult content!"
S.E.: "... ... ...Fine. But first, you'll start by waiting an hour for a timer to expire..."

I'm used to earning my way, I relish challenges in ways many others don't; IRL, at least. Hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding without elbow pads, that sort of thing. But ask me to beat my head against the desk with repeatedly attempting the same fight X number of times, but force an hour and a half in-between chances with no way to queue for other things (LIKE GRINDING PEDIGREE 9 CHOCOBOS- WHY, SQUARE, WHY IS EVERYTHING INSTANCED?!), and suddenly it's a costly chore with only 1 Reward. Only one. Just that and bragging rights. It's just too much..


EDIT: I wasn't calling anyone brain addled, I just can't wrap my tiny brain around spending more than 10 hours on a mount. I'm spending precious life time on this, I wants me a return! X3

I mean Bozja is my favorite content to do with good lost skill set and essence you can be a one man army it got a pretty good story too it finish on a cliffhanger so I hope we get to see more in DT. it is a big grind but that was the funniest grind I had in the game just me alone in my bubble with some random for instence with my lost actions to survive and do a lot of damage and just having a plain battlefield ready for you to burn it down to the ground I honestly could have not ask for better content than that. I did it for the thrill of it for the glory of it not for the mount or the relic

BY THE BY, A STORY:

I began my foray into Zone Three of Bozja as everyone likely does, by hitting up the Lost Finds cache. I fill up my holster with my Healing Ready One loadout, get comfy, and take a look at the map. A quick scroll, a scan.. a FATE! Wrong one, guh.. twenty seemingly short minutes later, however, and there it is! Murder. Death. Kill.' My fate! Number Eleven on the Records, here I come! I roared past hordes of Magitek and Gators on my Garlond GL-II, rushing over the wetlands toward my destination.

But- Hark! There are others awaiting to start.. I begin to shower my impromptu comrades with Shields and Barriers galore, a Kardion on myself (without a party), and a thrush of boons from the Finds. I re-raise myself for good fortune, and get ready. Holding fast upon the edge of the interaction, we waited a breath, before someone asked if we were waiting on more. There were none who spoke, none who joined. So I elected to pull, and pull did I ever! I felt like being hit by a truck, because 'lo and behold, the FATE Scaled. Ah, this isn't looking so goo- * DIES *

Huh? I wait for my re-raise, but to no avail. Alas, that abhorrent 30%.. But, why did the FATE just reset? Did I lag? No.. no, I didn't. There they are, just standing there, staring at my corpse. But wait! They just jumped in, all I must needs do is simply await a resurrection... Though, I see that the boss is getting low.. A Red mage just stepped on me. Oh! The White Mage I saw.. just stepped on me. Okay, okay, maybe my Bright Red Corpse is a little hard to see in the moment. Ah well. There's always another two hours in the future..

Finally, it's dead. The machine is gone, the people are happy, and I still didn't get my notes. Ah! There they go, they've targeted me, and.. they're just leaving. They Scaled the boss and let me drop, refused to raise me, and now are leaving. Uh, okay, ahem: "Rez if available at MDK, please and thank you!" Such a thing I did shout, asking politely just once more. Ten minutes later, and my chat log makes aspersions on my personal character and fortitude; informing me of the massive amount of Mettle lost to silent cruelty. Mind, there was no requirement, no obligation on any person(s) to allay aid to a fellow Adventurer. But such experiences stay with a person. So does the list of people I've personally blacklisted, people who in 7.0, I will never see or hear from again.

I wish I would feel justified, or even fond, of removing toxic players from the peripherals. Players like Healers who "Rescue" you into failing a qualification, or like those who would trick and watch you die, for their own chance at gain. But the fact of the matter is, I'm still lost on those hours I lose to Bad Actors. Time =/= Difficulty. Difficulty =/= Fun. Fun, much as Beauty, is in the Eye of the Beholder.

Time Gating + Difficulty + Bad Actors + Loot Boxes = A Bad Experience.

As someone who unlocked the mount when Bozja was current content I don't think all these critiques are necessarily wrong but I do think there's some context to the grind that's lost a bit with the time gap: The time gating isn't meant to make the content difficult it's meant to give you a reason to keep going back. One of the consistent complaints I've seen about EW has been the lack of longevity in content like Criterion which is more directly challenging than (most of) Bozja. While SHB was still current Bozja was kind of just a thing to chip away at over time because it was something to do, and having these longer term goals helped with that. Obviously years on when it's less directly relevant that can seem like an unreasonable ask just for a mount but there was design intent behind it.

So I'm going to home in on this bit not as a "you're doing it wrong" but to give some advice: I think you're going about this in the wrong order. Based on this you haven't actually cleared Zadnor yet, presumably because you're trying to unlock the early records before moving on, which isn't an unintuitive approach but is sort of making things harder for yourself. You mention in the first part having to grind "millions of mettle" which is true on paper but sort of not; While the number goes up the relative grind for mettle specifically kind of doesn't if you're going through the content as it was released. When Bozja initially released the rank cap was 15 (only 10 was required to finish the zone, the other 5 were just something to grind out and unlock a few extra fragment appraisals), which is why there's a big jump in mettle requirement after that: you're meant to be gaining those later 10 ranks in Zadnor, and doing skirmishes etc in there will give significantly more Mettle allowing you to cap out a lot faster. This has the additional benefit of letting you trade excess Mettle for "Suns" which are permenant stat boosts active in all Bozjan zones. With that in mind it's generally easier to grind out the Zadnor field notes before the Southern Front ones since you'll a) gain a lot more Mettle and hopefully some buffs to make the Southern Front portion easier and b) make death less painful in general since you're already at max rank (as an aside I do think mettle loss on death scaling with rank does mean dying in Southern Front is extra painful since dying once is liable to cost you significantly more Mettle than you'll get back for clearing whatever it was you died doing).

It's definitely a rough grind especially if you can't clear the duels for whatever reason but it was designed to keep players busy for a 2 year period and the way it's set up does reflect that so all you can really do is persist or move on to something else if you're having that miserable a time with it.

Bozja and the content to it is absolutely fine, I just wish they made it way more relavant to do by eg. upping it to lvl90-100 ish content and for the love of everythign good, no Beastmaster or BluMage in it, as it ruins the goal of the areas of being excelent loot and leveling areas for normal jobs.

I don't get the rant, but again modern people was never brought up with any kind of grind but a silver spoon in the mouth and demanding stuff only and refusing to work on anything.

Losing mettle and the likes, IS NOT punishment, it is a good thing if anything, it make you stay on your toes as well well as giving the reason for people to revive you, its nothing and also don't take on stuff you can't take on, and learn by it, losing mettle increases the skill of the playerbase if anything, as well as the ability to go and help others, by eg. going towards the revive achievements as well.

However, you get millions extremely quickly in the final section of Zadnor. So it's a short farm to get 20 million.

30 minutes is nothing to gamers, but probably is to casual players.

It was always the case that some people didn't know the fight. What was great about these CE raids is they telegraphed everything once with floor aoe indicators, then never again. So you had the opportunity to watch and learn, and if you didn't learn, then it was on you. It set a great balance between telegraphing for casual players, but not over-telegraphing, and also only telegraphing it when it was too late for more obvious stuff so that you could still learn it.

Right, but these are easy to grind and you can get loads from reflect farming or using Lost Death on a boss mob or buying from the Market Board. The specific ones you want come from specific locations so that narrows it down a lot too.

I heard that was an issue for a specific one in the first area, but personally I got lucky and got it easily.

Guess it wasn't an issue for me because others were in the area spawning it constantly. But regardless, you can afk camp until the right ones show up and then do the chain and then wait more. Surely other things you can do like discord or watching netflix or house cleaning.

Mostly pretty easy. I qualified most times. A lot of people didn't and that was part of why I qualified as well. For whatever reason, other people find them hard but I didn't. Maybe I've just played for too many years.

The good thing is they listened to feedback and made it so each time you qualify you increase your notoriety. That wasn't previously the case, so you'd get people qualify 50 times and never get the duel. Now with just 2 or 3 notoriety you're probably above most other challengers.

Well true, it's a bit tedious to do this multiple times and either you have to endure the tedium of that or study via youtube. Blue Mage solo content doesn't have that issue because you can just re-queue immediately. So solo content could be done better but on the other hand, the rarity of the fight makes it a spectacle that others can watch. There would be whole crowds of people around it watching and cheering and they would get a buff for watching. It was actually entertaining to watch.

Challenging content in a video game. There is hardly any of it in FFXIV beside extreme/savage/ultimate which require a party. This is one of the few things we can say people can challenge themselves solo with in this game. It'd be good if we didn't get SE to remove what little challenge there is for solo players.

You know what? Maybe this content is just for people with no job, the self-employed and people who don't occupy most of their after-work time with other activities like relationships, being a parent, or food preparation. Some people just have more time and they need content for themselves as well.

I got all the duel field records by farming CLL and Dalriada. Rare drop, certainly more than 7 hours. I have 22 CLL runs and 31 Dalriada runs on my main character.

Just remember that MMORPGs are historically very time-consuming games, to the point they used to consume your entire life (including time you spend eating, showering and sleeping). This game is a lot better where time is concerned, but it's still an MMORPG and still has a degree of time-consumption in areas because of being based upon old MMORPGs that didn't respect people's time.

/teleport, 12-16-minute dungeon runs, 10-minute trial/raid pulls, cooldown resets on death, teleports back to the boss arena in dungeons, quests only asking you to kill 3 enemies, extreme trials letting you buy a mount after 99 runs. These things respect your time, but there are aspects of the game that are still inspired by older MMORPGs and consume your time and, frankly, some people are bored and want something to consume their time.

Bozja was super fun for me; I still do it on occasion and try to help who I can.
I have run into alot of players who act like there's a meta to the lost actions - like if you don't run x item, they think you're trash type players- and I just pretend we speak different languages and spam bubble lmao

I hope if there's a new "bozja" that they finally introduce Ashelia's outfit

Grinding content is for people who like grinding. Players aren't entitled to every nice looking reward just because they're in the game.
If you do content you don't like just because you want a shiny mount, that's on you. The opposite mentality is why Endwalker relics are a joke.
Bozja is made for players who wanted grind content involving easily and quickly forming groups on the spot organically, with its own unique progression and lasting a whole expansion's life cycle and feel rewarded for enjoying said content. It's also one of the only 2 types of content in the game that gives room for job build customization. That gameplay appeals to a specific audience that very rarely gets anything aimed at them in this game.

The mount and the field notes associated with it are a real slog. I'll take open field notes to Castrum and Dalradia anytime and I have 7 bikes so I know all about it. MDK is hard but it's certainly better than having to run an entire duty or having to go to the trouble of spawning FAF and Steel.

I adore the field zones and am thrilled to hear we're getting them again in DT.

So, just want to point out to some folks who responded here (especially Mx. ElitistQuotesMcGee up there), that all of you are missing a crucial detail:

TIME =/= DIFFICULTY

The people who have been stating their dissenting opinions here, have missed the part where my complaint actually lies. People who want a good challenge is one thing, making someone take that challenge so often that it goes from difficult, to fun, to mildly entertaining, to boring, then to frustrating, is another. When I first tried Lacus Litore, we all failed at Dawon, and never finished. 13 people just couldn't figure it out. But I went back, again and again. Now I know the fights, the turns, the dialogue, how long it takes for people to get from one place to another, I can predict how many prisoners we're going to save at this point, take no major hits from any boss (that was actually a fun run, I get why people go top), and I still don't have the last record I need. At this point it's not gratuitous, it's inane. I will start to resent this content ere long, due in full to the complete lack of any reason to play this particular content beyond getting this one, final, note. That's not as much a grind, as a waste of my time, and a waste of an opportunity to take part in other parts of one of the most expansive MMO's to date. You know, that whole... Exploration thing?

So, sit there, agree with each other about how you think people want handouts, and ignore the conversation at hand. That's your choice, as you "Real Gamers" are very fond of pointing out.

Now, for those of you who actually engaged, thank you. Also a thank you to Hainiryun, both for your advice and prospective! I really feel a little foolish for trying to do it the long way, I guess. I don't typically tend to be so forcibly linear with content, but in this case it's FFXII+, so I wanted to do the thing from the ground to the top. Sounds like this was literally the one time I should've done it my usual way. Ugh.. ah well. I just wish it wasn't lore that was stuck behind such lurid drop rates, well, that and the Al-Iklil. Speaking of! I was in an instance when someone got their last Record- their very last record; in Bozja Southern Front, go figure. They even brought it over to me to show it off (I asked), it's totally worth it in my opinion! Just.. one.. more.. damn.. record.. nhhhhhn...

Sometimes people joined, but not always. Also, sometimes it would put me in an instance solo and this was when it was new. It scales depending on the amount of others doing them. If everyone is in CLL and I'm not, then it's virtually solo content. If everyone is farming mid and I'm north, it's solo content, so I did it a lot. I can't think of any Skirmish I did more in Bozja tbh. I probably only did the Zadnor last area as much.

I've got a couple of friends and know several other players with the mount. They didn't have a problem putting in the work needed to get it. Most of them did (or still) enjoy Bozja as content.

The mount might have been fun to have but I hate Bozja myself and don't feel any reward is doing content I don't like. No loss, I've got other mounts I like.

Take a good long look at your own signature. Is having the mount that important to you? Then put in the effort required. If others have done it, so can you. If it's not that important, then move on and don't waste time bashing content that others do enjoy.

Anyway Bozja is MMO content. When I was farming the notes I never once thought it was boring or that the hours spent were "fruitless", because there were other players to talk to. The grind was fun because it made the MMO actually feel like an MMO.

Feels like this needs to be further addressed, because.. yeah. Regularly spawning skirmishes don't lead to duels. Critical Engagements (the ones you have to register for, the ones with a confined arena) spawn duels. And said Critical Engagements are themselves spawned by specific skirmishes, which are themselves only spawned by chain killing Garlean troops in their respective regions.

And, technically speaking, none of the duels are truly required to collect all notes. The duel notes are also available from the respective final instances (Castrum and Dalriada), albeit at a very low drop rate. I wouldn't exactly bank on them ever actually dropping.. but if duels just aren't for you..

Much like any of the other high-end hard fight content, it's always wise to do your research. Going in blind is always an option, sure, but it's only going to result in.. well, this. At least here you can watch others try and fail and maybe learn from their mistakes, but it's still a lot to process.

Also, in addition to the advice of Zadnor being for mettle farming, you'll also just plain want/need to progress simply for more Lost Actions, many of which can be quite useful in making the duels just a little bit easier.

For absolute clarity, MDK drops dabog's note at a pretty low drop rate. The Gabriel duel with the guaranteed drop is from doing vigil for the lost without vuln stacks.

I do think there is some validity to nerfing the time-gated mechanics in Bozja, simply because the content is older now. However, I don't think it's likely they'll do that since they still haven't nerfed Eureka in that way (strictly in terms of how long things take to spawn).

In my opinion, clearing the CE's without taking any damage in order to fight the 1v1 duel, and then clearing that duel, is one of the best feeling sensations FFXIV has ever had (and may ever have). Nothing compares to conquering a savage-level fight all on your own while dozens of people cheer you on on the sidelines. Yes, it takes a mastery of the mechanics, and you need to be hyperfocused, but that just makes it all the more rewarding.

And about the mount you're trying to get. There are some mounts in the game that take hundreds of hours to obtain. I should know because I'm currently trying to unlock every mount in the game. Al Iklil (or however it's spelled) isn't the worst. Yes, it's incredibly frustrating to rely on the RNG from the FATEs that drop the notes you need, but that's all the more reason to study up and conquer the 1v1 duels!

So, I will accept that Bozja isn't for everyone. But it's the effort you put in that makes the rewards feel so much more worth it. If you don't have the time for that, then fair enough (although I had a full-time job the entire time I progressed through Bozja/Zadnor/SaveTheQueen, and I have obtained every single achievement you can obtain from it). But it's certainly doable if you're willing to put in the time and appreciate the content for what it is.

Easiest solution: Allow BLU in the old outdated content it was meant to be played in (to include POTD, HoH, Eureka, Bozja etc etc)

I can understand some aspects are frustrating when playing it now, but this doesn't mean the content is trash and horrible and all the bad things and would deserve geting shot in a dark alley just because you don't like it. Especially considering it wasn't originally designed to be binged like this and finished in a week, rather the exact opposite. It was a thing to keep people busy during the patches and as wobbly as the definition is, also falling into the range of "midcore" content, so not really a thing for everyone to begin with. It is this kind of content I am absolutely missing in this patch cycle and hope I'll see it again in Dawntrail, because it was really fun for me to do when Shadowbringers was current content. You are saying you have to be unemployed and no life or whatever to like this and manage to do this, but this is completely missing the point of why Bozja exists. It can be managed with a life quite well, you just have to have the desire to work towards a goal in this game in these three years or what between expansions when nothing else meets your fancy like this.

It is not designed to be finished in three days, nor is it designed to be an easy casual walk, why would you even expect it to be nerfed so much it would be possible to do so?
Should they adjust a few things futher to account for less people playing it nowadays? Yeah maybe. The devs need to adjust it to make it a bit less time consuming to account for things. They already added an absurdly strong echo to the three big duties and made it so you don't need 24 people for DR anymore, that was nice. (They could've cut short the queue timer a bit, waiting 10 minutes extra when you already got your group in party finder is kinda annoying.) Maybe they could improve the spawn rate of the duels or detach them from other FATEs and just add them to the normal spawn cycle like all others. However, considering the amount of midcore content in this game is already really really small, with a ton of extreme, savage and ultimate content on one side and all the story dungeons and normal modes of things on the other, I would very much be opposed to having the fights themselves nerfed into oblivion just so people can farm this in three days and be done with it. (Variant Dungeons and Criterion Dungeons were supposed to be midcore, but only Variant is. Some experienced raiders I know compared some fights in Criterion to Savage and Ultimates... Thanks for nothing, CBU3.)

You have so so so many other types of content that is easier to do, can be easer done now with unsynced modes and what not. Please let us midcore players have this and accept some content might need more time and effort or is simply not for you and that's okay. Plenty of content in this game is not for me either, so what. (I actually don't have all field notes either, I was busy getting stuff for multiple relics together back then and now, and this patch cycle I focused on Eureka, crafting/gathering and replaying the MSQ with alts. :D Still on my bucket list though.)

First of all Ilkil is meant to be a mount for people that wants to farm. It's like the Amaro mount, the TT card, mount, the Ozma mount, the freaking pterodactyl mount or any savage mount. They're meant to be reward for that go deep into the game. It's a reward not meant for casual players, but for people that like farming. Bozja is meant to be content for more classical MMO players, relatively long farm that meant to be retaining content that wants to play a long time. (And FFXIV farm isn't that long anyway, anyone that played a korean mmo will tell you that). Bozja Zadnor is only a 10 to 15 hours if you focus on the storyline. You don't want to involve yourself more, fine, but stop wanting to get everything given to you, because that ruining the game for other people. Because the lack of that kind of content is exactly what lead to the "nothing to do"/"relics suck" complaints in EW.


Now about your points

1 > getting 25 mil mettle is not that long. in zadnor, that about 4 hours of following the train.
2 > I'm kinda with you on people often not knowing the fight, that might be frustrating.
3 > at this point there are dozen a guides to tell you which is what, and most of lost fragment can be bought with bozja crystal, or on the market board. In a normal play, you'll basically need 2 or 3 actions and essences per class (get that to 4 or 5 counting DR). The rest is optional. You want to have them all? Most of the fragment can give you 2 or 3 different essences or actions. Those who can give more are drop like fly. You can buy 5 or 6 of each of them for cheap, and get your whole library unlocked.
4 > Once again farm for people who like that, for people who want to engage with the game on the long run.
5 > NONE of duel is mandatory for the field notes. There a few specific note (#14 for sure, I think #11 is somewhere there too) that are easier to get on a duel than in a CE, and need some kind of drop rate boost (I mean not 14 has a very low drop rate on a CE that's activated with the fate that spawn once every blue moon, it's the worst of time combination + abysmal droprate). But even there, those duels are easily cheesable. And once again, it's meant to be farm for people that want to engage with the game on the long run.
6 > wait, is that a "you have to complete the story to finish the story" complain. I'm not sure I get what this is about.
7 > I can see how this one is frustrating. It's something from old mmo, where you lost Xp when you died (but you also could lvl down, which we don't have here, and that's a good thing). But IIRC, you don't lose xp when you're rezed by someone. Just shout, and most of the time, someone will come and rez you. Fates are not that hard (even red chocobo), it's mostly a consequence of point 2, and then 10 people needing to do the job on a Fates scale for 30, because all the other died because they could not read the fight.

I agree with you Time=/=difficulty. But that's the thing, bozja is not meant to be hard. It's meant to be more classical mmo content, that asks a lot of farming. It's meant to be waiting content for people that engage with the game a lot between patches. I can understand how it's frustrating for some player, but some people really enjoy that, and it's important to have. It sure could be more satisfying, but needing less time to achieve is not the solution. I mean look at the backlash on EW relics. It's not even about the relics themselves, it's about this content being the retaining content for people that want to engage more deeply with the game.

I've farmed bozja like hell, I really liked it. and it kinda annoys me when people want to streamline the experience because it ask too much engagement for them. FFXIV is full of content that doesn't need much engagement, that's one time and never again. it's like 80 to 90% of the FFXIV content. So please, if you don't like that, just don't engage with it, but leave it to people that enjoy that. It's not a problem if you don't have all the mount. I mean Pterodactyl or the bicolor gemstone mount (the one that aske for something like 3500 fates) are too much grind for me. I feel they're just not worth my time and just didn't try to get them (and it's from someone who would love the pterodactyl).

It asks too much of you, just leave it. It's just a game, and there are tons of other content in the game that don't ask you that much engagement.

Rotation B. Half-rotation, Dodge. Icarus. Phlegma. Toxicon. Dodge. Rotation A...'

I do apologize if I'm taking a moral dump on people's chosen content, if doing the same thing 1000 times for no tangible reward is your thing? Baller. You do you. But at least World of Warcraft (something I'm loathe to credit) did one thing right: Aesthetic Scaling, as previously mentioned. Cheap and dirty, everyone a little unhappy, but still a solid solution. Want to do the same instance so many times that you start having nightmares over it? Go for it. Don't lock lore behind it, don't lock exclusives. Just wait for Square Enix's NFT content, boy won't folks love that. Maybe they'll let you set your computers up to do the Minin- excuse me, Grinding for you!

Handout? Try suffering a major Heart Attack up in the mountains, mid-quarter at College, having to still work and finish a full course load and full-time work (workstudy gives no benefits), and still finishing the year out on a 4.0, 4.0, and 3.8 (missed turning in an assignment while in the Hospital, fair right?), & only 3 days off to for recovery; ongoing 8 years later. I don't give up or go easy, you all just think other people do because you like the grindy content and we don't. C'est la vie. But some of us don't exactly have a lot of time to waste. Take a look at Eureka, so many people want stuff from it, but their complaints are all the same: "Why does this outmoded content still take so long? I just want to enjoy the story, and maybe get a relic transmog." When will they nerf Eureka? It's not just Bozja, it's not just Me, and it's not for want of handouts.

My points included:

1. You get millions of experience points in Zadnor.
2. That learning a fight is part of the point of the content and that not all content is meant to be as easy as a dungeon.
3. That players with more time feel bored in Endwalker and would have loved a Bozja-like content that sap their time like this.
4. The point that things need to be earned sometimes, like the duel, by doing mechanics flawlessly.

Part of the point in this game is being able to say you earned things, such as relic weapons or rare mounts.

• When people see someone with an old relic weapon, they think "oh it took a lot of time and effort to get that, I know how much work they put in". But when they see someone with a Hilidibrand relic, they don't really think that at all, because it involves less time and effort - just dumping tomestones they got anyway and clicking a quest.
• When people see the tiger, triceratops or victor mounts from hunts they think that involved a lot of time and effort - months of grinding and respect the effort. Same for the mentor roulette mount, which involves 2,000 mentor roulettes.
• When people see ultimate weapons, they think that involved a lot of time and effort progging the fight and coming close to beating it many times.

To me and to a lot of people, that is one of the things that is fun about an MMORPG. That you can show off what you worked hard to earn.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like RNG like that really. It made me put off a similar area, Eureka, where after years of trying for 3-hour sessions, I couldn't even land a random chance at a random chance to get the drop I wanted. I had to buy the items that had too low drop rates.

I preferred the Bozja cluster system, where at least my grind was fixed and able to be planned, and I didn't feel like I was wasting my time. That said, if the grind is fixed ie. 107 is how much it takes for everyone, then that would be fine, as long as each of them is contributing to it, such as by dropping a currency or increasing an achievement.

Grinding the gemstone mount has been like that with Chi and Daivadipa. You virtually have to do them 582 times to get 500 vouchers. I'm almost half-way there.

It actually did get a lot of nerfs, both while current and after. It's just that these nerfs were more to travel, experience gain, NM spawn rates and included significant buffs to elemental power and other methods to gain exp like the challenge log. I don't personally find the loot RNG fun in Pagos so I wouldn't mind that being improved a bit, but in terms of leveling through for the story, it is once again meant to be content for people who want a lot of their time occupied and zooming through it would defeat the point of it.

Yup. There's nothing wrong with a small grind, but like... some of these grinds definitely reach extremes.

It's not just you, don't worry. But you'll find that these forums are heavily biased toward players who enjoy a long grind, that's all.

I've had similar arguments in the past around how I find Bozja and Eureka insufferable, and got much the same responses. Try not to take it personally, people enjoy what they enjoy.

Just to address these points really, I disagree (barring the skill required for players to clear ultimates, that's definitely respectable).

I don't feel like people are all that impressed by a player who just spent hours upon hours doing something tedious over and over.

I know when I see those things, I feel absolutely nothing at all. I've put the time into getting past relics too, but it was only to see the side quest storyline mostly, and I definitely don't plan on doing more weapons. They just sit there in my armoury doing nothing.

At best you'll have a friend give your a /congratulations emote and never bring it up again.

I'm totally okay if they separate the lores written in today's field notes (say, lets you read the field note after you clear their Skirmish/CE/Duel/Raid), but stick the mount on something else that also requires today's grinding.

I wish the duels are more prog friendly, though. Say, maybe let up to 3 challenger to try. Or if you failed once, you'll unlock a mock battle to practice elsewhere.

It's not just you, don't worry. But you'll find that these forums are heavily biased toward players who enjoy a long grind, that's all.

I've had similar arguments in the past around how I find Bozja and Eureka insufferable, and got much the same responses. Try not to take it personally, people enjoy what they enjoy.

Gobs, yeah.. I like a challenge, I like a little time for anticipation, but when I can start to recite quotes from L.L. like it's Main Scenario Roulette, that's a Grindy Meatball.

I think I definitely see what you're talking about, and yeah I really didn't know what I was getting myself into in this forum. Thankfully I'm not too bothered by it, and certainly not by dissenting opinions, I just wish everyone brought something constructive; those few outliers are disappointing, and I shouldn't be engaging them. =/

But, for all that, I'm enjoying Bozja's overall content and can't wait to see what happens next. I'm totes not Rank 25 yet, but will be soooooooon! I switched to Zadnor on advice I received here, hooboy did that get so much easier. Lacus Litore is missing the Mettle Matonga that Zadnor FATEs bring. Wow- so much faster!
