How do you guys think SE will accommodate more account/ wide features since Blizzcon?

Bugger it didn't put it, but I said DC wide.

If you haven't seen it, Blizzcon was just this past weekend, and with it, they unveiled a plethora of features that will be accessible to all of your characters. After years of complaints and criticisms, they have seemingly solved a lot of the really big issues of alts within World of Warcraft. With features like cross realm guilds and cross realm mythic raiding, transmog(glamour) restrictions being lifted(all classes can wear all armor), cross realm grouping, account unlocks galore, and etc.

While in this game, none of those features exist. Sure, we have cross realm link shells and communities, but they are limited to your DC.

I think going forward, we need something. Because at this rate, World of Warcraft is looking far, far more appealing. We have worse flying now, glamour systems, free companies, endgame progression(I would imagine it's still an rng clown fiesta, but accessibility is why I said it cross realm mythic raiding etc.), and casual progression since it sounds like Wow is actually making criterion the right way, storage systems, and much more.

I'm not here to say x game is better than x game. I'm really not, but this is an arms race, and Blizzard just showed their hand.

And even if they don't go the alt route, give us cross data center Party Finder and cross datacenter Duty Finder and cross datacenter Free Companies. Give us more than what we have.

The ball is in your court SE. I'm just saying.

There will eventually be a point where they have to acknowledge that change, and additions, and updates to features need to happen. Whether that happens sooner, or 4+ years from now, is beyond me. I just want them to understand that XIV, post Endwalker, is now in a position of extreme scrutiny. Experimentation is a risk, I get that, but they've had 10+ years of gameplay and ideas to drawn upon, plus a previous MMO to take inspiration from, which they have done, and seems are doing again. I hope they come up with something and not just adhere to the status quo.

That said, it'd be nice if aether current unlocks were account-wide (among many things).

Also, even just cross DC stuff in general. Yeah, we can travel, but not being able to just do it from a player perspective feels bad. In Wow, my buddy can just invite me to a group and queue for dungeons without having to queue for either server. And while I understand that it's probably a server issue, I just think there has to be some way if that's what the cloud datacenter is going to be for then perfect. It's just what I've described you could do in Wow 10 years ago. I just think the speed at which SE is going with improvements on the technical end has been extremely slow, and more often, then not the fix is some convaluted way to do it. I'm not a tech guy, so who knows. I just hope they stop dragging their feet.

We still have single character mounts and glams which is making them big bucks as a lot of people have alts

so they'll pretty much do nothing as it's a good money machine.

Also cross DC party finder and duty finder should have been in the game a long time ago, no idea why it isnt, dc travel through regions as well.

This is false. They are simply allowing any class to obtain the transmogs for other classes:

Transmogrification Collection: This system will expand to allow players on one character to add additional class specific items that they can’t equip to their transmog collection. This allows a player on a mage character to collect a warrior item and be able to add it to the transmog collection for use on your warrior character instead.

And we already have most of what you listed regarding cross realm.

Every day that passes I hear more about these WoW improvements makes me consider trying it again more and more. And not even just for the things it does, or will do, better than XIV. When Legion launched, some friends convinced me to play. Everything was on sale, so I dove in and boosted a character. I was always just a casual WoW player, barely even dipped my toes in before that, but running around the Legion zones with a couple of friends on a pvp server just doing the story content was, without sarcasm, the most fun I've had in an MMO.

I doubt I'll ever "drop" XIV, or even entertain the idea, I just like this game too much. But at this rate, I'll probably end up trying WoW again in the wait before Dawntrail, and I wonder if I'll want to keep playing it. I just want XIV to grab me again, but to do that, I feel like they need to shake things up.

Ah, ok. That's what I heard from the grape vine. I already considered Wow's system better anyway so I didn't jump into seeing the particulars of it. Thanks for clarification.

Bahahahahahah. Seriously as a Dynamis player my queues are dead. I have to logout of the game right click my character navigate to the datacenter I want wait in a queue for it to put me there and then queue. In Wow I can just queue. And that's not getting into cross realm raiding/guilds etc. It's not even remotely the same.

I have felt that cross-world FCs are a next logical step for quite some time, but when the Community Finder released, I noticed they display cross-world linkshells as if they are the cross-world FCs. It's not quite the same, but similar I guess since chat is a main aspect of FCs. You can also join cross-world linkshells on other data centers that you visit.

The truth is though, that this isn't a major issue in FFXIV. Almost every FC that exists has a discord server and because of how the majority of FFXIV players are casual, discord actually works better for them because they can communicate with their FC while playing other games or at work. The discord aspect of FFXIV is so massive that it allows many people to get alerts for events across data centers and it is just not really a major problem.

Almost the only people who actually use an FC chat instead of discord are the hardcore players, who login all the time. To get social interaction in the actual game you have to seek out and find actual hardcore players, amongst the huge sea of casual players.

I am actually sure that this is on their mind, especially now they are looking deeper into using cloud servers. But I think it will take them time because that's how these things are. Let's see where we are with these suggestions in the final patch of Dawntrail. We may have them already by then or they may be announced around then. Let's see.

I really don't think SE cares about whatever other games are doing. The game is still profitable, and XIV is still considered to be the best or second best MMO out there. There's not really any motivation for them to do anything.

There's a lot of things I want, including the list provided, but I don't think SE will deliver.

A few, such as raid loot splits, helping people with clears on raid alts, RP alts, extra retainers without paying, selling items on other worlds, playing in other region's data centers, but these are all very niche reasons that don't apply to the majory of people.

I'd be happy if their cosmetic rewards/unlocks start at Level 1, which is often not the case.

While I do think XIV could use some changes to make it more alt-friendly and some sort of solution for everyone gathering on a single DC that won't hurt the community at large and something a bit more with glamour, I don't see the issue if XIV doesn't do some other things that WoW is doing. I'd rather XIV stick to its own identity and implement things that make sense or in ways that make sense. It's okay if WoW is more appealing to some because then XIV will appeal to others. All MMOs don't have to be the same.

Another good point. The way things are set up can affect what a game truly needs. In WoW, you can only be a single class. If you want to try anything else, you need an alt. Here we can be all classes on the same character. There are good reasons to have alts and this game can be unfriendly to the idea, but it does have that key difference with WoW.

For the OP:

It only took 20 years for Blizzard to start providing all of those new features mentioned. That, and a change in ownership. Whether World of Warcraft lives up to expectations or not is entirely up to their new Masters: Microsoft.

And Microsoft is making it easier to run this game on their Console, so ... both of them will make money for the company now.

It's genuinely great that WoW is making these changes because it will light a fire under SE's butt. It's very hard to ignore the competition when they keep consistently making changes that your own playerbase has been begging for. Shadowlands was pretty damn poor which likely made them complacent, but Dragonflight was a step up and we can only hope that it keeps going up to make SE sweat and prioritize popular requests like glamour log/glamour lifting.

It's not a priority in the grand scheme of things, but it would be welcome to a lot of people than you think. Making a change that would make both raiders and RPers happy (probably your people who spend the most/play the most) is pretty huge I think. Also, there is probably a lot of regular players who just don't make alts because of the idea of regrinding everything. This is precious player retention and play time they are losing. Altaholic is a term for a reason. I have four alts. I really only need one for split-raiding, but I just simply like alts.

Because beyond these kinds of supplemental features, WoW and FF14 offer fundamentally different experiences. I don't want what WoW is selling, and I do want what FF14 is selling. Tossing features like cross-world guilds and improved glamour systems on WoW doesn't sweeten their deal because to use those systems I would have to play a game I simply don't want to play.

Would things like a better glam system improve FF14? Absolutely! I'd love that, and we players should push for that. Is a game like WoW a great place to get ideas of features we'd like to see in FF14? Heck yeah it is.

But will the disparity between FF14's and WoW's glamour and social systems determine which of these two games I play? Absolutely not.

So go play WoW. SE doesn't have to add those features to XIV. Blizzard finally got off their asses and went to work instead of drinking the employee breast milk? Bravo. I guarantee you whatever they presented was smoke and mirrors. The players will get shafted in the end in some way. You keep believing in that trash company though. They need your dollars. Does it matter? Are you actually going to try to defend Blizzard? The company is a repulsive cesspool. I guess you missed all the big reveals over the last couple years. Pushing an employee to suicide, drinking employee breast milk, cube crawling etc. Lots of acts of perversion that the highest levels of the company were aware of but ignored. Disgusting company. I will never give them a penny. If you want to defend them go for it. I wouldn't give that company a life raft if it was drowning.

As someone currently playing both, this is a very apples to oranges comparison. They are very different games (presumably on the backend as well) and I wouldn't want most of those features in FFXIV.

The "everything is cross everything" stuff works in WoW because that game nuked any sense of community long, long ago. When the world is a glorified CoD lobby, sure, connect everything, who cares. One aspect that drew me to FFXIV initially was that server communities were still a thing and I would hate to see it go down the same road as WoW.

The Warband functionality is great for WoW, but there's little reason to make an alt in the first place in FFXIV since you can do everything on the same character. It would be nice for those that do, sure, but it's not the very pressing issue that it is in WoW.

FFXIV glam working like WoW transmog would be great, but Yoship has already explained in detail why that isn't possible for the time being from a technical perspective. That's probably something they return to once in a while behind the scenes to see if they can make it work.

Dragonriding is obnoxious so I can't say I agree with "worse flying."

If WoW is looking "far, far more appealing" to you, it sounds like WoW may be more your bag. Nothing wrong with that. Playing both concurrently certainly cemented that I much prefer FFXIV. I don't think asking one to turn into the other is doing justice to either. People should just play whichever suits their fancy.

Nice attitude. Do you have a similar attitude toward the other companies I mentioned? Will you look at the new MMORPG announced by Riot games, knowing they paid a 10 million dollar fine in California for similar practices? Do you have similar feelings of disgust for the company that owned Call of Duty? [Hint: Activision owned both properties. The "highest levels of the company" was Activision.]

Similar practices appear rampant across the entire gaming industry. Will you stop playing games?

Hatred is such a temporary solution. Changes in management is much better for everyone. And look -- Activision was sold off to another company. Admittedly one that has issues (remember: entire gaming industry), but one that may do better.

No one sane defends Blizzard. If Blizzard says "Yeah, the sky is blue." I'm not going to take an opposing position just to SPITE them. I already am never going to buy another Blizzard product. Obviously, Blizzard is bad, you don't need overdramatic, pointless rhetoric to get that point across, it's right there in the court documentation and their litany of disappointments.

But I'm not gonna plug my ears to objective improvements that are implemented in the general field because, and this may be a shock, bad companies can have good ideas. Good things, regardless of where they are from, should be shared, so standards across the industry are raised. This is a topic about features in a product, not about public relations and human debasement. Rising tide, all boats. To think otherwise, is petty. Software is not a disease or virus. If you mix concepts and take inspirations, it doesn't automatically infect development staff and ruin the entire product.

If I boycott Nestle, do I have to stop drinking water? If I find the practices of Ford immoral, do I have to scrap my own car? If I hate the crunch that developers and artists go through in this corporate nightmare, do I stop enjoying all video games and art? No. You'd cut off your own nose to spite your face.

As I have compared it to before.
It's a Tide that raises all boats.

We can have implementation that benefits not only Multi-Alt(Character Players), but also Single Character Players.

What Do Players with multiple alts do, they play the game far more often than single character players who've had their fill of content on one character.
What does that do to your statistics and Numbers?
It increases the Potential amount of roulettes being filled for sprouts to progress, keeps them running old content for their alts.

While it won't be for everyone, changes in different sectors of the game directed to single character users benefit alt users.

Let's talk Gearing, if Gearing is improved in its rate and way of obtaining gear. Even more so, BiS/Mix and match. Allowing players to gear other jobs easier allows Alts to get geared much faster as well, thus a percentage of the content not only being run more frequently increases.

Could Mention Glamour, but that almost ties into achievements.
With AccWide Achievements and Single character achievements.
Things can be split up in order to incentive players who wish to play more with an alt.
Say Relics being less taxing on an Alt.
<Zetas only Pretty Once.> (Said the Full Zeta)
Which tbh, the large Lifetime Achievements should be accountwide. Like the Hunt, or the excessively huge ones where only a small number will ever achieve.
How glamour fits into all that, is also causing the market place to continue production of old materials, and crafts. as it'll be needed for Glamour Logs/Book interactivity with Dresser/Plate/Armoire.

Other ideas could be implemented, that inadvertently helps both type of players.
[And gives long requested features to be implemented. as a Glamour System Update could affect Genderlocks, or Role Locks.]

But what about MONEY, The Store..,

Well. simple economics, what do shop's and stores do.
What do Manufacturers in reality do.

Sell Bulk in enticing ways, but drain you as much as possible with single servings.
SE will get some value out of it.

If the Mogstore was largely account wide except for the Single Serving items, like dyes/fantasia, I'd probably own the majority of their stock by now.

The mogmail would get flooded?
Who's bright idea was to have it sent via a limited access inventory when they have a perfectly acceptable Calamity Salvager System.
Just have a Similar NPC you have to head to in order to access your purchased goods, doesn't clog the mail for stuff like items between FListed Players, and never fades away from their unlocks.
Like, Idk Quest Rewards, like the customer or special items you can reclaim from the early arr quests, or past role weapons.

Not only helps current shoppers but old shoppers and new ones as well.
(could have a note after/before/during purchase of the locations they can claim their Purchases.)

[Systems change over time, even if it's been past the planned lifetime of a game. They can make changes. if they didn't want another 10 years, we wouldn't be getting a "First Graphical Update"]
As for Pricing, simply have those who learn late that they prefer to have more than one character feel the brunt of it with a slightly costly price. while accwide option is larger but Fire and Forget. We can argue the exact cost til the next 10 years pass. but Accwide should be standard.

Wow and FF14 server infrastructures are not the same. Wows infrastructure is why its able to do some of the things it does. Things FF14 cant do unless it swaps to a similar structure.

Blizzard has to make things account wide because players need to make alts in order to play more than one class. That isn't necessary here.

SE has been chipping away at cross world/data access. They've acknowledged that cross data center PF and Duty Finder are needed but their technology currently doesn't support them but they'll continue to make efforts to find a solution. Data center travel at least helps with some of the problems in the meantime.

Let WoW be WoW. Let FFXIV be FFXIV. If you think WoW is offering you a better game than FFXIV, then you probably should be playing that.

That was the past. Most if not all of those complicit are no longer working for Blizzard, new management has come in and made changes that will hopefully prevent those things from happening again.

Punishing people for the sins committed by others in the past is a poor way to promote change for the better. If you're just going to keep punishing them, there is no reason to change.

If you choose not to do business with Blizzard, do it because you don't enjoy the products they make and not because of what some former employees did years ago.

SE actively profits from the systems being broken or in the state they are currently in, so they have no incentive to fix them or make them better.

Glamour/mounts/etc. being limited to one per character = people buy more stuff from the cash shop.
Broken housing = people forced to stay subscribed (not many how many times YoshiP says to play other games, it's not how this game works if you have a house.)
Inventory management being bad in all the various ways = people buy retainers.

Imo, anything said otherwise for why they can't do something related to these is just an excuse because they don't want to just flat out say it's a business decision. Rightfully so. It'd be a horribly unpopular thing to say.

Honestly, I say it is doing them the opposite. If all the store items were account wide I'd buy the entire store out. Maybe not instantly, but slowly over time for sure. But I just don't see the point of dumping all that money on a character I may just get bored of playing. There's many reasons to want an alt. Maybe I want to play on a totally different region. With my original character stuck owning a home I don't want to abandon entirely. Maybe I want to just "main" a totally new job and get BiS on it alongside my original character. Maybe I just want to clean slate my entire friends list and start new. Maybe I just want to take breaks from playing my original race without messing with fantasias. I can honestly only ever see my character as the original race I made it as... it just never feels right having it as anything else. That's just my personal taste.

Even if you had account wide everything, and a buffed barbershop that let you change EVERY aspect about your character (including gender, only excluding race). You'd STILL have millions of fantasia addicts that swap back and forth over and over. Never underestimate the fantasia addicts. You'd probably have more of a reason to buy boosts since if you make an alt you probably don't want to level the same classes over again. And now you'd have plenty of new toys to share between your alts buying them from the store. They can only profit from loosening up on these things.

As always, it is way too little too late with Blizzard. The trading post being a thing would have been nice the 19 other years I was a diehard subscriber. I'd be rolling in excess currency by now. Their honor system they put in during Legion? Where was that during vanilla, BC, WotLK, cata, MoP, and WoD? Aka the only expansions I gave a damn about PvP in? I'd be honor level 1000+ or whatever by now, but instead I'm like 50 cause who cares about playing in a post MoP pvp balance era? And then there's the transmog system. Another thing way too late. Its all I lived for after like Legion, just doing endless old raids on 12+ alts and watching me get nothing but junk other classes use that I can't learn. How many times did I vendor all this trash that could have been added to my collection instead? They waited way too long for this stuff. WAY too long.

I can only hope and pray FF14 doesn't wait too long themselves. Improving the way we handle glamour storages and more account wide unlocks. Both from the mogstore and earnable in game. If I do a unique accomplishment as a player, I feel like I shouldn't have to do it again. The only thing I ever want to actually willingly repeat are leveling up (or paying for boosts for alts) and upgrading my gear.

From the handful of posts of theirs I've come across before just hitting the big 'ignore' button on them, they seem like the kind of person who's trying to speedrun getting forum banned. Let's all just let that play out, but in their own little corner where they just talk to themselves.

Always thought it'd be nice to choose between account-wide/single-character option while buying stuff from mogstation. Naturally there should be upgrade possibility if you wanna make your single-character purchase into account wide.

Mounts are already account-wide and nice, but it'd be nifty to be able to buy your fav glamour thing for every possible character at once.

I think in order to accomplish this they probably have to kill data centers. The reason I say this is cuz wow once had battlegroups but that has long since been killed and didn't work out. After Battlegrouos I think when they started cross servrt more

Not likely sadly. They've been here since 2013 it seems? Unless this is like a recent mood shift or something, I haven't been on the forums for long. All I know is they're always trying to shut down any and all discussion by telling people that the game is perfect. You could have the tiniest criticism, and they'd tell you it's not valid.

The battlegroups are still there (they're analogous to the logical data centers here). Blizzard had a decade head start on working out how to break down the barriers between all their data centers.

Not that I think time should be an excuse for why we still have the separation here. We know that the FFXIV and WoW devs talk with each other. I would hope that the FFXIV technical team has been able to learn from the WoW technical team experiences.
