Please fix Felicitous Hood Au Ra horn clipping!

I finally got the Felicitous gear from the Island and was really excited to wear the new set. Then was immediately disappointed by the horn on Au Ra clipping straight through the head piece. I'm use to hair clipping and tail clipping but the horn clipping like this is WAY too noticeable to ignore and overlook. The horns should be hidden while wearing the head piece just like they did for the hair.

PS: It clips EVERY Au Ra horn type on every face.

Kinda wierd, I would think it would just remove the horns when you wore it.

Careful what you wish for else you end up with the Viera/Hrothgar solution to dealing with clipping. :(

I do agree though that I wish they would take more care at times. I don't play Au'ra, but I see it a lot with hairstyles. They love high collars and hoods on the back of outfits, but so many hairstyles clip so terribly with them. I can only imagine Au'ra horns are that, but worse. :(

I'm more bothered about how every hood completely hides the hair so you inevitably look like you're wearing a wimple, to be honest.

Everything clips in this game.

SE Tip: Don't look at it.

I don't know why you'd post an eight year old concept art that barely any of the current playerbase remembers in a thread concerning a current and ongoing issue the finished race has just seems really irrelevant.

I'm sorry you're disappointed with the item since I know it took a lot of grinding/effort to get and it's really disappointing how common this exact issue is with most hoods/helmets in this game, it's funny how ear clipping is so not okay for SE with the newer races they disable the item wholesale but is suddenly fine for horns to clip through everything. As a previous poster also mentioned long hair is stated can't be done because clipping but here we have this. I know when I was an au ra I had forward facing horns (face 2) and they literally clipped through every helmet, really discouraging.

It is pretty interesting how derailed this thread is kind of becoming. Especially with all the "just fantasia, easy fix" comments. A meme on here has more upvotes than the actual post suggestion. The atmosphere of the room is kind of confusing to gauge. It's almost like people don't care that the horns are clipping.

Oh I just dont personally care in general for Au Ra. But the clipping is the least of their problems, imagine trying to discuss this with a Hroth or Viera player whom are constantly punished for playing their race by not allowing hats or helms to show up 30% of the time.

Its still bad of course, but honestly I just find it more funny than irritating compared the bs those players have to deal with.

Not to mention the first art they shared is incredibly similar to the au ra we ended up getting. Even the hairstyle and horn shape. Female au ra have a pretty unique niche as the delicate, demure ladies of the XIV races with the large and proud males as a contrast. The second example is far off, but still recognizable in a few of the sketches - particularly the club-shaped ears in the lower middle. Can't wait until we get the female Hrothgar final designs and have to sift through folks complaining about how the concept art was better because it included claws and digitigrade feet or something, two things XIV can't adapt without entering a new Viera/Hrothgar situation with hand and foot gear this time.

To refer to the subject of this thread, yeah, the clipping is pretty atrocious for au ra this time around - especially the fish-horned face. Unfortunately I just can't see them fixing something like this. It's just part of playing an Au ra character. Bangs and hoods often clip with au ra horns.

At this point, they should just remove the horns from beneath the hood like they remove Hroth/Miqo/Viera ears.

Not ideal, but I can't imagine what else they could do to fix it.

I'm going to guess there is some reason they don't just remove the horns in these cases. Maybe it's more complicated and/or they haven't done the necessary work to facilitate covering horns beneath headgear. Au ra horns always just clip directly through which has been among the sorest points of criticism for the dev's insistence throughout 5.0 that Viera simply can't equip the same headgear as everyone else.

Personally... well, it's rather hypothetical in this case because my Au Ra would probably never wear that particular piece, but if he did then I would hate it if his horns completely vanished. They're not going to fit inside it, and they're solid parts of his head that can't just be tucked away out of sight.

The current clipping doesn't look good either, but "just hide the horns" isn't an approach I want them to start taking. It's already frustrating enough that Miqo'te ears get treated so badly with hats.

Unfortunately, the best solution would require a time machine and creative control at SE: at the design stage, Au Ra simply should not have had different horn shapes, just a single consistent placement that could then be worked around with headpieces incorporating them. The customisation setting could have instead been used for a choice of horn ornaments or scale patterns or something.

I really wish the devs would just turn off ears for all head-obscuring gear or make it a toggle command or something. It would immediately solve the Hrothgar/Viera problem and the few other pieces of gear that clip for other races. I literally don't care that it makes no physical sense, I just want to wear hats.

I wonder if it's the placement of their horns. That could cause unique complications. And you're right: if Au Ra horns clip with everything, then why can't they just let Viera ears clip through (most of) the hats and helmets?

Oof. Yeah, that wouldn't be great, removing their unique race parts. I guess this is just a glam option that will be an unfortunate choice for Au Ra (unless you're cool with the strange clipping). It would be super ambitious of the team to give Au Ra unique "horn socks" that match the faces' respective horns, but I know that would take too much time and resources that they'd rather use for other things.

Quality has really gone down, lately, imo. If they don't want to give Miqo'te the ARR treatment with the ear socks, then couldn't they at least let their ears clip? It would have been cute with the street attire hat (but I'm assuming the hat rises too high for it to look natural...?).

I suspect it's not even "overambitious" to have unique versions per horn model, so much as the system isn't even set up to handle it. I assume gear has one model per race-gender model and can't even adjust position per face, leading to oddities like how far out circlets sit particularly on Hrothgar where the heads are different shapes.

But yeah, I don't understand why they don't just have Miqo'te ears visible outside hats more, given that they already have the technology and have used it in the past. It looks cute and avoids the perennial issue that ear socks (where present) rarely actually match their ear shape/size/position.

If my Viera had to lose his ears to wear hats, then I don't want him to wear hats anyway. I already avoid a lot of hats on Miqo'te because they delete ears or handle them badly.

The problem isn't just ears, but hairstyles. For whatever reason – maybe because they originally planned no hats, or maybe some more obscure technical reason – they built Viera hairstyles so they can't "break in half" and hide only the top part, as usually happens when a character has a hat equipped. They can only wear headgear if all or none of the hair is visible, and the ears have nothing directly to do with it.

It's why they're able to wear things like hoods, and why what does and doesn't work is so patchy. They can wear the level 90 reaper hat (bindings cover the hair underneath) but not the level 90 red mage hat, or can wear the hoods from the Rinascita gear series but not the berets.

My sources may be incorrect or suffer from the grapevine or lost in translation effects, but didn't they promise exclusive hairstyles for Viera (and, to an extent, Hrothgar) at first? I wonder if that's why they developed the hair the way they did.

Hopefully, they're able to fix it somehow.

The more skeptical will say he lied, but YoshiP has clarified a few times that the interview where he supposedly said Viera and Hrothgar would get more exclusive-to-them hairstyles was mistranslated. Which, yeah, mistranslation actually happens all the time. Whether he actually said it or not it's pretty clear at this point that it's not happening. Ultimately the reality is players wanted the hairstyles everybody else could obtain as rewards through grindable content or the online shop. They did not actually want hypothetical exclusive hairstyles because not having the same stuff everybody else does sucks. The solution to just give them all the normal default and unlockable hairstyles was the better one in my opinion and is what will probably lead to hats being addressed as well... one day. Like the other poster here said the problem with headgear is actually tied to hairstyles, not how easy it is to shove a pair of ears through the top of a hat.

Yeah, honestly I'm cool with the shared hairstyles. Like you said, hopefully it leads to hats sometime in the future. It's just those exclusive Viera (and Hrothgar?) hairstyles that need fixing!

In the meantime, I'll keep working around the restrictions. ;-;
