Xbox Series X|S Gamepad Type

From the patch notes:

I bought a wireless XBox controller a year ago, and the right analog didn't center properly and was constantly rotating the camera very slowly. Also, R2+L2 and L2+R2 never worked right. When plugged it everything worked fine, so I've left it plugged in

Anyone know if this is a fix for that?

Does your PC detect it as xinput? I had a similar issue with my 8BitDo pro2 controller, until I managed to fix it in xinput mode. You can check what is it detected as with this link https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad

After doing that, however, I had to calibrate the controller in FFXIV settings and haven't had issues since.

I doubt this is a fix for that issue. I expect this is just a UI update to display an image of that particular controller in the configuration menu.

I fix the drift issue on my Xbox X controller using Steam to increase the deadzone on the right stick. As such, I always load the game through Steam. (I generally load every game through Steam to take advantage of its many PC controller issue fixes.)

I'll have to check when I get home. I looked for a new driver and tried to change Windows 10 settings and FFXIV settings, but the calibration was non-existent or didn't do anything. From what I remember, Windows saw it as a different controller between wired/wireless mode

Correct. Windows does treat the Xbox controllers differently when wired/wireless. (Well done Microsoft. FFS) This does cause an Xinput problem as Rehayem says. This is another issue that Steam can correct by emulating an Xbox 360 controller regardless of what type you're actually using.

As a non-Steam user, I guess I'll have to look into a controller emulator

Instructions for anyone that might have a similar issue and want to try it:

• Device Manager (need admin rights)
• Expand "Human Interface Devices"
• Double-click "HID-compliant game controller"
• Update Driver
• Browse for it
• Let Me Pick
• Uncheck "Show Compatible Hardware"
• Microsoft on left menu and Xbox whatever on the right menu (XBox One Elite Wireless Controller seems to work for me, Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox One Wireless Controller did not)
• Next
• Yes I understand this might be bad
• Close stuff and restart computer

Currently Bluetooth: Xbox Controller Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller (STANDARD GAMEPAD Vendor: 045e Product: 0b13)

There are a few options out there. Xinput emulation is a pretty big issue with PS4 and Switch controllers becoming so ubiquitous. That alone may not solve the deadzone issue though.

Unfortunately that problem only happens in FFXIV for me so I can't test out any alternative solutions for you. For now just wait and see what happens after the update.

According to hardwaretester.com it's homing out after spinning the ananlogs around at

Bluetooth:
AXIS 0 -0.00807 AXIS 1 -0.02730 AXIS 2 0.00752 AXIS 3 0.01506

Wired:
AXIS 0 0.00304 AXIS 1 0.01463 AXIS 2 0.00148 AXIS 3 0.01256

Numbers look similar enough, minimum for both around 0.015, so I'm hopeful that it's enough to get rid of the drunk camera motion

Not looking good, disconnect/reconnect and computer restart cause it to show up with issues in Device Manager. This road appears like it will require me to set it up every single time I play

And while irritating to buy an adapter, it does have the benefit of using the lower-latency proprietary protocol so the controller's marginally more responsive.)
