Suggestion: Give Physical Ranged DPS single target mitigation

I think Physical Ranged DPS should have a bit more utility so maybe a single target mitigation would be good. Something similar to Aquaveil, Divine Benison, or Exaltation that they can use on other party members. It can also work as their own personal mitigation.

Dismantle and Tactician/Troubadour/Shield Samba are party-wide mitigations not single target. And I mean adding a single target mitigation to all the Physical Ranged DPS jobs not just 1 job. Even if MCH did have a single target mitigation then BRD and DNC should get it too.

By the way I'm not talking about enemy targeted mitigation to reduce the enemy's damage like Feint, Addle, and Dismantle. Just like what I did say in my original post, I meant single target mitigation you can apply to yourself or another party member such as Aquaveil, Divine Benison, or Exaltation.

Tanks and healers are already overflowing with single target mitigations they barely use

Look me in the eye and tell me you use every single charge of divine bension and aquaveil in an encounter or use every charge of taurochole and haima other than for the memes

If there's a particular buster whether in Savage or Ultimate that hurts a lot it can help. If any party member is somewhat low on HP before a raidwide and no one else notices but the Physical Ranged DPS it can help. Or it can simply serve as your own personal mitigation for when you think you're low before a raidwide.

Yes but I mean does that really justify a buttons existence

Tankbusters already run into “kitchen sinking means each CD matters less due to diminishing returns” and like I said above healers already have a wealth of single target mitigation they have nothing else to spend on because autos are so weak

As for the “party member low on health and only phys ranged notices” that’s basically the same reason wardens paeon exists for its effect niche and it’s barely used as it is because of the healers don’t notice it, it’s very unlikely the phys ranged notice it

As for a personal mitigation tool I mean I’m not fully opposed to that but do the phys ranged really need one. In casual content they can just use their AOE mitigation for it and in high end content everyone is already relying so heavily on the shield healer that personal mitigation has become almost useless except for like RPR’s crest of time borrowed because that generates a useful effect when it’s absorbed

Or if you're pugging Savage and playing with tanks that tend to not press their mitigation or just forget to press them then it would be helpful there.

If I'm not mistaken, Ranged DPS had this back in stormblood. It was something called Palisade and it was a 20% PHYSICAL Mitigation for 10 sec on a selected target and that couldn't apply to himself. It was a strong tool because the mitigation was high but the CD was 150 sec (Yeah, we didn't all have 60/120 on things back then)

Today, Tank already mitigate 20% Naturally (Look at their lvl 1 passive skill), so I guess that's why they deleted it.

Adding again a mitigation on top what all ranged DPS have would be overwhelming. All Ranged can reduce damage by 10% (Twice for the MCH). Dancer can heal and shield. Bard can also upgrade the healing done to everyone. So that's basically two Defensive Tool for each Ranged class.

We don't need one more at the moment

That's just skill issue from the tank. That doesn't justify a defensive cooldown for ranged

The first point I will concede that as long the tanks and healers are competent then it is unnecessary. But I do think in a party where that's not the case then it will be helpful. You can't really control someone else's level of skill in a pug unless you type something and they actually listen. A single target mitigation would at least be something within your control.

The second point I disagree with it being as niche because I've witnessed several cases where a DPS has died because they were low before a raidwide compared to everyone else. If they were noticed by the healers they wouldn't have died. Whether the Physical Ranged DPS would notice is up to them but it would be something within their control in that situation.

For the third point being do they really need one? Maybe it's not essential to have personal mitigation but similar to what I've said to the second point I've seen a lot of times where others have died to a raidwide because they were lower than others in HP. And I've seen just as many times where someone's personal mitigation like Third Eye, Manaward, or Radiant Aegis makes the difference between life or death in that situation. I think that every job should have access to a personal mitigation including RDM and DRG.

I do think that the game currently presents a way bigger offer in mitigation tools than its actual demand in any kind of encounter, be it savage or ultimate. This is not what rphys truly needs, even though I can understand the wish to see it go back to support dps identity like it had with manasong (I truly do mourn this). But the difference here is that the old support rphys offered was a requirement in MP/TP negative rotations. Today, mitigation is NOT a requirement, because tanks have been given an insane amount of this, as well as healers, compared to back then where most of the party wide mitigation tools were either healer shields or rphys mitigation.

We're literally drowning in a sea of mitigators. Don't get me wrong, I like having so many options and tools at disposal, but the encounters don't require them, because encounters are not about RPG mechanics as much as running all around solving mechanics. It has a small part left in still planning mitigation across the board for ease of play and optimization at min ilvl when raids release (or for ultimates), but it's not like, a mandatory requirement to do.

Ultimately I'm not against a single target tool for rphys to have, and hopefully it's better than old nature's minne (like palisade). And it will add to the colossal amount of identical tools offered by support roles (tanks and healers). And ultimately, people will still be mad at the state of rphys because what it truly needs has still not been achieved: a way to compete in party damage with melee dps and BLM, and not be left as a consolation 1% role bonus choice for your team.

And I'm totally not expecting SE after adding another mitigation tool to the job to add it on the endless pile of excuses not to buff our raid dps... Nope, they will totally never do this.



Edit: I'll add that if supports are not using their mitigation tools in some PUGs, and don't currently get punished for it, then adding more tools to make up for that lack of skill is not the solution imo. You'll just enable that kind of behavior. On the contrary, I do think that parties should struggle or wipe more when mitigation is not used, because I like RPG elements. Else it's like saying we need more potent healing to make up for healers slacking with healing and leading to wipes...

No thank you, my DPS is already taxed enough because I'm ranged and my DPS is already dependent on how my dance partner performs.

yeah that sounds like they wil just end up getting the jobs damage nerfed like redmage because of utility, plus i dont know why it would fall on another dps to cover another player, in fact i can see it thought as helping but hurting, like a fresh rez accept, waiting to use actions before healed because of a damage burst, but an unaware range breaks their invulnerability and ends up killing them..

imho it hurts more than it helps

Taurochole has no charges, unless you mean addersgall and yes, you use those plenty of times since 3 moves use those, especially when newer people are doing their first run of raids or siuch or to help regain mana.

And haima charges are always at 5, it's automatically applied, and the stacks heal you up aswell when they expire which is actually a fantastic use of panhaima to add a shield on everyone that autoheals after a big aoe spike is incoming like in p12, or on repeated inc damage like in p9, p10 or p11

I wouldn’t mind getting Palisade back, but at the same time it’s just a single target version of what we already have (Troubadour/Shield Samba/Tactician). Maybe a role action like Excogitation that restores health to the target when they fall below a certain threshold. Though nobody ever needs heals anyway. Still, personally I feel like all three jobs in the phys dps kinda fail at actually being ‘support dps’, they’re just ‘weak dps who lose a ton of damage because they can jump and attack at the same time or something lol (plus they’re the easiest jobs in the game beside Summoner)

I really don’t see how any more ranged dps tax is going to change much of anything for Dancer and Bard lol, they’re already the two lowest dps in the game. It’s not like they can get any lower, besides maybe against each other. You guys would have a heart attack if you saw 2.0/3.0 Bard (15% damage reduction while singing) lol. Also, I doubt they’d nerf Machinist to the bottom of the dps barrel for getting like one extra role action. Are melee being taxed for Feint, Arm’s Length or Bloodbath? How about Black Mage for Addle?

Physical Ranged dps will literally never be high up the DPS list lol, not after 2.0 Bard took over Coil parties when it first came out. 4X Bard was pretty much the meta comp initially. Might as well give them some ways to actively support the party so they’re not just discount summoners (with arguably less valuable utility)
