What exactly is the point of Expert Roulette?

Jo why is there a seperation between lvl 90 dungeons and lvl 90 dungeons?

Expert roulette is just the same version lvl 90 dungeons but the two newest ones.

Just remove expert roulette and only keep the lvl 90 roulette with all lvl 90 dungeons instead.

Id love to see a new roulette for the dead content, like Bozja content and Eureka ( place a chest at the beginning ) - it helps people get the clears for the mounts etc.

Atm, expert can be solo healed by most tanks. :s

I've long wished they would just keep all the max level dungeons together so we'd actually have some variant instead of a coinflip. I suspect they split them up to keep the most recent dungeon perpetually active. That, and it just being hold over from bygone years when we'd get 3-4 dungeons in two patch cycles.

Originally expert roulette consisted of the hard mode dungeons, but that obviously changed when they basically stopped doing that for whatever reason. I don't really know why they split them anymore other than possibly due to unlock requirements/ilvl changes as people in expert are running them for their daily tomes and the devs want those players to only get the more recent dungeons.

I like the extra roulette, gives me another roulette to do

Expert is "dungeons from the most recent two patches" so I think it was relevant when you had two or three dungeons per patch, but it isn't so useful now with only one dungeon per patch.

Though at a selfish level, I'm quite happy to have those first three dungeons out of the roulette. The lack of glamour made them feel like the short straw versus Alzadaal's Legacy, and I couldn't stand the oppressive mood of the final MSQ dungeon.

I wonder if it was done to prevent the exact same problem we see with Alliance roulette? The first level 90 dungeon ending up the only dungeon players would see 90% of the time due to more players having it unlocked and other level 90 players not having the ilvl to qualify for the latest dungeon.

If I recall, way back in ARR, there was no iLvl sync for dungeons. Running the earlier level 50 ARR dungeons with i130 gear would be a joke and in SE's mind, hardly worth rewarding 90 capped tomestones for it. So they'd force players to run the latest 3 or so dungeons so justify the reward.

Once you unlock expert roulette, there is zero reason to do 90 roulette. It gives less weekly tomestone, and you could earn more from just running a specific expert dungeon instead of touching 90 roulette. This was also true in Shadowbringers, and I hated that. There was plenty of 80 dungeons that I enjoyed doing, but when the reward for doing a roulette is near worthless, why bother doing it.

Personally, a roulette with a large number of dungeons I enjoy is exactly what will make me want to participate even if the rewards aren't the best.

On the other hand, disliked dungeons guarantee that I will stay away from those roulettes, and the Dead Ends and Smileton together were enough to put me off Expert roulette when they were there, and now keep me firmly out of the 90 roulette.

Personally, I dislike expert roulette. It gets stale, just like MSQ roulette. Having just 2 or 3 options isn't too interesting. In an earlier post, I mentioned that in ARR they didn't cap iLvl until late in the expansion. So, running Amdapor's Keep or Brayflox was a complete joke (anyone remember farming the first boss in Brayflox for poetics for the Atma weapon?).

Given that iLvl is capped based on the dungeon, I'd rather see Level 90 Roulette instead of "newest two dungeon" roulette. Cap the iLvl like it is now for these older level 90 dungeons and just make all of the level 90 dungeons count as expert. Frankly, there really isn't anything "expert" about these two latest dungeons.

Because it's a different ilvl, and to get the most recent dungeons populated to fill queues.

I can't even remember the last time did an Expert Roulette, I only ever do is the MSQ roulette and alliance Raid roulette.

It's worth it just for the tomes. 90 current tomes for one 15 minute dungeon isn't something to sniff at.

I do them daily 'cause I like to, for the most part.

Although, I'd be happier if they just put all current lv90 dungeons into Expert Roulette instead of separating them. When a smaller pool of roulette houses a dungeon that I'm not particularly fond of, it decrease my motivation to actually do them. Lv90 Dungeon Roulette then can be revamped to something else (i.e. All dungeon but scaled to lv90 stats, maybe?)... or removed and have those rewards redistributed between currently existing roulettes.

I feel an extra point against expert roulette, is that the expert dungeons don't live up to their names at all. Expert dungeons are some of the most boring dungeons in this entire game. Generally super easy bosses, only time anyone is at risk of pain is double-pulling adds or when they stand in multiple aoes.

Should honestly make expert dungeons have adds that are actually a little scary, and bosses that actually have interesting mechanics.

An example: The Fell Court of Troia is incredibly boring once you finish it the first time.

First boss is an add phase where enemies die so fast, that if you play a job like black mage, good luck doing any proper aoe damage before rest of your party has melted them.
Second boss is super easy aoe dodging and the occasional gaze mechanic (the latter is nice) but nothing really deals damage or is a threat.
Third boss deaths are possible by standing in knockback aoe, or not paying attention, but generally just a very easy fight to deal with too.

As a dps you'll be bored and as a healer you'll be sleeping.

Same problem with Alzadaal's Legacy, where the last boss especially is just a complete snoozefest. These dungeons age incredibly poorly, and there is rarely any interesting going on with them too.

I think it would go a long way if dungeon bosses actually used tank busters way more often, like Buckethead in Shadowbringers.

But if you make it like Criterion level nobody would ever do it. The average player skill is just not there. Expert has to literally serve the lowest denominator.

Nobody does criteon because there are no rewards, has nthing to do with difficulty, even ultimates are run in partyfinder.

I enjoy the criterion dungeons quite a bit, but I have zero reason to run them anymore because they offer nothing of value.

As someone who hates fell court, I’m so sick of 90s roulette being segregated. But combining them won’t make me happy. Out of the 90s six dungeons half of them are ok while the other half are garbage that would make Sastsha blush so you get the same odds for a decent run 50/50

The only thing I want from roulette is to synch the item level so the warrior doesn’t solo the whole instance, so the 24 man raids don’t rot from power creep Ivalice has a patch or two left until it becomes like void ark

"What is the point of Expert roulette?" - I ask this question every time a new dungeon drops per major patch. Sure you can farm it for tomes but you can almost get those anywhere doing any other content. Every time it's been after a new dungeon drops: you only see that specific dungeon and the older ones get thrown into the inevitable "never-to-be-seen-again and no-reason-to-return-to" pile like the rest once you're done with a certain point in MSQ or the patches move on.
