I'm afraid I have to say no, and this is unusual considering other MMOs don't usually do things like this by leaving behind unfinished works (most of the time anyway).
They're chasing the spectacle too much with newer content.
Well if low level dungeons are any indication, probably not. They're only getting easier and easier than they already are due to the buffs to skills.
I think I had a totorak run in roulette that lasted all of 6 minutes.
I really don't play XIV enough to answer that. I mostly come around during events or new content that may intrigue me (But ends up not intriguing me 90% of the time.......I actually spend more time on the forums than in-game).
But they sure didn't in XI.....

At least we got Morpher I suppose......
so if they don't (i find them not and i see people here and in game think so as well) why not just delet this content late on when it no longer relevent?
*flips another Lords of Vermillion table over*
No. :^(
They should add a level 90 Criterion Savage version of Sastasha!
one way i can think of them make all old content relevant is adding a way to get up to date relevant crafting mat from old dungeons/raids/trials
They work as hard as they can to make old content irrelevant. Rewards from PotD/HoH and minions from 3.0/4.0 dungeons can be acquired very easily now from the grand company coffers. So much so that those items are so cheap people give them away. And there's so much stuff thrown onto retainers it's unreal. The new crafted battle gear just came out and already retainers can bring you HQ versions of the 580 gear.
In terms of raids and dungeons sure, in terms of reworking it to give new players a better experience? Absolute F tier.
I personally think that ARR is so bad you could call it the great filter, I'm 100% sure that if you would list where most players
stop playing it's in ARR because the quests, rotation and difficulty is just so, SO boring. I remember when I was in late ARR
I was so exhausted I legit had a moment where I thought I'm gonna buy a boost.
i find them faille hard core in terms of raids and dungeons. what bring me to start this topic is doing old raids, and go dam each one take up to 1h to get in. i find that even in roulettes people skipping raids as they don't give any thing.
They do a very poor job of it. Many systems go neglected until they elect to reuse them for a relic, they can definitely do a LOT more, and they SHOULD do a LOT more.
Its old content...it doesn't need to be supported. We have roulettes and level sync to keep the MSQ required still active and that's all that's necessary.
Personally for what we have now, I think it's very serviceable for keeping a lot of old content relevant. Especially compared to a lot of other MMOs.
Yeah try wanting to go through all expansion content and questing in WoW, you can't do it. Even with Chromie Time, you just get booted out if you hit the level cap.
Playing through the game again on an alt, I appreciate the rework to a lot of the old dungeon and solo duty content in ARR. Just want for SE to keep at it and continue to improve it. I think too many people are jaded nowadays to give ARR a lot of flak. Is it just me or do I really miss the slow world building pace of it compared to how current msq is built now? Granted I still enjoy current msq anyway but I feel something is lost there.
Basically, I think it's fine and I want them to continue to improve upon it. (Psst hey SE, add in bicolor gemstones to ARR-SB zones please)
While I agree to an extent, there is content that permeates the experience past early game. And I define Early Game as being up to the Trial version, which many people likely consider to be too narrow.
For example, what Kaurhz above you said:
This is felt in ARR content. Prime example is the GC Ranks. They're not finished. The Squadrons only go up to a certain point in the story. And they haven't been updated to feature Viera and Hrothgar despite having been updated to feature Au Ra when they came out.
And though old content doesn't need to be supported, they sure keep shoving old content into newer content. Such as the Bozja Weapons and their blatant attempt to revive old content by forcing alliance raid spam or populate low level areas for FATE grinding. Or, if you're not inclined to do Delubrum, do Palace of the Dead. Meaning Square does still see it as relevant to an extent, so they support it beyond just roulettes o: It's just not done in a good sense.
not really as then there just nothing to do in this game. relevant new content in each patch last what? weak to 4 weeks? what then? people constantly talk about how there lots of old content you can do. but lots of time you just cant or it take WAY to much time to even get in to it. but its not just old dungeons/raids/trials but hole systems people loved. GL find any one to do deep dungeons. why squadron in the game at the same time as you cant use them no where. when was the last time they added any thing new to the gold saucer rewards? what about the fashion report? don't it deserve some new glams to get from doing it? fishing was really popular when it was new. why it got neglected? need i go more as i can.
What's even your problem? I've had friends including myself appreciating the new reworks to dungeons because the old archaic designs didn't jell with the current game. Yeah that 2nd boss at Copperbell Mine was suuuuuuper exciting having practically half of the party not do anything.
You say they don't update their old content yet when they do you complain about it. I'm not gonna further debate with you on this as you clearly have no clue what you're even talking about. Just complaining for the sake of complaining. Good job

Sorry had to laugh for a bit there. But the answer is no. Like with most things they do, they're slow, inefficient, and ineffective.
Ok my mistake then.
I personally think what we have that's relevant is...relatively fine? My only issue is how much relevancy do we want to have for content, because if a lot of things become relevant then we can easily run into the problem of things being a daily chore.
I rather like that many things and systems in this game have a clear end to them such as GC ranks and Tribal Dailies. The only additions I would seek from them would be to add in some new rewards but all in all I still see many people interacting at the GC desk since most of us do roulettes and use dungeon items to turn in for seals, to buy some essentials and what not like grade matters, ventures, manuals, cordials, material coffers etc.
Leveling experience on multiple jobs is bad so no it's pretty bad on old content. The balance the game around level cap and raids so there's your problem.
It sucks with GC because the MSQ gets on your face with that, forces you to join one and then... whatever and it takes time getting to Captain rank as a fresh sprout. Your Squadron caps to 60 yet no new GC related stuff at lv60, no new fancy GC themed gear and so on. All that left to dust and some occasional mission for my MGP boost tickets...
Most of the fancy GC gear is behind Hunts anyway. The only updates I care for with GC are allowing us to run Trust dungeons with our squad mates, include Hroth and Viera members, and give new rewards for seal purchasing.
Maybe also add in Allied Seal or tomestone rewards for doing Command Missions. Otherwise nothing too much where I have to add in another daily chore on my list.
GC additions should come with each new expansion. GC kinda feels like Blue Mage where everything is 2 or more expansions behind. Grand Companies of Eorzea should be improving over the course of the game. As is it gives the vibe that the 3 nations aren't doing anything to improve their world status.
I always had the idea that Ishgard and Ala Mhigo would become their own GC and offer different gear and rewards.
Clearly not the case.
I feel like the Beast Tribes are the real GC content these days. Rep grinds and rewards you can get at certain rep tiers.
All games like this have to focus on new content. New DLC. That's what makes people login again. That's where the money is.
They are taking the time now to alter the required quests and dungeons to increase retention, but it's the sort of thing they do in their spare time because they don't want to take all the resources away from new content where the money is.
I don't think they do enough to let us enjoy the older content again. They don't need spend much time on this issue, but just make it sync tighter or scale the health and incoming damage to be higher when it's needed. We need a Faux Hollows or Blue Mage Log system for doing old content minimum item level. These are the simple things that could be done to support old content better.
I'd say they're getting better. The new MSQ roulette (with actual mechanics) and the pre-50 leveling experience really improves the early game. I've noticed they took the layout of some of the most hated dungeons, threw them in the trash, and replaced them with something more representative of the later content. The new trust-lite system is great, too.
I did Castrum for the first time the second time a few nights ago and was bemused the little tank had to deal with a tankbuster marker. Huge, dumb wings of trash busywork were cleared out too!
While some might have complaints about the overall dungeon philosphy of "one path/ three bosses/ packs between bosses," I appreciate the work that went into making these dungeons consistent with the rest of the game. Especially the work that went into making bosses have cute little mechanics at the early levels -- Copperbell normal especially comes to mind.
Also no more green sparkle collection or muckwalking in Toto. Thank god.
Yes & No - I think the best way to not make old content such a slog is unlock all skills in synced dungeons
There is nothing more aggrivating than playing a lvl 90 class but you can only use 2 skills. I'm fine with having my numbers tweaked but not having all of my abilities- like, yes, I got max level to get stuck in crystal tower (old content) that's why I play FFXIV! to press 1, 2, 1, 2 in a low level dungeon
That's one sure design GW2 had right, your damage was synced but you could still do your entire rotation.
More Old content though, like the doman enclave feels absolutely pointless as does bozja. The rewards from these are just trash most of the time and you're not missing out by not doing them.
Even Island Sanctuary feels like old content because it just lacks any customization & is just real estate simulator. The people in charge of designing it completely miss the point of games like Animal Crossing, Story of Seasons (aka old Harvest Moon) & Stardew Valley & I'm convinced they never played those types of games & further proves they don't listen to feedback when it comes to housing or customization.
But the xiv team has done a good job at cleaning up the story, making certain points more impactful as you see it happen in later expansions & taking out any irrelevant dialogue
They should also add extreme versions of the dungeons- as someone suggested, a lvl 90 version of it-similar to what WoW had, mythic dungeons that you just did for better gear & were hard & fun
The first wave of people to quit the game from my old FC and LSs pretty much left for this reason. The shallow, transient content that becomes irrelevant, pointless, and buried under the next dump of shallow, temporarily relevant content. The locations aren't leaving a lasting impression because they are just reskinned flat instanced rooms to host a scripted boss fight that quickly becomes irrelevant as the item level treadmill leaves it behind.
They absolutely are. If you are maintaining some notion that it will be exactly as it was in ARR, that is not possible given the content structure of the game. Not to mention they've learned and applied so many lessons since then that raids are entirely different from then.
I don't think most players are interested in SE focusing on old content if it means that new content is slower to release. Also, anytime SE does something different, people get annoyed BECAUSE it's different, so is it any wonder they stick with what generally works?
Once they redesign Crystal Tower raids.
