Housing Suggestions and Account Changes

Below are some suggestions I have been thinking about and feel would be fair across the board. These are some things I would consider if I owned FFXIV.

1. Allow a rotation of sunrise and sunset in both divisions. Every other cycle of day and night change it from sunrise to sunset. Then when we have other events still add in those fireworks. Mix it up a bit maybe during each season (spring, summer, fall, winter) we get different elements like northern lights during the winter or rainbows during the summer for example. Keep adding snow for just the month of December or some leaves falling for Fall. Just some ideas to keep the environment you’re in interesting regardless which housing district you reside in. You could choose to theme out the elements for each housing district like fireflies flying around in lavender. You can make lavender similar to the movie Avatar with the tree of life and other elements however I’d keep the sunrise and sunset and fireworks the same throughout all housing districts.

2. Regular division would be FC only for all wards and Subdivision would be Private houses in all wards (vice versa). This would keep a fair amount available for each FC and private house players. It wouldn’t matter which division you get because you’d still be able to enjoy the same cycle and element changes. This would eliminate people craving for a Lavender 41 or a Shirogane 60 because you can get the same experience with a Lavender 11 or Shirogane 30.

OR to sweeten the pot, just combine the FC and private houses into one. Make all houses private but can be later upgraded into an FC but make the requirements the same for owning a private house. So, at any time you can upgrade from a “Private” to a “Free Company”. If you want to upgrade to an FC, then you can include those requirements to own an FC. You wouldn’t need to worry so much about how many people put in for a plot if you remove the lottery system and implement instance housing.

3. Allow the houses to become instance housing like Elder Scrolls Online. If you currently own a house, then yours gets turned into instance housing. Everyone can own 8 FCs and 8 Private houses per world since you are limited to 8 characters OR just 8 houses in general that you choose which of the 8 get upgraded from a private house to an FC. Ward owners would go away since all houses will be instance. When people are online the wards will be dynamic - always changing who your neighbor will be based on who is logged in and locked into that plot slot for the time being. I would still allow grandfathered accounts to avoid upsetting those players or penalizing them for being able to own that many during those current times in the past. This is more so for new players moving forward.

4. Allow everyone to start out with a small house. As you progress in game you can upgrade your house to a medium then to a large and then to a mega large. For those who already have existing houses of a particular size can keep them or choose to opt into the new changes that take effect. You can capitalize on this by allowing custom-built houses and you can keep the standard modeled homes that SE offers for others to choose from.

5. Allow you to place your house on the market board to sell if you no longer want it and want to move to another server. But SE is to set the price for that. If you want to put up a small house for sell that is empty, then it will be the same price to sell as it was for you to purchase it. If you have a house that is professionally decorated and I’m not talking about throwing in a few pieces of furniture I mean true decorations like from “Bright Dancer” for example, then that price will be an increase because you will be purchasing the house fully furnished. Your options will be to place an empty plot with no house (unfurnished) on the market board or to place a plot that is fully furnished with a house and professionally decorated. By having SE set these prices it keeps it fair and eliminates those from wanting to price gouge. You will be required to include a photo of the placard and photos of the house. If an ad doesn’t meet the standards, then it can be reported to a GM in game to resolve. If SE doesn’t want to do this, then all houses are to be added with an empty plot (unfurnished) on the market board to sell, and you can find your own designer later to decorate your house.

6. Expanding on 5, allow services to be added to the market board as it’s more organized. You can have a decorator offer to decorate your house for a fee. There should be a rating system so people can leave feedback on their work. You will be able to view their feedback from others and view the work they’ve done. Maybe someone is great at gardening, and you want to hire a gardener. Same with those who are an expert in submarines in a workshop.

7. Demolition timer would go away since houses would become instance allowing you to take a break at any time and not have to worry about finding your house gone.

8. To prevent Gil sellers from the black market, SE should have their own in game micro transactions for gil they can offer to sell to players. Make the prices fair and not so overpriced like the shark cards in GTA. Make it like Lost Ark where it’s safe to purchase gil from the developers in game. The money from the micro transactions can be used to put toward implementing other features that would require more servers and resources on those servers for instance housing. We know that the island housing is instance and takes up a lot of resources on their servers. I'm surprised SE doesn't raise our monthly subscriptions to accommodate for such expenses on their end to make us happy.

9. Allow you to change your name, date of birth and username for all SE accounts. Other businesses allow this, and you can even add a $10 charge for changing information.
Allow ownership of accounts to be changed and documented. Have a safe process in place for this where both the original owner and new owner are on a 3-way phone call with the SE support reps. Maybe even require the original owner and new owner to provide a notarized document of the account ownership change so SE won’t be held liable. As we get older, we may want to pass down the account to our children or other family members who may also want to change the account information to theirs.
Selling of accounts are going to happen in the black market regardless but to help prevent scammers from reclaiming accounts on honest buyers, allow the account information to be completely changed. This will avoid and cut down scamming a lot. Set a limit on how many times you can make this change per year to avoid others from taking advantage of the system. Have these changes documented in the mogstation account. You are also giving people freedom to change their account information fully. SE always gives the account back to the original owner and that original owner could very well be a scammer who keeps reclaiming the account and scamming others over and over. So, to be fair and prevent fraud from account sales that will happen regardless, at least allow account changes for honest buyer’s sake. I understand people want to sell their accounts for various legit reasons especially if they need the money like during Covid times, but you will have those whose intentions are to scam others. I’ve heard too many horror stories of people getting scammed. You should only purchase the account from the original owner and then go through the change of ownership process.

10. One Time passcodes should only be allowed to be set with a notary. They should not be allowed to be deleted without a notary from the true owner of the account. What is the point of adding a one time passcode when a scammer who knows some information on you can create a support ticket that you have no knowledge about as the system doesn’t email the email address on the mogstation account saying a ticket was created on behalf of your account. Was this you? Then the scammer removes the one time passcode so they can then get into your account to do damage. This will help prevent people’s accounts from being compromised. So, it’s best everyone gets a one time passcode on their account. If you choose not to then yes, you risk your account being vulnerable. If you are the true owner of an account with your true information on the account then by adding a one time passcode, your account should never be compromised as a one time passcode shouldn’t be easy to be removed by SE support.

The only way to stop Gil sellers is to make Gil untradable, which can't be done as it would require the elimination of the MB as well, as it's based on the tradability of Gil. It's the primary method of moving Gil around from seller to buyer since they implemented the trade cap on P2P trades so It would have to go. What do you think those everyday items on the MB priced at 999 million Gil (or whatever) are for? Not only that but even if SE did make it untradable Gil sellers would just start selling tradable in game assets like crafted gear, mats, food, and medicines. Basically anything SE could do would be countered easily. As for implementing a legal Gil sale? Feck no, that would alienate a MASSIVE number of players whose sole enjoyment is crafting, gathering, and the sale of such assets on the MB. In addition we'd now have a P2W game which would alienate another portion of players. People ask for this kind of thing once in a while and I can only think that they don't fully understand the game and its playerbase. From a game publishers standpoint P2W/F2P games have a huge allure due to insane profit margins, but imo they prey upon the whales with no self control. SE has a large, mostly happy base that willingly pays a monthly sub, not to mention the cash shop for cosmetics etc. I hope they don't fall into that F2P/P2W trap as I know I'd be out within the hour and I'm sure I wouldn't be alone.

Just think about it. What do Gil sellers need to succeed? They need Gil buyers. So if SE offers micro transactions for in game gil to be purchased through them like other game developers have implemented in their games, it would then make others buy from SE and not from the gil sellers. Also if you are personally still against this idea, your option is to not buy the micro transactions from SE. But others may want to take advantage of this feature and it wouldn't be bad if they did as it would be allowed. Just like the lottery system took away business from the black market selling houses for gil and/or money. SE crippled that black market. It also crippled the bots clicking at housing placards. So why not give some players what they want which is gil and they can buy it safely and not get banned or scammed for it and it would be coming directly from SE if they chose to implement micro transactions for gil in game. Easy fix and trust me it would resolve the issue with that black market. These are ideas I have been thinking of if SE is on board to put them in place. If not then unfortunately nothing will be resolved.

As for your P2W - they already offer potions to do level and story skips so.....

No. Gil and marketboarding are as much of a skill as anything else. Many of us worked our rear ends off to make the kind of gil we have because that is the aspect of the game we enjoy. So yeah, buying gil straight from SE would, in fact, be P2W to us.

Buying a one time story skip/level up potion isn't even remotely the same. You aren't being handed the keys to lvl 90 along with a full set of top tier raid gear along with it. Letting people just buy gil rather than learn how to make their own (which is stunningly easy, it just takes work) is the equivalent of that.

WoW Tokens alone didn't break World of Warcraft. But they certainly made things worse. And guess what? There are still players and bots trying to sell gold for money. You should never be able to buy gil straight up with microtransactions.

Why would you want to buy gil? Playing for slightly over a year, without a single crafter at 90 yet, I've earned enough gil to afford any large mansion if I wanted one (I just want a Medium). Heck, I didn't even know to check my retainers to see if they sold anything until December last year. Gil isn't the problem here at all. The problem is that even with the gil, there's nothing to spend it on because there's no housing available that I desire.

Want gil? Make large personal player housing more easily attainable. That will allow players to sell more furnishings for gil.

I don't think you understand the ripple effects. Do you do any high end raiding or crafting? Microtransactions such as you are proposing would destroy these gameplay aspects for everyone who does them (a staggeringly large community), and still would do little to nothing to curb the rampant botting and Gil selling. Level pots aren't P2W in the same way, they still place you 10 levels behind current and do not include the latest expansion for story jumps. If I could legit buy Gil I could just buy the top tier crafted gear, pay my way through the pentamelds, pay for the top tier raid food. XIV is for the most part very carefully crafted and balanced to extract the max amount of gameplay out of endgame build-up without being overly grindy (subjective), it's spread across many activities and gameplay types from DoH/L to the Raiders themselves. It also supports a HUGE amount of the game economy. "Illegal" Gil sales already disrupt this to some extent, "legal" sales through SE would destroy it. Based on my 9 years of experience with this game community P2W would drive a mass exodus, you should see the frothing at the mouth hate over NFT's, or what some see as SE's abuse of the cash shop just for cosmetics. P2W has a place for some game types, I do not believe XIV to be one of them.

Ya, Gil is legit easy to get these days. Like IRL don't spend it on silly things and in no time at all you have a nice stack. I spend Gil like crazy, but I also make a ton. My Glams are on point even if my actual gear isn't <.< (I reeeaaally need to get my roulettes done more frequently ...)

For once someone mentions about my other ideas. Thank you very much for reading them. I have so many ideas to try to make this game better and to please everyone by being fair.

But my main goal for the microtransactions was to help multiple issues. People today are buying illegal gil so they are already doing what you are in fear of. It's happening as we speak. However, if SE allows microtransactions it will do the following:

1. Crash the gil seller black market.
2. Allow players to legit purchase gil without being banned or scammed if they choose to. This doesn't mean everyone will do it. Things may be as you see them now. There are already illegal boosting going on without the legit microtransaction in place by SE.
3. This will help fund the game. Instead of one gil seller making $30k plus per year, that money will be given to SE to help fund the game for future requests and servers.

In my opinion we are accomplishing a lot. The main goal is to shut down the black market for gil sellers and in return help fund FFXIV for SE.

For half the world snow falls in June/July, not December/January. Maybe make it so it snows in June instead?

For me it still feels darned weird seeing December snow in a game when it's 43 degrees outside (that's around 110 american degrees)

Yeah, I remember celebrating Christmas at Bondi Beach one year, and it was indeed different. (Not that we get snow where I live now anyway, regardless of the time of year.)

When I play AC:NH my island is in the southern hemisphere, I am in the north. This way it's always the other season so I can pretend its crisp and cold while I sweat my kitty bitties off on the couch in summer, or nice and hot while I freeze my kitty bitties off on the couch (under a blanket, with a hot tea) in the winter. I could enjoy this in XIV as well lol. I think I also might like an actual 24 hour day like AC but I expect most might not, and the ET clock for gathering nodes would need to be revamped etc..

The marketboard isn't designed for advertising services. A separate system would be need.

It would probably be best accomplished through a new category in Party Finder, which would reach the entire data center and not just the local world.

And you're not going to find anyone willing to garden for another player so that player can profit while the gardener gets gil scraps.

That won't stop RMT.

It also has the possibility to bring the same problems that WoW has thanks to the unrestricted use of the WoW token into this game. I don't think that's a mistake SE wants to repeat.

Nope. Someone wants an account, they can make a new account. Let's not open the game to official selling of accounts on eBay (though it's already being done of course).

For someone who claims to want to stop RMT, you certainly seem determined to increase it.

SE can choose to add it to the market board or to a party finder. I say market board or something very similar to it because it's more organized in my opinion and it goes along with what is already there such as furniture items for sale. The market board also has house walls so why not add a new icon for houses/plots and list them in that category. It makes perfect sense to do it on the market board in that world like everything else is. I wouldn't offer it in a party finder across the worlds when the entire purpose is to cater to that specific world for those players in that world like things are now. I mentioned how SE would set the price for this so it would be 100% fair and safe. No one would get scammed out of the deal either. Keep in mind this would work best if instance housing was implemented because this method would be bypassing the lottery system. With instance housing you won't need the lottery system anymore. As for the gardener services that was just an example. Some people don't know how to do gardening and some don't even know anything about the submarines or airships. Some don't know how to decorate and will want to hire a professional designer. It will help everyone recognize who are designers and how many of them are out there. These things are happening now without the market board but I'm trying to add more ideas to this game that will bring more players in and entice them to want to play. FF has such great opportunity you can do so much with it to the point it would be one of the best games to where gamers would leave WOW or other MMOS because with these new features in place no one else would have it. My goal is to bring more player base to FF with new fresh ideas and to continue to fund the game as well. To keep everyone safe from fraud and to shut down and/or cripple as much of the black market as possible. Here is another good example the games called Farming Simulator and Ark Survival has gamers who created their own mods in game. They also create their own maps that weren't initially a part of the game. Then later on as developers saw how other gamers enjoyed those mods they decided to implement and include them officially into their game. These are things the gamers want to see so why not take something and make it a part of something great? Why not take something that is used for bad or people frown down upon and make it good and be used for a better purpose? That's my goal here.

It will definitely stop a huge part of RMT with gil if you can purchase it straight from the game developers in game like other games have been doing. It's also safe and prevents scammers from frauding others. This method helps resolve multiple issues. Just like I mentioned above how the lottery system helped resolve a lot of other issues. It helped definitely slow that or halt the black market for sure. So ya I'm all for stopping the black market by coming up with inventive ways to filter more of that out and still be able to allow something safe for all gamers to take part it. Microtransactions aren't bad and it's way safer in my opinion. Plus it all helps fund the game more instead of SE increasing our monthly subscription for so many things we ask them for that costs them more money. If you don't like it then you don't have to purchase any microtransactions.

Playstation and Xbox allow you to change your gamertag for a fee and other gaming developers allow that freedom to easily make changes to your account. I'm all about keeping people safe that is my goal here. Accounts will still be sold regardless so why not help prevent scammers and shut them down and cripple their black market by changing things up in their world to inconvenience them? You seem so quick to say no to everything when in reality this will help solve several things. If I move from one country to another I want to be able to change my region on my own. If I get to become an older age and no longer want to play this game I want to be able to pass down my account to one of my children so they can play and have it as their own. What is so wrong about that? If someone's account keeps getting compromised and they had a one time passcode set yet SE support had it easily removed, then I'd want the ability to change my username and information to better shield myself and to put a stop to that compromise for good. These are safe guards we need in place. Again if you don't like change it's your choice not to partake in it. But don't ruin it for others who may want to have it as an option later on down the road for them.

Second, RMT and black market will not stop. Look at WoW, RMT alive and well still despite the token. Don't like it don't buy it wouldn't help, either. It makes it so gil is P2W if you have the money to buy it straight from SE. Everyone is affected whether or not we participate in buying gil.

Changing a gamertag isn't the same is changing personal identification information.

User License agreements point out that you do not own the game, that a license has been granted to you to use the game service. If you want your child to have the game service, in most cases you need to purchase them a separate license. There is no right to transfer ownership of it unless the child that the license was purchased for has become an adult and ownership of the account is being officially transferred to the now adult from the parent/guardian's name. You don't get to pass off a game to your children just because you no longer want to play.

Game companies are not going to allow transfer of license rights when that is going to cut into the income they receive from selling the license rights in the first place.

Go ahead and keep shouting to try to get people to agree with you. It's not going to change how companies choose to do business, and it's going to make more people ignore you than give your opinions any consideration.

And it has been proven in other games that adding an official gold sales channel doesnt end illegal ones. At most it gets them to lower their prices and diversify more into other "services".

A notary? Lol like I’d make an appointment, fill forms, provide various official ID documents and pay several hundreds $ (That’s what it would cost here) to get a one time password for a $60 game. Then do it again to delete the PW??? I use notaries pretty much exclusively to prepare property deeds and wills, not some $60 bs.

And let’s not even get into jurisdictional issues and other technicalities as well as the fact that there aren’t notaries everywhere and that “notary” doesn’t quite mean the same thing everywhere (sounds like you are more talking about what we call here a commissioner for oaths but it is still ridiculous).
