Please add guest access settings from Island Sanctuary to housing

Hi there,

when I got into housing I noticed quickly how odd the guest access settings are. You can either lock everyone out or open the doors for everyone. There is no option (at least none I am aware of) for making sure only people you know and would like to have around enter your building. Apart from opening the access when they're outside, let them enter and closing access again or so, which requires your presence, of course. Which is fine for a party but a bit strange for some sort of hangout for friends.
Considering you don't have an option to kick out troublemakers and would have to wait for them to leave on their own, log off or join a duty, having no option whatsoever for limiting the access of your place to specific people this can become a real problem.

I thought there might be some technical restrictions or so that might prevent this or so. However, now we got Island Sanctuary and its guest access settings are really great. Of course, Island Sanctuary and houses/appartments/FC rooms are not at all the same, but both are personal areas you can open and close for others, so I suppose there are some similarities on the technical end of things.

So please, dear devs, add the option from Island Sanctuary to housing! Give us a possibility to choose between "party", "friends", "FC" and "everyone" or so as guest access settings as well!

And while we're at it, please add similar options to interactions with food housing items (and NPC vendors) like suggested in this thread:

Agree. It would be nice to have this feature limiting entry available for housing as well now that we know SE can do it for instances.

Ah, the days of UO and the simplicity of Remove thyself and I ban thee.... an over 20 year old system that works. No reason why we can't have it here too.

Having played other games with similar granular control, those two options would be so amazing to have.

Having a "ban" list and those listed people can't step foot inside the gate and a "kick" command and those people are booted out to whence they came.

I was actually kind of amazed that housing permissions were all or nothing. There's a lot of people around here that don't understand why housing permissions are a problem.

Absolutely. It would feel like it was really "your home". You can yell, "get off my lawn!" and actually be able to do something about it. :D

I know you used it as a figure of speech, but I wonder if keeping people off your lawn would be possible as well. Probably not because the garden is not an own "room". But then again, this is a thread with a suggestion, an idea, the "how" is someone else's concern. :D

It's not possible because the outdoor area isn't a separate instance, it's part of the ward.

I think it would be cool! Bloody spaghetti code tho.. Hope they fix that in 7.0. :)

From a systems POV this doesn't matter if the system has a decent architecture as a foundation. Although we know FF 's design is done by a hungover kindergartener after a nights binge drinking sake and XO cocktails, but despite this can we please dream, eh? Is that ok?

It is quite possible with a decent design, and there are games with pretty much the same as shared ward housing that prove it (albeit with a lot more flexibility than the puddle of toddler puke we need to deal with as "housing"). All that it would need is for SE to want to do it and expend the money and staff to backfit it. And if not, then the ideas can be maybe one day put into an instanced system.

Because - along with the braindead one sided defriending system we have been lumbered with (under the excuse that we shouldn't hurt people's feelings by defriending them FFS) - this game is the absolute pits for systems against harassment and really does need an overhaul on friends list and house/island access.

Thanks to Bozja we know that Square knows how to block off open areas on a per-character basis. Whether or not they can use that in the ward system depends if the wards share code with Bozja or are otherwise compatible or how hard it would be to backport Bozja's boundary code into the wards.

A functional kick was one of the few things Wildstar housing was missing. You could at least block people. The community did find a workaround which basically amounted to gut a rat, close your eyes, spin around three times, and yell "Begone!" in the four cardinal directions.

I wish. In UO, your plot is your plot. You can watch someone rubber-band off your property to your hearts content.

This game, your yard is wide open and not separate like the inside of your house is.

We can dream though.

Given that there's already a system in place to block you from stepping on the area of an empty plot where a house can be built (y'know, that giant orange square), it stands to reason that they could just expand that to the whole plot if you wanted.

I'd also like the ability to pick and choose who comes into my house -- there's nothing in there to hide, but I've heard stories of people walking into their house to see people ERPing in there, which I'd really rather not encounter.

Allow me to expand
Also allow people on that list to decorate or ATLEAST USE THE GOD DARNED SHOWER! I find the tenat system is too small and too restrictive.
Get rid of FC housing - allow private rooms in ALL houses and allow folks to add as many tenants as they like; viola you no longer need to see all these damn 1 man FCs everywhere. As it stands the only things FC housing does is givens "quarters" and a Workshop - both of which you could just put in all homes and allow people to make others tenants and include in that tenant system the option to grant a private quarters..

and yes - limit people to only having 1 private quarters obviously but allow them to be tenants to more then 1 home.

That's a hard collision wall that applies to every player. Expand that across the entire plot and even the owner wouldn't be able to get into their house.

Just rearranged stuff in my appartment and started to wonder, how the "housing" mode works on the technical side of things and if this could be utilized somehow. The one where you can place furniture and then get into some sort of "god mode" where all object collission is disabled, apart from the floor and walls - and ceiling indoors. Of course going that far and having all your guests walking or falling through furniture would be a bit much. xD But if the collission is adjustable in this way and can be limited to a specific number of people (FC members with customization rights, tenants, ofc. the owner), maybe this could be refined/expanded for this?

It would be good if you could lock out people who are blocked. This would be really helpful for venues and players who are being harassed because if a harasser comes to a venue, the security guards are just for show. They can't kick harassing players out. And a venue can't just make their house private because that would kick everyone out

You're probably right that those collision volumes are baked into the area. But adding ones that can be toggled on a per client basis is not something that should be a schedule busting effort. Of course that assumes they didn't take too many shortcuts with the design. Then there's the question if XIV's server actually validates a client's position. Unlikely since wall and speed hacks exist.

The other curiosity is that IS access permissions only take effect if the owner is present. If the owner isn't around then nobody can visit. That strongly suggests that they're still tying way too much information to character storage. If that's true that's incredibly disappointing.

The outside of the house does not exist solely on the owner's client. It is a shared zone on the game servers that any player is free to enter.

I sincerely doubt having the housing system juggle multiple entry rulesets in every ward would be as simple as it sounds. We're not taking Yanxia where it was a single static ruleset for the collision wall that existed at a single location and applied to all players equally. You either had completed Doma Castle, or you hadn't.

That's vastly different from trying to get the game to program "its okay for John to be on Jane and Bill's lawns but not on Sally or Mike's lawns while Sally can be on John and Bill's lawn but isn't allowed on Jane or Mike's lawns while Bill isn't allowed on anyone's lawn but Jane and Mike gets access to all" - subject to change when someone gets mad at one of the others or they've made up after fighting.

Instanced interiors? Yes, the whitelists should be available now that we see it is possible for private instances. If SE would add in a blacklist function, even better.

I just opened up a new RP restaurant and on the first night had a troll/heckler the likes of which I haven't encountered since my WoW days. Not being able to kick them out of, and prevent them from entering my private space again, was quite frustrating for both me and my guests. I'd LOVE to have more granular control from Everyone to Friends to Nobody for my places. At the very least, make it so people on your black list are barred from entry.

The only thing I've got now is knowing that person won't see my PF listing since they're blacklisted.

So... You are aware that blacklisting happens entirely on your side? You won't see their PF lisitngs but they will be completely fine to see yours.

I keep thinking about having a little party or something at the house but the idea of doing this without any option to "moderate" my own space like this still feels a bit uncomfortable. Please SE, add that feature!
