6.2 Dungeon, what are your thoughts?

New dungeon just dropped and I must say it surprised me. I expected much more of a faceroll but the group I was in was a bit of a strugglebus. The trash pulls werent even an issue although they reminded me in damage output more of leveling dungeons than level cap dungeons. The bosses however seemed to do a lot of damage to our group but I also didnt check the gear on my fellow party members.

What were your experiences?

Visually I'd say it's hands down the best dungeon in the game. You can definitely see so much inspiration taken from various things and it ended up being unique in it's own way and not necessarily outright replicating a particular architecture style. I absolutely loved it.
In the gameplay department it's all same old same old and bosses reminded me of bosses in that particular EW dungeon, just meh.

Boss mechanics are interesting and challenging, apart from that one boss which is not a boss but just adds and i hate that so much. I hated it already in Aumarot, what's the point of a boss that's just trash? Especially in a game where Aoe rotations are so boring.
Esthetics pretty cool, trash pretty standard.
Still much preferred the previous dungeon tbh, both in looks and mechanics.

One of the party wide aoe has DoT. I quite like that if I'm were to heal.
Should probably get more of those at this point.

so far did circle 5 of panamonium was interesting some storyling boss.s were a challenge tataru questline was interaining have not done circle 6-7- or 8 added new aethershard in
radz at han trying out my new island.

I had fun with the boss fights, dungeon looks nice, trash pulls are the same as always. Definitely was most surprised at the boss fights though, I thought they were pretty well designed.

Not a fan of the dungeon but I do like the trial quite a bit.

The dungeon was nice to look at, trash was trash (including the first 'boss'), the two actual bosses were pretty good/serviceable. Kinda wish the last one had more going on, it was pretty whelming. Neither over or under in the whelming department. The music was the best part for the last boss as well. That sax bit was great.

I think you mean since HW...and if you think about the ARR ones that weren't just linear...we the playerbase made the runs linear anyway...

Personally, I really enjoyed the new dungeon. The atmosphere we neat, the fights were cool as dungeons go, I love the whole FFIV theme going on, and the boss battle music absolutely rocks! It's the first remix of an old FF battle theme that I think I actually prefer to the original NES/SNES versions. The only part that could have made it better would've been heading to the castle at the first boss. I saw the path leading to it and thought it would have an awesome view along the way, but just ended up being a threshold transfer. Would've loved to make that walk!

The dungeon was... a dungeon. Unremarkable. Which is better than an annoying dungeon, I suppose.

Really staking my hopes on the criterion system at this point.

The new dungeon…Its too awesome. that dungeon was made for reapers lol the ff4 boss battle 2 ost was banging!

Bosses where all they do is literally spawn trash mobs should not be a thing this many years in.

It's visually beautiful, I liked that it had some stairs without loading screens to really give it more of a dark castle with several levels feel instead of a flat corridor. I also like the aesthetic of the dungeon sets, going to farm a few of them.
Trash was very standard: hit stuff, dodge orange. That's it.
The trash boss was plain boring, the 2nd was okay, liked the last boss best. Not challenging by any means but overall nice last boss and the music was great, reminiscent of the older FF titles. Had some hiccups on my first run from everyone but since then it's pretty much smooth faceroll-sailing.

I really enjoyed it and can see this being one that I repeat-play.

And would have to agree that the music is great too!

Visually I loved it - I loved picking up all the FFIII, IV and IX references and kind of took my time heading through it (the dungeon's name itself, the music (Troian Beauty), the castle design, Beatrice's portrait, and of course.... Mr Poison Lich as the last boss - once I heard Battle II start playing, I roared with excitement, and he didn't disappoint - in fact he kicked my butt, as I went in expecting him to be just as much the pushover as he was in FFIV. He wasn't.) :P

But yeah mechanically it wasn't really that hard, but I think at this stage, main scenario dungeons are not meant to be hard at all - their mechanics need to be simple enough for the Trust System/Duty Support to work, and for those lamenting dungeons being corridors, well, we had alternate paths in dungeons years ago - players ignored them and always just went for the quickest route anyway, so all SE has done is accepted that as what players want. So they're simply not going to bring back the days of say old-school Toto-Rak in dungeon design, that's just being realistic.

Visually:
Appealing. Music was good. Looked very cool and beautiful. Nice to see more voidsent mobs. Liked traversing a castle.

Mechanically:
Hate the first boss. While i love Art of Waring.. doing it for 98% of a "boss" fight is... I already do it for 50% of the dungeon. Why add another 16.66% to it.

2nd boss got me a bit with the double eye circle with aoe circle. Other than that. Just dodge.

3rd boss: Reminded me of Xelphatol 2nd boss. Other than that. Not to bad of a fight. Liked how our AOEs can make it harder. Add phase felt unnecessary. But didnt mind too much.

Severely disagree, a annoying dungeon is a fun topic. A boring dungeon is so unimpressionable it’s basically ignored, question the point of its inclusion with questions like “If dungeons are this brain dead, why not just turn them into solo instances?l” or “Gee that tank buster hardly did any damage” or “why the hell is SE all of a sudden scared of death zones? With this dungeon and P8 not insta-killing you”

I enjoyed the dungeon for what it was. It certainly felt more about story experience than anything though, given how long some of the no-mobs areas were, even in a simple two pack pull. However, given it was meant to be reused for storytelling experience, and how well it was done, I'm quite satisfied with that overall.

That said, as someone with a lot of conditional AoEs, the size of the mobs combined with model collision is a bit annoying. My main AoE rotation as a RDM is target based, my melee part of AoE burst is conal, the follow-up is target based, and my finisher is a straight line. If my tank doesn't bother to cluster the mobs (looking at you, first "boss" ), or they decide to splay out in a weird, non circular cluster, I'm missing stuff. Some of that is player error because you can almost always reposition, but if the mobs weren't so large, it wouldn't be as annoying of a problem.

Beyond that though, enjoyable experience. The cluster issues doesn't sour it too much, but I hope it's not a prevailing theme for the rest of the expansion. My main is already low enough on the DPS totem pole to begin with (not even mentioning the tank buffs), I don't need design situations making my contribution to the team even harder to provide.

While I enjoyed most of the dungeon, I dislike the moving gaze attacks on the second boss - not the collapsing circle ones, the ones that twist around and won't show you where to look away from until they're about to go off. Much like Tentacle Dig in the first boss of Alzadaal's Legacy, this style of mechanic denies planning-oriented players the option to handle the mechanic by planning instead of reaction.

Many players enjoy doing story content mechanics by reaction, and that's fine. But some players simply do not have the reaction time for this - whether due to age, disability, or lacking years of experience with action games - and that makes such mechanics continual pain points that the player cannot improve upon, instead feeling punished for something out of their control. (As a disabled player myself who often prefers Savage to Normal, I very much feel this personally. And FFXIV disproportionately draws older, disabled, and "non-gamer" players!) Even players who do have the reaction time may find more enjoyment in planning on repeat runs, particularly if they are used to high-end content, and this style of mechanic denies them that enjoyment.

It is frustrating to see more and more of this in the game, when many previous fights have shown that casual content mechanics can be fun for everyone by having both reactive and planning options.

I'm not sure what you're referring to here in the Beatrice fight. There are the collapsing-ring "look away" attacks where the location is clear and the challenge is from the other AOEs going off at the same time, and there are the "gaze beams on floor" explosions that simply go off in the same order they were laid down. There's no attack where the location is unpredictable like for the squid boss.

It's still new to me so I won't rank it with the other dungeons, but, I am really enjoying it's looks and music, so I like it.

First boss is the most boring boss since....Bardam's Mettle but even that was somewhat humorous.
Second boss ehhh....
Third boss ehhh alright pretty cool I guess.

Not all that interesting boss-wise for me. Granted I have not played other FF games so maybe I'm missing the sentimental value or something of the last boss.

The first "boss" feels like either they ran out of time or the idea seemed more interesting on paper. There are far too many waves of enemies that just do nothing but exist. Maybe there were supposed to be more explosions and dodging, or something.

Honestly, I thought it was a good introduction to The Void that they are writing for now. The ease of the first boss reflected that we were in a lesser Voidsent's palace, rather than a big cheese. As boring as a boss like that is, it reflected gameplay story integration.

The dungeon was beautiful, as was its music, and I'm a sucker for the FFIV references.

I also liked that it was reused afterwards, but it did make me wish they'd get brave with how dungeons are laid out. We need some looping paths and labyrinthine spirals. Maybe we'll get that in the new dungeon thing they're making that I can't remember the name of, currently.

Loved it visually and thematically. Troian Beauty was one of my favourite old FF tracks so nice to hear it again. Soken did a really good job. But the first boss was immensely disappointing.

It is ok. Nothing special.
But, i think, that it is a little unfriendly for Black mage.

The adds from first Boss are dying So fast, that you are doing practicly nothing.

The normal adds to the other hand create very often aoe and force you to move (at last, after the second boss).
But in overhaul is it ok

Second boss made me go "Uh? Oh okay" which is more than I can say about every normal dungeon boss since The Grand Cosmos. In the end it's basically a much easier version of the Terminus Bellwether fight.
The dungeon like every dungeon since the Grand Cosmos is super pretty but is still the same old hallway with chests literally in the middle of the way as you pull trivial trash 2 times between bosses. They add salt to the wound with the huge amount of detail and space you're blocked off from walking into either because the game warps you to the next room too soon or because of invisible walls forcing you into the most boring path.

It was good.

I've made peace with dungeons being corridors - they are really story vehicles that after the 1st time your just going back there to get free stuff and help first times get through it. As someone did point out - because of roulettes your going to find people taking the best route anyways - and the fights need to be simple enough given how often your going to repeat them.

I do how the new dungeon idea makes "hard" dungeon gameplay a thing...but I worry it will be like challenge mode dungeons in WoW.

may I ask, why is there no thread for raids?

The collapsing-ring attacks are fine - I mean the ones that twist around before going off. In more recent runs I've been skipping mechanics so I think I've managed to avoid them that way; my first run was with Duty Support for the commentary, so the party DPS was not ideal.
