6.2 Hrothgar Update

I am once again begging the devs to acually TRY in 6.2 with regards to hrothgar. I would really like to use hairstyles that have my ears attached. I would just be tickled pink to use my Rainmaker hair or Windcaller. Windcaller is only obtainable from bozja, the hrothgar homeland, and YOU KNOW hrothgar en masse want that hair option. If you google hrothgar hair or windcaller you will likely see modded hrothgar wearing it on the front page.

Please also do the very, very bare minimum and let us use all hrothgar race-specific hair options. It took 3 years to get one other hair related to specific faces, are you kidding me? Three years for one faces hair. That should have been fixed by 5.1 at LEAST not an entire expansion later. I am asking the devs to actually show they care for once because leaving hrothgar abandoned for 3 years and then giving us 1 unfantasiaed hair option is utter bull. 3 years to get nonrace-specific hairs at the cost of ears? I hope the next glamour rips off Au Ra scales if racial traits can be removed.

Its been 3 years and I'm sick to death of waiting. Hrothgar are not asking for Yoship to sacrifice his firstborn, they are not holding SE employees hostage at gunpoint so I don't know why you are treating these players so, so tremendously badly.

The fact that you couldn't even update """""new""""" hair options to retain our ears all 6.1 is revolting. You can fix a dragoon bug in a single fight or update a pair of glasses to be toggleable on mviera but can't keep preexisting EARS on a races head? Come on already.

Please, please do not make hrothgar wait until 7.0 to get anything worth our subscription fees. It cannot this hard, we all know it isn't.

It's a serious issue when modders are doing far better work than experienced devs.

I have incredibly limited modelling/animation experience and even I know how to put a hat on a model and rig it up in under an hour.

Their lack of care will never not be insulting.

Like ok? Super? What ARE these restrictions and WHY do they very obviously only apply to hrothgar getting hair or hrothgar and viera getting headgear (love the 5 hats hrothgar can wear that clip so atrociously into every non-Zlatan hair style its like "why bother").

Modders don't have restricions BUT they do not have the 14 teams resources either, much less manpower or training. The extremely popular hrothgar/viera hat mod is by 1 (ONE!!!) person who is still in freaking college, AND they aren't being paid to update said mod either, they just do.

If this is going to continue to be such a stabbing thorn in the devs sides, then the first mod they need to look at adding like they talked about in april is the hrothgar/viera hat and hair mods. Then they can never think about it again because literally everything in the game has been made to work for these races already by people who are untrained, unpaid, and do not even "main" hrothgar or viera, they just care about those players not getting needlessly screwed over every single patch.

sadly only when people stop play then (at last 90% of the cornet players that do) the devs see a problem at all. like think of it from the point of the devs, they don't need to do the work and people use the product . why will they do the work?

To be fair, that's most jobs. Just do well enough to not get fired and you are set! Why shoot for the stars and take risks when people just want instant gratification to the point your livelihood depends on it? lol

The devs do the bare minimum they have to so that they keep production cost down and maximize profit, modders actually care about what they're doing.

Wouldn't the answer to that just be quitting then? Or at the very least drastically reducing the amount of time you play FFXIV? If you only care about the story content, you can enjoy an entire expansion's worth of content in 3 months and waiting for the last patch to do so. Buying 3 months of subscription at once is cheaper and waiting for the last patch means you'll like be able to buy the expansion on a 50% (or more) discount. You can safely enjoy the majority of an expansion while drastically reducing the money given to Square Enix (Yoshi-P already encourages people to take breaks and play other games anyway)

I don't and at some point I'll probably just give up and pay/play less myself. The other content I enjoy comes out far enough apart that I can easily be subscribed for half a patch cycle instead of it's entirety. Not to mention that some content, say Hildibrand or the trial quest chains, feel nicer to play in one chunk rather than split out over patches (IMHO anyway because that's how I played all the old content after starting last April.)

I just really want a posture toggle in the Aesthtician. It cant be impossible. They have the upright animations. I've seen it in cutscenes. I've seen the emotes. I don't care if they want to make Hrothgar stay bestial.

I did specify "If you only care about the story content". Even then, many gameplay loops don't require the players to stay constantly subscribed and Yoshi-P has even encouraged the player base to take breaks or try other games. Besides, if a race added at the start of ShB still has terrible/broken customisations, are they ever going to fix it?

I don't see both races can't use all head gear. Clipping didn't stop them with the Au Ra's horns clipping on most the head gear and looking bad. Maybe if 95% of player base quit they would fix the problem because that be a lot of funds lost.

Developing content for 6.2, 6.3 and even 7.0. there is most likely strict budgeting and time secluding and we also know ff14 devs and billed out to ff16 and ff11. they were pretty clear they didn't want to add a new race after Au Ra but the community kept pushing and as a result, they get lacklustre attention at the end of the day modders do one thing in their free time but SE employees still have to make new content.

Ok? Amazing. Great. I'm so stoked the NEW CONTENT they add every patch includes like superduper necessary things like...aquarium fish and a parasol emote. While theres a race in their game that still has to change its entire face if it wants to use its racial hair.

This is such a lameass excuse honest to god like WE SEE them add new stuff every patch that just plain doesnt work, at all, if you dare to play a race from shb. There is 0 reason to not make every single new hat or hair work for hrothgar and viera but we have "oh its hard oooh they have to add a 2 minute solo instance to msq ooh its so difficult please understand" while two PLAYER RACES get the shitcovered end of the stick. Modding and implementing something officially server side aren't the same thing at all, it's kinda silly to compare the two.
The mods have a ton of issues too but even so.
It's completely ridiculous to look at what modders do and then hold it up against the actual devs and say that the modders are '' more competent '' or whatever, it just displays a fundamental lack of understanding of how game development works especially in MMO's and other online games.

Per usual people are SEVERELY oversimplifying things, just like they did with the housing situation last time when people were screaming at the devs and not even understanding what the problem even was.
Even after Yoshi-P came out and explained it in a fair amount of detail people didn't understand it.
There's a lot of complexities that modders don't have to deal with that the actual devs do, there's even less of an argument for comparing the two in online games than in a game like Skyrim for example.

I think that the amount of people who would actually be willing to sacrifice on other content for the sake of Hrothgar helmets or whatever is very low tbh.
This is a far more immense task than you're making it out to be, A LOT of work would go into it and they already struggled to even create Hrothgar to begin with and felt it was necessary to make these sacrifices to even make them a reasonable possibility to begin with.
It's easy to sit in your armchair and judge, but if you know anything about the history of this game and the work culture in Japan it's pretty crazy to act like they're just lazy or whatever.
They work incredibly hard, and if you think that they wouldn't love to give Hrothgar players what they want then I think you're very mistaken.
The reason why it isn't/ hasn't happened yet isn't because they're uncaring, why would they not want to make the players happy?

Some of you seriously talk about this as if the devs are not adding what you want out of spite or something too.
If they actually took on the task in this regard and other content suffered for it too then people would flock to the forum to complain about not getting enough content because their efforts were focused elsewhere too.
It's a no win situation, but the current situation upsets way less people.

"Why wouldn't they want to make players happy" well apart from the very obvious fact that they deliberately designed every hrothgar HEAD needlessly different just to screw over those players into paying for fantasia if they ever deigned to alter their characters design, an issue which 3 years later has STILL not been fixed, I think making players happy is very much NOT a concern the devs have.
"Sacrificing content" like ok so the people who design all the new gear and all the new hair options are also responsible for battle mechanics? What? If thats the case they need to hire more but I seriously doubt the team is that minimal. This isn't an indie game (...heh) being made by two schmucks in their parents basement for christ sake. This is the most successful mmo currently on the market, an mmo which charges you monthly for continued play.
Like please GOD explain to me why Yoship said that for Endwalker on, they would "spare no expense" because I very clearly see expenses being spared! Why is brand new shit not made with hrothgar and viera in mind? And do not tell me the Edward hat that clips so badly on every hrothgar hairstyle its practically invisible is them trying. Its not. Every one else can wear and use things designed to fit the head and NOT clip into nonexistence except hrothgar. Even what few hats viera get don't rip right thru their ears or vanish beneath the "Lyna" hairstyle.
There is no excuse, certainly not when the freaking director says "spare no expense".

"They didn't want to add another race" According to Yoship hrothgar was a race he wanted to add since Heavensward but ok.
And limitations shouldn't be an issue if the director of the game proudly declares they will "spare no expense" going forward with endwalker.
And I don't know why everyone who doesn't play hrothgar feels so compelled to shit on people who take issue with these things.
But ok enjoy your "human but my eyes are purple because the devs are so so creative"-tier race I guess.

He also said that H/V would get racial specific hairtsyles and updates to them as the patches went on which....that OBVIOUSLY didn't happen. Promises were made in the beginning that were recanted afterwards without at least coming forward and telling the players of said races that they would no longer be receiving these updates. I know this problem was fixed, but no where did yoshi say that Hrothgar would have to pay to change their hair because their hair was tied to their face. Please be quiet. :^)
Yoshi was the one who wanted a beast type race. The only other race that the *PLAYERS* wanted was Viera which Yoshi originally did NOT want to add.

The difference between V/H were that a *BEAST TYPE PLAYABLE RACE* was what Yoshi himself wanted. Viera was not something he wanted, but was coaxed into it

You're forgetting FF 7 Rebirth. :p But yeah, in my opinion, when SE has a major project or two in the pipeline, FF XIV conveniently suffers a lot in regards to quality and quantity of its content. Which is to say that it happens more often than it probably should. This game doesn't get near as much put back into it as it deserves.

Well see the player character getting shafted every single patch for 3 years so people can get the new scrimmbly skrongo minion or use a 2frame emote with the polka dot parasol or have yshtola be a cringe uguu kawaii moedesune~~~~ magical meguca in one cutscene it kinda sticks in the back of your throat like bile. There is no excuse to continually ignore a player race unless you're just going to delete the race (and thereby lose subscribers) because it doesn't have miqote with white hair wearing 2B Panties player numbers. There just isn't besides being too lazy to care.
"We might lose battle content" what content? The hot new lv90 dungeon you'll get a third of the time in expert roulette? or the totally necessary, can't just be a cutscene solo msq instance that takes 2ish minutes and rewards you with nothing? That content?
Viera now have 4x the number of options as hrothgar and thats just lame and unfair. They need to actually do right by hrothgar players for once.
But hell...if they don't wanna fix ears, that's fine. Just let hrothgar use every single headpiece in the game if ears are expendable. Thats a fine compromise, I'd KILL to wear my neoishgardian or mogstation hats.

Just the fact that it was literally never stated ANYWHERE that not only would the aesthetician not work but you would be forced to spend extra money to alter your hair at all should be enough to get people to not religiously simp for Yoshi "Never blatantly lies to players" P but here we are. The Hrothgar are not being ignored and they are not going to be removed or deleted...thats just silly.
Dev time on them is just hilariously slow. Sadly, I dont think 90%-95% of the headgear will be functional on the Hrothgar, its a sad reality. It would be nice if they could get more headgear working already, and make Store Glamour Headgear wearable. And I hope they do plan future gear to include the Hrothgar.
Something else they could/Should do is make some Lv1 Glamour gear for the Hrothgar.

Some unique Unique racial gear to make up for the lack of Headgear would be neat.

I will forever stand by this notion: I dont care what limitations V/H have, Mogstation items should *ALWAYS* work on them. Either have a set for them to buy at a lower price that doesn't include the non-working pieces [Not sure how the system would pull this off....) or make them work. Like just a couple weeks back they had ms maintenance and all that was added? More disclaimers that gear won't work on mviera.
I'm sorry but thats crap. You don't offer H/V players alternate sets without hats so...say a new ms glam has 4 pieces, and 1 is a hat. That means a hrothgar or viera who buys said set is getting charged 25% more. "What if they fantasia?" What if the devs didn't add new glams that cost additional money that screwed over h/v players? How bout that hypothetical. Its completely undefendable. If something costs players additional money to have, like glams, like the matoya hat that comes with merch, like the gaelicat cap you only get if you win a twitter contest, then it should damn oughta work regardless. I do not care if a viera player wants to buy a newly degendered set or a hrothgar wants to buy a set made in arr, if you can only obtain shit by opening your wallet, shouldn't you be able to use it? This is also why genderlocked sets are crap, you know damn well more people will spend money if they can use things, they are actively LOSING money by not improving on these situations.
I was so so disappointed when the new korean glam didn't work on h/v. It was made specifically for the launch of Endwalker, a new expansion with new player racial options, and the new races including mviera cannot enjoy the full set what kind of crap is that?

So can you explain why out of all the hairstyles they could've added to Hrothgar after 2/3 years they added 2 joke ones and 2 completely uncharacteristic ones?


Can you also then explain further why despite having NPC's that use different face/hair combos existing in the game(gangos), players still don't have access these options?


I'm curious how you people will rationalize that. Because if Hrothgar got access to all of their racial hair + 4 new Hrothgar-centric hairstyles. Virtually no one would be complaining at the moment.


Its literally just neglect and delusion on the part of the devs. There really isn't any other excuse, the devs are allowed to be out of touch and wrong.

--I refuse to follow that idea personally. Neglect and Delusion to me would mean they think Hrothgar are fine with Zero Plans of Fixes, additions or even developing the Females. We can argue circles about the lack of options and how bad the hair is.....which will ultimately amount to us all Agreeing on some level that its not ok and needs fixes.

Please stop excusing the development team at every turn about "how hard" content is and about "how much" we get.

These patches are planned out FAR in advance, by people led by a man who would allegedly time their bathroom breaks back in the development of ARR. Rarely ever have they needed to change their course, and often it was for a good reason.

Meaning everything you guys are pointing out has already been planned for quite a while now. If Hrothgar updates have not been part of that list, it's because the team didn't think they would be relevant. And that has already proven to be a problem, with several players feeling disgruntled at a 3-year wait leading up to meme-worthy and sad updates.

If this were your race, you wouldn't like it either.

Here you go if you want more information on the matter.

So if they can give us detailed stuff and entire systems with "strict budgeting", then fixing stuff such as hairstyles should have been calculated as a part of their to-do list with that budget.
If they did care, they would have had included it in their to-do list, seen the budget, and allocated resources\organized priorities accordingly.
And that alone would mean we wouldn't have had minor systems and content being pushed out before Hrothgars had a proper update.
Because, as it stands, it's obvious it wasn't taken into consideration, and that a rushed job was the preferable way to go about it.

This isn't even getting into the "Modders do better" argument. That's another can of worms. This is just sheer "what can the devs do". And what they can do is plan things ahead, which they do. And allocate things based on what players actually have been asking for three years, which they did not.

In a roundabout way, you kinda do on this subject. You sometimes start off appearing to defend them, only to do a complete 180 by the end. Intentional or not, it is how I perceive some of your posts in regard to this, so I can see how others might get that impression too. I've got nothing against you though either way. Just calling it as I see it.

That's the thing. On quite a lot of posts, you do look like you come out in support for Hrothgars, but then end up saying stuff that don't match reality, often even excusing the development team's methods and derailing their already-sketchy plans for what you personally think is right. Rather than be objective about what should and shouldn't be implemented. You're not the only one, though. It's a thing I see many people do, and it's often because they just overall don't understand what sort of game they're playing. In a "unaware of how the game has been designed and what sort of paradigm we're working with" way. As well as just not knowing how software design works in general. I'm no expert, but a lot of my friends work in the area, not just in programming and software design, but in game development as well, and they've helped me understand the situation in broad terms.

On this topic alone, it just feels like you missed the point, that's really all I can gather from it.

Don't get me wrong. Overall, it's clear what you want. You said so yourself once too. Female Hrothgar to come with Hrothgar Fixes. Among other things, no doubt. But what you want isn't going to match what will happen. Not because what you want is ridiculous; we wish it were like that as well, but that's a perfect-world scenario. We know how the development team is. And we've seen the past three years and how they've dealt with the situation. And what many people understood, both from their work and their responses, is that they view all this as a minor thing that they can just wing and be done with.

Frankly? I do apologize for having called you deluded. It is clear you are passionate about something. It's just misplaced, imo. Misplaced and possibly a bit rash.

For now, Square screwed up with what we got. If we want something done right in the future, then they can't half-ass it the way they've been so far.
