In what way? You gotta be more specific than that lol.
Mostly because we're constantly trying to play the "keep away" game from ranged DPS who just run away spamming their moves. Hence why you se mostly BRD/MCH/BLM/SMN. You'll see some DRG/MNK/SAM sprinkled in now and then. Meanwhile I play my favortie job RPR and i'm about worthless cause half my kit is locked behind Immortal Sacrifice stacks and my LB gives Hysteria... so when I use it, I shoot myself in the foot cause they run away from me and I have to catch up to them.
Learn how to not die when you jump in and you'll be fine as melee. Aim for 0 death matches.
SAM, NIN and MNK are actually OK since they have CC abilities. I will admit SAM does become less menacing when you play against top tier players who avoid its gimmicky limit break. I would agree RPR and DRG lag behind noticeably, even if its for different reasons. What would be nice is if they gave melee back Fetter Ward, so melee could go back to playing proactively again as opposed to playing reactively and being heavily subject to server ticks and the janky reliance on purify for status resistance. You literally have to wait to be hit with a CC ability to "attempt" to gain resistance to it and the server ticks make it unreliable at that. Couple that with the inexplicably high number of CC abilities available, masquarading as "different abilities" yet for all intents and purposes all achieving the same result (blocking inputs from target player), and sure it can be frustrating at times to play melee. Even so, I think the current dynamic between melee and ranged works if you reinstill something like fetter ward for melees, so that they are less prone and subject to being rooted in place or otherwise prevented from taking action(s) for extended periods when facing a group of competent tanks, ranged dps and WHMs.
Your LB cancels Guard, cannot be purified, forces movement away from the cast location (such as, say, the crystal during overtime) and has a very short charge time.

This thread as a whole is basically "Bronze melee players giving their opinions on the world," lol. Melee is perfectly fine. Any problems you're experiencing are PEBKAC errors, not real errors.
The Cancel Guard is about the only useful part. Who cares if it's a 5 second Hysteria, like it matters when they just turn around and shoot back or use movement rushes. The Hysteria is useless, because by the time you've caught up to them running, it's gone and they can just fire back. The Hysteria only helps when they are being target by your teammates, and they can't fight back, so good luck unless your a premade in voice chat for call out. Though i'm sure it's "good" that's why there is a whole mess of Reaper players in PvP. Oh wait... there isn't. It the most rare job to see. Gee, I wonder why?
Reaper and Monk need a bit of help in CC but Ninja,DRG and SAM are super good

Reaper feels like you're endlessly chasing, but that's because it's designed differently to all the other melee that have multiple targeted gapcloser charges and are completely fine. Reaper is secretly a tank; it's movement skill is designed to be an escape after you've spent your defensives, even if you used it to initiate.
Reaper LB is one of those "great for the team because fear pushes them out of the crystal and helps kill players the team is focusing, but trash for the reaper who can't utilize their combo because the LB puts fear onto all the players so now you have to chase them."
Its both good and terrible at the same time.

It's barely useful. Doesn't do outright damage like ALL other melee DPS, only slightly buffs your damage of your normal moves, and you're just as vulnerable as always (Have fun trying not to get nuked down before you can make use of it). Communio also has a potency of 16,000, which is the LEAST of ALL other melee DPS, and once you toss it, you're back to square one normal. Then the Hysteria just making it harder to even land your hits cause your chasing them. Which even better if they are ranged DPS and you just gave them free distance if they were close enough in the first place.
You have no idea how to play RPR, nor do you understand its role. It's a melee, but it's closer to being a tank. It is *by far* the most durable melee, has both an AOE heavy and AOE bind (if you're so worried about people walking away during Hysteria, maybe you could use one of those skills before or after popping LB so they can't move), and 8k per GCD is *significantly* higher than standard DPS rotations (which are 3000, 4000, 5000.) You do 24k in 3 GCDs, while everyone else did 12k.
You need to spend more time learning how to actually play RPR correctly, and less time whining about it, because RPR is a very strong class right now. Or, alternatively, switch to a different class. If you want mindless Leeroy action... that's what MNK provides. Though if you switch to MNK, should we expect to see a post in 2 weeks' time complaining about how you can't kill casters and MNK is too fragile because you dive the enemy team and immediately get sheeped by the WHM and die?
If you are actually willing to admit you don't know jack, there are actually a number of people here that could actually provide you with useful information and help you learn how to improve. But right now all you're doing is whining. Are you willing to admit the problem exists between keyboard and chair?
Considering we've seen teams where all DPS are melees played in competitive tourneys, I think they're largely fine. Now, they might not be your style... and that's also fine. Try different jobs.
Reaper LB is a guard break. How is that not useful? And if you are getting focused and killed before you can get any attacks off on your LB, you used your LB wrong. That's user error, not the fault of the LB. And it does the least because it's a buff and the fastest LB in the game. It's not supposed t be a press it and forget it, you have to use it well. If you want to turn your brain off, play a different job. And again, are you really complaining that you have to use your movement keys at the same time as you attack? Give me a break.
I can assure you monk isn't in as good of a place as you people say it is. They have the worst defensive capability out of all the melee jobs cause they can get CC'd before you can reactivate it, your damage is below average to the point where anything outside of the LB window is laughable and any focus on them makes them die easily.
I've more than once popped Reaper LB to disrupt or cancel guard only to immediately blink out after drawing the attention of the entire enemy team. You can still Communio from range - which is a lot more damage than dying trying to get full melee attack value!
Yup. Pop it and hope you can toss Communio before you get nuked into oblivion. That's if someone wasn't out of the Hysteria range and doesn't CC spam and stun you, then you get nuked by EVERYONE. I wouldn't bother listening to Grinning Serpent or Bubbly Boar. Neither one of them even have Reaper unlocked. They do however have every current meta S Tier and A Tier PvP job unlocked and leveled. Including broken Black Mage that Yoshi P publicly apologized for overbuffing and overtuning. Though they are going to tell us "get good" and "you're just bad." Yeah sure... sounds like a couple meta humpers defending their precious meta jobs to win. God forbid there be another job that can actually stand up to them.
NIN/DRG/WAR have been meta picks for ages, and MNK/PLD are brutal in the hands of players that know what they’re doing. SAM is still one of the strongest low rank/casual pubstompers
Melee are fine, lol. There are jobs that need tuning up, but saying melee jobs aren’t meta or weak in CC just makes 0 sense. Especially if this is low level play below crystal tier at minimum, where you can make basically any job work well by just pressing buttons and a moderate dose of getting good
I play monk and I am pretty happy with CC, actually. There is more a case of a few things I would want toned down or changed with other jobs than my job being buffed.

Sprint can be used or we can use Hell's Ingress for that. CC Immunity would be good though. We don't get to "blow everything we got" like all the other melee DPS LB's and are WAY too vulnerable after using our LB, but only for 5 seconds. Making it so we're immune to CC the whole time we're Enshrouded would be too strong. I don't know if it's possible but maybe make Hell's Ingress targetable dash attack with a low potency like 5k or something to quickly catch up to someone who's got Hysteria so we can actually use Void Reaping. We have to decide if we want to Communio or Void Reap. If you are going to Hell's Ingress and Void Reap, better make sure you're not going to in the middle of the entire enemy team. Better to Communio and stay out. Though if you're trying to nuke someone else, better to Hell's Ingress and Void Reap.
Secondly, they need to give us more ways to get Immortal Sacrifice / Soul Sacrifice stacks. Getting just TWO by using Soul Slice which is full OGC is painful enough. Getting more before you get nuked is just plain wasting your time. You have to get lucky and kill someone or get an assist to get anything more than two. We need more ways to to get our potency of Plentiful Harvest increased via stacks. Maybe one stack for a full Infernal Slice 1-2-3.
RPR is one of the strongest classes right now. They're very tanky, reliable, and Hysteria is incredibly powerful.
If you haven't learned how to play the class properly in 500 games, maybe you should accept it's not a class you're good at? Or maybe seek out some help?

There's a reason you almost never see RPR in higher crystal ranks. They are not that great, but then again you do love to overvalue bad kits and under value the good kits so its about what I'd expect from someone like you who sucks at pvp. Are you still casting fire on BLM and using oregeny thinking it heals you during bloodwhetting? Lawl.
What? RPR is very common in high skill games. It's probably the most common melee next to MNK. The higher the skill level of the game, the more likely you are to see classes with high skill floors like RPR.
Guess what? Fire is also common in high skill games. Dots are powerful.

Disagree. The only problem is people still think in terms of rigid roles when they're much more fluid now. RPR has a lot more in common with a tank than it does with a DPS, just like GNB is more of a DPS than a tank. Crest and their portals make them extremely durable, and their LB and combination of AOE heavy/bind give them a ton of CC... something usually associated with tanks, not DPS. If you view RPR as a tank, it makes a lot more sense.
I see a RPR maybe once a night. MNK has only sprung up because they can one shot combo BLM's. Any BLM using fire is straight up an idiot outside of extremely niche scenarios where there's only like 1 or 2 enemies and you don't need the CC. In big fight using fire over ice is beyond stupid. Literally one of the top rated BLM's in aether doesn't even have fire on their bar. There's little point to it. The dot is weak and equates to a single recup while the ice does the exact same damage and also stuns allowing for a lighting combo kill which nearly guarantees a kill unlike fire.

Reaper LB is really good though I would only say they should get maybe a cc immunity for a few seconds or a mit during the activation animation

Hysteria is busted when you know when to use it but you shouldn't think of it as this increase my dmg thats what enshroud is for
instead think of it as a get off my point tool or a disruption sort of style most of the time
I don't try to kill everyone I just focus one so LB and choose your target
Also if your ever on a map that has environment dmg its op OP timing is everything with it and it come back fast
Am I the only person that uses plentiful harvest as a LB generator instead of dmg
